Dėl istoriskai susiklosciusių kontrafakcijų gamybos bei sklaidos aplinkybių, caro valdžios vykdomo persekiojimo dauguma islikusių leidinių yra reti. Turimi duomenys leidžia daryti isvadą, kad kontrafakcijų rinkinio knygos dėl retų egzempliorių, rankrastinių įrasų kirilika ir lotyniskais rasmenimis, marginalijų ir kitų knygos ženklų yra vertingas knygos ir kultūros istorijos tyrinėjimų saltinis. RARE AND VALUABLE LITHUANIAN CONTRAFACTIONS (1865–1904) OF THE KAUNAS COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY RAMUNĖ DAMBRAUSKIENĖ Abstract Old and Rare Books Department of the Kau­nas County Public Library (further referred to as KCPL) preserves over 200 thousand copies of books, periodicals, maps, manuscripts from the 15th–mid 20th century in Lithuanian and foreign languages. Written cultural heritage stored in the library is the only heritage of this type in Kaunas County and the largest among all County Public Libraries of Lithuania. An important part of the collection is Lithuanian contrafactions published in the press prohibiti­on period (1864–1904). The collection contains 465 publications of 218 titles, which constitu­te 26.2 percent of all published contrafactions (833). According to the presently known statis­tics, 41.7 percent of the contrafactions stored at the KCPL are rare (up to 10 remaining copies); among them, there are 2 unique publications, 12 rarities, 19 especially rare publications. The major part of the collection consists of religious publications: prayer-books, saints’ lives, ascetic literature, etc. One fifth of the collection con­sists of secular books: fiction, calendars, hou­sehold-practical books, etc. The low quality of polygraphy and artistry of their bindings are mostly due to contrafaction production and dis­tribution conditions. Books were published at a low price, paperback, small in size and volume. More impressive were only prayer-book bin­dings. In the collection, 185 books are marked with various ownership insignias. There were found 255 book insignias: 124 institutional and personal stamps, 111 manuscript inscriptions, 12 glue marks, 4 ex-librises, 4 super-ex-librises; 51 books contain marginalia, mostly those from the Samogitian Priest Seminary Library. Manu­script inscriptions written in the Cyrillic alpha­bet show the influence of the press prohibition period on the culture of Lithuanian script. Pro­venances of the KCPL contrafactions, margina­lia, book binding, etc. reflect the reading culture of the late 19th–early 20th century and are a source for the further investigation of the book and script history. The KCPL contrafactions are a significant supplement of national bibliograp­hy: 321 copies are not registered in the publica­tions of retrospective national bibliography and in the data-bank of the Bibliography and Book Science Centre of the National Library. This written heritage is valuable for the Kaunas regi­on for its amount and content, which represents the period of press prohibition. Straipsnyje nagrinėjama periodinės spaudos pradžia Lietuvos Didžiojoje Kunigaikštystėje (LDK). XVIII amžiuje LDK Vilniuje ir Gardine pasirodė devynių pavadinimų laikraščiai: „Kurier Litewski“, 1760-1763; „Supplement do Gazet Wileńskich“, 1761-1792; „Wiadomości Literackie“, 1760-1763; „Wiadomości Cudzoziemskie“, 1760-1764; „Gazety Wileńskie“, 1764-1792 (1793?); „Addytament do Gazet Wileńskich“, (spausdintas nereguliariai); „Gazeta Grodzieńska“, 1775-1783; „Wiadomości Grodzienskie“, 1792; „Gazeta Narodowa Wileńska“, 1794. Straipsnyje aprašomi Lietuvos mokslų akademijos Vrublevskių bibliotekoje saugomi XVIII a. LDK periodinių leidinių komplektai, aptariami juose esantys knygos ženklai. A valuable part of the Old Periodical collections in the Rare Book Department in the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences is made up by 18th century periodicals of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL). Newspapers printed in Western Europe first appeared in the early 17th century. The first GDL periodicals emerged in the second half of the 18th century. The publishing of periodicals was limited by low literacy levels in the GDL, slow growth of city, poor state of roads and the related malfunctioning of postal service. In 1760-1794, nine titles of newspapers came out in Vilnius and Grodno. The GDL’s first periodical, "Kurier Litewski", with supplements "Wiadomości Literackie", "Wiadomości Cudzoziemskie" and "Supplement do Gazet Wileńskich" started coming out in 1760 in the printing house of Vilnius Academy. It was edited by the prefects of the printing house: Pranciškus Paprockis, Aleksandras Januškevičius and others. In 1763 the printing house of the Vilnius Academy reorganized the publishing of its newspapers. The production of "Kurier Litewski" and its supplements was stopped. In 1764, the newspaper "Gazety Wileńskie" started to be published and it continued until 1793. In total, the printing house of the Vilnius Academy in 1760-1794 published 35 sets of periodicals. Another GDL centre of periodical publishing in the 18th century was Grodno, a city where two titles of periodicals – "Gazeta Grodzieńska" (1775-1783) and "Wiadomości Grodzienskie" (1792) – came out. Seven titles of newspapers are kept in the Old Periodical holdings of the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. There is not a single title for which complete sets have been collected; however, no other library has them either. The periodicals from the library’s holdings bear numerous book markings: manuscript inscriptions, labels, stamps of personal and institution libraries, supralibros. The binding of "Kurier Litewski" for 1760 and 1763 is decorated by the supralibros of the Vilnius Public Library, while the sets of "Gazety Wileńskie" for 1770 and 1771 have stamps of the Library of the Vilnius Medical Society (1805-1914, 1920-1939). Book markings provide valuable information about former owners of the publications.

Molėtų dekanato bažnyčiose per ilgą laiką susikaupė bibliotekos, kurių knygų rinkinių ar jų fragmentų, pavienių knygų galima aptikti ir dabartinių bažnyčių zakristijose, palėpėse, klebonijose, bažnyčios chore. Didžiausi knygų rinkiniai saugomi Molėtų (243 knygos), Giedraičių (apie 50), Suginčių (apie 40), Kuktiškių (apie 150), Labanoro (apie 40), mažesni – Joniškio, Videniškių, Inturkės, Kirdeikių, Saldutiškio, Stirnių ir kt. bažnyčiose. Daugelyje senųjų knygų yra išlikusių rankraštinių įrašų, antspaudų, pastabų paraštėse (marginalijų), kuriuos atitinkamuose tyrinėjimuose priimta vadinti knygų ženklais. Šiame straipsnyje aptariami išlikę knygų ženklai: rankraštiniai įrašai, antspaudai, pastabos paraštėse (marginalijos). Knygų ženklai rodo, kad būta ne tik bažnytinių bibliotekų sensu stricto su liturginėmis ir apeiginėmis knygomis, bet ir parankinių parapijos, klebonijos, taip pat asmeninių kunigų bibliotekėlių su homiletine literatūra, pamokslų rinkiniais, teologijos veikalais. Institucinėms ir asmeninėms bibliotekoms priklausiusių knygų ženklai atskleidžia labai margą, įvairų ir savitą Molėtų krašto knygos pasaulį. Nuosavybės ženklai (antspaudai, lipdės, įrašai), marginalijos, paratekstai, intarpai knygose pateikti įvairiomis kalbomis (lenkų, rusų, lotynų, lietuvių). Jie atskleidžia sudėtingą krašto etnokultūrinę padėtį, bendruomenių tapatumų kaitą. Ypač svarbu, kad istoriniu požiūriu ryškėja ne tik apibrėžtos bažnyčių ir parapijų teritorijos, bet ir dekanatų bei vyskupijų žinių komunikacijos ryšiai, apimantys plačią diachroninę perspektyvą. A considerable number of books that belonged to various institutions as well as individuals, mostly priests are preserved in the active churches of the Molėtai deanery. Their book signs indicate that there were not only church libraries sensustricto with liturgical and ritual books, but also small parish, pastor’s house, as well personal priest libraries with homily literature, collections of sermons, theological works. The book signs belonging to institutional and personal libraries reveal the very many colored, diverse and original world of the Molėtai territory. Signs of ownership (seals, inserts, and inscriptions), marginalia, para texts, and insertions in the books are written in various languages (Polish, Russian, Latin, Lithuanian) and indicate the complicated ethnocultural situation of the territory, the changes in the identity of the communities. It is especially important that from a historical perspective not only the communication ties of the territory’s churches and parishes become clearer, but also of the deaneries and dioceses, comprising a broad diachronic perspective. Book signs are a means and instrument to recognize the traditions of a particular region, reflected in the book culture. Fundamental component parts were offering and charity. The members of the parish community, including the clergy, donated books, especially liturgical and church choir ones, for common use. In this way institutional libraries were being created. Unfortunately, in many cases because of the 20th c. occupations and atheistic propaganda they were scattered, destroyed, losing their primary Christian mission and ties with earlier generations.

LDK didikų Radvilų giminė savo valdose buvo sukaupusi gausius ir reikšmingus knygų rinkinius. Viena iš turtingiausių laikoma Nesvyžiaus pilies biblioteka, kurią XVI a. viduryje pradėjo kaupti Lietuvos didysis kancleris Mikalojus Radvila Juodasis. Susidomėti Nesvyžiaus ordinacijos Radvilų kultūros paveldu Lietuvoje paskatino kaimyninių šalių – Lenkijos, Baltarusijos (iš dalies ir Rusijos) – kultūros įstaigų iniciatyvos ištirti Nesvyžiaus Radvilų kultūrinį palikimą, pasklidusį po įvairias valstybes. Lietuvos bibliotekose yra žinoma tik keletas išlikusių egzempliorių su Nesvyžiaus Radvilų ekslibrisais: trys – Lietuvos mokslų akademijos bibliotekoje, po vieną – Vilniaus universiteto ir Kauno technologijos universiteto bibliotekose bei Kazio Varnelio namų-muziejaus knygų rinkinyje. Į K. Estreicherio bibliografijos institute sukurtą elektroninį Nesvyžiaus Radvilų bibliotekos senųjų knygų katalogą įtrauktas ir vienas Lietuvos mokslų akademijos bibliotekos egzempliorius. Tik sisteminga senųjų knygų fondų patikra ir proveniencijos registravimas leis atskleisti dar ne vieną tokią knygą, papildysiančią tarptautinę rekonstruojamos bibliotekos katalogo duomenų bazę. The Radziwills, an aristocratic family of the Great Duchy of Lithuania, amassed sizable book collections at their estates. Notable is the Nesvizh castle collection, started in the middle of the XVI century by the Great Chancellor of Lithuania, Mikalojus Radvila (Radziwill) the Black. In 1772, after the first division of the Republic of the Two Nations, this collection – one of the state’s largest personal libraries – was removed to the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Pe¬tersburg. The interest in the cultural heritage of the Nesvizh Radziwills in Lithuania was prompted by the iniciative of the cultural institutions of neighbour countries (Poland, Bielorussia and, to a certain degree, Russia) to study the heritage of the Nesvizh Radziwills, dispersed through¬out various countries. The last year, the virtual reconstruction of the Radziwills’ collection in Nesvizh was a subject of international scientific conferences and meetings, and of an international pilot project.In Lithuanian libraries, there are several remaining copies with the ex-librises of the Nesvizh Radziwills: three in the Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, one each in the libraries of Vilnius University, of the Kaunas University of Technology and of the Kazys Varnelis house-museum. The electronic catalogue of the Nesvizh Radziwills’ library, compiled in the Karol Estreicher Institute of Polish Bibliography, includes, among others, a copy from the Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.

Straipsnyje pristatoma ir aptariama keturiolika žmogų vaizduojančių piešinių, aptiktų XVII–XIX a. pirmosios pusės Lietuvoje funkcionavusiose spausdintose ir rankraštinėse knygose. Visi piešiniai padaryti knygų paraštėse, autoriams jų piešimas buvo ne iš anksto sumanytas darbas, o pašmaikštavimas, plunksnos mėginimas ar nesąmoningas tepliojimas. Todėl aptariamiems portretams apibūdinti pasitelkti portretinių graffiti ir – kaip sinonimas – portretinių marginalijų terminai. Pagal formalią marginalinių piešinių klasifikaciją du nagrinėjami marginaliniai portretai priskirti savarankiškiems ir užbaigtiems kūriniams, turintiems savo kompoziciją (nr. 10 ir 14); dešimt marginalinių portretų reprezentuoja papaišymus, laikytinus eskiziškomis skaitytojo (dokumento vartotojo) impresijomis (nr. 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13);paterliojimams, papaišymams, neturintiems nieko bendra su menine percepcija ir artimiems knygų graffiti, prilygintini du portretai (nr. 1, 3). Dokumentinės ir socialinės komunikacijos požiūriu aptariami marginaliniai piešiniai neturėjo aiškaus adresato, jie padaryti ne viešam, o asmeniniam naudojimui. Asmeninėse knygose palikti marginaliniai portretai meniškesni, jų kompozicija laisvesnė. Apskritai LDK marginaliniai portretai atskleidžia nemažai panašumų į Neapolio banko archyvo darbuotojų dokumentuose paliktas graffiti (it. scarabocchi), kurias išsamiai ištyrė ir suklasifikavo menininkas ir archyvaras Giuseppe Zevola. Jo nuomone, neapoliečių dokumentinė graffiti gimė oponuojant pilkai kasdienybei ir patiriant „nerimo malonumą“. The article presents and discusses 14 drawings of a human that were found in manuscripts and printed books (documents) actively used in Lithuania in the 17th-19th centuries. All the drawings were made in the margins of the documents. To the authors, the drawings were not planned work but more like scribbling. Therefore, the terms of portrait graffiti and (as synonym) portrait marginalia are used to describe the discussed portraits. According to the formal classification of marginal drawings, two of the examined marginal portraits (10 and 14) are classed as separate and finished works with their composition; ten marginal portraits (2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 14) represent sketchy drawings of readers (document users). The remaining two drawings (1 and 3) are simply scribbles that have nothing to do with artistic perception and are very close to book graffiti. From the artistic approach, the most sophisticated of the marginal portraits are “the hunt scene” (14) and the portrait of a teacher (13). In the view of documentary and social communication, the discussed marginal portraits did not have a direct addressee. They were made for personal rather than public use. All in all, the marginal portraits reveal quite a few similarities to the graffiti left in the documents by the workers of the Naples Bank Archive. They were properly examined and classified by artist and archivist Giuseppe Zevola. In his words, the documental graffiti was born out of opposition to the boring everyday routine and experience of „pleasure of anxiety.“

Knygotyros požiūriu ekslibrisas – tai knygos nuosavybės ženklų rūšis. Dailėtyros – vienas iš taikomosios dailės žanrų. Iš kitų žanrų jis išsiskiria tuo, kad yra skiriamas konkrečiam subjektui. Specifinėmis grafikos išraiškos priemonėmis dailininkas apibūdina knygos savininką – ekslibriso adresatą. Tai savitas komunikavimo būdas, kai dailininkas siunčia dėmesio ženklą subjektui, kuriam skiriamas kūrinys. Jei ekslibrisas naudojamas pagal paskirtį – knygų nuosavybės ženklinimui, santykis tarp dailininko ir adresato yra uždaras. Kai ekslibrisas eksponuojamas parodose, dailininkas dalijasi įspūdžiais apie adresatą su žiūrovu. Vadinasi, ekslibrisas – iš verbalinių ir grafinių elementų susidedantis pranešimas, kurį dailininkas siunčia adresatui ir žiūrovui. Tyrinėdami XX a. antrosios pusės Lietuvos ekslibrisą susiduriame dar ir su kitokio pobūdžio komunikacija. Maždaug 7-ojo dešimtmečio pabaigoje Lietuvos dailininkai atrado ekslibrisą kaip žanrą, padedantį užmegzti kontaktus su užsienio šalių kolekcininkais ir menininkais, pažinti pasaulio dailės aktualijas, pristatyti naujausias Lietuvos grafikos tendencijas. Šis reiškinys vadinamas menine komunikacija, nes bendravimas, keitimasis informacija su užsienio ekslibristais tiesiogiai įtakojo ekslibriso žanro populiarėjimą Lietuvoje, suteikė impulsą dailininkams susidomėti juo. Straipsnio tikslas – ištirti tokios komunikacijos pobūdį, kelius ir joje dalyvavusius žmones, išsiaiškinti, kokiais būdais ji vyko. From the point of view of book studies, the bookplate represents a type of signs indicating ownership of a book. Art criticism interprets the bookplate as one of the genres of applied arts. The feature that distinguishes it from other genres is its dedication to a specific person. The artist uses specific expressive graphic means to characterise the owner of a book. This is a peculiar way of communication when the artist expresses a sign of attention to a person to whom the work is dedicated. When a bookplate is used for its intended purpose, i.e. as a sign of a book's ownership, the relation between the artist and the owner is private. If a bookplate appears on displays, the artist shares his impressions of the owner with the viewer. Thus, a bookplate is a message of verbal and graphic elements that the artist sends to the owner and the viewer. Studies of Lithuanian bookplates from the second half of the 20th c. also reveal communication of a different nature. Around the end of the 1960s, Lithuanian artists discovered the bookplate as a genre that helped establish contacts with foreign collectors and artists, to learn about relevant topics of world art and to introduce the latest trends of Lithuanian graphic art. This phenomenon is referred to as artistic communication, as communication and information exchange with foreign bookplate collectors and artists had a direct impact of the spread of popularity of this genre in Lithuania, giving an impulse to artists to take interest in the bookplate. The purpose of the paper is to analyse the nature and ways of this type of communication, people who participated in such communication and methods of its implementation.

Paskolų tekstai, laiškų rašymo formuliarai, girtuoklystės kritika, šmaikštūs posakiai ir priežodžiai, užkeikimai, šeimos ir giminės istorijėlės, pagaliau įvairios teplionės (tarp jų esama ir gana dailių) – tai tik menka dalis kažkada Lietuvoje įženklinto knygos pasaulio, kurį palengva atveria senosios knygų saugyklos. Dalis rankraštinių įrašų, nepaisant skirtingo užrašymo laiko ir intencijų, priskirtini veikiau sakytinei, nei rašytinei kultūrai, neseniai buvo įvardyti kaip senųjų knygų graffiti. Knygoje pateikiamas pluoštas naujų šią specifinę knygos kultūros sritį atspindinčių ženklų. Šie knygų ženklai rodo, kad rašto kultūra LDK skleidėsi ne tik oficialioje spausdintoje erdvėje, bet ir rankraščiuose bei knygų paraštėse. Žiniomis, įspūdžiais, emocijomis, apskritai informacija raštingas žmogus, siekė pasidalyti – tiesa, dažniausiai neįvardydamas adresato. Trūkstant informacijos įstaigų, efektyviai veikė neinstitucionalizuota žinių perdavimo sistema. Kita vertus, be pastaruoju metu mėginamų aptarti skaitymo, rašymo ir sakymo problemų (reiškinių) LDK kultūroje, atkreiptinas dėmesys į tylos (tylėjimo) fenomeną. Akivaizdu, kad be triukšmingų krikščioniškų praktikų, vienuolynuose nuo X V a. skleidėsi alternatyvi, dažnai oponuojanti vyraujančiam komunikacijos modeliui, kultūra. Užkeikimai, prakeikimai, gąsdinimai knygose vertintini keliais aspektais. Viena vertus, jie sudarė tik vieną grandį išsikerojusioje krikščioniškų apeigų sistemoje. Kita vertus, užkeikimai veikė kaip baimės, persmelkusios Viduramžių žmogų, priešnuodis. Texts of loan, templates of letters, criticism of alcoholism, smart phrases and bywords, incantations, stories of family and relatives, even various kitsch (including some rather nice ones) is but a small part of world of books produced in Lithuania years ago, that is now gradually opened by the old book depositories. Some manuscript records, despite different time and intentions of recording are classified as spoken rather than written culture and were recently referred to as graffiti in the old books. The book provides a set of new symbols reflecting this specific field of book culture. These symbols in the books demonstrate that written culture in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (LDK) was progressing not only in official printed environment but also in manuscripts and book margins. An educated man would seek to share his knowledge, impressions, emotions and information in general, although mostly with no specific addressee. In the lack of information institutions, an institutionalized knowledge transfer system operated efficiently. However apart from recent intentions to discuss reading, writing and speaking issues (phenomena) in the LDK culture, one must point out the phenomena of silence. Clearly apart from loud Christian practices the monasteries since the 18th century was a place where alternative culture, often opposing prevailing communication model, spread. Incantations, curses and intimidations found in books should be examined on several aspects. They presented just a link in the complex system of Christian services. However, incantations also presented a cure for fear, permeating the Medieval man.
