This research paper offers an analysis of model scales for operational technologies (OT) cyber ranges, focusing on applications like airports, smart buildings, and factories within constrained spaces. We evaluate seven standard modeling scales (G-scale to Z-scale) against criteria such as space occupation, technology integration, prop availability, transportability, realism, durability, and maintenance. Our quantitative assessment identifies the most appropriate scale for cyber-range physical polygons, balancing model size with functionality and practicality. This work provides valuable insights for creating realistic and effective cyber-physical training environments in OT cybersecurity.

This paper presents a comprehensive investigation of machine learning-based intrusion detection methods to reveal cyber attacks in railway axle counting networks. In contrast to the state-of-the-art works, our experimental results are validated with testbed-based real-world axle counting components. Furthermore, we aimed to detect targeted attacks on axle counting systems, which have higher impacts than conventional network attacks. W present a comprehensive investigation of machine learning-based intrusion detection methods to reveal cyber attacks in railway axle counting networks. According to our findings, the proposed machine learning-based models were able to categorize six different network states (normal and under attack). The overall accuracy of the initial models was ca. 70–100% for the test data set in laboratory conditions. In operational conditions, the accuracy decreased to under 50%. To increase the accuracy, we introduce a novel input data-preprocessing method with the denoted gamma parameter. This increased the accuracy of the deep neural network model to 69.52% for six labels, 85.11% for five labels, and 92.02% for two labels. The gamma parameter also removed the dependence on the time series, enabled relevant classification of data in the real network, and increased the accuracy of the model in real operations. This parameter is influenced by simulated attacks and, thus, allows the classification of traffic into specified classes.

The low-power wide-area (LPWA) technologies, which enable cost and energy-efficient wireless connectivity for massive deployments of autonomous machines, have enabled and boosted the development of many new Internet of things (IoT) applications; however, the security of LPWA technologies in general, and specifically those operating in the license-free frequency bands, have received somewhat limited attention so far. This paper focuses specifically on the security and privacy aspects of one of the most popular license-free-band LPWA technologies, which is named LoRaWAN. The paper’s key contributions are the details of the design and experimental validation of a security-focused testbed, based on the combination of software-defined radio (SDR) and GNU Radio software with a standalone LoRaWAN transceiver. By implementing the two practical man-in-the-middle attacks (i.e., the replay and bit-flipping attacks through intercepting the over-the-air activation procedure by an external to the network attacker device), we demonstrate that the developed testbed enables practical experiments for on-air security in real-life conditions. This makes the designed testbed perspective for validating the novel security solutions and approaches and draws attention to some of the relevant security challenges extant in LoRaWAN.

In today’s world, the volume of cyber attacks grows every year. These attacks can cause many people or companies high financial losses or loss of private data. One of the most common types of attack on the Internet is a DoS (denial-of-service) attack, which, despite its simplicity, can cause catastrophic consequences. A slow DoS attack attempts to make the Internet service unavailable to users. Due to the small data flows, these attacks are very similar to legitimate users with a slow Internet connection. Accurate detection of these attacks is one of the biggest challenges in cybersecurity. In this paper, we implemented our proposal of eleven major and most dangerous slow DoS attacks and introduced an advanced attack generator for testing vulnerabilities of protocols, servers, and services. The main motivation for this research was the absence of a similarly comprehensive generator for testing slow DoS vulnerabilities in network systems. We built an experimental environment for testing our generator, and then we performed a security analysis of the five most used web servers. Based on the discovered vulnerabilities, we also discuss preventive and detection techniques to mitigate the attacks. In future research, our generator can be used for testing slow DoS security vulnerabilities and increasing the level of cyber security of various network systems.

Bakalářská práce se zabývá návrhem, vývojem a implementací webové platformy pro podporu penetračního testování. Práce se v teoretické části věnuje popisu penetračního testování a způsobu hodnocení závažnosti zranitelností. Dále jsou popsány jednotlivé technologie, které byly použity při vývoji výsledného řešení. V praktické části následuje popis postupného řešení dílčích požadavků webové platformy. Jednotlivé kapitoly shrnují problematiku, návrh a implementaci vlastního řešení. Nejprve je popsán návrh vysoce škálovatelného modelu, kterým je řešena hlavní problematika zadání práce. Následuje návrh platformy, její zasazení do navrženého modelu a vývoj modulární webové aplikace. Dále je popsán vlastní vývoj aplikační části, její propojení s relační databází, nástroji pro automatizované penetrační testování a generátorem reportu. Závěrem je popsáno testování výsledného řešení v produkčním prostředí a srovnání relevantních nástrojů pro správu a realizaci penetračního testování. Výsledkem této práce je webová platforma, jejímž hlavním účelem je zvýšit efekt penetračního testování do takové míry, že časová náročnost, složitost a práce nutná k úspěšnému dokončení celého testu bude značně nižší než při použití současných relevantních dostupných nástrojů., The bachelor thesis deals with the design, development, and implementation of a web platform to support penetration testing. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to the description of penetration testing and vulnerability severity assessment. Next, the technologies used in the development of the final solution are described. The practical part describes the gradual solution of partial requirements of the web platform. The individual chapters summarize the problem, design, and implementation of the solution. The practical part starts with the design of a highly scalable model that addresses the main problem of the assignment of this thesis. Next, the design of the platform, its embedding in the proposed model, and the development of a modular web application. Furthermore, the actual development of the application part is described, specifically, its connection with the relational database, tools for automated penetration testing, and the report generator. In the next chapter, the testing of the platform in a production environment is described. The last chapter compares relevant tools for penetration testing. The result of the work is a web platform with the main purpose of increasing the effect of penetration testing to such an extent that the time, complexity, and work required to successfully complete the entire test will be considerably lower than using currently relevant available tools.

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá vytvořením aplikace pro znázornění struktury testovaného prostředí. V teoretické části jsou popsány nástroje, s kterými se v praktické části pracuje, je to zejména programovací jazyk JavaScript, framework Vue.js a penetrační testování obecně. V praktické části jsou prezentovány výsledky testování topologie sítě, která byla prováděna nástrojem Nmap. Cílem praktické části je vytvořit aplikaci, která bude uživateli srozumitelně demonstrovat výsledky testování, This bachelor work deals with the creation of an application for the representation of the structures of the tested environment. The theoretical part describes the tools that are processed in the practical part, they are mainly the JavaScript programming language, Vue.js framework and penetration testing in general. The practical part presents the results of network topology testing was performed by Nmap tool. The aim of the practical part is to create an application that will clearly explain the results of testing to the user.

Průmyslové sítě jsou častým terčem útoků sloužícím k poškožení výroby a narušení kritické infrastruktury v dnešní době. Ty je nutné zachytit a umět na ně správně reagovat. Právě proto je nutné se zabývat problematikou od samého počátku po konečný prvek. Tím se má na mysli prevence před možnými útoky a předpoklady pro předcházení takovým útokům na komunikaci v síti. Aby bylo možné odhalit potenciální slabiny, je třeba provést analýzy a simulace komunikace. Toho je možné dosáhnout pomocí softwarů k tomu určených. Takto se vytvořily dva programy určené k simulaci průmyslového scénáře a analýza protokolu S7. Data takové komunikace byly analyzovány a následně rozebrány., Industrial network is frequent target of attacks used to damage production and disrupt today infrasctructure. It is necessary to capture such attacks and be able to react correctly to them. That is the reason, why it is necessary to deal with the problematics from the very beginning to the final element. Meaning of this is a prevention of possible attacks and the prerequisite for preventing such attacks on network communication. In order to detect potential weaknesses, communication analyzes and simulations need to be performed. This can be achieved using sofware designed specificly for such situations. Thus two programs were created to simulate the industrial scenario and analyze the S7 protocol. The data received from this communication were analyzed and subsequently scrutinized.

Bakalářská práce se zabývá bezpečností operačních systémů, na kterou je kladen stále větší důraz. Nejprve je věnována pozornost na základní zásady bezpečnosti operačních systémů. Dále jsou čtenáři přiblíženy jednotlivé prvky, které napomáhají tvořit komunikaci na internetu bezpečnou. V třetí kapitole jsou rozebrány z pohledu bezpečnosti nejpoužívanější operační systémy a popsány jejich nejběžnější zranitelnosti. Další kapitola se věnuje jednotlivým scénářům, ve kterých je definováno, jak vhodně nastavit jednotlivé prvky systému, tak aby byl operační systém bezpečný a také jsou použity aplikace, které slouží ke zvýšení bezpečnosti systému. Bezpečnostní scénáře jsou vytvořeny pro osobní počítat, server a webový server. V páté kapitole jsou jednotlivé scénáře aplikovány na stroje, které jsou virtualizovány. K otestování zvoleného zabezpečení byly jednotlivé stroje vystaveny penetračnímu testování. Poté je rozebráno, jak jednotlivé prvky systémů reagovaly a zaznamenaly probíhající penetrační testování. Posléze je provedeno vyhodnocení zvoleného zabezpečení a je doporučen další postup. Tato bakalářská práce si klade za cíl seznámit čtenáře s problematikou bezpečnosti operačních systémů a důležitostí implementace bezpečnostních opatření., This bachelor thesis is focused on security of operating systems, which is more and more important. At first, basics of security of operating systems will be covered, followed by describing elements, which help secure communication on internet. In the third chapter, there are discussed the most using operating systems in terms of security and mentioned their most common weaknesses. Following chapter talks about scenarios in which is defined how to properly set each part of the system, so it is secure; also, security applications that make operating system more secure are mentioned. In fifth chapter are above mentioned scenarios applied to virtual machines. To test chosen security settings were individual machines exposed to penetration test. Afterwards, the chosen security settings are evaluated and further steps are recommended. The goal of this thesis is to apprise with problems of security of operating systems and the importance of implementation of security measures.

Práce se zabývá návrhem a realizací automatizovaného řízení vytápění rodinného domu. Systém je založen na programovatelných jednotkách, jejichž základními prvky jsou zařízení, která jsou založena na programovatelných čipech ESP32 nebo ESP8266. Hlavní částí je návrh systému a realizace jednotlivých jeho částí jako je webová aplikace a jednotlivé senzory. Dále se práce zabývá komunikací mezi jednotlivými částmi, jejím rozborem a analýzou výdrže akumulátorů jednotlivých zařízení. Poslední kapitolu tvoří návod k instalaci a spuštění celého systému., The thesis deals with the design and implementation of automated control of family house heating. The system is based on programmable units whose basic elements are devices based on ESP32 or ESP8266 programmable chips. The main part is the design of the system and the implementation of its individual parts such as the web application and individual sensors. Furthermore, the thesis deals with the communication between the individual parts, its analysis and the analysis of the battery life of the individual devices. The last chapter consists of instructions for installation and start-up of the whole system.
