Patterning of diamond-like carbon (DLC) and DLC:metal nanocomposites is of interest for an increasing number of applications. We demonstrate a nanoimprint lithography process based on silicon containing thermoplastic resist combined with plasma etching for straightforward patterning of such films. A variety of different structures with few hundred nanometer feature size and moderate aspect ratios were successfully realized. The quality of produced patterns was directly investigated by the means of optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Such structures were further assessed by employing them in the development of gratings for guided mode resonance (GMR) effect. Optical characterization of such leaky waveguide was compared with numerical simulations based on rigorous coupled wave analysis method with good agreement. The use of such structures as refractive index variation sensors is demonstrated with sensitivity up to 319 nm/RIU, achieving an improvement close to 450% in sensitivity compared to previously reported similar sensors. This pronounced GMR signal fully validates the employed DLC material, the technology to pattern it and the possibility to develop DLC based gratings as corrosion and wear resistant refractometry sensors that are able to operate under harsh conditions providing great value and versatility., Comment: 24 pages, 9 figures

Variation after particle-number restoration is incorporated for the first time into the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov framework employing the Skyrme energy density functional with zero-range pairing. The resulting projected HFB equations can be expressed in terms of the local gauge-angle-dependent densities. Results of projected calculations are compared with those obtained within the Lipkin-Nogami method in the standard version and with the Lipkin-Nogami method followed by exact particle-number projection., Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures

The nuclear charge radius of Li-11 has been determined for the first time by high precision laser spectroscopy. On-line measurements at TRIUMF-ISAC yielded a Li-7 - Li-11 isotope shift (IS) of 25101.23(13) MHz for the Doppler-free 2s - 3s transition. IS precision for all other bound Li isotopes was also improved. Differences from calculated mass-based IS yield values for change in charge radius along the isotope chain. The charge radius decreases monotonically from Li-6 to Li-9, and then increases from 2.217(35) fm to 2.467(37) fm for Li-11. This is compared to various models, and it is found that a combination of halo neutron correlation and intrinsic core excitation best reproduces the experimental results., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures

The beta-decay half-life of 62Ga has been studied with high precision using on-line mass separated samples. The decay of 62Ga which is dominated by a 0+ to 0+ transition to the ground state of 62Zn yields a half-life of T_{1/2} = 116.19(4) ms. This result is more precise than any previous measurement by about a factor of four or more. The present value is in agreement with older literature values, but slightly disagrees with a recent measurement. Supersymmetric (SUSY) Ward identities are considered for the N=1 SU(2) SUSY Yang Mills theory discretized on the lattice with Wilson fermions (gluinos). They are used in order to compute non-perturbatively a subtracted gluino mass and the mixing coefficient of the SUSY current. The computations were performed at gauge coupling $\beta$=2.3 and hopping parameter $\kappa$=0.1925, 0.194, 0.1955 using the two-step multi-bosonic dynamical-fermion algorithm. Our results are consistent with a scenario where the Ward identities are satisfied up to O(a) effects. The vanishing of the gluino mass occurs at a value of the hopping parameter which is not fully consistent with the estimate based on the chiral phase transition. This suggests that, although SUSY restoration appears to occur close to the continuum limit of the lattice theory, the results are still affected by significant systematic effects., Comment: 34 pages, 7 figures. The SUSY Ward identities (WIs) for the N=1 SU(2) SUSY Yang Mills theory discretized on the lattice with Wilson fermions (gluinos) are considered. The study is performed in the framework of a Monte Carlo simulation of the model with light dynamical gluinos. The renormalization and mixing constants of the lattice SUSY current $Z_S$ and $Z_T$ and the additively renormalized gluino mass $m_S$ are unknown parameters of the SUSY WIs. Using suitable on-shell combinations of the WIs, the ratios $Z_T/Z_S$ and $m_S/Z_S$ are determined non-perturbatively at one value of the coupling constant $g_0$ and two values of the hopping parameter $\kappa$., Comment: Lattice 2000 (Supersymmetry), 4 pages, 2 figures

In a numerical Monte Carlo simulation of SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with dynamical gauginos we find evidence for two degenerate ground states at the supersymmetry point corresponding to zero gaugino mass. We report on our experience with the two-step multi-bosonic algorithm in a large scale Monte Carlo simulation of the SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with dynamical gluinos. A detailed comparison is made between the field-theoretic and geometric definitions of topological charge density on the lattice. Their renormalizations with respect to continuum are analysed. The definition of the topological susceptibility, as used in chiral Ward identities, is reviewed. After performing the subtractions required by it, the different lattice methods yield results in agreement with each other. New results on the topology of the SU(2) Yang-Mills theory are presented. At zero temperature we obtain the value of the topological susceptibility by using the recently introduced smeared operators as well as a properly renormalized geometric definition. Both determinations are in agreement. At non-zero temperature we study the behaviour of the topological susceptibility across the confinement transition pointing out some qualitative differences with respect to the analogous result for the SU(3) gauge theory., Comment: 3 pages, 4 figures, contribution to Lattice-97. Recent network calculations suggest that a high temperature rp-process could explain the abundances of light Mo and Ru isotopes, which have long challenged models of p-process nuclide production. Important ingredients to network calculations involving unstable nuclei near and at the proton drip line are $\beta$-halflives and decay modes, i.e., whether or not $\beta$-delayed proton decay takes place. Of particular importance to these network calculation are the proton-rich isotopes $^{96}$Ag, $^{98}$Ag, $^{96}$Cd and $^{98}$Cd.
