En este Trabajo de Fin de Grado, se ha estudiado la manipulación de polvos cohesivos en un sistema de alimentación de laboratorio a partir de la influencia de los parámetros del sistema así como del contenido de humedad. Para ello, se ha utilizado una rampa vibratoria integrada en una tolva simple con el fin de evaluar la alimentación de polvos cohesivos. El objetivo era entender el comportamiento de los polvos finos en un sistema de alimentación, y poder así identificar los parámetros que intervienen y evaluarlos de forma que se mejorase la alimentación de las partículas en búsqueda siempre del mejor rendimiento. Este último implicaba la obtención de un flujo continuo y controlado dentro de unos límites establecidos y sin la presencia de posibles bloques de material que pudieran alterar el flujo másico dando lugar a una mayor variedad de resultados. El proyecto se ha desarrollado en tres pasos principales: revisión bibliográfica, experimentación y revisión de los resultados y principales conclusiones. Se ha estudiado la bibliografía más relevante con el fin de seleccionar los factores más influyentes que se podían variar en el montaje experimental, donde se utilizó el almidón como materia prima. Estos factores eran el contenido de humedad, la altura entre la punta de la tolva y la rampa, la intensidad de vibración, la inclinación del sistema y el tiempo e intensidad de compactación. Todos ellos tenían una relación proporcional con el flujo másico del sistema, excepto el contenido de humedad, que empeoraba la fluidez cuando alcanzaba valores más altos. Por lo tanto, con la excepción de este último, los valores más altos de los parámetros de control trajeron valores altos en el flujo de masa (variable de respuesta), pero en el caso en el que se quiera tener un rango de flujo de masa controlado, los parámetros de control deben ser equilibrados. Por lo tanto, este estudio aporta la posibilidad de ser ampliado a nuevos frentes de trabajo que podrían trabajar con otros materiales diferentes o sistemas de alimentación análogos.

En este trabajo se han variado, en un banco de pruebas a escala de laboratorio, tres parámetros de funcionamiento durante la limpieza de gases con un medio filtrante regenerable: durante la fase de limpieza de gases (filtración), la velocidad de filtración, y durante la fase de limpieza del filtro, la presión del tanque y la tasa de aumento de presión. Con los resultados experimentales y gracias a un estudio estadístico de los mismos, se ha obtenido la influencia de estos parámetros nombrados en el grado de regeneración.

Cake filtration is a unit operation to separate solids from fluids in industrial processes. The build up of a filter cake is usually accompanied with a decrease in overall permeability over the filter leading to an increased pressure drop over the filter. For an incompressible filter cake that builds up on a homogeneous filter cloth, a linear pressure drop profile over time is expected for a constant fluid volume flow. However, experiments show curved pressure drop profiles, which are also attributed to inhomogeneities of the filter (filter medium and/or residual filter cake). In this work, a mathematical filter model is developed to describe the relationship between time and overall permeability. The model considers a filter with an inhomogeneous permeability and accounts for fluid mechanics by a one-dimensional formulation of Darcy's law and for the cake build up by solid continuity. The model can be solved analytically in the time domain. The analytic solution allows for the unambiguous inversion of the model to determine the inhomogeneous permeability from the time resolved overall permeability, e.g. pressure drop measurements. An error estimation of the method is provided by rewriting the model as convolution transformation. This method is applied to simulated and experimental pressure drop data of gas filters with textile filter cloths and various situations with non-uniform flow situations in practical problems are explored. A routine is developed to generate characteristic filter cycles from semi-continuous filter plant operation. The model is modified to investigate the impact of non-uniform dust concentrations. In this work, a 23-1 designed experiment has been performed to evaluate the effect of selected operating conditions on PEMFC performance and durability. Relative humidity, clamping pressure and back pressure were studied at two levels for Gore MEAs and GDLs. Two replicated experiments were performed. An ON/OFF test cycle was used to accelerate degradation. Total duration of the tests, after a break in procedure suggested by Gore, was ten days. In addition to sampling of voltage and current response and ohmic resistance, effluents were manually sampled from both electrodes every 24 hours and analyzed. Experiments with low humidification levels showed inferior durability. The combination of high relative humidity (100 %), high clamping pressure (10 barg) and high back pressure (1.5barg) result in the best performance and the lowest degradation rate. Results indicate that relative humidity is important both for performance and durability. Generally, fluoride emission rates (FER) showed an increasing trend with time. Higher rates were observed at the cathode. For the experiment with low relative humidity (25 %), low clamping pressure (5 barg) and high back pressure (1.5 barg) FER was significantly higher compared to the other experiments. For all tests the sulfur emission rates (SER) are initial high. Rates are higher at the anode. For the experiment with high relative humidity, low clamping pressure and no back pressure, the SER was significantly higher than for the other experiments. The sustained high levels of sulfur are probably a result of sulfuric acid residue from production of the MEA and/or GDL. High humidification of gases appears to more effectively wash out the sulfur.
