Abstract: Asian Americans as a group are overrepresented among STEM college graduates and have the highest average college enrollment rate of any racial or ethnic category. Thus, Asian Americans are typically excluded from educational interventions directed at improving STEM education for Students of Color because they are not considered to be underrepresented minorities. However, statistics obscure the individual needs of the more than 20 ethnic subgroups that fall under the umbrella term Asian Americans. Using a participatory action research approach, this paper documents the institutional and sociocultural factors that push out HMoob (or Hmong) American college students from STEM programs at one large, predominantly White university; and the coordinate processes of gatekeeping and transactional advising that either redirect those students toward non-STEM programs or force them out of the university completely.

2. Optimized Cryo-CMOS Technology with VTH<0.2V and Ion>1.2mA/um for High-Peformance Computing

Abstract: We report the design-technology co-optimization (DTCO) scheme to develop a 28-nm cryogenic CMOS (Cryo-CMOS) technology for high-performance computing (HPC). The precise adjustment of halo implants manages to compensate the threshold voltage (VTH) shift at low temperatures. The optimized NMOS and PMOS transistors, featured by VTH<0.2V, sub-threshold swing (SS)<30 mV/dec, and on-state current (Ion)>1.2mA/um at 77K, warrant a reliable sub-0.6V operation. Moreover, the enhanced driving strength of Cryo-CMOS inherited from a higher transconductance leads to marked improvements in elevating the ring oscillator frequency by 20%, while reducing the power consumption of the compute-intensive cryogenic IC system by 37% at 77K.

3. New Lagrangian dual algorithms for solving the continuous nonlinear resource allocation problem

Abstract: The continuous nonlinear resource allocation problem has broad applications in various fields such as information and communication, transportation, and finance, and this problem often arises as a subproblem in complex programming. Traditional algorithms, however, typically impose monotonicity assumptions, which limits their applicability. In this paper, we propose two novel Lagrangian dual algorithms that solve this problem without such assumptions. By leveraging the problem's convexity, we update the Lagrange multiplier at each iteration based on the current values of the objective and constraint functions. Additionally, we exploit the separability of the problem, allowing the Lagrangian dual problem to be decomposed into n one-dimensional tractable subproblems, significantly enhancing computational efficiency. We also provide a convergence analysis for the proposed algorithms. Extensive numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithms consistently achieve optimal solutions and significantly enhance computational efficiency, outperforming existing state-of-the-art methods by at least two orders of magnitude in most test problems, particularly in non-quadratic programming problems.

4. Toward Robust Incomplete Multimodal Sentiment Analysis via Hierarchical Representation Learning

Abstract: Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA) is an important research area that aims to understand and recognize human sentiment through multiple modalities. The complementary information provided by multimodal fusion promotes better sentiment analysis compared to utilizing only a single modality. Nevertheless, in real-world applications, many unavoidable factors may lead to situations of uncertain modality missing, thus hindering the effectiveness of multimodal modeling and degrading the model's performance. To this end, we propose a Hierarchical Representation Learning Framework (HRLF) for the MSA task under uncertain missing modalities. Specifically, we propose a fine-grained representation factorization module that sufficiently extracts valuable sentiment information by factorizing modality into sentiment-relevant and modality-specific representations through crossmodal translation and sentiment semantic reconstruction. Moreover, a hierarchical mutual information maximization mechanism is introduced to incrementally maximize the mutual information between multi-scale representations to align and reconstruct the high-level semantics in the representations. Ultimately, we propose a hierarchical adversarial learning mechanism that further aligns and adapts the latent distribution of sentiment-relevant representations to produce robust joint multimodal representations. 5. An exact column generation algorithm for load balancing in capacity sharing networks

Abstract: Capacity sharing networks are typical heterogeneous communication networks widely applied in information and communications technology (ICT) field. In such networks, resources like bandwidth, spectrum, computation and storage are shared among various communication services. Meanwhile, the issue of network congestion is always a prominent challenge. To handle network congestion essentially needs to solve the load balancing of networks. In this paper, for capacity sharing networks, we formulate their load balancing problem as a maximum multi-commodity flow problem. For such a problem, always a large-scale linear programming, the column generation algorithm is a commonly used and crucial method to solve it. In each iteration, this algorithm involves solving a linear programming subproblem and determining whether to terminate or generate a new column for inclusion in the subproblem. This iterative procedure of solving and checking continues throughout the algorithm. Nevertheless, since the checking subproblem is NP-hard, its solution significantly impacts the overall efficiency of the algorithm. In this paper, we innovatively convert the checking subproblem into a single-constrained shortest path (SCSP) subproblem. By exactly solving the SCSP subproblem, we can obtain the optimal solution to the checking subproblem with same or less computing time. Experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm achieves computational efficiency comparable to heuristic algorithms while outperforming other state-of-the-art algorithms by at least an order of magnitude.

Abstract: We present the results of a search for gravitational-wave transients associated with core-collapse supernova SN 2023ixf, which was observed in the galaxy Messier 101 via optical emission on 2023 May 19th, during the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA 15th Engineering Run. We define a five-day on-source window during which an accompanying gravitational-wave signal may have occurred. No gravitational waves have been identified in data when at least two gravitational-wave observatories were operating, which covered $\sim 14\%$ of this five-day window. We report the search detection efficiency for various possible gravitational-wave emission models. Considering the distance to M101 (6.7 Mpc), we derive constraints on the gravitational-wave emission mechanism of core-collapse supernovae across a broad frequency spectrum, ranging from 50 Hz to 2 kHz where we assume the GW emission occurred when coincident data are available in the on-source window. Considering an ellipsoid model for a rotating proto-neutron star, our search is sensitive to gravitational-wave energy $1 \times 10^{-5} M_{\odot} c^2$ and luminosity $4 \times 10^{-5} M_{\odot} c^2/\text{s}$ for a source emitting at 50 Hz. These constraints are around an order of magnitude more stringent than those obtained so far with gravitational-wave data. The constraint on the ellipticity of the proto-neutron star that is formed is as low as $1.04$, at frequencies above $1200$ Hz, surpassing results from SN 2019ejj., Comment: Main paper: 6 pages, 4 figures and 1 table. 7. Testing early physics solutions to the Hubble tension with CMB data

Abstract: One approach to reconciling local measurements of a high expansion rate with observations of acoustic oscillations in the CMB and galaxy clustering (the "Hubble tension") is to introduce additional contributions to the $\Lambda$CDM model that are relevant before recombination. While numerous possibilities exist, none are currently well-motivated or preferred by data. However, future CMB experiments, which will measure acoustic peaks to much smaller scales and resolve polarization signals with higher signal-to-noise over large sky areas, should detect almost any such modification at high significance. We propose a model-agnostic method to capture most relevant possible deviations from $\Lambda$CDM due to additional non-interacting components, while remaining sufficiently constraining to enable detection across various scenarios. The phenomenological model uses a fluid model with four parameters governing additional density contributions that peak at different redshifts, and two sound speed parameters. We forecast possible constraints with Simons Observatory, explore parameter degeneracies that arise in $\Lambda$CDM, and demonstrate that this method could detect a range of specific models. Which of the new parameters gets excited can indicate the nature of any new physics, while the generality of the model allows for testing with future data in a way that should not be plagued by a posteriori choices or publication bias. When testing our model with Planck data, we find good consistency with the $\Lambda$CDM model, but the data also allows for large Hubble parameter, especially if the sound speed of an additional component is not too different to that of radiation., Comment: 29 pages, 9 figures

8. MENTOR: Mixture-of-Experts Network with Task-Oriented Perturbation for Visual Reinforcement Learning

Abstract: Visual deep reinforcement learning (RL) enables robots to acquire skills from visual input for unstructured tasks. However, current algorithms suffer from low sample efficiency, limiting their practical applicability. In this work, we present MENTOR, a method that improves both the architecture and optimization of RL agents. Specifically, MENTOR replaces the standard multi-layer perceptron (MLP) with a mixture-of-experts (MoE) backbone, enhancing the agent's ability to handle complex tasks by leveraging modular expert learning to avoid gradient conflicts. Furthermore, MENTOR introduces a task-oriented perturbation mechanism, which heuristically samples perturbation candidates containing task-relevant information, leading to more targeted and effective optimization. MENTOR outperforms state-of-the-art methods across three simulation domains -- DeepMind Control Suite, Meta-World, and Adroit. Additionally, MENTOR achieves an average of 83% success rate on three challenging real-world robotic manipulation tasks including peg insertion, cable routing, and tabletop golf, which significantly surpasses the success rate of 32% from the current strongest model-free visual RL algorithm. 9. Towards Better Performance in Incomplete LDL: Addressing Data Imbalance

Abstract: Label Distribution Learning (LDL) is a novel machine learning paradigm that addresses the problem of label ambiguity and has found widespread applications. Obtaining complete label distributions in real-world scenarios is challenging, which has led to the emergence of Incomplete Label Distribution Learning (InLDL). However, the existing InLDL methods overlook a crucial aspect of LDL data: the inherent imbalance in label distributions. To address this limitation, we propose \textbf{Incomplete and Imbalance Label Distribution Learning (I$^2$LDL)}, a framework that simultaneously handles incomplete labels and imbalanced label distributions. Our method decomposes the label distribution matrix into a low-rank component for frequent labels and a sparse component for rare labels, effectively capturing the structure of both head and tail labels. We optimize the model using the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) and derive generalization error bounds via Rademacher complexity, providing strong theoretical guarantees. Extensive experiments on 15 real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of our proposed framework compared to existing InLDL methods.

10. MatryoshkaKV: Adaptive KV Compression via Trainable Orthogonal Projection

Abstract: KV cache has become a de facto technique for the inference of large language models (LLMs), where tensors of shape (layer number, head number, sequence length, feature dimension) are introduced to cache historical information for self-attention. As the size of the model and data grows, the KV cache can quickly become a bottleneck within the system in both storage and memory transfer. To address this, prior studies usually focus on the first three axes of the cache tensors for compression. This paper supplements them, focusing on the feature dimension axis, by utilizing low-rank projection matrices to transform the cache features into spaces with reduced dimensions. We begin by investigating the canonical orthogonal projection method for data compression through principal component analysis (PCA). We observe the issue with PCA projection where significant performance degradation is observed at low compression rates. To bridge the gap, we propose to directly tune the orthogonal projection matrices with a distillation objective using an elaborate Matryoshka training strategy. After training, we adaptively search for the optimal compression rates for various layers and heads given varying compression budgets. Compared to previous works, our method can easily embrace pre-trained LLMs and hold a smooth tradeoff between performance and compression rate. We empirically witness the high data efficiency of our training procedure and find that our method can sustain over 90% performance with an average KV cache compression rate of 60% (and up to 75% in certain extreme scenarios) for popular LLMs like LLaMA2-7B-base and Mistral-7B-v0.3-base.

11. WPFed: Web-based Personalized Federation for Decentralized Systems

Abstract: Decentralized learning has become crucial for collaborative model training in environments where data privacy and trust are paramount. In web-based applications, clients are liberated from traditional fixed network topologies, enabling the establishment of arbitrary peer-to-peer (P2P) connections. While this flexibility is highly promising, it introduces a fundamental challenge: the optimal selection of neighbors to ensure effective collaboration. To address this, we introduce WPFed, a fully decentralized, web-based learning framework designed to enable globally optimal neighbor selection. WPFed employs a dynamic communication graph and a weighted neighbor selection mechanism. By assessing inter-client similarity through Locality-Sensitive Hashing (LSH) and evaluating model quality based on peer rankings, WPFed enables clients to identify personalized optimal neighbors on a global scale while preserving data privacy. To enhance security and deter malicious behavior, WPFed integrates verification mechanisms for both LSH codes and performance rankings, leveraging blockchain-driven announcements to ensure transparency and verifiability. Through extensive experiments on multiple real-world datasets, we demonstrate that WPFed significantly improves learning outcomes and system robustness compared to traditional federated learning methods. Our findings highlight WPFed's potential to facilitate effective and secure decentralized collaborative learning across diverse and interconnected web environments.

Abstract: We present phase-connected timing ephemerides, polarization pulse profiles and Faraday rotation measurements of 12 pulsars discovered by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) in the Commensal Radio Astronomy FAST Survey (CRAFTS). The observational data for each pulsar span at least one year. Among them, PSR J1840+2843 shows subpulse drifting, and five pulsars are detected to exhibit pulse nulling phenomena. PSR J0640$-$0139 and PSR J2031$-$1254 are isolated MSPs with stable spin-down rates ($\dot{P}$) of $4.8981(6) \times $10$^{-20}$\,s\,s$^{-1}$ and $6.01(2) \times $10$^{-21}$\,s\,s$^{-1}$, respectively. Additionally, one pulsar (PSR J1602$-$0611) is in a neutron star - white dwarf binary system with 18.23-d orbit and a companion of $\leq$ 0.65M$_{\odot}$. PSR J1602$-$0611 has a spin period, companion mass, and orbital eccentricity that are consistent with the theoretical expectations for MSP - Helium white dwarf (He - WD) systems. Therefore, we believe it might be an MSP-He WD binary system. The locations of PSRs J1751$-$0542 and J1840+2843 on the $P-\dot{P}$ diagram are beyond the traditional death line. This indicates that FAST has discovered some low $\dot{E}$ pulsars, contributing new samples for testing pulsar radiation theories. We estimated the distances of these 12 pulsars based on NE2001 and YMW16 electron density models, and our work enhances the dataset for investigating the electron density model of the Galaxy., Comment: 20 pages, 15 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

Abstract: The magnetar SGR 1935+2154 is the only known Galactic source of fast radio bursts (FRBs). FRBs from SGR 1935+2154 were first detected by CHIME/FRB and STARE2 in 2020 April, after the conclusion of the LIGO, Virgo, and KAGRA Collaborations' O3 observing run. Here we analyze four periods of gravitational wave (GW) data from the GEO600 detector coincident with four periods of FRB activity detected by CHIME/FRB, as well as X-ray glitches and X-ray bursts detected by NICER and NuSTAR close to the time of one of the FRBs. We do not detect any significant GW emission from any of the events. Instead, using a short-duration GW search (for bursts $\leq$ 1 s) we derive 50\% (90\%) upper limits of $10^{48}$ ($10^{49}$) erg for GWs at 300 Hz and $10^{49}$ ($10^{50}$) erg at 2 kHz, and constrain the GW-to-radio energy ratio to $\leq 10^{14} - 10^{16}$. We also derive upper limits from a long-duration search for bursts with durations between 1 and 10 s. 14. PINN-MG: A Multigrid-Inspired Hybrid Framework Combining Iterative Method and Physics-Informed Neural Networks

Abstract: Iterative methods are widely used for solving partial differential equations (PDEs). However, the difficulty in eliminating global low-frequency errors significantly limits their convergence speed. In recent years, neural networks have emerged as a novel approach for solving PDEs, with studies revealing that they exhibit faster convergence for low-frequency components. Building on this complementary frequency convergence characteristics of iterative methods and neural networks, we draw inspiration from multigrid methods and propose a hybrid solving framework that combining iterative methods and neural network-based solvers, termed PINN-MG (PMG). In this framework, the iterative method is responsible for eliminating local high-frequency oscillation errors, while Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) are employed to correct global low-frequency errors. Throughout the solving process, high- and low-frequency components alternately dominate the error, with each being addressed by the iterative method and PINNs respectively, thereby accelerating the convergence. We tested the proposed PMG framework on the linear Poisson equation and the nonlinear Helmholtz equation, and the results demonstrated significant acceleration of the PMG when built on Gauss-Seidel, pseudo-time, and GMRES methods. Furthermore, detailed analysis of the convergence process further validates the rationality of the framework. 15. Melody Is All You Need For Music Generation

Abstract: We present the Melody Guided Music Generation (MMGen) model, the first novel approach using melody to guide the music generation that, despite a pretty simple method and extremely limited resources, achieves excellent performance. Specifically, we first align the melody with audio waveforms and their associated descriptions using the multimodal alignment module. Subsequently, we condition the diffusion module on the learned melody representations. This allows MMGen to generate music that matches the style of the provided audio while also producing music that reflects the content of the given text description. To address the scarcity of high-quality data, we construct a multi-modal dataset, MusicSet, which includes melody, text, and audio, and will be made publicly available. 16. HazyDet: Open-source Benchmark for Drone-view Object Detection with Depth-cues in Hazy Scenes

Abstract: Drone-based object detection in adverse weather conditions is crucial for enhancing drones' environmental perception, yet it remains largely unexplored due to the lack of relevant benchmarks. To bridge this gap, we introduce HazyDet, a large-scale dataset tailored for drone-based object detection in hazy scenes. It encompasses 383,000 real-world instances, collected from both naturally hazy environments and normal scenes with synthetically imposed haze effects to simulate adverse weather conditions. By observing the significant variations in object scale and clarity under different depth and haze conditions, we designed a Depth Conditioned Detector (DeCoDet) to incorporate this prior knowledge. DeCoDet features a Multi-scale Depth-aware Detection Head that seamlessly integrates depth perception, with the resulting depth cues harnessed by a dynamic Depth Condition Kernel module. Furthermore, we propose a Scale Invariant Refurbishment Loss to facilitate the learning of robust depth cues from pseudo-labels. Extensive evaluations on the HazyDet dataset demonstrate the flexibility and effectiveness of our method, yielding significant performance improvements. 17. Fast-Convergent and Communication-Alleviated Heterogeneous Hierarchical Federated Learning in Autonomous Driving

Abstract: Street Scene Semantic Understanding (denoted as TriSU) is a complex task for autonomous driving (AD). However, inference model trained from data in a particular geographical region faces poor generalization when applied in other regions due to inter-city data domain-shift. Hierarchical Federated Learning (HFL) offers a potential solution for improving TriSU model generalization by collaborative privacy-preserving training over distributed datasets from different cities. Unfortunately, it suffers from slow convergence because data from different cities are with disparate statistical properties. Going beyond existing HFL methods, we propose a Gaussian heterogeneous HFL algorithm (FedGau) to address inter-city data heterogeneity so that convergence can be accelerated. In the proposed FedGau algorithm, both single RGB image and RGB dataset are modelled as Gaussian distributions for aggregation weight design. This approach not only differentiates each RGB image by respective statistical distribution, but also exploits the statistics of dataset from each city in addition to the conventionally considered data volume. With the proposed approach, the convergence is accelerated by 35.5\%-40.6\% compared to existing state-of-the-art (SOTA) HFL methods. On the other hand, to reduce the involved communication resource, we further introduce a novel performance-aware adaptive resource scheduling (AdapRS) policy. Unlike the traditional static resource scheduling policy that exchanges a fixed number of models between two adjacent aggregations, AdapRS adjusts the number of model aggregation at different levels of HFL so that unnecessary communications are minimized. 19. An Adverse Weather-Immune Scheme with Unfolded Regularization and Foundation Model Knowledge Distillation for Street Scene Understanding

Abstract: Various adverse weather conditions pose a significant challenge to autonomous driving (AD) perception. A common strategy is to minimize the disparity between images captured in clear and adverse weather conditions. However, this technique typically relies on utilizing clear image as a reference, which is challenging to obtain in practice. Furthermore, this method typically targets a single adverse condition and perform poorly when confronting the mixup of multiple adverse weather conditions. To address these issues, we introduce a reference-free and \underline{Adv}erse weather-\underline{Immu}ne scheme (called AdvImmu) achieved by leveraging the invariance of weather conditions over short periods (seconds). Specifically, AdvImmu includes three components: Locally Sequential Mechanism (LSM), Globally Shuffled Mechanism (GSM), and Unfolded Regularizers (URs). LSM leverages temporal correlations between adjacent frames to enhance model performance. GSM is proposed to shuffle LSM segments to prevent the overfitting to temporal patterns of only using LSM. URs are the deep unfolding implementation of two proposed regularizers to penalize the model complexity to enhance across-weather generalization. In addition, to overcome the over-reliance on consecutive frame-wise annotations in the training of AdvImmu (typically unavailable in AD scenarios), we incorporate the Segment Anything Model (SAM) to annotate frames, and additionally propose a cluster algorithm (denoted as SBICAC) to surmount SAM's category-agnostic issue to generate pseudo-labels. Abstract: Optical motion capture (MoCap) is the "gold standard" for accurately capturing full-body motions. To make use of raw MoCap point data, the system labels the points with corresponding body part locations and solves the full-body motions. However, MoCap data often contains mislabeling, occlusion and positional errors, requiring extensive manual correction. To alleviate this burden, we introduce RoMo, a learning-based framework for robustly labeling and solving raw optical motion capture data. In the labeling stage, RoMo employs a divide-and-conquer strategy to break down the complex full-body labeling challenge into manageable subtasks: alignment, full-body segmentation and part-specific labeling. To utilize the temporal continuity of markers, RoMo generates marker tracklets using a K-partite graph-based clustering algorithm, where markers serve as nodes, and edges are formed based on positional and feature similarities. For motion solving, to prevent error accumulation along the kinematic chain, we introduce a hybrid inverse kinematic solver that utilizes joint positions as intermediate representations and adjusts the template skeleton to match estimated joint positions. We demonstrate that RoMo achieves high labeling and solving accuracy across multiple metrics and various datasets. Extensive comparisons show that our method outperforms state-of-the-art research methods. On a real dataset, RoMo improves the F1 score of hand labeling from 0.94 to 0.98, and reduces joint position error of body motion solving by 25%. Furthermore, RoMo can be applied in scenarios where commercial systems are inadequate. Abstract: The non-uniform current distribution arisen from either current crowding effect or hot spot effect provides a method to tailor the interaction between thermal gradient and electron transport in magnetically ordered systems. Here we apply the device structural engineering to realize an in-plane inhomogeneous temperature distribution within the conduction channel, and the resulting geometric anomalous Nernst effect (GANE) gives rise to a non-zero 2nd -harmonic resistance whose polarity corresponds to the out-of-plane magnetization of Co/Pt multi-layer thin film, and its amplitude is linearly proportional to the applied current. By optimizing the aspect ratio of convex-shaped device, the effective temperature gradient can reach up to 0.3 K/$\mu$m along the y-direction, leading to a GANE signal of 28.3 $\mu$V. Moreover, we demonstrate electrical write and read operations in the perpendicularly-magnetized Co/Pt-based spin-orbit torque device with a simple two-terminal structure. Abstract: Despite significant progress in deep learning for financial trading, existing models often face instability and high uncertainty, hindering their practical application. Leveraging advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) and multi-agent architectures, we propose a novel framework for quantitative stock investment in portfolio management and alpha mining. Our framework addresses these issues by integrating LLMs to generate diversified alphas and employing a multi-agent approach to dynamically evaluate market conditions. This paper proposes a framework where large language models (LLMs) mine alpha factors from multimodal financial data, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of market dynamics. The first module extracts predictive signals by integrating numerical data, research papers, and visual charts. The second module uses ensemble learning to construct a diverse pool of trading agents with varying risk preferences, enhancing strategy performance through a broader market analysis. In the third module, a dynamic weight-gating mechanism selects and assigns weights to the most relevant agents based on real-time market conditions, enabling the creation of an adaptive and context-aware composite alpha formula. Extensive experiments on the Chinese stock markets demonstrate that this framework significantly outperforms state-of-the-art baselines across multiple financial metrics. The results underscore the efficacy of combining LLM-generated alphas with a multi-agent architecture to achieve superior trading performance and stability. This work highlights the potential of AI-driven approaches in enhancing quantitative investment strategies and sets a new benchmark for integrating advanced machine learning techniques in financial trading can also be applied on diverse markets.

Abstract: Motion style transfer changes the style of a motion while retaining its content and is useful in computer animations and games. Contact is an essential component of motion style transfer that should be controlled explicitly in order to express the style vividly while enhancing motion naturalness and quality. However, it is unknown how to decouple and control contact to achieve fine-grained control in motion style transfer. In this paper, we present a novel style transfer method for fine-grained control over contacts while achieving both motion naturalness and spatial-temporal variations of style. Based on our empirical evidence, we propose controlling contact indirectly through the hip velocity, which can be further decomposed into the trajectory and contact timing, respectively. To this end, we propose a new model that explicitly models the correlations between motions and trajectory/contact timing/style, allowing us to decouple and control each separately. Our approach is built around a motion manifold, where hip controls can be easily integrated into a Transformer-based decoder. It is versatile in that it can generate motions directly as well as be used as post-processing for existing methods to improve quality and contact controllability. In addition, we propose a new metric that measures a correlation pattern of motions based on our empirical evidence, aligning well with human perception in terms of motion naturalness. Based on extensive evaluation, our method outperforms existing methods in terms of style expressivity and motion quality.

Abstract: In virtual Hand-Object Interaction (HOI) scenarios, the authenticity of the hand's deformation is important to immersive experience, such as natural manipulation or tactile feedback. Unrealistic deformation arises from simplified hand geometry, neglect of the different physics attributes of the hand, and penetration due to imprecise contact handling. To address these problems, we propose PhysHand, a novel hand simulation model, which enhances the realism of deformation in HOI. First, we construct a physiologically plausible geometry, a layered mesh with a "skin-flesh-skeleton" structure. Second, to satisfy the distinct physics features of different soft tissues, a constraint-based dynamics framework is adopted with carefully designed layer-corresponding constraints to maintain flesh attached and skin smooth. Finally, we employ an SDF-based method to eliminate the penetration caused by contacts and enhance its accuracy by introducing a novel multi-resolution querying strategy. Extensive experiments have been conducted to demonstrate the outstanding performance of PhysHand in calculating deformations and handling contacts. Abstract: Diffusion-based voice conversion (VC) techniques such as VoiceGrad have attracted interest because of their high VC performance in terms of speech quality and speaker similarity. However, a notable limitation is the slow inference caused by the multi-step reverse diffusion. Therefore, we propose FastVoiceGrad, a novel one-step diffusion-based VC that reduces the number of iterations from dozens to one while inheriting the high VC performance of the multi-step diffusion-based VC. We obtain the model using adversarial conditional diffusion distillation (ACDD), leveraging the ability of generative adversarial networks and diffusion models while reconsidering the initial states in sampling. Evaluations of one-shot any-to-any VC demonstrate that FastVoiceGrad achieves VC performance superior to or comparable to that of previous multi-step diffusion-based VC while enhancing the inference speed. Abstract: This paper introduces an innovative approach for signal reconstruction using data acquired through multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) sampling. First, we show that it is possible to perfectly reconstruct a set of periodic band-limited signals $\{x_r(t)\}_{r=1}^R$ from the samples of $\{y_m(t)\}_{m=1}^M$, which are the output signals of a MIMO system with inputs $\{x_r(t)\}_{r=1}^R$. Moreover, an FFT-based algorithm is designed to perform the reconstruction efficiently. It is demonstrated that this algorithm encompasses FFT interpolation and multi-channel interpolation as special cases. Then, we investigate the consistency property and the aliasing error of the proposed sampling and reconstruction framework to evaluate its effectiveness in reconstructing non-band-limited signals. The analytical expression for the averaged mean square error (MSE) caused by aliasing is presented. Abstract: The manipulation of Rashba-type spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in molecular beam epitaxy-grown Al$_x$In$_{1-x}$Sb/InSb/CdTe quantum well heterostructures is reported. The effective band bending provides robust two-dimensional quantum confinement, while the unidirectional built-in electric field from the asymmetric hetero-interfaces results in pronounced Rashba SOC strength. By tuning the Al concentration in the top Al$_x$In$_{1-x}$Sb barrier layer, the optimal structure with $x = 0.15$ shows the largest Rashba coefficient of 0.23 eV-Angstrom. and the highest low-temperature electron mobility of 4400 cm$^2$/Vs . Quantitative investigations of the weak anti-localization effect further confirm the dominant D'yakonov-Perel (DP) spin relaxation mechanism during charge-to-spin conversion. These findings highlight the significance of quantum well engineering in shaping magneto-resistance responses, and narrow bandgap semiconductor-based heterostructures may offer a reliable platform for energy-efficient spintronic applications.

Abstract: Vision-based 3D semantic scene completion (SSC) describes autonomous driving scenes through 3D volume representations. However, the occlusion of invisible voxels by scene surfaces poses challenges to current SSC methods in hallucinating refined 3D geometry. This paper proposes HybridOcc, a hybrid 3D volume query proposal method generated by Transformer framework and NeRF representation and refined in a coarse-to-fine SSC prediction framework. HybridOcc aggregates contextual features through the Transformer paradigm based on hybrid query proposals while combining it with NeRF representation to obtain depth supervision. The Transformer branch contains multiple scales and uses spatial cross-attention for 2D to 3D transformation. The newly designed NeRF branch implicitly infers scene occupancy through volume rendering, including visible and invisible voxels, and explicitly captures scene depth rather than generating RGB color. Furthermore, we present an innovative occupancy-aware ray sampling method to orient the SSC task instead of focusing on the scene surface, further improving the overall performance. 32. Beyond Full Label: Single-Point Prompt for Infrared Small Target Label Generation

Abstract: In this work, we make the first attempt to construct a learning-based single-point annotation paradigm for infrared small target label generation (IRSTLG). Our intuition is that label generation requires just one more point prompt than target detection: IRSTLG can be regarded as an infrared small target detection (IRSTD) task with the target location hint. Based on this insight, we introduce an energy double guided single-point prompt (EDGSP) framework, which adeptly transforms the target detection network into a refined label generation method. Specifically, the proposed EDGSP includes: 1) target energy initialization (TEI) to create a foundational outline for sufficient shape evolution of pseudo label, 2) double prompt embedding (DPE) for rapid localization of interested regions and reinforcement of individual differences to avoid label adhesion, and 3) bounding box-based matching (BBM) to eliminate false alarms. Experimental results show that pseudo labels generated by three baselines equipped with EDGSP achieve 100% object-level probability of detection (Pd) and 0% false-alarm rate (Fa) on SIRST, NUDT-SIRST, and IRSTD-1k datasets, with a pixel-level intersection over union (IoU) improvement of 13.28% over state-of-the-art (SOTA) label generation methods. In the practical application of downstream IRSTD, EDGSP realizes, for the first time, a single-point generated pseudo mask beyond the full label. Even with coarse single-point annotations, it still achieves 99.5% performance of full labeling.

Although various methods have been proposed to address this challenge, most of them assume that the underlying global data is uniformly distributed across all clients. This paper investigates data-level heterogeneity federated learning with a brief review and redefines a more practical and challenging setting called Skewed Heterogeneous Federated Learning (SHFL). Accordingly, we propose a novel Federated Prototype Rectification with Personalization which consists of two parts: Federated Personalization and Federated Prototype Rectification. The former aims to construct balanced decision boundaries between dominant and minority classes based on private data, while the latter exploits both inter-class discrimination and intra-class consistency to rectify empirical prototypes. Experiments on three popular benchmarks show that the proposed approach outperforms current state-of-the-art methods and achieves balanced performance in both personalization and generalization.

34. Enhancing Autonomous Vehicle Perception in Adverse Weather through Image Augmentation during Semantic Segmentation Training

Abstract: Robust perception is crucial in autonomous vehicle navigation and localization. Visual processing tasks, like semantic segmentation, should work in varying weather conditions and during different times of day. Semantic segmentation is where each pixel is assigned a class, which is useful for locating overall features (1). Training a segmentation model requires large amounts of data, and the labeling process for segmentation data is especially tedious. Additionally, many large datasets include only images taken in clear weather. This is a problem because training a model exclusively on clear weather data hinders performance in adverse weather conditions like fog or rain. We hypothesize that given a dataset of only clear days images, applying image augmentation (such as random rain, fog, and brightness) during training allows for domain adaptation to diverse weather conditions. We used CARLA, a 3D realistic autonomous vehicle simulator, to collect 1200 images in clear weather composed of 29 classes from 10 different towns (2). We also collected 1200 images of random weather effects. We trained encoder-decoder UNet models to perform semantic segmentation. Applying augmentations significantly improved segmentation under weathered night conditions (p < 0.001). However, models trained on weather data have significantly lower losses than those trained on augmented data in all conditions except for clear days. This shows there is room for improvement in the domain adaptation approach. Future work should test more types of augmentations and also use real-life images instead of CARLA. Ideally, the augmented model meets or exceeds the performance of the weather model.

35. Pareto Front Shape-Agnostic Pareto Set Learning in Multi-Objective Optimization

Abstract: Pareto set learning (PSL) is an emerging approach for acquiring the complete Pareto set of a multi-objective optimization problem. Existing methods primarily rely on the mapping of preference vectors in the objective space to Pareto optimal solutions in the decision space. However, the sampling of preference vectors theoretically requires prior knowledge of the Pareto front shape to ensure high performance of the PSL methods. Designing a sampling strategy of preference vectors is difficult since the Pareto front shape cannot be known in advance. To make Pareto set learning work effectively in any Pareto front shape, we propose a Pareto front shape-agnostic Pareto Set Learning (GPSL) that does not require the prior information about the Pareto front. The fundamental concept behind GPSL is to treat the learning of the Pareto set as a distribution transformation problem. Specifically, GPSL can transform an arbitrary distribution into the Pareto set distribution. We demonstrate that training a neural network by maximizing hypervolume enables the process of distribution transformation. Our proposed method can handle any shape of the Pareto front and learn the Pareto set without requiring prior knowledge. To bridge this gap, we present Decide, a web-based visualization of a knowledge graph that contains 2,376 version knowledge extracted from SO discussions. As an interactive tool, Decide allows users to easily check whether two libraries are compatible and explore compatibility knowledge of certain DL stack components with or without the version specified. 38. Cosmological measurement of the gravitational constant $G$ using the CMB

Abstract: Recent cosmological observations have provided numerous new observations with increasing precision that have led to the era of precision cosmology. The exquisite quality of these observations opens new possibilities towards measuring fundamental constants with good precision and at scales which are complementary to the laboratory ones. In particular, the cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature and polarization spectra contain a wealth quantity of information, well beyond the basic cosmological parameters. In this paper, we update the precision on a cosmological determination of $G$ by using the latest Planck data release (PR4) in combination with the latest baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) data release 1. We demonstrate a precision of $2.1\%$, corresponding to a $\sim25\%$ improvement compared to the literature. This measurement is compatible with laboratory ones within one standard deviation. Abstract: Deconfined quantum critical points (DQCPs) are proposed as unconventional second-order phase transitions beyond the Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson paradigm. The nature and experimental realizations of DQCPs are crucial issues of importance. We illustrate the potential for DQCPs between the valence bond solid state and the antiferromagnetic phase to arise in optical lattices containing frustrated dipolar bosons subject to hard-core constraints. The emergence of DQCPs is comprehended through the fusion of two Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transitions. The DQCPs and the BKTs are confirmed by the finite-size scaling of ground-state fidelity susceptibilities. The numerical analysis reveals varying critical exponents of the correlation length in DQCPs and the logarithmic scaling in BKTs, respectively. Abstract: Stochastic diffusion processes are pervasive in nature, from the seemingly erratic Brownian motion to the complex interactions of synaptically-coupled spiking neurons. Recently, drawing inspiration from Langevin dynamics, neuromorphic diffusion models were proposed and have become one of the major breakthroughs in the field of generative artificial intelligence. Unlike discriminative models that have been well developed to tackle classification or regression tasks, diffusion models as well as other generative models such as ChatGPT aim at creating content based upon contexts learned. However, the more complex algorithms of these models result in high computational costs using today's technologies, creating a bottleneck in their efficiency, and impeding further development. Here, we develop a spintronic voltage-controlled magnetoelectric memory hardware for the neuromorphic diffusion process. The in-memory computing capability of our spintronic devices goes beyond current Von Neumann architecture, where memory and computing units are separated. Together with the non-volatility of magnetic memory, we can achieve high-speed and low-cost computing, which is desirable for the increasing scale of generative models in the current era. We experimentally demonstrate that the hardware-based true random diffusion process can be implemented for image generation and achieve comparable image quality to software-based training as measured by the Frechet inception distance (FID) score, achieving ~10^3 better energy-per-bit-per-area over traditional hardware.

41. Graph Dimension Attention Networks for Enterprise Credit Assessment

Abstract: Enterprise credit assessment is critical for evaluating financial risk, and Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), with their advanced capability to model inter-entity relationships, are a natural tool to get a deeper understanding of these financial networks. However, existing GNN-based methodologies predominantly emphasize entity-level attention mechanisms for contagion risk aggregation, often overlooking the heterogeneous importance of different feature dimensions, thus falling short in adequately modeling credit risk levels. To address this issue, we propose a novel architecture named Graph Dimension Attention Network (GDAN), which incorporates a dimension-level attention mechanism to capture fine-grained risk-related characteristics. Furthermore, we explore the interpretability of the GNN-based method in financial scenarios and propose a simple but effective data-centric explainer for GDAN, called GDAN-DistShift. DistShift provides edge-level interpretability by quantifying distribution shifts during the message-passing process. Moreover, we collected a real-world, multi-source Enterprise Credit Assessment Dataset (ECAD) and have made it accessible to the research community since high-quality datasets are lacking in this field. Extensive experiments conducted on ECAD demonstrate the effectiveness of our methods. In addition, we ran GDAN on the well-known datasets SMEsD and DBLP, also with excellent results.

Abstract: We present results from a search for X-ray/gamma-ray counterparts of gravitational-wave (GW) candidates from the third observing run (O3) of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) network using the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (Swift-BAT). The search includes 636 GW candidates received in low latency, 86 of which have been confirmed by the offline analysis and included in the third cumulative Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalogs (GWTC-3). Targeted searches were carried out on the entire GW sample using the maximum--likelihood NITRATES pipeline on the BAT data made available via the GUANO infrastructure. We do not detect any significant electromagnetic emission that is temporally and spatially coincident with any of the GW candidates. We report flux upper limits in the 15-350 keV band as a function of sky position for all the catalog candidates. For GW candidates where the Swift-BAT false alarm rate is less than 10$^{-3}$ Hz, we compute the GW--BAT joint false alarm rate. Finally, the derived Swift-BAT upper limits are used to infer constraints on the putative electromagnetic emission associated with binary black hole mergers., Comment: 50 pages, 10 figures, 4 tables

43. Unveiling the Secrets of Vortex Neutron Decay

Abstract: Investigation of decay and scattering processes of particles in a vortex state offers a novel and promising approach for probing particle structure. Our study reveals distinct properties of vortex neutron decay, which deviate from those of classical plane-wave neutron decay. We present the energy-angle distributions of the final-state electron and antineutrino in unpolarized vortex neutrons, as well as angle distributions integrated over their energies. Notably, we provide theoretical calculations of the decay behavior of neutrons with varying vortex cone angles and initial energies. We propose that identifying the vortex state of the initial neutron can be achieved by analyzing the angular and energy distributions of the final-state particles, introducing new degrees of freedom for studying weak interactions and neutron decay kinematics that have been previously overlooked in particle physics. 44. Maximum Entropy Method for Valence Quark Distributions in Exotic Hadrons: A Study of the $Z_c(3900)$ Case

Abstract: In this study we demonstrate the application of the Maximum Entropy Method (MEM) to determine the valence quark distribution of exotic hadrons. Our investigation yields three key findings. Firstly, we observe a significant shift towards smaller Bjorken scale $x$ in the peak position of the valence quark distribution for hadrons with an increasing number of valence quarks, consistent with previous results by Kawamura and Kumano. Secondly, assuming that the $Z_c(3900)$ initially consists of four valence quarks, we employ MEM to determine its initial valence quark distribution, estimating a radius of $r_c=1.276$ fm at an extremely low resolution scale $Q^2$. Furthermore, we identify a notable discrepancy between our computed charge form factor $G_c(q)$ at leading order and the outcomes of hadron molecular state calculations. We propose that this form factor can be extracted from the QCD counting rule cross-section, which is grounded in Generalized Distribution Amplitudes (GDA) linked to the multi-quark states., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures

45. FedRC: A Rapid-Converged Hierarchical Federated Learning Framework in Street Scene Semantic Understanding

Abstract: Street Scene Semantic Understanding (denoted as TriSU) is a crucial but complex task for world-wide distributed autonomous driving (AD) vehicles (e.g., Tesla). Its inference model faces poor generalization issue due to inter-city domain-shift. Hierarchical Federated Learning (HFL) offers a potential solution for improving TriSU model generalization, but suffers from slow convergence rate because of vehicles' surrounding heterogeneity across cities. Going beyond existing HFL works that have deficient capabilities in complex tasks, we propose a rapid-converged heterogeneous HFL framework (FedRC) to address the inter-city data heterogeneity and accelerate HFL model convergence rate. In our proposed FedRC framework, both single RGB image and RGB dataset are modelled as Gaussian distributions in HFL aggregation weight design. This approach not only differentiates each RGB sample instead of typically equalizing them, but also considers both data volume and statistical properties rather than simply taking data quantity into consideration. Extensive experiments on the TriSU task using across-city datasets demonstrate that FedRC converges faster than the state-of-the-art benchmark by 38.7%, 37.5%, 35.5%, and 40.6% in terms of mIoU, mPrecision, mRecall, and mF1, respectively. 46. A Simple Representation of Tree Covering Utilizing Balanced Parentheses and Efficient Implementation of Average-Case Optimal RMQs

Abstract: Tree covering is a technique for decomposing a tree into smaller-sized trees with desirable properties, and has been employed in various succinct data structures. However, significant hurdles stand in the way of a practical implementation of tree covering: a lot of pointers are used to maintain the tree-covering hierarchy and many indices for tree navigational queries consume theoretically negligible yet practically vast space. To tackle these problems, we propose a simple representation of tree covering using a balanced parenthesis representation. The key to the proposal is the observation that every micro tree splits into at most two intervals on the BP representation. Utilizing the representation, we propose several data structures that represent a tree and its tree cover, which consequently allow micro tree compression with arbitrary coding and efficient tree navigational queries. We also applied our data structure to average-case optimal RMQ by Munro et al.~[ESA 2021] and implemented the RMQ data structure. Our RMQ data structures spend less than $2n$ bits and process queries in a practical time on several settings of the performance evaluation, reducing the gap between theoretical space complexity and actual space consumption. We also implement tree navigational operations while using the same amount of space as the RMQ data structures. Abstract: The GRAINE project observes cosmic gamma-rays, using a balloon-borne emulsion-film-based telescope in the sub-GeV/GeV energy band. We reported in our previous balloon experiment in 2018, GRAINE2018, the detection of the known brightest source, Vela pulsar, with the highest angular resolution ever reported in an energy range of $>$80 MeV. However, the emulsion scanning system used in the experiment was designed to achieve a high-speed scanning, and it was not accurate enough to ensure the optimum spacial resolution of the emulsion film and limited the performance. Here, we report a new high-precision scanning system that can be used to greatly improve the observation result of GRAINE2018 and also be employed in future experiments. The system involves a new algorithm that recognizes each silver grain on an emulsion film and is capable of measuring tracks with a positional resolution for the passing points of tracks of almost the same as the intrinsic resolution of nuclear emulsion film ($\sim$70 nm). This resolution is approximately one order of magnitude smaller than that obtained with the high-speed scanning system. With this system, an angular resolution for gamma-rays of 0.1$^\circ$ at 1 GeV is expected to be achieved. Furthermore, we successfully combine the new high-precision system with the existing high-speed system, establishing the system to make a high-speed and high-precision measurement. Employing these systems, we reanalyze the gamma-ray events detected previously by only the high-speed system in GRAINE2018 and obtain an about three times higher angular resolution (0.22$^\circ$) in 500--700 MeV than the original value. 48. Faster Computation of Stabilizer Extent

Abstract: Characterization of nonstabilizerness is fruitful due to its application in gate synthesis and classical simulation. In particular, the resource monotone called the $\textit{stabilizer extent}$ is indispensable to estimate the simulation cost using the rank-based simulators, one of the state-of-the-art simulators of Clifford+$T$ circuits. In this work, we propose fast numerical algorithms to compute the stabilizer extent. Our algorithm utilizes the Column Generation method, which iteratively updates the subset of pure stabilizer states used for calculation. This subset is selected based on the overlaps between all stabilizer states and a target state. Upon updating the subset, we make use of a newly proposed subroutine for calculating the $\textit{stabilizer fidelity}$ that (i) achieves the linear time complexity with respect to the number of stabilizer states, (ii) super-exponentially reduces the space complexity by in-place calculation, and (iii) prunes unnecessary states for the computation. As a result, our algorithm can compute the stabilizer fidelity and the stabilizer extent for Haar random pure states up to $n=9$ qubits, which naively requires a memory of 305 EiB. We further show that our algorithm runs even faster when the target state vector is real. The optimization problem size is reduced so that we can compute the case of $n=10$ qubits in 4.7 hours., Comment: 15pages, 4 figures

49. Randomized Quaternion UTV Decomposition and Randomized Quaternion Tensor UTV Decomposition

Abstract: In this paper, the quaternion matrix UTV (QUTV) decomposition and quaternion tensor UTV (QTUTV) decomposition are proposed. To begin, the terms QUTV and QTUTV are defined, followed by the algorithms. Subsequently, by employing random sampling from the quaternion normal distribution, randomized QUTV and randomized QTUTV are generated to provide enhanced algorithmic efficiency. These techniques produce decompositions that are straightforward 9 to understand and require minimal cost. Furthermore, theoretical analysis is discussed. Specifically, the upper bounds for approximating QUTV on the rank-K and QTUTV on the TQt-rank K errors are provided, followed by deterministic error bounds and average-case error bounds for the randomized situations, which demonstrate the correlation between the accuracy of the low-rank approximation and the singular values. Finally, numerous numerical experiments are presented to verify that the proposed algorithms work more efficiently and with similar relative errors compared to other comparable decomposition methods. For the novel decompositions, the theory analysis offers a solid theoretical basis and the experiments show significant potential for the associated processing tasks of color images and color videos.

Abstract: In recent years, as machine learning, particularly for vision and language understanding, has been improved, research in embedded AI has also evolved. VOYAGER is a well-known LLM-based embodied AI that enables autonomous exploration in the Minecraft world, but it has issues such as underutilization of visual data and insufficient functionality as a world model. In this research, the possibility of utilizing visual data and the function of LLM as a world model were investigated with the aim of improving the performance of embodied AI. The experimental results revealed that LLM can extract necessary information from visual data, and the utilization of the information improves its performance as a world model. It was also suggested that devised prompts could bring out the LLM's function as a world model.
