[Display omitted] The effect of various types of electrolytes on the operation of coordination polymers based on NiII or CuII in lithium-ion batteries has been examined. Cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic cycling and quantum chemical modeling have been used to study the processes of lithiation and delithiation. It was shown that the use of a new electrolyte based on a mixture of 1 M LiN(CF 3 SO 2) 2 in 1,3-dioxolane–1,2-dimethoxyethane and 1 M LiPF 6 in ethylene carbonate–dimethyl carbonate improved battery performance, while cycling in the range of 0.2–2.5 V increased the discharge capacity up to 177–188 mA h g−1 and stabilized the charge–discharge processes. We report the synthesis of Ni(II) and Cu(II) coordination polymers with rubeanic acid ligands and their application as electrode materials in lithium and potassium batteries. Both designed polymers delivered specific discharge capacity of ∼100–106 mAh g−1 and demonstrate stable charge-discharge cycling at 1 A g−1 for at least 300 cycles. Furthermore, Ni-based coordination polymer showed decent performance in potassium batteries providing the specific discharge capacity of 138 mAh g−1 after 400 cycles at 0.5 A g−1. A set of novel Y-shaped asymmetrical pyrimidines has been prepared on the basis of 2-hydroxy-4,6- dimethylpyrimidine used as a starting compound. All of them are the chromophores of D-π-A-π-D' motif where A is a central pyrimidine core; D, D' are the thiophene-2-yl, thiophene-3-yl, 9-ethyl-9H-carbazol-3-yl or 9H-carbazole-9-yl- fragments and a π-bridge is a vinyl or styryl moiety. We have studied their optical, electrochemical and electrophysical characteristics, as well as their polymerizability with the help of electrochemical oxidation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Graphical abstract A series of novel Y-shaped dyes bearing the D–π–A–π–D fragment comprising central 2-alkoxy-or 2-alkylthio-substituted pyrimidine core and terminal 2-(1-methyl-1 H -pyrrol-2-yl)vinyl moieties have been synthesized and studied as potential materials for the organic electronics. The obtained compounds demonstrated an efficient absorption at ∼410 nm with the high molar absorption coefficient (29790–40620 dm3 mol−1 cm−1) and fluorescence emission at ∼480 nm (Φ F ∼ 7.5–8.6%). [Figure not available: see fulltext.] We report the synthesis of new 4,6-distyrylpyrimidines containing an unsubstituted carbazole ring linked with the pyrimidine moiety by a flexible aliphatic seven-membered -O(CH)- or -S(CH)- bridge. The electrochemical and spectral properties of the synthesized compounds were studied; optical band gaps were calculated from the relevant UV absorption onsets and were found to be equal to 2.55 and 2.54 eV, respectively. A thin film based on the derivative with sulfur-containing bridge (-S(CH)-) was deposited on a conductive material and demonstrated to have a smooth surface and hole conductivity. A series of four new oligomeric derivatives of NFA , NFA(S) , NFA(Se) and NFA(N) with terminal perylene diimide groups modified with heteroatoms of S, Se, and N, were successfully synthesized and fully characterized by a variety of physicochemical methods. Due to deep LUMO levels, all compounds have an electron-acceptor character, which allows them to perform as electron transport compounds in perovskite solar cells of p-i-n architecture. The highest efficiency of 17.23 % was delivered by the solar cells with NFA(Se) electron transporting layer. The first molecular conductors based on bis(1,3-propylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene and transition metal bis(dicarbollides) (BPDT-TTF)[3,3′-Сr(1,2-C 2 B 9 H 11 ) 2 ] ( 1 ) and (BPDT-TTF)[3,3′-Сo(1,2-C 2 B 9 H 11 ) 2 ] ( 2 ) were synthesized and their crystal structures were determined by X-ray analysis.
