TJ-II stellarator by HIBP diagnostics has been performed. The following similar features of potential were found: the scale of several hundred Volts; the negative sign for densities ne>1×10¹⁹ m⁻³ and comparable values in spite of the different heating methods. When ne or tE rises, the potential evolves to negative values. During ECR heating and associated Te rise, tE degrades and the potential evolves to positive direction. Oscillations of potential and density in the range of Geodesic Acoustic Modes in T-10 and Alfvén Eigenmodes in TJ-II were observed. На токамаці Т-10 і стелараторі TJ-II за допомогою пучка важких іонів в порівняних режимах досліджувалася поведінка потенціалу та його флуктуацій. Виявлені спільні властивості потенціалу: масштаб близько сотен вольт;негативний знак при щільності ne>1×10¹⁹ m⁻³ і порівнянні значення, незважаючи на різні методи нагріву. Коли n_е або t_Е зростають, потенціал зростае у негативну область. При ЕЦР-нагріві і відповідному рості Te, t_Е погіршується, і потенціал змінюється у позитивний бік. Спостерігається коливання потенціалу в діапазоні геодезичних акустичних мод у Т-10 та альфвеновських власних мод у TJ-II На токамаке Т-10 и стеллараторе TJ-II с помощью пучка тяжелых ионов в сравнимых режимах исследовалось поведение потенциала и его флуктуаций. Обнаружены общие свойства потенциала: масштаб порядка сотен вольт; отрицательный знак при плотностях n_е>1×10¹⁹ m⁻³ и сравнимые значения, несмотря на разные методы нагрева. Когда n_е или t_Е растут, потенциал растет в отрицательную область. При ЭЦР-нагреве и соответствующем росте Te, t_Е ухудшается, и потенциал меняется в положительную сторону. Наблюдались колебания потенциала в диапазоне геодезических акустических мод в Т-10 и альфвеновских собственных мод в TJ-II

Features of heavy ion beam probe application to stellarator-like devices have been connected with specific stellarator characteristics: zero (negligible) plasma current, relatively high poloidal and stray magnetic fields, toroidal asymmetry of magnetic surfaces and various operational regimes connected with different magnetic configurations. This paper shows how to decrease the errors in HIBP measurements due to these disadvantages. Absence of the plasma current in stellaratorlike devices gives possibility to make secondary ion beam energy analyzer calibration in situ in each plasma shot. This advantage improves accuracy of plasma potential measurements by HIBP diagnostic on TJ-II stellarator. Можливості застосування діагностики плазми за допомогою пучка важких іонів у пристроях стеллараторного типу зв’язанізі специфічними характеристиками стеллараторів: практично нульовий струм плазми, відносно високізначення полоідальних і розсіяних магнітних полів, тороідальна асиметрія магнітних поверхонь; і різними режимами роботи з різними магнітними конфігураціями. Показано, як можна знизити рівень похибок НІВР вимірювань, зв’язаних з цими несприятливими умовами. Відсутність струму плазми у пристроях стеллараторного типу дає можливість проводити калібровку аналізатора енергій вторинного пучка іонів у кожному плазмовому розряді. Це дозволяє збільшити точність вимірювань потенціалу плазми за допомогою пучка важких іонів на стеллараторі TJ-II. Возможности применения диагностики плазмы с помощью пучка тяжелых ионов в установках стеллараторного типа связаны со специфическими характеристиками стеллараторов: практически нулевой ток плазмы, относительно высокие значения полоидальных и рассеянных магнитных полей, тороидальная ассиметрия магнитных поверхностей; и различными режимами работы с разными магнитными конфигурациями. Показано, как можно снизить уровень ошибок HIBP измерений, вызванных этими неблагоприятными условиями. Отсутствие тока плазмы в установках стеллаторного типа дает возможность проводить калибровку анализатора энергий вторичного пучка ионов непосредственно в каждом плазменном разряде. Это позволяет увеличить точность измерения потенциала плазмы с помощью пучка тяжелых ионов на стеллараторе TJ-II.

The Heavy Ion Beam Probe (HIBP) diagnostic is known as a unique tool for the direct plasma electric potential measurements. It gives also information on plasma density, temperature and current profile. The method is based on the injection of single charged ion beam into the plasma and the registration of the double charged particles born due to collisions with the plasma electrons. The area of the ionization in plasma is the sample volume of the plasma potential measurements. The position and the size of the sample volume are determined by the calculation of the trajectories of the probing particles. Three schemes have been analysed: Cs⁺, Tl⁺ ion and neutral injection for TCABR parameters: B0 = 1.5 T, Ipl = 135 kA. The calculations show that ion probing allows getting radial profiles of TCABR plasma parameters with the injection angle fast scan system. In all cases of ion beam injection we must use a curved beam line for ion beam transportation from last steering plates towards upper port. The primary ion beam injector must be situated out of high magnetic field area and its length is about 1.5m. The energy range (less than 100 keV for Cs⁺, or Tl⁺) allows using compact and cheap ion gun equipmen Система зондування плазми пучком важких іонів відома як унікальний інструмент для прямих вимірювань потенціалу плазми. Вона також дозволяє одержувати інформацію про густину плазми, температуру і профіль току. Метод заснований на інжекції пучка однозарядних іонів у плазму та реєстрації двозарядних часток, утворених у результаті зіткнень з електронами плазми. Область іонізації у плазмі визначає елементарний об’єм, у якому здійснюється вимірювання потенціалу плазми. Положення і розмір елементарного об’єму визначається за допомогою розрахунків траєкторій зондуючих часток. Проаналізовано три варіанти: інжекція іонів Cs⁺, Tl⁺ та нейтральних атомів для параметрів TCABR: B0 = 1.5 T, Ipl = 135 кA. Розрахунки показують можливість одержання профілів параметрів плазми TCABR за допомогою системи швидкого сканування по кутам інжекції іонного пучка. У всіх випадках інжекції іонного пучка необхідно застосування вигнутого іонопроводу для транспортування іонного пучка від вихідних відхиляючих пластин до порту токамака. Інжектор первинного іонного пучка повинен бути розташований поза областю сильного магнітного поля , а його довжина буде біля 1,5 м. Енергія іонного пучка (біля 100 кеВ для Cs⁺ або Tl⁺) дозволяє застосувати компактний и дешевий іонний інжектор. Система зондирования плазмы пучком тяжелых ионов известна как уникальный инструмент для прямых измерений потенциала плазмы. Она так же позволяет получать информацию о плотности плазмы, температуре и профиле тока. Метод основан на инжекции пучка однозарядных ионов в плазму и регистрации двухзарядных частиц, образующихся в результате столкновений с электронами плазмы. Расчеты показывают возможность получения профилей параметров плазмы TCABR с помощью системы быстрого сканирования по углу инжекции ионного пучка. Magnetic confinement - Abstract
Transport properties of TJ-II are explored performing perturbative experiments and taking advantage of TJ-II flexibility. Rotational transform can be varied in a wide range, which allows one to introduce low order rationals and to study their effect on transport. On the other hand, confinement properties can be studied at very different rotational transform values and for different values of magnetic shear: Experiments on influence of the magnetic shear on confinement are reported. In these cases a Ohmic current has been induced in TJ-II plasma to modify magnetic shear and to evaluate itsd effect on confinement, showing that negative shear improves the confinement. Heat transport is also reduced by locating a low order rational near the power deposition profile. Plasma potential profiles have been recently measured in some configurations up to the plasma core with the Heavy Ion Beam Probe (HIBP) diagnostic and the electric field values measured in low-density plasmas are consistent with neoclassical calculations near the plasma core. Plasma edge turbulent transport has been studied in configurations that are marginally stable due to decreased magnetic well. Results show a dynamical coupling between gradients and turbulent transport. Finally, cold pulse propagation has been studied showing ballistic non diffusive propagation.
