We have extracted 636 spectra taken at the positions of 583 transient sources from the third Data Release of the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy eXperiment (HETDEX). The transients were discovered by the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) during 2018 - 2022. The HETDEX spectra are useful to classify a large number of objects found by photometric surveys for free. We attempt to explore and classify the spectra by utilizing machine learning (ML) and template matching techniques. We have identified two transient sources, ZTF20aatpoos = AT2020fiz and ZTF19abdkelq as supernova candidates. We classify AT2020fiz as a Type IIP supernova observed ~10 days after explosion, and we propose ZTF19abdkelq as a likely Type Ia SN caught ~40 days after maximum light. ZTF photometry of these two sources are consistent with their classification as supernovae. Beside these two objects, we have confirmed several ZTF transients as variable AGNs based on their spectral appearance, and also determined the host galaxy types for several other ZTF transients., submitted to ApJ

The K2 mission of the Kepler Space Telescope allowed the observations of light curves of small solar system bodies throughout the whole Solar system. In this paper we present the results of a collection of K2 transneptunian object observations, between Campaigns C03 (November 2014 -- February 2015) to C19 (August -- September, 2018), which includes 66 targets. Due to the faintness of our targets the detectability rate of a light curve period is $\sim$56%, notably lower than in the case of other small body populations, like Hildas or Jovian trojans. We managed to obtain light curve periods with an acceptable confidence for 37 targets; the majority of these cases are new identifications. We were able to give light curve amplitude upper limits for the other 29 targets. Several of the newly detected light curve periods are longer than $\sim$24 h, in many cases close to $\sim$80 h, i.e., these targets are slow rotators. This relative abundance of slowly rotating objects is similar to that observed among Hildas, Jovian trojans and Centaurs in the K2 mission, and also among main belt asteroids measured with the TESS Space Telescope. Transneptunian objects show notably higher light curve amplitudes at large (D $\gtrsim$ 300 km) sizes than that found among large main belt asteroids, in contrast to the general expectation that due to their lower compressive strength they reach hydrostatic equlibrium at smaller sizes than their inner solar system counterparts., Accepted for publication in ApJS

Earlier reviews of trans-Neptunian light curves reported mean rotation periods of P = 7-8 h (Duffard et al., 2009), and it was also found that the binary trans-Neptunian population rotates slower (Thirouin & Sheppard, 2014), and objects in the cold classical population have larger variability and rotate slower than the non-cold classical TNOs (Benecchi et al., 2013,Thirouin & Sheppard, 2019). While ground-based observations have obvious limitations in detecting long-period light curves the K2 mission of the Kepler Space Telescope allowed long (up to ~80 days), uninterrupted observations of many Solar system objects, including main belt asteroids, Hildas, Jovian trojans, and also the irregular satellites of giant planets. Light curves were also published for a few, selected trans-Neptunian objects based on K2 observations (see Kiss et al., 2020, for a summary). A common outcome of the studies of larger samples, across all dynamical classes, was the identification of an increased number of targets with long rotation periods compared to previous ground-based studies. A similar trend is observed among the data of nearly 10 000 main belt asteroids obtained by the TESS Space Telescope (Pál et al., 2020), and asteroids with long rotation periods were identified in other surveys like the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS), the Zwicky Transient Facility (Erasmus et al., 2021) and the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (Hanus et al., 2021). We have collected the K2 trans-Neptunian object observations between Campaigns C03 (November 2014 -- February 2015) to C19 (August -- September, 2018), which includes 67 targets. Due to the faintness of our targets the detectability rate of a light curve period is ~57 %, notably lower than in the case of other small body populations, like Hildas or Jovian trojans. We managed to obtain light curve periods with an acceptable confidence for 36 targets; the majority of these cases are new identifications. We were able to give light curve amplitude upper limits for the other 31 targets. Several of the newly detected light curve periods are longer than ~24 h, in many cases close to ~100 h, i.e., slow rotators. There is a very significant difference between the rotation rates of the LCDB and K2 TNO samples (Figs. 1 and 2). The mean LCD spin frequency is 2.71 c/d (8.8 h), while it is 0.87 c/d (27.6 h) in the K2 sample which is more similar to the K2 Hilda and Jovian Trojan spin frequency distrbutions. Thirouin & Sheppard (2019) obtained 9.48±1.53 h and 8.45±0.58 h mean rotation periods for the cold classical and the non-cold classical TNOs. Our mean values for the same dynamical groups (but using different targets) are notably longer: 1.21+1.58-0.63 c/d (19.83 h) and 0.83+1.81-0.23 c/d (P=28.91 h), respectively. The K2 mean frequency is higher than that of the K2 Jovian Trojans and Hildas, but we could not detect the very long period targets that were observed in these other K2 samples. While there are only three objects with D>500 km in our sample, there are a number of objects -- both with and without detected light curve periods -- that fall in the 300≤D≤500 km transitional zone where asphericity -- hence light curve amplitude -- is expected to drop assuming a single rotating body, assuming main belt composition. Main belt asteroids are already almost extinct in this size range, and so are Centaurs -- for these bodies irregular shapes are expected in most cases. While the general trend is that larger objects have smaller light curve amplitudes among TNOs -- a trend followed both by our sample and the LCDB TNOs -- there are a considerable number of TNOs with high asphericity in the 300≤D≤500 km size range. This contradiction could be resolved if TNOs had higher-than-expected compressive strength and become spherical for sizes larger than their main belt counterparts, and remain 'irregular' in the 300≤D≤500 km range. However, their general low density and high porosity point against this scenario. A notable fraction of contact or semi-contact binary systems in which the members themselves are in hydrostatical equlibrium could produce a population of high-amplitude light curves in this size range (Lacerda et al., 2006, 2014). As some authors pointed out, contact binaries may be very frequent, especially in the plutino population (Thirouin & Sheppard, 2018,2019). The long term stability of such systems against their tidal evolution, however, should be investigated to answer the reliability of this assumption. Finally, spherical (rotationally flattened) bodies with large albedo variegations could also explain the observed amplitudes. While the general expectation in most TNO light curve studies was a double peak light curve, in our sample most light curves were found to be single-peak, after comparing the single-peak and double-peak solutions. We present extensive observations of SN 2018zd covering the first $\sim450$\,d after the explosion. This SN shows a possible shock-breakout signal $\sim3.6$\,hr after the explosion in the unfiltered light curve, and prominent flash-ionisation spectral features within the first week. The unusual photospheric temperature rise (rapidly from $\sim 12,000$\,K to above 18,000\,K) within the earliest few days suggests that the ejecta were continuously heated. Both the significant temperature rise and the flash spectral features can be explained with the interaction of the SN ejecta with the massive stellar wind ($0.18^{+0.05}_{-0.10}\, \rm M_{\odot}$), which accounts for the luminous peak ($L_{\rm max} = [1.36\pm 0.63] \times 10^{43}\, \rm erg\,s^{-1}$) of SN 2018zd. The luminous peak and low expansion velocity ($v \approx 3300$ km s$^{-1}$) make SN 2018zd to be like a member of the LLEV (luminous SNe II with low expansion velocities) events originated due to circumstellar interaction. The relatively fast post-peak decline allows a classification of SN 2018zd as a transition event morphologically linking SNe~IIP and SNe~IIL. In the radioactive-decay phase, SN 2018zd experienced a significant flux drop and behaved more like a low-luminosity SN~IIP both spectroscopically and photometrically. This contrast indicates that circumstellar interaction plays a vital role in modifying the observed light curves of SNe~II. Comparing nebular-phase spectra with model predictions suggests that SN 2018zd arose from a star of $\sim 12\,\rm M_{\odot}$. Given the relatively small amount of $^{56}$Ni ($0.013 - 0.035 \rm M_{\odot}$), the massive stellar wind, and the faint X-ray radiation, the progenitor of SN 2018zd could be a massive asymptotic giant branch star which collapsed owing to electron capture., Accepted for publication in MNRAS, 20 pages, 11 figures

Extreme debris discs are characterized by unusually strong mid-infrared excess emission, which often proves to be variable. The warm dust in these discs is of transient nature and is likely related to a recent giant collision occurring close to the star in the terrestrial region. Here we present the results of a 877 days long, gap-free photometric monitoring performed by the Spitzer Space Telescope of the recently discovered extreme debris disc around TYC 4209-1322-1. By combining these observations with other time-domain optical and mid-infrared data, we explore the disc variability of the last four decades with particular emphasis on the last 12 yr. During the latter interval the disc showed substantial changes, the most significant was the brightening and subsequent fading between 2014 and 2018 as outlined in WISE data. The Spitzer light curves outline the fading phase and a subsequent new brightening of the disc after 2018, revealing an additional flux modulation with a period of ~39 days on top of the long-term trend. We found that all these variations can be interpreted as the outcome of a giant collision that happened at an orbital radius of ~0.3 au sometime in 2014. Our analysis implies that a collision on a similar scale could have taken place around 2010, too. The fact that the disc was already peculiarly dust rich 40 yr ago, as implied by IRAS data, suggests that these dust production events belong to a chain of large impacts triggered by an earlier even more catastrophic collision., Comment: 18 pages, 12 figures, published in MNRAS

Various properties of Jovian trojan asteroids such as composition, rotation periods, and photometric amplitudes, or the rate of binarity in the population can provide information and constraints on the evolution of the group and of the Solar System itself. Here we present new photometric properties of 45 Jovian trojans from the K2 mission of the Kepler space telescope, and present phase-folded light curves for 44 targets, including (11351) Leucus, one of the targets of the Lucy mission. We extend our sample to 101 asteroids with previous K2 Trojan measurements, then compare their combined amplitude- and frequency distributions to other ground-based and space data. We show that there is a dichotomy in the periods of Trojans with a separation at $\sim 100$ hr. We find that 25% of the sample are slow rotators (P$\geq$30 hr), which excess can be attributed to binary objects. We also show that 32 systems can be classified as potential detached binary systems. Finally, we calculate density and rotation constraints for the asteroids. Both the spin barrier and fits to strengthless ellipsoid models indicate low densities and thus compositions similar to cometary and TNO populations throughout the sample. We present our photometric and spectroscopic observations on the peculiar transient AT2018cow. The multi-band photometry covers from peak to $\sim$70 days and the spectroscopy ranges from 5 to $\sim$50 days. The rapid rise ($t_{\mathrm{r}}$$\lesssim$2.9 days), high luminosity ($M_{V,\mathrm{peak}}\sim-$20.8 mag) and fast decline after peak make AT2018cow stand out of any other optical transients. While we find that its light curves show high resemblance to those of type Ibn supernovae. Moreover, the spectral energy distribution remains high temperature of $\sim$14,000 K after $\sim$15 days since discovery. The spectra are featureless in the first 10 days, while some broad emission lines due to H, He, C and O emerge later, with velocity declining from $\sim$14,000 km s$^{-1}$ to $\sim$3000 km s$^{-1}$ at the end of our observations. Narrow and weak He I emission lines emerge in the spectra at $t>$20 days since discovery. These emission lines are reminiscent of the features seen in interacting supernovae like type Ibn and IIn subclasses. We fit the bolometric light curves with a model of circumstellar interaction (CSI) and radioactive decay (RD) of \Ni and find a good fit with ejecta mass $M_{\mathrm{ej}}\sim$3.16 M$_{\odot}$, circumstellar material mass $M_{\mathrm{CSM}}\sim$0.04 M$_{\odot}$, and ejected \Ni mass $M_{^{56}\mathrm{Ni}}\sim$0.23 M$_{\odot}$. The CSM shell might be formed in an eruptive mass ejection of the progenitor star. Furthermore, host environment of AT2018cow implies connection of AT2018cow with massive stars. Combining observational properties and the light curve fitting results, we conclude that AT2018cow might be a peculiar interacting supernova originated from a massive star., Accepted for publication in ApJ

V555 Ori is a T Tauri star, whose 1.5 mag brightening was published as a Gaia science alert in 2017. We carried out optical and near-infrared photometric, and optical spectroscopic observations to understand the light variations. The light curves show that V555 Ori was faint before 2017, entered a high state for about a year, and returned to the faint state by mid-2018. In addition to the long-term flux evolution, quasi-periodic brightness oscillations were also evident, with a period of about 5 days. At optical wavelengths both the long-term and short-term variations exhibited colourless changes, while in the near-infrared they were consistent with changing extinction. We explain the brightness variations as the consequence of changing extinction. The object has a low accretion rate whose variation in itself would not be enough to reproduce the optical flux changes. This behaviour makes V555 Ori similar to the pre-main sequence star AA Tau, where the light changes are interpreted as periodic eclipses of the star by a rotating inner disc warp. The brightness maximum of V555 Ori was a moderately obscured ($A_V$=2.3 mag) state, while the extinction in the low state was $A_V$=6.4 mag. We found that while the Gaia alert hinted at an accretion burst, V555 Ori is a standard dipper, similar to the prototype AA Tau. However, unlike in AA Tau, the periodic behaviour was also detectable in the faint phase, implying that the inner disc warp remained stable in both the high and low states of the system., Accepted to MNRAS

Among the low-mass pre-main sequence stars, a small group called FU Orionis-type objects (FUors) are notable for undergoing powerful accretion outbursts. V1057 Cyg, a classical example of an FUor, went into outburst around 1969-1970, after which it faded rapidly, making it the fastest fading FUor known. Around 1995, a more rapid increase in fading occurred. Since that time, strong photometric modulations have been present. We present nearly 10 years of source monitoring at Piszk\'estet\H{o} Observatory, complemented with optical/near-infrared photometry and spectroscopy from the Nordic Optical Telescope, Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory, Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, and the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy. Our light curves show continuation of significant quasi-periodic variability in brightness over the past decade. Our spectroscopic observations show strong wind features, shell features, and forbidden emission lines. All of these spectral lines vary with time. We also report the first detection of [S II], [N II], and [O III] lines in the star., Comment: 37 pages, 20 figures

We identified 125 individual light curves of Hilda asteroids observed by the K2 mission. We found that despite of the mixed taxonomies, the Hilda group highly resembles the Trojans in the distribution of rotation periods and amplitudes, and even the LR group (mostly C- and X-type) Hildas follow this rule. Contrary to the Main Belt, the Hilda group lacks the very fast rotators. The ratio of extremely slow rotators (P > 100 hr) is a surprising 18%, which is unique in the solar system. The occurrence rate of asteroids with multiple periods (4%) and asteroids with three maxima in the light curves (5%) can be signs of a high rate of binarity, which we can estimate as 25% within the Hilda group. Based on our extraction of 10 thousand full asteroid light curves from the first year observations by TESS (P\'al et al. 2020) we can compare the distribution of rotation period and shape asphericity in the most populated asteroid families overall in the Main Belt. We reveal internal structure of some asteroid families in respect to rotation statistics and signs of rotation properties evolving with age.

Due to their faintness light curves of transneptunian objects (TNOs) in most cases are difficult to obtain, and therefore the number of TNOs with known rotational properties (at least rotation period) are rather limited. As it was shown for other small body populations, long-term, 1-3-month monitoring of small bodies revealed many targets with long rotation periods. These measurements significantly increased the number of slow rotators (P > 24h) for Jovian Trojans (Szabó et al., 2017), Hildas (Szabó et al., 2020) and Centaurs (Marton et al., 2020) using Kepler/K2 measurements, and also for main belt asteroids (Pál et al., 2020) using the TESS space telescope. Here we report on Kepler/K2 measurements of 70 TNOs, collected over the whole length of the K2 mission, in Campaigns 3-19. Our data notably increases the number of TNOs with known rotational properties. We compare these characteristics with those of other small body populations in the Solar system. The impact of meteor showers and individual meteors on the ionosphere has been investigated during wintertime meteor showers using synchronised measurements of two DPS-4D Digisondes installed at Pruhonice (50°, 14.5°) and at Sopron (47.63°, 16.72°). Rather short distance between Pruhonice and Sopron allow us to perform special joint campaigns of vertical and oblique sounding under the high sampling rate to detect fine structures within ionospheric plasma. High cadence campaigns have been performed to observe behavior of sporadic E layer (Es) during the Leonids, Geminids and Quadrantids meteor showers in 2018 and 2019. The time resolution of the ionograms have been set to approximately 0.5 - 2 ionograms per minute. We used vertical and oblique reflections to investigate the fine structure and the movement of Es layer. Based on the first results the oblique sounding is a good technique to detect the Es activity between two stations, however there were periods (typically 10 to 40 minutes of duration) when the Es was observed using oblique trace but there was no observation of Es layer in vertical ionograms. Furthermore, double Es structures have been detected more times for tens of minutes during the observation nights. Beside the regular behavior of Es we concentrated on observation of intervals of increased plasma frequency in the Es region presumably directly induced by the meteors. In the framework of GINOP-2.3.2-15-2016-00003 (“Kozmikus hatások és kockázatok") an optical camera has been installed at the MTA Széchenyi István Geophysical Observatory (Sopron) in September 2019 with the cooperation of the Konkoly Observatory to monitor the meteors. Therefore, we were able to compare the ionograms measured during meteor showers with the optical data to determine the plasma trails of individual meteors. In the 20-25% of the observed meteors a faint Es layers were detected on the ionograms during and after (< 1 min) the optical record. The direction of the detected plasma traces determined by the SAO Explorer was in good agreement with the direction of the optically observed meteors in most of the cases. Consequently, the plasma trace of individual meteors could be detected on the high time resolution ionograms.

Well defined periodic light curves are obtained in six cases allowing us to derive rotational periods, a notable increase in the number of Centaurs with known rotational properties. The low amplitude light curves of (471931) 2013 PH44 and (250112) 2002 KY14 can be explained either by albedo variegations, binarity or elongated shape. (353222) 2009 YD7 and (514312) 2016 AE193 could be rotating elongated objects, while 2017 CX33 and 2012 VU85 are the most promising binary candidates due to their slow rotations and higher light curve amplitudes. (463368) 2012 VU85 has the longest rotation period, P = 56.2 h observed among Centaurs. Ziółkowska, We present optical-infrared photometric and spectroscopic observations of Gaia 18dvy, located in the Cygnus OB3 association at a distance of 1.88 kpc. Gaia 18dvy was noted by the Gaia alerts system when its light curve exhibited a ⪆4 mag rise in 2018-2019. The brightening was also observable at mid-infared wavelengths. The infrared colors of Gaia 18dvy became bluer as the outburst progressed. Its optical and near-infrared spectroscopic characteristics in the outburst phase are consistent with those of bona fide FU Orionis-type young eruptive stars. The progenitor of the outburst is probably a low-mass K-type star with an optical extinction of ∼3 mag. A radiative transfer modeling of the circumstellar structure, based on the quiescent spectral energy distribution, indicates a disk with a mass of 4 10-3 M o˙. Our simple accretion disk modeling implies that the accretion rate had been exponentially increasing for more than 3 yr until mid-2019, when it reached a peak value of 6.9 10-6 M o˙ yr-1. We present panchromatic observations and modeling of the Calcium-rich supernova 2019ehk in the star-forming galaxy M100 (d$\approx$16.2 Mpc) starting 10 hours after explosion and continuing for ~300 days. SN 2019ehk shows a double-peaked optical light curve peaking at $t = 3$ and $15$ days. The first peak is coincident with luminous, rapidly decaying $\textit{Swift}$-XRT discovered X-ray emission ($L_x\approx10^{41}~\rm{erg~s^{-1}}$ at 3 days; $L_x \propto t^{-3}$), and a Shane/Kast spectral detection of narrow H$��$ and He II emission lines ($v \approx 500$ km/s) originating from pre-existent circumstellar material. We attribute this phenomenology to radiation from shock interaction with extended, dense material surrounding the progenitor star at $r, 51 pages, 27 figures. Accepted for publication in ApJ

We present optical and UV data on one such object, SN 2018gep, that displayed a fast rise with a mostly featureless blue continuum around peak, and evolved to develop broad features typical of an SN Ic-bl while retaining significant amounts of blue flux throughout its observations. This blue excess is most evident in its near-UV flux, which is over 4 mag brighter than other stripped-envelope supernovae, and is still visible in optical g-r colors. Its fast rise time of t (rise,V ) = 5.6 +/- 0.5 days puts it squarely in the emerging class of Fast Evolving Luminous Transients, or Fast Blue Optical Transients. With a peak absolute magnitude of M ( v ) = -19.53 +/- 0.23 mag it is on the extreme end of both the rise time and peak magnitude distribution for SNe Ic-bl. These observations are consistent with a simple SN Ic-bl model that has an additional form of energy injection at early times that drives the observed rapid, blue rise. We show that SN 2018gep and the literature SN iPTF16asu have similar photometric and spectroscopic properties and that they overall share many similarities with both SNe Ic-bl and Fast Evolving Transients. Based on our SN 2018gep host galaxy data we derive a number of properties, and we show that the derived host galaxy properties for both SN 2018gep and iPTF16asu are consistent with the SNe Ic-bl and gamma-ray burst/supernova sample while being on the extreme edge of the observed Fast Evolving Transient sample., W.M. We present the first simultaneous photometric and spectroscopic investigation of a large set of RR Lyrae variables in a globular cluster. The radial-velocity data presented comprise the largest sample of RVs of RR Lyrae stars ever obtained. The target is M3; $BVI_{\mathrm{C}}$ time-series of 111 and $b$ flux data of further 64 RRab stars, and RV data of 79 RR Lyrae stars are published. Blazhko modulation of the light curves of 47 percent of the RRab stars are detected. The mean value of the center-of-mass velocities of RR Lyrae stars is $-146.8$ km s$^{-1}$ with 4.52 km s$^{-1}$ standard deviation, which is in good agreement with the results obtained for the red giants of the cluster. The ${\Phi_{21}}^{\mathrm RV}$ phase difference of the RV curves of RRab stars is found to be uniformly constant both for the M3 and for Galactic field RRab stars; no period or metallicity dependence of the ${\Phi_{21}}^{\mathrm RV}$ is detected. The Baade-Wesselink distances of 26 non-Blazhko variables with the best phase-coverage radial-velocity curves are determined; the corresponding distance of the cluster, $10480\pm210$ pc, agrees with the previous literature information. A quadratic formula for the $A_{\mathrm{puls}}-A_V$ relation of RRab stars is given, which is valid for both OoI and OoII variables. We also show that the $(V-I)_0$ of RRab stars measured at light minimum is period dependent, there is at least 0.1 mag difference between the colours at minimum light of the shortest- and longest-period variables., Comment: 22 pages, 14 figures, accepted for publication in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society

V582 Aur is a pre-main sequence FU Orionis type eruptive star, which entered a brightness minimum in 2016 March due to changes in the line-of-sight extinction. Here, we present and analyze new optical $B$, $V$, $R_C$ and $I_C$ band multiepoch observations and new near-infrared $J$, $H$ and $K_S$ band photometric measurements from 2018 January$-$2019 February, as well as publicly available mid-infrared WISE data. We found that the source shows a significant optical$-$near-infrared variability, and the current brightness minimum has not completely finished yet. If the present dimming originates from the same orbiting dust clump that caused a similar brightness variation in 2012, than our results suggest a viscous spreading of the dust particles along the orbit. Another scenario is that the current minimum is caused by a dust structure, that is entering and leaving the inner part of the system. The WISE measurements could be consistent with this scenario. Our long-term data, as well as an accretion disk modeling hint at a general fading of V582 Aur, suggesting that the source will reach the quiescent level in $\sim$80 years., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

Supernova (SN) 2018oh (ASASSN-18bt) is the first spectroscopically-confirmed type Ia supernova (SN Ia) observed in the $Kepler$ field. The $Kepler$ data revealed an excess emission in its early light curve, allowing to place interesting constraints on its progenitor system (Dimitriadis et al. 2018, Shappee et al. 2018b). Here, we present extensive optical, ultraviolet, and near-infrared photometry, as well as dense sampling of optical spectra, for this object. SN 2018oh is relatively normal in its photometric evolution, with a rise time of 18.3$\pm$0.3 days and $\Delta$m$_{15}(B)=0.96\pm$0.03 mag, but it seems to have bluer $B - V$ colors. We construct the "uvoir" bolometric light curve having peak luminosity as 1.49$\times$10$^{43}$erg s$^{-1}$, from which we derive a nickel mass as 0.55$\pm$0.04M$_{\odot}$ by fitting radiation diffusion models powered by centrally located $^{56}$Ni. Note that the moment when nickel-powered luminosity starts to emerge is +3.85 days after the first light in the Kepler data, suggesting other origins of the early-time emission, e.g., mixing of $^{56}$Ni to outer layers of the ejecta or interaction between the ejecta and nearby circumstellar material or a non-degenerate companion star. The spectral evolution of SN 2018oh is similar to that of a normal SN Ia, but is characterized by prominent and persistent carbon absorption features. The C II features can be detected from the early phases to about 3 weeks after the maximum light, representing the latest detection of carbon ever recorded in a SN Ia. This indicates that a considerable amount of unburned carbon exists in the ejecta of SN 2018oh and may mix into deeper layers., Comment: 48 pages, 23 figures. Hilda asteroids orbit at the outer edge, or just outside of the Main Belt, occupying the 2:3 mean motion resonance with Jupiter. It is known that the group shows a mixed taxonomy that suggests the mixed origin of Hilda members, having migrated to the current orbit both from the outer Main Belt and from the Trojans swarms. But there are still few observations for comparative studies that help in understanding the Hilda group in deeper details. We identified 125 individual light curves of Hilda asteroids observed by the K2 mission. We found that despite of the mixed taxonomies, the Hilda group highly resembles to the Trojans in the distribution of rotation periods and amplitudes, and even the LR group (mostly C and X-type) Hildas follow this rule. Contrary to the Main Belt, Hilda group lacks the very fast rotators. The ratio of extremely slow rotators (P>100 h) is a surprising 18%, which is unique in the Solar System. The occurrence rate of asteroids with multiple periods (4%) and asteroids with three maxima in the light curves (5%) can be signs of high rate of binarity, which we can estimate as 25% within the Hilda group., ApJS, in press, 28 pages

Compared with previous space-borne surveys, the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) provides a unique and new approach to observe Solar System objects. While its primary mission avoids the vicinity of the ecliptic plane by approximately six degrees, the scale height of the Solar System debris disk is large enough to place various small body populations in the field-of-view. In this paper we present the first data release of photometric analysis of TESS observations of small Solar System Bodies, focusing on the bright end of the observed main-belt asteroid and Jovian Trojan populations. This data release, named TSSYS-DR1, contains 9912 light curves obtained and extracted in a homogeneous manner, and triples the number of bodies with unambiguous fundamental rotation characteristics, namely where accurate periods and amplitudes are both reported. Our catalogue clearly shows that the number of bodies with long rotation periods are definitely underestimated by all previous ground-based surveys, by at least an order of magnitude., ApJS, in press. We present a comparative study of absolute distances to a sample of very nearby, bright Type Ia supernovae (SNe) derived from high cadence, high signal-to-noise, multi-band photometric data. Our sample consists of four SNe: 2012cg, 2012ht, 2013dy and 2014J. We present new homogeneous, high-cadence photometric data in Johnson-Cousins BVRI and Sloan g'r'i'z' bands taken from two sites (Piszkesteto and Baja, Hungary), and the light curves are analyzed with publicly available light curve fitters (MLCS2k2, SNooPy2 and SALT2.4). When comparing the best-fit parameters provided by the different codes, it is found that the distance moduli of moderately-reddened SNe Ia agree within ~0.2 mag, and the agreement is even better (< 0.1 mag) for the highest signal-to-noise BVRI data. For the highly-reddened SN~2014J the dispersion of the inferred distance moduli is slightly higher. These SN-based distances are in good agreement with the Cepheid distances to their host galaxies. We conclude that the current state-of-the-art light curve fitters for Type Ia SNe can provide consistent absolute distance moduli having less than ~0.1 -- 0.2 mag uncertainty for nearby SNe. Still, there is room for future improvements to reach the desired ~0.05 mag accuracy in the absolute distance modulus., accepted for publication in PASP

Young stellar objects often show photometric variability, which is well examined at optical wavelengths, but more and more infrared data are also available. The wavelength dependence of the variability carries information on the physical cause of the changing brightness. Here, we examine seven T Tauri-type stars known for their large amplitude variability selected from the Campaign 13 field of the Kepler K2 mission. We complemented the K2 light curves by multifilter optical monitoring observations made with the 90 cm Schmidt telescope of Konkoly Observatory, and by 3.6 and 4.5 μm infrared photometry with a 20 hours cadence using the Spitzer Space Telescope. We found that the wavelength dependence of the observed variability is not consistent with changing interstellar extinction. We suggest that the brightness changes are due to variable accretion, causing a variable illumination of the inner disk.

We present a photometric detection of the first brightness dips of the unique variable star KIC 8462852 since the end of the Kepler space mission in 2013 May. Our regular photometric surveillance started in October 2015, and a sequence of dipping began in 2017 May continuing on through the end of 2017, when the star was no longer visible from Earth. We distinguish four main 1-2.5% dips, named "Elsie," "Celeste," "Skara Brae," and "Angkor", which persist on timescales from several days to weeks. Our main results so far are: (i) there are no apparent changes of the stellar spectrum or polarization during the dips; (ii) the multiband photometry of the dips shows differential reddening favoring non-grey extinction. Therefore, our data are inconsistent with dip models that invoke optically thick material, but rather they are in-line with predictions for an occulter consisting primarily of ordinary dust, where much of the material must be optically thin with a size scale <, 19 pages, 8 figures, accepted for publication in ApJL

2012 DR is one of the known solar system objects with the largest aphelion distance, exceeding 2200 au, on a high inclination orbit (i =78). It has been recognized to be either a borderline representative of high inclination, high perihelion distance (HiHq) objects, or even a new class of bodies, similar to HiHq objects for orbit but with an aphelion in the inner Oort Cloud. Here, we present photometry using long-term data from 2000 to 2013 taken by the SDSS sky survey, ESO MPG 2.2 m and McDonald 2.1 m telescopes, and a visual+near-infrared spectrum taken with the Southern Astrophysical Research Telescope and Magellan telescopes, providing insights into the surface composition of this body. Our best fit suggests that the surface contains 60% of complex organics (30% of Titan and 30% of Triton tholins) with a significant fraction of ice (30%, including pure water and water with inclusions of complex organics) and 10% silicates. The models also suggest a low limit of amorphous carbons, and hence the fragmentation of long-chained complex organics is slower than their rate of generation. 2012 DR30 just recently passed the perihelion, and the long-term photometry of the object suggested ambiguous signs of activity, since the long-term photometric scatter well exceeded the supposed measurement errors and the expected brightness variation related to rotation. Photometric colors put 2012 DR30 exactly between dark neutral and red objects, thus it either can be in a transition phase between the two classes or have differing surface properties from these populated classes.© 2018. We present a detailed study of the early phases of the peculiar supernova 2011ay based on BVRI photometry obtained at Konkoly Observatory, Hungary, and optical spectra taken with the Hobby-Eberly Telescope at McDonald Observatory, Texas. The spectral analysis carried out with SYN++ and SYNAPPS confirms that SN 2011ay belongs to the recently defined class of SNe Iax, which is also supported by the properties of its light and color curves. The estimated photospheric temperature around maximum light, T_{phot} ~8,000 K, is lower than in most Type Ia SNe, which results in the appearance of strong Fe II features in the spectra of SN 2011ay, even during the early phases. We also show that strong blending with metal features (those of Ti II, Fe II, Co II) makes the direct analysis of the broad spectral features very difficult, and this may be true for all SNe Iax. We find two alternative spectrum models that both describe the observed spectra adequately, but their photospheric velocities differ by at least 3,000 km/s. The quasi-bolometric light curve of SN~2011ay has been assembled by integrating the UV-optical spectral energy distributions. Fitting a modified Arnett-model to L_{bol}(t), the moment of explosion and other physical parameters, i.e. the rise time to maximum, the ^{56}Ni mass and the total ejecta mass are estimated as t_{rise} ~14 +/-1 days, M_{Ni} ~0.22 +/- 0.01 M_{sol} and M_{ej} ~0.8 M_{sol}, respectively., Comment: 14 pages, 14 figures, 6 tables; accepted for publication in MNRAS

V582 Aur is an FU Ori-type young eruptive star in outburst since $\sim$1985. The eruption is currently in a relatively constant plateau phase, with photometric and spectroscopic variability superimposed. Here we will characterize the progenitor of the outbursting object, explore its environment, and analyse the temporal evolution of the eruption. We are particularly interested in the physical origin of the two deep photometric dips, one occurred in 2012, and one is ongoing since 2016. We collected archival photographic plates, and carried out new optical, infrared, and millimeter wave photometric and spectroscopic observations between 2010 and 2017, with high sampling rate during the current minimum. Beside analysing the color changes during fading, we compiled multiepoch spectral energy distributions, and fitted them with a simple accretion disk model. Based on pre-outburst data and a millimeter continuum measurement, we suggest that the progenitor of the V582 Aur outburst is a low-mass T Tauri star with average properties. The mass of an unresolved circumstellar structure, probably a disk, is 0.04 M$_{\odot}$. The optical and near-infrared spectra demonstrate the presence of hydrogen and metallic lines, show the CO bandhead in absorption, and exhibit a variable H$\alpha$ profile. The color variations strongly indicate that both the $\sim$1 year long brightness dip in 2012, and the current minimum since 2016 are caused by increased extinction along the line of sight. According to our accretion disk models, the reddening changed from $A_V$=4.5 mag to 12.5 mag, while the accretion rate remained practically constant. Similarly to the models of the UXor phenomenon of intermediate and low-mass young stars, orbiting disk structures could be responsible for the eclipses., Comment: 20 pages, 11 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

The optical observations of Ic-4 supernova (SN) 2016coi/ASASSN-16fp, from $\sim 2$ to $\sim450$ days after explosion, are presented along with analysis of its physical properties. The SN shows the broad lines associated with SNe Ic-3/4 but with a key difference. The early spectra display a strong absorption feature at $\sim 5400$ \AA\ which is not seen in other SNe~Ic-3/4 at this epoch. This feature has been attributed to He I in the literature. Spectral modelling of the SN in the early photospheric phase suggests the presence of residual He in a C/O dominated shell. However, the behaviour of the He I lines are unusual when compared with He-rich SNe, showing relatively low velocities and weakening rather than strengthening over time. The SN is found to rise to peak $\sim 16$ d after core-collapse reaching a bolometric luminosity of Lp $\sim 3\times10^{42}$ \ergs. Spectral models, including the nebular epoch, show that the SN ejected $2.5-4$ \msun\ of material, with $\sim 1.5$ \msun\ below 5000 \kms, and with a kinetic energy of $(4.5-7)\times10^{51}$ erg. The explosion synthesised $\sim 0.14$ \msun\ of 56Ni. There are significant uncertainties in E(B-V)host and the distance however, which will affect Lp and MNi. SN 2016coi exploded in a host similar to the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and away from star-forming regions. The properties of the SN and the host-galaxy suggest that the progenitor had $M_\mathrm{ZAMS}$ of $23-28$ \msun\ and was stripped almost entirely down to its C/O core at explosion., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS. An investigation of the 200 $\times$ 200 pixel 'superstamp' images of the centres of the open clusters NGC 6791 and NGC 6819 allows for the identification and study of many variable stars that were not included in the Kepler target list. KIC 2569073 (V=14.22), is a particularly interesting variable Ap star that we discovered in the NGC 6791 superstamp. With a rotational period of 14.67 days and 0.034-mag variability, it has one of the largest peak-to-peak variations of any known Ap star. Colour photometry reveals an anti-phase correlation between the $B$ band, and the $V$, $R$ and $I$ bands. This Ap star is a rotational variable, also known as an $\alpha^2$ CVn, star, and is one of only a handful of Ap stars observed by Kepler. We report the first results from our long-term observational survey aimed at discovering late-time interaction between the ejecta of hydrogen-poor Type I supernovae and the hydrogen-rich envelope expelled from the progenitor star several decades/centuries before explosion. The expelled envelope, moving with a velocity of ~10 -- 100 km s$^{-1}$, is expected to be caught up by the fast-moving SN ejecta several years/decades after explosion depending on the history of the mass-loss process acting in the progenitor star prior to explosion. The collision between the SN ejecta and the circumstellar envelope results in net emission in the Balmer-lines, especially in H-alpha. We look for signs of late-time H-alpha emission in older Type Ia/Ibc/IIb SNe having hydrogen-poor ejecta, via narrow-band imaging. Continuum-subtracted H-alpha emission has been detected for 13 point sources: 9 SN Ibc, 1 SN IIb and 3 SN Ia events. Thirty-eight SN sites were observed on at least two epochs, from which three objects (SN 1985F, SN 2005kl, SN 2012fh) showed significant temporal variation in the strength of their H-alpha emission in our DIAFI data. This suggests that the variable emission is probably not due to nearby H II regions unassociated with the SN, and hence is an important additional hint that ejecta-CSM interaction may take place in these systems. We present the K2 light curves of a large sample of untargeted Main Belt asteroids (MBAs) detected with the Kepler space telescope. The asteroids were observed within the Uranus superstamp, a relatively large, continuous field with low stellar background designed to cover the planet Uranus and its moons during Campaign 8 of the K2 mission. The superstamp offered the possibility to obtain precise, uninterrupted light curves of a large number of MBAs and thus to determine unambiguous rotation rates for them. We obtained photometry for 608 MBAs, and were able to determine or estimate rotation rates for 90 targets, of which 86 had no known values before. In an additional 16 targets we detected incomplete cycles and/or eclipse-like events. We found the median rotation rate to be significantly longer than that of the ground-based observations indicating that the latter are biased towards shorter rotation rates. In this paper we present visible range light curves of the irregular Uranian satellites Sycorax, Caliban, Prospero, Ferdinand and Setebos taken with Kepler Space Telescope in the course of the K2 mission. Thermal emission measurements obtained with the Herschel/PACS and Spitzer/MIPS instruments of Sycorax and Caliban were also analysed and used to determine size, albedo and surface characteristics of these bodies. We compare these properties with the rotational and surface characteristics of irregular satellites in other giant planet systems and also with those of main belt and Trojan asteroids and trans-Neptunian objects. Our results indicate that the Uranian irregular satellite system likely went through a more intense collisional evolution than the irregular satellites of Jupiter and Saturn. Surface characteristics of Uranian irregular satellites seems to resemble the Centaurs and trans-Neptunian objects more than irregular satellites around other giant planets, suggesting the existence of a compositional discontinuity in the young Solar system inside the orbit of Uranus., Accepted for publication in the Astronomical Journal

The nearby SN 2017eaw is a Type II-P (``plateau') supernova showing early-time, moderate CSM interaction. We present a comprehensive study of this SN including the analysis of high-quality optical photometry and spectroscopy covering the very early epochs up to the nebular phase, as well as near-UV and near-infrared spectra, and early-time X-ray and radio data. The combined data of SNe 2017eaw and 2004et allow us to get an improved distance to the host galaxy, NGC 6946, as $D \sim 6.85$ $\pm 0.63$ Mpc; this fits in recent independent results on the distance of the host and disfavors the previously derived (30% shorter) distances based on SN 2004et. From modeling the nebular spectra and the quasi-bolometric light curve, we estimate the progenitor mass and some basic physical parameters for the explosion and the ejecta. Our results agree well with previous reports on a RSG progenitor star with a mass of $\sim15-16$ M$_\odot$. Our estimation on the pre-explosion mass-loss rate ($\dot{M} \sim3 \times 10^{-7} -$ $1\times 10^{-6} M_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$) agrees well with previous results based on the opacity of the dust shell enshrouding the progenitor, but it is orders of magnitude lower than previous estimates based on general light-curve modeling of Type II-P SNe. Combining late-time optical and mid-infrared data, a clear excess at 4.5 $\mu$m can be seen, supporting the previous statements on the (moderate) dust formation in the vicinity of SN 2017eaw., Comment: 34 pages, 19 figures, 7 tables; accepted for publication in ApJ

SN 2013df is a nearby Type IIb supernova that seems to be the spectroscopic twin of the well-known SN 1993J. Previous studies revealed many, but not all interesting properties of this event. Our goal was to add new understanding of both the early and late-time phases of SN 2013df. Our spectral analysis is based on 6 optical spectra obtained with the 9.2m Hobby-Eberly Telescope during the first month after explosion, complemented by a near-infrared spectrum. We applied the SYNAPPS spectral synthesis code to constrain the chemical composition and physical properties of the ejecta. A principal result is the identification of "high-velocity" He I lines in the early spectra of SN 2013df, manifest as the blue component of the double-troughed profile at ~5650 A. This finding, together with the lack of clear separation of H and He lines in velocity space, indicates that both H and He features form at the outer envelope during the early phases. We also obtained ground-based BVRI and g'r'i'z' photometric data up to +45 days and unfiltered measurements with the ROTSE-IIIb telescope up to +168 days. From the modelling of the early-time quasi-bolometric light curve, we find $M_{ej} \sim 3.2-4.6 M_{\odot}$ and $E_{kin} \sim 2.6-2.8 \times 10^{51}$ erg for the initial ejecta mass and the initial kinetic energy, respectively, which agree well with the values derived from the separate modelling of the light-curve tail. In this paper we present an analysis of Kepler K2 mission Campaign 3 observations of the irregular Neptune satellite, Nereid. We determined a rotation period of P=11.594(+/-)0.017 h and amplitude of dm=0.0328(+/-)00018, confirming previous short rotation periods obtained in ground based observations. The similarities of light curve amplitudes between 2001 and 2015 show that Nereid is in a low-amplitude rotation state nowadays and it could have been in a high-amplitude rotation state in the mid 1960's. Another high-amplitude period is expected in about 30 years. Based on the light curve amplitudes observed in the last 15 years we could constrain the shape of Nereid and obtained a maximum a:c axis ratio of 1.3:1. This excludes the previously suggested very elongated shape of a:c=1.9:1 and clearly shows that Nereid's spin axis cannot be in forced precession due to tidal forces. Thermal emission data from the Spitzer Space Telescope and the Herschel Space Observatory indicate that Nereid's shape is actually close to the a:c axis ratio limit of 1.3:1 we obtained, and it has a very rough, highly cratered surface, Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

HBC 722 (V2493 Cyg) is a young eruptive star in outburst since 2010. It is an FU Orionis-type object with an atypically low outburst luminosity. Because it was well characterized in the pre-outburst phase, HBC 722 is one of the few FUors where we can learn about the physical changes and processes associated with the eruption. We monitored the source in the BVRIJHKs bands from the ground, and at 3.6 and 4.5 $\mu$m from space with the Spitzer Space Telescope. We analyzed the light curves and the spectral energy distribution by fitting a series of steady accretion disk models at many epochs. We also analyzed the spectral properties of the source based on new optical and infrared spectra. We also mapped HBC 722 and its surroundings at millimeter wavelengths. From the light curve analysis we concluded that the first peak of the outburst in 2010 September was due to an abrupt increase of the accretion rate in the innermost part of the system. This was followed by a long term process, when the brightening was mainly due to a gradual increase of the accretion rate and the emitting area. Our new observations show that the source is currently in a constant plateau phase. We found that around the peak the continuum was bluer and the H$\alpha$ profile changed significantly between 2012 and 2013. The source was not detected in the millimeter continuum, but we discovered a flattened molecular gas structure with a diameter of 1700 au and mass of 0.3 M$_{\odot}$ centered on HBC 722. While the first brightness peak could be interpreted as a rapid fall of piled-up material from the inner disk onto the star, the later monotonic flux rise suggests the outward expansion of a hot component according to the theory of Bell & Lin (1994). Our study of HBC 722 demonstrated that accretion-related outbursts can occur in young stellar objects even with very low mass disks, in the late Class II phase., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, 3 online tables. Remote investigations of the ancient solar system matter has been traditionally carried out through the observations of long-period (LP) comets that are less affected by solar irradiation than the short-period counterparts orbiting much closer to the Sun. Here we summarize the results of our decade-long survey of the distant activity of LP comets. We found that the most important separation in the dataset is based on the dynamical nature of the objects. Dynamically new comets are characterized by a higher level of activity on average: the most active new comets in our sample can be characterized by afrho values >3--4 higher than that of our most active returning comets. New comets develop more symmetric comae, suggesting a generally isotropic outflow. Contrary to this, the coma of recurrent comets can be less symmetrical, ocassionally exhibiting negative slope parameters, suggesting sudden variations in matter production. The morphological appearance of the observed comets is rather diverse. A surprisingly large fraction of the comets have long, teniouos tails, but the presence of impressive tails does not show a clear correlation with the brightness of the comets., 21 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in AJ

Due to the failure of the second reaction wheel, a new mission was conceived for the otherwise healthy Kepler space telescope. In the course of the K2 Mission, the telescope is staring at the plane of the Ecliptic, hence thousands of Solar System bodies cross the K2 fields, usually causing extra noise in the highly accurate photometric data. In this paper we follow the someone's noise is another one's signal principle and investigate the possibility of deriving continuous asteroid light curves, that has been unprecedented to date. In general, we are interested in the photometric precision that the K2 Mission can deliver on moving Solar System bodies. In particular, we investigate space photometric optical light curves of main-belt asteroids. We study the K2 superstamps covering the M35 and Neptune/Nereid fields observed in the long cadence (29.4-min sampling) mode. Asteroid light curves are generated by applying elongated apertures. We use the Lomb-Scargle method to find periodicities due to rotation. We derived K2 light curves of 924 main-belt asteroids in the M35 field, and 96 in the path of Neptune and Nereid. The light curves are quasi-continuous and several days long. K2 observations are sensitive to longer rotational periods than usual ground-based surveys. Rotational periods are derived for 26 main-belt asteroids for the first time. The asteroid sample is dominated by faint (>20 mag) objects. Due to the faintness of the asteroids and the high density of stars in the M35 field, only 4.0% of the asteroids with at least 12 data points show clear periodicities or trend signalling a long rotational period, as opposed to 15.9% in the less crowded Neptune field. M31N 2015-01a (or M31LRN 2015) is a red nova that erupted in January 2015 -- the first event of this kind observed in M31 since 1988. Very few similar events have been confirmed as of 2015. Most of them are considered to be products of stellar mergers. Results of an extensive optical monitoring of the transient in the period January-March 2015 are presented. Eight optical telescopes were used for imaging. Spectra were obtained on BTA, GTC and the Rozhen 2m telescope. We present a highly accurate 70 d lightcurve and astrometry with a 0.05" uncertainty. The color indices reached a minimum 2-3 d before peak brightness and rapidly increased afterwards. The spectral type changed from F5I to F0I in 6 d before the maximum and then to K3I in the next 30 d. The luminosity of the transient was estimated to $8.7^{+3.3}_{-2.2}\times10^{5}L_{\odot}$ during the optical maximum. We report the discovery of a new totally-eclipsing binary (RA=06:40:29.11; Dec=+38:56:52.2; J=2000.0; Rmax=17.2 mag) with an sdO primary and a strongly irradiated red dwarf companion. It has an orbital period of Porb=0.187284394(11) d and an optical eclipse depth in excess of 5 magnitudes. We obtained two low-resolution classification spectra with GTC/OSIRIS and ten medium-resolution spectra with WHT/ISIS to constrain the properties of the binary members. The spectra are dominated by H Balmer and He II absorption lines from the sdO star, and phase-dependent emission lines from the irradiated companion. A combined spectroscopic and light curve analysis implies a hot subdwarf temperature of Teff(spec) = 55 000 +/- 3000K, surface gravity of log g(phot) = 6.2 +/- 0.04 (cgs) and a He abundance of log(nHe/nH) = -2.24 +/- 0.40. The hot sdO star irradiates the red-dwarf companion, heating its substellar point to about 22 500K. Surface parameters for the companion are difficult to constrain from the currently available data: the most remarkable features are the strong H Balmer and C II-III lines in emission. Radial velocity estimates are consistent with the sdO+dM classification. The photometric data do not show any indication of sdO pulsations with amplitudes greater than 7mmag, and Halpha-filter images do not provide evidence of the presence of a planetary nebula associated with the sdO star., 13 pages, 5 figures; accepted for publication in ApJ

The overtone and multi-mode RR Lyrae stars in the globular cluster M3 are studied using a 200-d long, $B,V$ and $I_{\mathrm C}$ time-series photometry obtained in 2012. 70\% of the 52 overtone variables observed show some kind of multi-periodicity (additional frequency at ${f_{0.61}}={f_{\mathrm {1O}}}/0.61$ frequency ratio, Blazhko effect, double/multi-mode pulsation, period doubling). A signal at 0.587 frequency ratio to the fundamental-mode frequency is detected in the double-mode star, V13, which may be identified as the second radial overtone mode. If this mode-identification is correct, than V13 is the first RR Lyrae star showing triple-mode pulsation of the first three radial modes. Either the Blazhko effect or the ${f_{0.61}}$ frequency (or both of these phenomena) appear in 7 double-mode stars. The $P_{\mathrm{1O}}/P_{\mathrm{F}}$ period ratio of RRd stars showing the Blazhko effect are anomalous. A displacement of the main frequency component at the fundamental-mode with the value of modulation frequency (or its half) is detected in three Blazhko RRd stars parallel with the appearance of the overtone-mode pulsation. The ${f_{0.61}}$ frequency appears in RRc stars that lie at the blue side of the double-mode region and in RRd stars, raising the suspicion that its occurrence may be connected to double-mode pulsation. We present the first photometric observations of trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) taken with the Kepler space telescope, obtained in the course of the K2 ecliptic survey. Two faint objects have been monitored in specifically designed pixel masks that were centered on the stationary points of the objects, when their daily motion was the slowest. In the design of the experiment, only the apparent path of these objects were retrieved from the detectors, i.e. the costs in terms of Kepler pixels were minimized. Because of the faintness of the targets we employ specific reduction techniques and co-added images. We measure rotational periods and amplitudes in the unfiltered Kepler band as follows: for (278361) 2007 JJ43 and 2002 GV31 we get P_rot=12.097 h and P_rot=29.2 h while 0.10 and 0.35 mag for the total amplitudes, respectively. Future space missions, like TESS and PLATO are not well suited to this kind of observations. Therefore, we encourage to include the brightest TNOs around their stationary points in each observing campaign to exploit this unique capability of the K2 Mission -- and therefore to provide unbiased rotational, shape and albedo characteristics of many objects., Accepted for publication in ApJ Letters, 5.2 pages in emulateapj style, misspelled 2007 JJ43 designation corrected

We present extensive optical ($UBVRI$, $g'r'i'z'$, and open CCD) and near-infrared ($ZYJH$) photometry for the very nearby Type IIP SN ~2013ej extending from +1 to +461 days after shock breakout, estimated to be MJD $56496.9\pm0.3$. Substantial time series ultraviolet and optical spectroscopy obtained from +8 to +135 days are also presented. Considering well-observed SNe IIP from the literature, we derive $UBVRIJHK$ bolometric calibrations from $UBVRI$ and unfiltered measurements that potentially reach 2\% precision with a $B-V$ color-dependent correction. We observe moderately strong Si II $\lambda6355$ as early as +8 days. The photospheric velocity ($v_{\rm ph}$) is determined by modeling the spectra in the vicinity of Fe II $\lambda5169$ whenever observed, and interpolating at photometric epochs based on a semianalytic method. This gives $v_{\rm ph} = 4500\pm500$ km s$^{-1}$ at +50 days. We also observe spectral homogeneity of ultraviolet spectra at +10--12 days for SNe IIP, while variations are evident a week after explosion. Using the expanding photosphere method, from combined analysis of SN 2013ej and SN 2002ap, we estimate the distance to the host galaxy to be $9.0_{-0.6}^{+0.4}$ Mpc, consistent with distance estimates from other methods. Photometric and spectroscopic analysis during the plateau phase, which we estimated to be $94\pm7$ days long, yields an explosion energy of $0.9\pm0.3\times10^{51}$ ergs, a final pre-explosion progenitor mass of $15.2\pm4.2$~M$_\odot$ and a radius of $250\pm70$~R$_\odot$. We observe a broken exponential profile beyond +120 days, with a break point at +$183\pm16$ days. We present the first CCD photometric observations of the northern open cluster NGC 2126 in the constellation Auriga. Johnson-Cousins V(RI)C data (with a total time span of ∼57 hours) were taken on eight nights in 2002 February and December at the Piszkestető Station of the Konkoly Observatory, using the 60/90/180-cm Schmidt telescope. We have discovered six new variable stars and have estimated the main characteristics of the cluster. The results of the project can be summarized as follows. Cluster parameters were estimated by fitting isochrones (Bertelli et al. 1994) to the colour-magnitude diagrams. In order to decrease foreground contamination, we have examined the proper motion distribution of stars in the field using data taken from the USNO B-1.0 catalogue (the cluster itself has undetected proper motion). To minimize the effects of background stars, we used only the inner 8 of the cluster. The resulting physical parameters are: m − M = 11. m0 ± 0. m5, E(B − V ) = 0. m2± 0. m15, d = 1.3± 0.6kpc. Of the six variables, V1 and V2 showed clear variability, however, our dataset is too short to determine types or periods. V3 and V5 showed rapid oscillations with full amplitudes of a few tens of mmag. The periods and period ratios (V3: f1/f2 = 0.81, V5: f1/f2 = 0.94) suggest low-order radial overtone (V3) and non-radial (V5) δ Scuti-type pulsations for the two stars. We also discovered an Algol-type eclipse for V4. The most interesting variable star is V6. We observed well-defined minima and steady oscillations outside eclipses with amplitude and cycle length characteristic of δ Sct pulsation. With these properties V6 seems to be an eclipsing binary with at least one pulsating component. The period analysis resulted in Porb = 1.17320(3) d. The oscillations outside eclipses seemed to be stable, with a period of Ppul = 0.12936(24) d. An interesting result is that Porb/Ppul = 9.07±0.02, suggesting that there might be a 1:9 resonance between the orbital motion and pulsation. A low-resolution optical spectrum is consistent with an F-type star, so that the oscillations may be attributed to δ Sct pulsation. From the astrometric study its cluster membership can be excluded; it is a foreground object.

We present the first CCD photometric observations of the northern open cluster NGC 2126. Data were taken on eight nights in February and December 2002 with a total time span of ~57 hours. Almost 1000 individual V-band frames were examined to find short-period variable stars. We discovered six new variable stars, of which one is a promising candidate for an eclipsing binary with a pulsating component. Two stars were classified as delta Scuti stars and one as Algol-type eclipsing binary. Two stars are slow variables with ambiguous classification. From absolute VRI photometry we have estimated the main characteristics of the cluster: m-M=11.0+/-0.5, E(V-I)=0.4+/-0.1, E(V-R)=0.08+/-0.06 (E(B-V)=0.2+/-0.15) and d=1.3+/-0.6 kpc. VRI photometry of the type Ia supernova 2002bo is presented. This SN exploded in a dusty region of the host galaxy NGC 3190, thus, subtraction of a template frame was necessary to obtain reliable photometry. We used a template frame of NGC 3190 taken during the course of our galaxy imaging project, fortunately, just a few days before SN 2002bo was discovered. The aim of this project is to collect template frames of nearby galaxies that are potential hosts of bright SNe. Subtraction of pre-SN images helped us to exclude the background light contamination of the host galaxy. The maximum occurred at JD 2452346, with maximal V brightness of 13.58. MLCS analysis led to T0(B)=JD 2452346.1 pm 0.8 (fiducial B-maximum), E(B-V)=0.24 pm 0.02, mu0=32.46 pm 0.06, Delta=-0.14 pm 0.04. E(B-V)=0.24(2) indicates a significant extinction in the host galaxy as the galactic reddening is negligible toward NGC 3190. The accepted value of Delta indicates that SN 2002bo was a slightly overluminous SN by about 0.14 relative to fiducial SN Type Ia. The distance turned out to be 31.0 pm 3 Mpc. In addition, the heavily obscured SN 2002cv was also detected on the I frame taken on JD 2452434 (June 8, 2002), and a variable star is found in the field, very close to the host galaxy., Comment: accepted by Astronomy and Astrophysics
