Little is available in mathematics education research about what the teacher can anticipate from the students when applying inquiry-based learning (IBL). Even less is known about how to recognize and exploit on the spot when a mathematical domain, other than the one in focus, is activated in the students' minds. Yet, in tests, in everyday life, and the labour market, it is common to face problems that require interrelated mathematical thinking. Although one of the unique advantages of complex mathematics education (CME) is the coherence between different domains and CME has been practiced for over half a century in Hungary, the Hungarian line of IBL has only recently joined the international methodological mainstream. In this paper, I summarize a segment of IBL correspondent to CME and integrated mathematics education, and I illustrate the possible divergence of solutions during implementation with an example that emerged about a probability game in a fifth-grade class.

Transformed roots of Salvia austriaca were cultivated for 45 days in various systems, including Erlenmeyer flasks, a temporary immersion system (TIS) bioreactor, and a mist-trickling bioreactor, under controlled light conditions. The mist-trickling bioreactor yielded the highest biomass, with fresh and dry weights of 155.4 g/L and 10.2 g/L, respectively. Quantitative UHPLC analysis of hydromethanolic extracts revealed the biosynthesis of significant phenolic acids: caffeic acid, rosmarinic acid, and salvianolic acid A. Among these, rosmarinic acid was the most abundant, with its concentration varying based on the cultivation system. The highest total phenolic acid content, 165 mg/L, was obtained in the mist-trickling bioreactor, demonstrating its superiority in both biomass production and phenolic acid biosynthesis. Background: Cardiac rotational parameters in primary symptomatic left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC) with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) are not well understood. We aimed to analyze cardiac rotation measured with cardiac magnetic resonance feature-tracking (CMR-FT) and speckle-tracking echocardiography (Echo-ST) in LVNC morphology subjects with preserved LVEF and different genotypes and healthy controls. Methods: Our retrospective study included 54 LVNC subjects with preserved LVEF and 54 control individuals. We evaluated functional and rotational parameters with CMR in the total study population and with echocardiography in 39 LVNC and 40 C individuals. All LVNC subjects were genotyped with a 174-gene next-generation sequencing panel and grouped into the subgroups: benign (B), variant of uncertain significance (VUS), and pathogenic (P). Results: In comparison with controls, LVNC subjects had reduced apical rotational degree (p = 0.004) and one-third had negative apical rotation. While the degree of apical rotation was comparable between the three genetic subgroups, they differed significantly in the direction of apical rotation (p<0.001). In contrast to control and B groups, all four studied cardiac rotational patterns were identified in the P and VUS subgroups, namely normal rotation, positive and negative rigid body rotation, and reverse rotation. When the CMR-FT and Echo-ST methods were compared, the direction and pattern of cardiac rotation had moderate to good association (p<0.001) whereas the rotational degrees showed no reasonable correlation or agreement. Conclusion: While measuring cardiac rotation using both CMR-FT and Echo-ST methods, subclinical mechanical differences were identified in subjects with LVNC phenotype and preserved LVEF, especially in cases with genetic involvement. Carica papaya L. belongs to Caricaceae family. It is an evergreen tree or shrub with usually unbranched trunk. Previous studies on the methanolic leaf extract of this plant proved the antibacterial, cytotoxic, anticancer and antioxidant effects indicative of promising therapeutic potentials.

Callus cultures of the Iranian medicinal plant Salvia atropatana were initiated from three-week-old seedlings on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and various cytokinins. Although all tested hormonal variants of the medium and explant enabled callus induction, the most promising growth was noted for N-(2-chloro-4-pyridyl)-N′-phenylurea (CPPU)-induced calli. Three lines obtained on this medium (cotyledon line-CL, hypocotyl line—HL, and root line—RL) were preselected for further studies. Phenolic compounds in the callus tissues were identified using UPLC–MS (ultra-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry) and quantified with HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography). All lines exhibited intensive growth and contained twelve phenolic acid derivatives, with rosmarinic acid predominating. The cotyledon-derived callus line displayed the highest growth index values and polyphenol content; this was exposed to different light-emitting diodes (LED) for improving biomass accumulation and secondary metabolite yield. Under LED treatments, all callus lines exhibited enhanced RA and total phenolic content compared to fluorescent light, with the highest levels observed for white (48.5–50.2 mg/g dry weight) and blue (51.4–53.9 mg/g dry weight) LEDs. The selected callus demonstrated strong antioxidant potential in vitro based on the 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) tests. Our findings confirm that the S. atropatana callus system is suitable for enhanced rosmarinic acid production; the selected optimized culture provide high-quality plant-derived products.
