There are still many unanswered questions regarding the application of response to intervention (RTI) to making eligibility decisions for specific learning disabilities (SLD). Both U.S. federal regulations and research support that students identified with SLD using RTI should be deficient in both level of academic functioning and rate of growth in response to scientifically based instruction. To date, there is little research examining whether these eligibility criteria are predictive in identifying students with SLD by evaluation teams in schools. Two studies conducted in different U.S. states examined if level of academic performance and rate of improvement (ROI) using curriculum-based measurement in reading (CBM-R) predicted student eligibility for special education. Logistic regression results indicated that level of performance predicted special education eligibility across sites and that ROI did not. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

Industry 4.0 represents an enormous potential for organizations, but its successful implementation requires a thorough analysis of Technology Transfer (TT) activities. This paper’s purpose is (1) to build on the state-of-the-art literature on Industry 4.0 and Technology Transfer, (2) to identify key characteristics of recent studies, (3) to develop a framework illustrating the relationship between Technology Transfer and Industry 4.0 and demonstrate its practical application in companies. For that purpose, the databases Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and Scopus were selected for the search of relevant papers on industry 4.0 and technology transfer. This search encompassed the 2010 to 2022 period and, after the application of the Methodi Ordinatio, a total of 70 papers were analyzed. The review examined the publication timeline, leading publishers, geographical distribution, keyword co-occurrence, and clusters. Based on this literature review, a framework that presents how the influence of technology transfer facilitates the Industry 4.0 implementation process was elaborated, named the I4.0-TT framework. The results show that Technology Transfer, jointly with 4.0 concepts and technologies, acts in five dimensions (People, Process, Technology, Strategy and Organization, and Integration). Applying these five dimensions and their respective components leads to the so-called Industry 4.0. Therefore, the conclusion reached is that Technology Transfer reveals itself as a support to apply 4.0 concepts and technologies in the organization.

A lagarta-enroladeira, Bonagota cranaodes Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), é considerada uma das principais pragas da macieira no Brasil. Com o objetivo de selecionar inseticidas visando ao controle do inseto, experimentos de laboratório e campo foram conduzidos com clorpirifós-etil (Lorsban 480 CE - 72 g de i.a./100 L), metidatiom (Supracid 400 - 60 g de i.a/100 L), fosmet (Imidan 50 PM - 100 g de i.a./100 L), triclorfom (Dipterex 500 - 150 g de i.a./100 L), tebufenozide (Mimic 240 SC - 21,6 g de i.a./100 L), fenitrotiom (Sumithion 500 CE - 75 g de i.a./100 L) e carbaril (Sevin 850 PM - 153 g de i.a./100 L). Todos os inseticidas provocaram 100% de mortalidade de lagartas recém-eclodidas em laboratório, porém, o controle de lagartas de 4º e 5º ínstar, após seu estabelecimento nas plantas de macieira, somente foi satisfatório com clorpirifós-etil, tebufenozide e triclorfom. A pulverização de clorpirifós-etil, após picos de captura dos machos de B. cranaodes com armadilhas de feromônio sexual resultaram em menos de 1% de frutos danificados na colheita em comparação com 4,6% com tebufenozide, e 9,8% na testemunha.

Os parasitóides associados à lagarta-enroladeira-da-macieira Bonagota cranaodes e o índice de parasitismo em pomares comerciais foram avaliados em Vacaria, RS (28º30'S/50º54W). A coleta das fases de desenvolvimento do inseto foi realizada no período de janeiro a junho de 1997. Lagartas de B. cranaodes foram parasitadas por insetos da família Braconidae (Apanteles sp e Earinus sp.) e Ichneumonidae (Itoplectis brasiliensis), sendo esta, a espécie mais freqüente, com 51,7% dos indivíduos coletados. O índice médio de parasitismo foi de 1,7 % com máximo de 6,3 % na primeira quinzena de maio. Não foram encontrados parasitóides associados à fase de ovo de B. cranaodes. Com base nestas informações, verificou-se que o parasitismo não é um fator importante de mortalidade da lagarta-enroladeira nos pomares comerciais de macieira.

Goal: This study aimed to propose a Technology Transfer Model oriented to Industry 4.0 (TTM4.0). Design/methodology/approach. Initially, a systematic literature review was conducted to identify existing gaps in Technology Transfer models: Another focus of the review was to determine the requirements for technological implementations in Industry 4.0. Thus, a specific TT model was built. Then, the model was validated through case studies in Brazilian companies (slaughterhouses). The methods employed to measure data and support decisions in the context of TT4.0 were AHP, Likert scale, and Fuzzy-TOPSIS. Results: Focusing on similar results between Companies A and B, thinking about adopting Industry 4.0, the central strategic needs were product quality, reducing human error, and reducing waste. Among the main factors inhibiting the maximum interest and availability of Industry 4.0 for both companies were high investment, lack of knowledge (procedures or in general), and uncertainties in results. Results indicate Big Data Analytics and artificial intelligence technologies. Originality/value: The Poultry Industry strengthens the economy and significantly impacts the country's socioeconomic indices. Despite this, the sector has a low level of technological maturity compared to others. Regarding the TTM4.0, while other models start by recognizing opportunities and then select technologies in the market, this model prioritizes phases of organizational self-knowledge for decision-making support. A primary difference between a maturity model and a Technology Transfer model is in their scope, with the latter being broader. It encompasses technology definition, implementation, and management, rather than being limited to diagnosis.

Many regulatory requirements add significant delay in the licensing of new nuclear power stations. One area of particular interest is the environmental impact of potential atmospheric release. The purpose of this research is to demonstrate effectiveness of meteorological data mining and synthesis from offsite locations to reduce need for onsite data, hence allowing rapid licensing. The automated procedures tested for data mining and extraction of meteorological data from multiple offsite sources and the data analytic tool developed for data fusion are presented here. Three important meteorological parameters from regulatory compliance are considered for this analysis: wind velocity, wind direction, and atmospheric stability. Callaway Nuclear Power Plant (CNPP) is used as our reference site. CNPP uses the ΔTΔz approach while we use the Vogt method to estimated stability for the offsite locations. Stability classification correlation coefficients between the reference plant and Columbia Regional Airport range from −0.087 to 0.826 for raw with an average of 0.317 ± 0.313. With travel time, correction changed slightly, i.e., a 10 m observation 0.064 ± 0.249 and 0.028 ± 0.123 and a 60 m observation 0.103 ± 0.265 and 0.063 ± 0.155 for the wind from the reference plant to the airport and vice versa, respectively. For Jefferson City Memorial Airport, raw data correlation was from −0.083 to 0.771, with an average of 0.358 ± 0.321. With travel time, correction changed slightly, i.e., 10 m observation 0.075 ± 0.208 and −0.073 ± 0.255 and 60 m observation 0.018 ± 0.223 and −0.032 ± 0.248 for wind from the reference plant to the airport and vice versa, respectively. Stability classification correlation coefficients between the reference plant and St. Louis Lambert International Airport ranged from −0.083 to 0.763 for raw with an average of 0.314 ± 0.295. With travel time, correction changed slightly, i.e., 10 m observation −0.003 ± 0.307 and −0.030 ± 0.277 and 60 m observation −0.030 ± 0.193 and −0.005 ± 0.215 for wind from the reference plant to the airport and vice versa, respectively. It is important to observe that mathematically. stability class correlation coefficients were not great, but in most cases the predicted and observed values were only off by one stability class. Similar correlations were calculated for wind direction and velocities. Our result, when applied to a proposed nuclear power station, can significantly reduce time and effort to prepare a robust environmental protection plan required for license application.

Resumo O ativismo gordo tem como objetivo unir e mobilizar pessoas gordas, a fim de romper com a inviabilização de seus corpos e denunciar a gordofobia. Há algum tempo, o ativismo vem impulsionando a expressão “gordofobia médica” para denunciar a opressão vivenciada dentro dos serviços de saúde. Este artigo tem como objetivo compreender o termo, a partir da percepção de pessoas gordas. É uma pesquisa qualitativa, com dados coletados por meio de um questionário virtual direcionado a pessoas gordas ou ex-gordas, que alcançou 515 respondentes de todas as regiões do Brasil. Os dados foram analisados utilizando a análise temática, com a criação de seis categorias. Entre os principais resultados, pode-se compreender que a gordofobia médica envolve: despreparo, desrespeito e autoritarismo; reprodução de estereótipos, repulsa e preconceito, desumanização da pessoa gorda, diagnóstico superficial e generalizante, desprezo da queixa, foco no peso e negligência, e precarização do acesso e dos cuidados em saúde. Conclui-se que o estudo auxilia na compreensão do termo gordofobia médica, o que facilita o seu reconhecimento e prevenção na área da saúde.

Smart cities leverage information and communication technologies to enhance urban life quality, essential in densely populated environments requiring comprehensive planning. A critical area in urban settings is food production and delivery, where effective management becomes vital. New technologies can assist, but require models that support innovative production and commercialization methods. This study proposes an integration model between family farming—producers of organic food—and urban areas—consumers of these products. The model focuses on the management of organic food production and delivery to meet urban demands, serving as a tool in the transformation of these areas into smart municipalities. Additionally, this study suggests an alternative certification method for organic food production within family farming. A systematic literature review was conducted using the Methodi Ordinatio methodology. Content analysis of the selected articles identified strategies cities can adopt to promote organic certification, emphasizing transparent governance, public food procurement policies, and participatory certification systems. The proposed model aims to reduce bureaucracy and improve family farmers' income, aligning with several Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). This qualitative study explored implementation barriers and facilitators that can be addressed by clinical leadership and staff to expand uptake of enhanced sexually transmitted infection screening protocols. Background: Reportable sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have increased in California, with dramatic rises in prenatal and congenital syphilis. In response, in 2018 Planned Parenthood Northern California implemented 2 opt-out screening protocols: (1) HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis co-screening for pregnant patients at pregnancy diagnosis and (2) linking HIV and syphilis screening for all patients. Methods: Using qualitative analyses, we explored implementation barriers and facilitators that can be addressed by clinical leadership and staff to expand uptake of enhanced screening protocols. Sixteen staff were interviewed across 3 Planned Parenthood Northern California clinics. Primary thematic analysis followed by secondary subanalysis identified themes. Analyses of questions were only included for each interviewee if answered and applicable. Results: Five themes of commentary emerged, featuring both facilitators and barriers for protocol implementation: patient education/communication, staff education/communication, workflow; patient willingness, and (for protocol 1 only) visit complexity at the time of pregnancy diagnosis. Additional findings included the following: 93% (13 of 14) stated protocols increased syphilis screening and identification; 100% (12 of 12) reported positive impacts on patient care; 42% (5 of 12) noted increases in staff workload, 25% (3 of 12) reported workload improvements over time, and 33% (4 of 12) reported no workload-related impacts; and 86% (13 of 15) reported decreased screening during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: Addressing patient and staff education during the beginning stages of implementation may have positive impacts on willingness to adopt new protocols. Consideration of workflow and visit complexity at pregnancy diagnosis may also aid in successful implementation of expanded STI screening protocols in family planning clinics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to study employee engagement in higher education by examining full-time non-tenure track faculty members' perceptions at a North East US state public university. Design/methodology/approach: The authors used semi-structured face-to-face personal interviews with 11 non-tenure track full-time university faculty. Using a phenomenological approach, thematic analysis was conducted for employee interview data. The data was further refined through first and second cycle coding. The primary eight coded clusters were further reduced to three data clusters, each representing an evolving unit of meaning. Findings: The analysis revealed three themes relating to how full-time non-tenure track faculty experience and understand engagement: required institutional engagement, perceived necessary engagement and relational collegial engagement. Originality/value: The study adds to the limited research available on non-tenure track faculty members within higher education organization and their perceptions of engagement.
