Abstract

Thermal point clouds integrate thermal radiation and laser point clouds effectively. However, the semantic information for the interpretation of building thermal point clouds can hardly be precisely inferred. Transferring the semantics encapsulated in 3D building models at LoD3 has a potential to fill this gap. In this work, we propose a workflow enriching thermal point clouds with the geo-position and semantics of LoD3 building models, which utilizes features of both modalities: The proposed method can automatically co-register the point clouds from different sources and enrich the thermal point cloud in facade-detailed semantics. Abstract

This study focuses on the integration of System Dynamics (SD), Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, and 3D Urban Information Modeling (CityGML) in the field of urban planning. It aims to optimize urban layout to cope with rapid urban growth, emphasizing resource allocation through a combination of greedy strategies and AI methods. The core contribution of this paper is to provide spatial allocation of feedback from simulation techniques i.e. SD using the application of genetic algorithms (GA) based on a greedy strategy. The methodology was implemented using a fictitious case study in Berlin, where new students' dorms are required according to the growth in the number of students. The SD tool is used to simulate the growth over 5 years and determine the number of new dorms required. A genetic algorithm is used to optimize the planning objectives of allocating 16 new dorms in 186 possible locations. The algorithm effectively handles the feedback from SD and applies complex multi-objective optimization problems, addressing the challenge of accommodating a growing student population. It proposes strategic dormitory allocations that balance factors such as cost efficiency, campus accessibility, and proximity to public transportation systems. We use CityGML data to simulate and predict future urban transformation, providing dynamic and realistic representations for urban planning decisions and updating the original city models. 15. CityGML 3.0: New Functions Open Up New Applications

Abstract

The development of the next major version 3.0 of the international OGC standard CityGML is nearing its end. CityGML 3.0 will come up with a variety of new features and revisions of existing modules that will increase the usability of CityGML for more user groups and areas of application. This includes a new space concept, a revised level-of-detail (LOD) concept, the representation of time-dependent properties, the possibility to manage multiple versions of cities, the representation of city objects by point clouds, an improved modelling of constructions, the representation of building units and storeys, an improved representation of traffic infrastructure as well as a clear separation of the conceptual model and the data encodings that allow for providing further encoding specifications besides GML. This paper gives an overview of these new and revised concepts, and illustrates their application through selected use cases.

35. Map design aspects, route complexity, or social background? Factors influencing user satisfaction with indoor navigation maps

Abstract

Indoor map design is still an uncharted territory. More often than not, existing architectural floor plans are used as visualization means that do not fulfill cartographic requirements. In collaboration between geoinformation science and sociology, we develop and investigate cartographic methods for effective route guidance in indoor environments. The baseline for our evaluation is the annual user studies with up to 1100 participants per year. Since 2009, they were conducted during the 'Long Night of Sciences,' a big event where large scientific institutions present themselves to the general public. For the 2011 study, we developed eight maps, which varied in design with respect to two map properties: map perspective and landmark representation. We evaluated the map design features as well as route complexity and sociodemographic characteristics. In order to rate their effect on an user satisfaction as an indicator of navigational success, we carried out a series of analyses of variance. Our results underline the importance of a map design: Map perspective and landmarks alone explain about 30% of the variance in the user satisfaction with maps, which is by far the biggest share in a navigational success. Der Runde Tisch GIS e. V. hat im Jahr 2019 im Zuge einer Ausschreibung die Verwendung von Geomassendaten intensiv unterst��tzt, indem Pilotanwender aus verschiedenen Anwendungsbereichen aufgefordert wurden, auf Basis von Daten des Landesamtes f��r Digitalisierung, Breitband und Vermessung (LDBV) in Bayern m��gliche Anwendungsszenarien zu skizzieren und darauf aufbauend im Rahmen einer einj��hrigen Projektarbeit zu untersuchen. In diesem Beitrag wird das Projekt ���Solarpotenzialanalyse und Web-Visualisierung von 3D-Geomassendaten am Beispiel der Stadtregion M��nchen��� vorgestellt. Im Ergebnis wurde eine automatisierte GIS-basierte Methodik angewandt und getestet, die eine realit��tsgetreue Erfassung und ein k��nftiges Monitoring des urbanen Gr��nbestandes erm��glicht. Zudem wurde ein Analysewerkzeug f��r die gro��fl��chige Bestimmung des Solarpotenzials f��r D��cher und Fassaden auf Basis von semantischen 3D-Stadtmodellen eingesetzt. Durch wiederkehrende Anwendung dieses Analysewerkzeuges k��nnen simulierte Testrechnungen aufgebaut werden, um M��glichkeiten der Zielerreichung hin zu einem klimaneutralen Energiesystem zu ��berpr��fen. Die Ergebnisse der Gr��nmodellierung und der Solarpotenzialanalyse werden in einem browser-basierten 3D-Webclient visualisiert und k��nnen damit auch interaktiv betrachtet und ausgewertet werden.

Abstract

Information mined from building information models as well as associated geographical data and Geographic Information System (GIS) analyses can increase the success of construction processes and asset management, including buildings, roads, and public facilities. The integration of information from both domains requires high expertise in both spheres. The existing B.Sc and M.Sc. programs linked to the built environment at the Technical University of Munich offer courses for the Building Information Model (BIM) and GIS that are distributed among study programs in Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Geomatics. Students graduating as professionals in one of these domains rarely know how to solve pre-defined technical problems associated with the integration of information from BIM and GIS. Students in such programs seldom practice skills needed for the integration of information from BIM and GIS at a level that is needed in working life. Conversely, the technologies in both domains create artificial boundaries that do not exist in reality&mdash, for example, water and electricity would not be of use if the utilities terminated in front of buildings. To bring a change and bridge the gap between BIM and GIS, a change in the teaching methods of BIM/GIS needs to be considered. The Technical University of Munich (TUM) has developed a master&rsquo, s course (M.Sc. course) for students in Geoinformatics which focuses on competencies required to achieve BIM/GIS integration. This paper describes the course development process and provides a unique perspective on the curriculum and subjects. It also presents the course objective, course development, the selection and development of learning materials, and the assessment of the intended learning outcome of the course. The developed course is validated through a questionnaire, and feedback is provided by participants of the BIM/GIS integration workshop representing a panel of experts in the domain.

Abstract

Im Forschungsprojekt 3D-DLM, an dem sowohl der Runde Tisch GIS e. V. (in Zusammenarbeit mit der TU München und der Firma M.O.S.S. Computer Grafik Systeme GmbH als Projektbearbeiter), als auch die Länder Bayern und Baden-Württemberg beteiligt sind, erfolgt in der Demonstrationsphase der prototypische Aufbau eines konsistenten 3D Digitalen Landschaftsmodells für ein Testgebiet mit relevanter Größe. Dabei werden die in der Konzeptionsphase (MARX et al. 2017) festgelegten Objektklassen auf das DGM in LoD1 modelliert und um die amtlichen 3D-Gebäudemodelle ergänzt. Der Beitrag zeigt die notwendigen Schritte bis zur Modellierung eines 3D Digitalen Landschaftsmodells mittels des Open Source Tools „3Dfier“3; dabei wird sowohl auf die notwendige Vorverarbeitung der Daten eingegangen, als auch auf die anschließende Abbildung auf das CityGML-Datenmodell. Das Ergebnis wird einer Qualitätsbewertung unterzogen.
