21. Natural course of acute COVID‐19 among healthy children in a tertiary hospital.

Abstract

Background: Previous studies have reported the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of children with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) in a cross‐sectional fashion; however, the natural course of each symptom based on a daily basis during the acute phase has not yet been clarified. This retrospective study aimed to describe the natural course of COVID‐19 in children according to dominant variants. Methods: We conducted our study on symptomatic children with COVID‐19 who were hospitalized at the National Center for Child Health and Development, in Japan. We excluded patients who were observed for less than 9 days and those with underlying disease, COVID‐19 vaccination, coinfection, complications, or therapeutic intervention. We collected the data on each participant's age at admission, sex, medical history, observation period, hospitalization period, SARS‐CoV‐2 test results, and 10 daily symptoms in the first 9 days from the illness onset. Results: Eventually, 115 children were included in this study. The prevalence of fever during the omicron era declined more rapidly over time than that during the pre‐omicron era. The prevalence of cough and rhinorrhea did not decline during the observation period, and these clinical manifestations were more common during the pre‐omicron era at any point. The prevalence of dysgeusia and/or dysosmia steadily increased over time in the pre‐omicron era. This study demonstrated that the prevalence of some symptoms differed not only at the onset but also over time during the acute phase. Conclusion: Details of the natural clinical course of children with COVID‐19 help primary care physicians to manage these patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We report a combination of N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF)‐protected Fe2O3 nanoparticles (NPs) and Pt NPs for the hydrosilylation of various industrially relevant alkenes and tertiary silanes. The DMF‐protected Fe2O3 and Pt NPs catalysts were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X‐ray absorption spectroscopy, and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The catalyst of DMF‐protected Fe2O3 NPs combined with Pt NPs can be recycled for five cycles by a simple extraction using hexane/DMF. The developed combination Fe2O3/Pt NPs catalyst is effective up to the 1‐kilogram scale. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We feel as if a fake body is our own body by synchronicity between the fake body and the actual body (illusory body ownership) even if the body has a different shape. In our previous study, we showed that illusory body ownership can be induced to an invisible body through the synchronous movement of just the hands and feet. In this study, we investigated whether illusory body ownership can be induced to the invisible body even when the arm length of the invisible body was different from the usual body. We modified the length of arm of a full body avatar or changed the position of the hand of the invisible body stimulus, and found that the illusory body ownership was induced to the transformed body by synchronous movement. 50. Magnesium-Based Materials for Hydrogen Storage : Microstructural Properties

Abstract

Magnesium (Mg) is hydrogenated as core-shell-type hydride. Therefore, increase of absorption capacity to the theoretical hydrogen capacity is still one of the most important issues for the hydrogen storage materials. In this study, the procedure of the core-shell structure as well as effect of Al concentration in Mg on the growth MgH2 in Mg were investigated. MgH2 was formed on the surface as well as inside of unreacted Mg core. The inside MgH2 was formed in a granular form on Mg grain boundary and its size increased by applying plastic deformation. Thickness of the surface MgH2 and size of the internal MgH2 increased with an increase in hydrogenation time until the hydride surface was completely covered with MgH2. However, the growth of the surface and internal MgH2 came to a halt after the surface was covered with MgH2. From these results, supplying H from metal side was dominantly contributed for growth of the surface and internal MgH2 because diffusion rate of H in Mg was much higher than that in MgH2. In addition, the growth of internal MgH2 as well as control of surface MgH2 can contribute to the promotion of the complete hydrogenation of Mg-based hydrogen storage materials.
