This paleomagnetic study on the Myall blocks of the southern New England Orogen complements studies on four other Tamworth Belt blocks aiming to unravel evolution of the Tamworth Belt and the Manning Orocline in particular. Focus is on ignimbritic successions that have partly interlinked stratigraphies across the five blocks and can retain primary magnetisations despite prevalent overprinting. This makes the Tamworth Belt prospective to oroclinal testing by comparing poles and pole paths for individual blocks across its curved structure. Paleomagnetic, rock magnetic and magnetic fabric results are detailed from an upper lower Carboniferous to lower Permian succession, sampled across forearc basin and arc sites (64) of the western Myall Block and forearc basin sites (16) of the eastern Myall Block. Predominantly thermal demagnetisations show a widely present low-temperature component, attributed to late Oligocene weathering, intermediate-temperature primary and overprint components confined to the Nerong Volcanics, and high-temperature primary and overprint components. Overprinting proved more prevalent in the Myall blocks than in other Tamworth Belt blocks, with five phases dated from mid-Carboniferous to mid-Triassic. Comparison of primary and overprint poles against Carboniferous, Permian and Triassic reference paths shows counterclockwise rotations ranging from 20–45° for the western Myall Block forearc basin, to 30° to 90° west to east across the southwestern Myall Block arc complex, to 85–110° for the eastern Myall Block forearc basin, occurring from the latest Carboniferous–early Permian Tablelands phase probably to the mid- to late Permian initial pulse of the Hunter-Bowen phase. The southwestern Myall Block also shows a mid-Triassic, or later, clockwise rotation ranging west to east from 50° to 110°. Paleomagnetism of upper lower Carboniferous to lower Permian successions of the Myall blocks constrains evolution of the Manning Orocline. The Myall blocks are heavily affected by overprints, with five phases dated from mid-Carboniferous to mid-Triassic. Primary and overprint magnetisations show various counterclockwise and clockwise rotations of the western, eastern and southwestern parts of the Myall blocks. Counterclockwise rotations occurred from latest Carboniferous–earliest Permian probably to mid- to late Permian and clockwise rotation during or after mid-Triassic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Four oroclinal structures have been identified from structural, magnetic and gravity trends across a Carboniferous continental arc, forearc basin [Tamworth Belt (TB)] and conjugate accretionary complex in the southern New England Orogen (SNEO) of eastern Australia. None of the structures has yet been confirmed conclusively by paleomagnetism as oroclinal. Ignimbrites are common within the forearc basin and have been demonstrated to retain primary magnetisations despite prevalent overprinting. They are well exposed across six major tectono-stratigraphic blocks with partly interlinked stratigraphies, making the forearc basin highly prospective to oroclinal testing by comparing pole path segments for individual blocks across curved structures. Paleomagnetic studies have shown no noticeable rotation across the western/southwestern TB (Rocky Creek, Werrie and Rouchel blocks), but documented herein is a minor counter-clockwise rotation of the Gresford Block of the southern TB. This study details paleomagnetic, rock magnetic and magnetic fabric results for 87 sites (969 samples) across the southern Gresford Block. Predominantly thermal, also alternating field and liquid nitrogen, demagnetisations show a widely present low-temperature overprint, attributed to regional late Oligocene weathering, and high-temperature primary and overprint components residing in both mainly magnetite and mainly hematite carriers. Subtle, but systematic, directional differences between magnetite and hematite subcomponents show the latter as the better cleaned, better-defined, preferred results, detailing nine primary poles of middle and late Carboniferous ages and Permian and Permo-Triassic overprints as observed elsewhere in the western/southwestern TB. The primary poles update a poorly defined mid-Carboniferous section of the SNEO pole path and demonstrate counter-clockwise rotation, quantified at about 15° ± 13° from comparison of mid-Carboniferous Martins Creek Ignimbrite Member poles for the Rouchel and Gresford blocks, that may not necessarily have been completed prior to the Hunter–Bowen phase of the Gondwanide Orogeny. This minor counter-clockwise rotation of the Gresford Block accentuates a primary curvature of the southwestern/southern TB and heralds further, more complex, rotations of the Myall Block of the southeastern TB. The abolition of the Dutch milk quota system has been accompanied by the introduction of a new manure policy to limit phosphate production (i.e., excretion via manure) on expanding dairy farms. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of these recent policy changes on the farm structure, management, labor income, nitrogen and phosphate surpluses, and greenhouse gas emissions of an average Dutch dairy farm. The new manure policy requires that any increase in phosphate production be partly processed and partly applied to additional farmland. In addition, phosphate quotas have been introduced. Herein, we used a wholefarm optimization model to simulate an average farm before and after quota abolition and introduction of the new manure policy. The objective function of the model maximized labor income. We combined the model with a farm nutrient balance and life-cycle assessment to determine environmental impact. Based on current prices, increasing the number of cows after quota abolition was profitable until manure processing or additional land was required to comply with the new manure policy. Manure processing involved treatment so that phosphate was removed from the national manure market. Farm intensity in terms of milk per hectare increased by about 4%, from 13,578 kg before quota abolition to 14,130 kg after quota abolition. Labor income increased by €505/yr. When costs of manure processing decreased from €13 to €8/t of manure or land costs decreased from €1,187 to €573/ha, farm intensity could increase up to 20% until the phosphate quota became limiting. Farms that had already increased their barn capacity to prepare for expansion after milk quota abolition could benefit from purchasing extra phosphate quota to use their full barn capacity. If milk prices increased from €355 to €420/t, farms could grow unlimited, provided that the availability of external inputs such as labor, land, barn capacity, feed, and phosphate quota at current prices were also unlimited. The milk quota abolition, accompanied by a new manure policy, will slightly increase nutrient losses per hectare, due to an increase in farm intensity. Greenhouse gas emissions per unit of milk will hardly change, so at a given milk production per cow, total greenhouse gas emissions will increase linearly with an increase in the number of cows. The article discusses the stratigraphic relationships between the Werrie and Rouchel blocks of the Tamworth Belt, southern New England Orogen. The authors state that the appropriate way to determine possible rotations within the Tamworth Belt is through a fold test around a vertical axis, by comparing pole path segments of equivalent age from different parts of the belt. They have concluded that there is no significant rotational deformation between the northwestern and southwestern parts of the belt.

Background: Black soldier fly larvae are converters of organic waste into edible biomass, of which the composition may depend on the substrate. In this study, larvae were grown on four substrates: chicken feed, vegetable waste, biogas digestate, and restaurant waste. Samples of prepupae and substrates were freeze-dried and proximate, amino acid, fatty acid and mineral analyses were performed., Results: Protein content of prepupae varied between 399 and 431 g kg -1 dry matter (DM) among treatments. Differences in amino acid profile of prepupae were small. On the other hand, the ether extract (EE) and ash contents differed substantially. Prepupae reared on digestate were low in EE and high in ash (218 and 197 g kg -1 DM, respectively) compared to those reared on vegetable waste (371 and 96 g kg -1 DM, respectively), chicken feed (336 and 100 g kg -1 DM, respectively) and restaurant waste (386 and 27 g kg -1 DM, respectively). Prepupal fatty acid profiles were characterised by high levels of C12:0 in all treatments., Conclusion: Since protein content and quality were high and comparable for prepupae reared on different substrates, black soldier fly could be an interesting protein source for animal feeds.
