A lysine sensor for process control of lysine fermentation was developed based on a Clark-type electrode in combination with L-lysine-α-oxidase. The enzyme, isolated from Trichoderma viride, was immobilized between a cellulose and a polypropylene foil using a polyurethane resin. Lysine determinations were carried out in a flow-through system as anodic measurements when H 2 O 2 was measured and as cathodic measurements when the consumption of O 2 was followed. The frequency dependence of the electrode admittance of sodium decyl sulphate solutions above the critical micellar concentration was measured at the more negative ad/desorption potential. The following models, out of a series of possible models, could be selected by non-linear regression: one process with diffusion control; two diffusion-controlled processes occurring in parallel; two parallel processes, one of them diffusion-controlled the other adsorption-controlled.
