Abstract

Mn5Ge3 is a ferromagnetic hexagonal crystal promising for spintronics and magnetocalorics. A systematic study and analysis of the magnetic properties of the Mn5Ge3 thin film grown on Si(111) were performed. The magnetic anisotropy of the film is determined by the shape anisotropy and the easy magnetization axis aligned along the c axis of the crystal. The uniaxial anisotropy constant Ku fully corresponds to that for a bulk single crystal, which indicates that c axis coincides with film normal. Mn5Ge3 film demonstrates high saturation magnetization MS = 900 emu/cm3 (900 kA/m) at T = 100 K and magnetocaloric effect ΔS = 3.16 ± 0.22 J kg−1 K−1 at 300 K and B = 1.5 T. ΔS is comparable to that for multicomponent or Gd rare earth films. Furthermore, a different anisotropy of the magnetocaloric effect compared to bulk Mn5Ge3 was found, which may be related to the anisotropy of the film shape and, possibly, to the domain structure. The results obtained are promising for the design and development of magnetocaloric, spintronic, and spin-caloritronic devices on a silicon platform. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

18. Ferromagnetic resonance in a microtube.

Abstract

Ferromagnetic resonance fields in a microtube with various ratios of the inner and outer diameter of the tube β were studied using micromagnetic simulation. For β < 0.15 , the resonance field agrees with the prediction of the Kittel equation for an infinite ferromagnetic cylinder for both parallel and perpendicular orientation of the applied field to its axis. For β > --> 0.15 , the resonance field increases from the resonance field of the infinite cylinder and approaches the level of a film magnetized along the plane. This behavior only qualitatively agrees with the prediction made using the calculated demagnetizing factor in the ferromagnetic tube. For β > --> 0.15 and the applied transverse field, a number of resonance peaks were observed for the microtube with the outer diameter of 500 nm, but for nanotubes with the diameters of 50 and 100 nm, a single peak was observed. 28. Local magnetic anisotropy in nanostructured FeCo-C coatings synthesized by green chemistry methods

Abstract

Fe-Co alloys attracting interest due to their high magnetic induction and Curie temperature, were synthesized by an eco friendly electroless deposition with carbohydrates as reducing agents. It was shown that Fe1-xCox-C composite coatings retain high induction, while demonstrating an unusual behavior of magnetization at low temperatures. It was found that for each coating measured at different temperatures, there is a correlation between the local magnetic anisotropy constant K at a given temperature and the correlation radius of the local easy magnetization axis Rc. The functional type of this correlation is typical for nanoparticles or nanogranules in a composite, which made it possible to estimate the volume and surface magnetic anisotropy constants of metal granules of FeCo-C coatings. Abstract

Magnetic microspheres with nonmagnetic acrylic glass core were fabricated using electroless deposition. There are favorable conditions for magnetic flux closure within each particle. As a result, the dipole-dipole interaction in the powder of such microspheres is reduced drastically. This is the key difference between powders of magnetic microspheres and powders of full magnetic spherical particles witch behavior is significantly affected by the dipole-dipole interaction. The magnetic hysteresis in the cobalt microspheres with nonmagnetic core is significantly large then in the full cobalt particles produced using the same technique.
