Product recommendation systems have been instrumental in online commerce since the early days. Their development is expanded further with the help of big data and advanced deep learning methods, where consumer profiling is central. The interest of the consumer can now be predicted based on the personal past choices and the choices of similar consumers. However, what is currently defined as a choice is based on quantifiable data, like product features, cost, and type. This paper investigates the possibility of profiling customers based on the preferred product design and wanted affects. We considered the case of vase design, where we study individual Kansei of each design. The personal aspects of the consumer considered in this study were decided based on our literature review conclusions on the consumer response to product design. We build a representative consumer model that constitutes the recommendation system's core using deep learning. Measurements of the luminosity function of active galactic nuclei (AGN) at high redshift ($z\gtrsim 6$) are expected to suffer from field-to-field variance, including cosmic and Poisson variances. Future surveys, such as those from the Euclid telescope and James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), will also be affected by field variance. We use the Uchuu simulation, a state-of-the-art cosmological $N$-body simulation with 2.1 trillion particles in a volume of $25.7~\mathrm{Gpc}^3$, combined with a semi-analytic galaxy and AGN formation model, to generate the Uchuu-$\nu^2$GC catalog, publicly available, that allows us to investigate the field-to-field variance of the luminosity function of AGN. With this Uchuu-$\nu^2$GC model, we quantify the cosmic variance as a function of survey area, AGN luminosity, and redshift. In general, cosmic variance decreases with increasing survey area and decreasing redshift. We find that at $z\sim6-7$, the cosmic variance depends weakly on AGN luminosity. This is because the typical mass of dark matter haloes in which AGN reside does not significantly depend on luminosity. Due to the rarity of AGN, Poisson variance dominates the total field-to-field variance, especially for bright AGN. We also examine the effect of parameters related to galaxy formation physics on the field variance. We present a new catalog of $9318$ Ly$\alpha$ emitter (LAE) candidates at $z = 2.2$, $3.3$, $4.9$, $5.7$, $6.6$, and $7.0$ that are photometrically selected by the SILVERRUSH program with a machine learning technique from large area (up to $25.0$ deg$^2$) imaging data with six narrowband filters taken by the Subaru Strategic Program with Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC SSP) and a Subaru intensive program, Cosmic HydrOgen Reionization Unveiled with Subaru (CHORUS). We construct a convolutional neural network that distinguishes between real LAEs and contaminants with a completeness of $94$% and a contamination rate of $1$%, enabling us to efficiently remove contaminants from the photometrically selected LAE candidates. We confirm that our LAE catalogs include $177$ LAEs that have been spectroscopically identified in our SILVERRUSH programs and previous studies, ensuring the validity of our machine learning selection. In addition, we find that the object-matching rates between our LAE catalogs and our previous results are $\simeq 80$-$100$% at bright NB magnitudes of $\lesssim 24$ mag. We also confirm that the surface number densities of our LAE candidates are consistent with previous results. We present the quasar luminosity function at $z \sim 5$ derived from the optical wide-field survey data obtained as a part of the Subaru strategic program (SSP) with Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC). From $\sim$81.8 deg$^2$ area in the Wide layer of the HSC-SSP survey, we selected 224 candidates of low-luminosity quasars at $z \sim 5$ by adopting the Lyman-break method down to $i = 24.1$ mag. Based on our candidates and spectroscopically-confirmed quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), we derived the quasar luminosity function at $z \sim 5$ covering a wide luminosity range of $-28.76 < M_{\rm 1450} < -22.32$ mag. We found that the quasar luminosity function is fitted by a double power-law model with a break magnitude of $M^{*}_{1450} = -25.05^{+0.10}_{-0.24}$ mag. The inferred number density of low-luminosity quasars is lower, and the derived faint-end slope, $-1.22^{+0.03}_{-0.10}$, is flatter than those of previous studies at $z \sim 5$. A compilation of the quasar luminosity function at $4 \leq z \leq 6$ from the HSC-SSP suggests that there is little redshift evolution in the break magnitude and in the faint-end slope within this redshift range, although previous studies suggest that the faint-end slope becomes steeper at higher redshifts. We construct a model of H$\alpha$ emitters (HAEs) based on a semi-analytic galaxy formation model, the New Numerical Galaxy Catalog ($\nu^2$GC). In this paper, we report our estimate for the field variance of the HAE distribution. By calculating the H$\alpha$ luminosity from the star-formation rate of galaxies, our model well reproduces the observed H$\alpha$ luminosity function (LF) at $z=0.4$. The large volume of the $\nu^2$GC makes it possible to examine the spatial distribution of HAEs over a region of (411.8 Mpc)$^3$ in the comoving scale. The surface number density of $z=0.4$ HAEs with $L_{\rm H\alpha} \geq 10^{40}$ erg s$^{-1}$ is 308.9 deg$^{-2}$. We have confirmed that the HAE is a useful tracer for the large-scale structure of the Universe because of their significant overdensity ($>$ 5$\sigma$) at clusters and the filamentary structures. The H$\alpha$ LFs within a survey area of $\sim$2 deg$^2$ (typical for previous observational studies) show a significant field variance up to $\sim$1 dex. We present our ALMA Band 8 observations of a damped Ly${\alpha}$ absorption (DLA) system at $z$=3.150 observed in the spectrum of the quasar Q2233+131 at $z$=3.295. The optical counterpart of this DLA has been identified and it shows a double-peaked Ly${\alpha}$ emission line. Since one possible origin of DLAs at high redshift is an outflowing gas from star-forming galaxies, DLA2233+131 provides a good laboratory to investigate the nature of high-$z$ DLAs. Motivated by this, we have carried out ALMA band 8 observations to study the [C II] line in this system. However, we do not detect any significant emission line in the observed pass bands. Instead, we have serendipitously found three submm continuum sources in the observed sky area. One appears to be the quasar Q2233+131 itself while the other two sources are newly identified submm galaxies (SMGs), called SMG1 and SMG2 in this paper. They are located at a separation of 400.7 and 800.1 from Q2233+131, respectively. Their 646 ${\mu}$m fluxes are 6.35 mJy and 6.43 mJy, respectively, being higher than that of Q2233+131, 3.62 mJy. Since these two SMGs are not detected in the optical images obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope and the Subaru Telescope, they have a very red spectral energy distribution. It is, therefore,suggested that they are high-redshift galaxies or very dusty galaxies at intermediate redshift although we cannot rule out the possibility that they are optically very faint SMG analogs at low redshift. We report the Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) discovery of two Ly$\alpha$ blobs (LABs), dubbed z70-1 and z49-1 at $z=6.965$ and $z=4.888$ respectively, that are Ly$\alpha$ emitters with a bright ($\log L_{\rm Ly\alpha}/{\rm [erg\ s^{-1}]}>43.4$) and spatially-extended Ly$\alpha$ emission, and present the photometric and spectroscopic properties of a total of seven LABs; the two new LABs and five previously-known LABs at $z=5.7-6.6$. The z70-1 LAB shows the extended Ly$\alpha$ emission with a scale length of $1.4\pm 0.2$ kpc, about three times larger than the UV continuum emission, making z70-1 the most distant LAB identified to date. All of the 7 LABs, except z49-1, exhibit no AGN signatures such as X-ray emission, {\sc Nv}$\lambda$1240 emission, or Ly$\alpha$ line broadening, while z49-1 has a strong {\sc Civ}$\lambda$1548 emission line indicating an AGN on the basis of the UV-line ratio diagnostics. We carefully model the point-spread functions of the HSC images, and conduct two-component exponential profile fitting to the extended Ly$\alpha$ emission of the LABs. The Ly$\alpha$ scale lengths of the core (star-forming region) and the halo components are $r_{\rm c}=0.6-1.2$ kpc and $r_{\rm h}=2.0-13.8$ kpc, respectively. The average $r_{\rm h}$ of the LABs falls on the extrapolation of the $r_{\rm h}$-Ly$\alpha$ luminosity relation of the Ly$\alpha$ halos around VLT/MUSE star-forming galaxies at the similar redshifts, suggesting that typical LABs at $z\gtrsim5$ are not special objects, but star-forming galaxies at the bright end., Comment: Submitted to ApJ

The observed value $\Lambda_{\rm obs}$ of the cosmological constant $\Lambda$ is extremely smaller than theoretical expectations, and the anthropic argument has been proposed as a solution to this problem because galaxies do not form when $\Lambda \gg \Lambda_{\rm obs}$. However, the contemporary galaxy formation theory predicts that stars form even with a high value of $\Lambda / \Lambda_{\rm obs} \sim$ 50, which makes the anthropic argument less persuasive. Here we calculate the probability distribution of $\Lambda$ using a model of cosmological galaxy formation, considering extinction of observers caused by radiation from nearby supernovae. The life survival probability decreases in a large $\Lambda$ universe because of higher stellar density. Using a reasonable rate of lethal supernovae, we find that the mean expectation value of $\Lambda$ can be close to $\Lambda_{\rm obs}$, and hence this effect may be essential to understand the small but nonzero value of $\Lambda$. We present the latest results of a semi-analytic model of galaxy formation, "New Numerical Galaxy Catalogue", which is combined with large cosmological N-body simulations. This model can reproduce statistical properties of galaxies at z < 6.0. We focus on the properties of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and supermassive black holes, especially on the accretion timescale onto black holes. We find that the number density of AGNs at z < 1.5 and at hard X-ray luminosity 10^{ 44 }< erg/s is underestimated compared with recent observational estimates when we assume the exponentially decreasing accretion rate and the accretion timescale which is proportional to the dynamical time of the host halo or the bulge, as is often assumed in semi-analytic models. We show that to solve this discrepancy, the accretion timescale of such less luminous AGNs instead should be a function of the black hole mass and the accreted gas mass. This timescale can be obtained from a phenomenological modelling of the gas angular momentum loss in the circumnuclear torus and/or the accretion disc. Such models predict a longer accretion timescale for less luminous AGNs at z < 1.0 than bright QSOs whose accretion timescale would be 10^{ 7-8 } yr. With this newly introduced accretion timescale, our model can explain the observed luminosity functions of AGNs at z < 6.0., Comment: 31 pages and 29 figures. Accepted for publication in MNRAS

Super-Eddington mass accretion has been suggested as an efficient mechanism to grow supermassive black holes (SMBHs). We investigate the imprint left by the radiative efficiency of the super-Eddington accretion process on the clustering of quasars using a new semi-analytic model of galaxy and quasar formation based on large-volume cosmological $N$-body simulations. Our model includes a simple model for the radiative efficiency of a quasar, which imitates the effect of photon trapping for a high mass accretion rate. We find that the model of radiative efficiency affects the relation between the quasar luminosity and the quasar host halo mass. The quasar host halo mass has only weak dependence on quasar luminosity when there is no upper limit for quasar luminosity. On the other hand, it has significant dependence on quasar luminosity when the quasar luminosity is limited by its Eddington luminosity. In the latter case, the quasar bias also depends on the quasar luminosity, and the quasar bias of bright quasars is in agreement with observations. We present the Ly$\alpha$ luminosity functions (LFs) at $z=$5.7 and 6.6 derived from a new large sample of 1,266 Ly$\alpha$ emitters (LAEs) identified in total areas of 14 and 21 deg$^2$, respectively, based on the early narrowband data of the Subaru/Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) survey. Together with careful Monte-Carlo simulations that account for the incompleteness of the LAE selection and the flux estimate systematics in the narrowband imaging, we have determined the Ly$\alpha$ LFs with the unprecedentedly small statistical and systematic uncertainties in a wide Ly$\alpha$ luminosity range of $10^{42.8-43.8}$ erg s$^{-1}$. We obtain the best-fit Schechter parameters of $L^{*}_{{\rm Lya}}=1.6^{+2.2}_{-0.6} (1.7^{+0.3}_{-0.7}) \times10^{43}$ erg s$^{-1}$, $\phi^{*}_{{\rm Lya}}=0.85^{+1.87}_{-0.77}\ (0.47^{+1.44}_{-0.44})\times10^{-4}$ Mpc$^{-3}$, and $\alpha=-2.6^{+0.6}_{-0.4}\ (-2.5^{+0.5}_{-0.5})$ at $z=5.7$ ($6.6$). We confirm that our best-estimate Ly$\alpha$ LFs are consistent with the majority of the previous studies, but find that our Ly$\alpha$ LFs do not agree with the high number densities of LAEs recently claimed by Matthee/Santos et al.'s studies that may overcorrect the incompleteness and the flux systematics. Our Ly$\alpha$ LFs at $z=5.7$ and $6.6$ show an indication that the faint-end slope is very steep ($\alpha \simeq -2.5$), although it is also possible that the bright-end LF results are enhanced by systematic effects such as the contribution from AGNs, blended merging galaxies, and/or large ionized bubbles around bright LAEs. Comparing our Ly$\alpha$ LF measurements with four independent reionization models, we estimate the neutral hydrogen fraction of the IGM to be $x_{\rm HI}=0.3\pm0.2$ at $z=$6.6 that is consistent with the small Thomson scattering optical depth obtained by Planck 2016., Comment: 21 pages, 14 figures, accepted for publication in PASJ special issue

We present Lya and UV-nebular emission line properties of bright Lya emitters (LAEs) at z=6-7 with a luminosity of log L_Lya/[erg s-1] = 43-44 identified in the 21-deg2 area of the SILVERRUSH early sample developed with the Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) survey data. Our optical spectroscopy newly confirm 21 bright LAEs with clear Lya emission, and contribute to make a spectroscopic sample of 96 LAEs at z=6-7 in SILVERRUSH. From the spectroscopic sample, we select 7 remarkable LAEs as bright as Himiko and CR7 objects, and perform deep Keck/MOSFIRE and Subaru/nuMOIRCS near-infrared spectroscopy reaching the 3sigma-flux limit of ~ 2x10^{-18} erg s-1 for the UV-nebular emission lines of He II1640, C IV1548,1550, and O III]1661,1666. Except for one tentative detection of C IV, we find no strong UV-nebular lines down to the flux limit, placing the upper limits of the rest-frame equivalent widths (EW_0) of ~2-4 A for He II, C IV, and O III] lines. Here we also investigate the VLT/X-SHOOTER spectrum of CR7 whose 6 sigma detection of He II is claimed by Sobral et al. Although two individuals and the ESO-archive service carefully re-analyze the X-SHOOTER data that are used in the study of Sobral et al., no He II signal of CR7 is detected, supportive of weak UV-nebular lines of the bright LAEs even for CR7. Spectral properties of these bright LAEs are thus clearly different from those of faint dropouts at z~7 that have strong UV-nebular lines shown in the various studies. Comparing these bright LAEs and the faint dropouts, we find anti-correlations between the UV-nebular line EW_0 and UV-continuum luminosity, which are similar to those found at z~2-3., Comment: 26 pages, 12 figures. We present an unprecedentedly large catalog consisting of 2,230 > L* Lya emitters (LAEs) at z=5.7 and 6.6 on the 13.8 and 21.2 deg2 sky, respectively, that are identified by the SILVERRUSH program with the first narrowband imaging data of the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) survey. We confirm that the LAE catalog is reliable on the basis of 96 LAEs whose spectroscopic redshifts are already determined by this program and the previous studies. This catalogue is also available on-line. Based on this catalogue, we derive the rest-frame Lya equivalent-width distributions of LAEs at z~5.7-6.6 that are reasonably explained by the exponential profiles with the scale lengths of ~120-170A, showing no significant evolution from z~5.7 to z~6.6. We find that 275 LAEs with a large equivalent width (LEW) of >240A are candidates of young-metal poor galaxies and AGNs. We also find that the fraction of LEW LAEs to all ones is 4% and 21% at z~5.7 and z~6.6, respectively. Our LAE catalog includes 11 Lya blobs (LABs) that are LAEs with spatially extended Lya emission whose profile is clearly distinguished from those of stellar objects at the >~ 3sigma level. The number density of the LABs at z=6-7 is ~ 10^-7-10^-6 Mpc^-3, being ~ 10-100 times lower than those claimed for LABs at z~ 2-3, suggestive of disappearing LABs at z>~6, albeit with the different selection methods and criteria for the low and high-z LABs., Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures. We present the SILVERRUSH program strategy and clustering properties investigated with $\sim 2,000$ Ly$\alpha$ emitters at $z=5.7$ and $6.6$ found in the early data of the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) Subaru Strategic Program survey exploiting the carefully designed narrowband filters. We derive angular correlation functions with the unprecedentedly large samples of LAEs at $z=6-7$ over the large total area of $14-21$ deg$^2$ corresponding to $0.3-0.5$ comoving Gpc$^2$. We obtain the average large-scale bias values of $b_{\rm avg}=4.1\pm 0.2$ ($4.5\pm 0.6$) at $z=5.7$ ($z=6.6$) for $\gtrsim L^*$ LAEs, indicating the weak evolution of LAE clustering from $z=5.7$ to $6.6$. We compare the LAE clustering results with two independent theoretical models that suggest an increase of an LAE clustering signal by the patchy ionized bubbles at the epoch of reionization (EoR), and estimate the neutral hydrogen fraction to be $x_{\rm HI}=0.15^{+0.15}_{-0.15}$ at $z=6.6$. Based on the halo occupation distribution models, we find that the $\gtrsim L^*$ LAEs are hosted by the dark-matter halos with the average mass of $\log (\left < M_{\rm h} \right >/M_\odot) =11.1^{+0.2}_{-0.4}$ ($10.8^{+0.3}_{-0.5}$) at $z=5.7$ ($6.6$) with a Ly$\alpha$ duty cycle of 1 % or less, where the results of $z=6.6$ LAEs may be slightly biased, due to the increase of the clustering signal at the EoR. Our clustering analysis reveals the low-mass nature of $\gtrsim L^*$ LAEs at $z=6-7$, and that these LAEs probably evolve into massive super-$L^*$ galaxies in the present-day universe., Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures. In order to investigate the physical relationship between strong Ly-alpha absorbers (logN_HI>20.0 cm^-2) such as damped Ly-alpha absorption systems (DLAs) and young star-forming galaxies at high redshift, we have conducted narrow-band observations of Ly-alpha emitters (LAEs) in a concentrated region of strong Ly-alpha absorbers at z= 2.3, the J1230+34 field. Using a catalog of Ly-alpha absorbers with logN_HI>20.0 cm^-2 based on the baryon oscillation spectroscopic survey (BOSS), we found 6 fields where 3 or more absorbers are concentrated within a (50 Mpc)^3 cubic box in the comoving scale. Among them, we focus on the J1230+34 field, where 2 DLAs and 2 sub-DLAs present. Our narrow-band imaging observations with Subaru/Suprime-Cam using a custom-made filter, NB400 (lambda_c=4003 A and FWHM=92 A) yield a sample of 149 LAEs in this field. In the large scale (~50 Mpc), we have found no differences between the obtained Ly-alpha luminosity function and those in the blank fields at similar redshifts. We also compare the frequency distribution of the Ly-alpha rest-frame equivalent width (EW_0) in the target field and other fields including both overdensity region and blank field, but find no differences. On the other hand, in the small scale (~10 Mpc), we have found a possible overdensity of LAEs around a DLA with the highest HI column density (N_HI=21.08 cm^-2) in the target field while there are no density excess around the other absorbers with a lower N_HI., Comment: 15 pages, 15 figures, Accepted for publication to PASJ
