U radu je opisana industrija videoigara kao jedna od najbrže rastućih grana kreativne industrije u današnjem svijetu s obzirom na popularnost videoigara i gospodarski rast na svjetskom tržištu. Rast industrije najbolje pokazuju podaci koji obuhvaćaju svjetsku zaradu u milijardama dolara i broj igrača koji doseže milijunske brojke u cijelom svijetu. Opisana je povijest industrije videoigara od samih početaka do danas, kako se razvijala i koji su faktori najbitniji za uspjeh i proboj na svjetsko tržište. Detaljno su izneseni prihodi i očekivana stopa rasta do 2021. godine. Izdvojene su dvije velike tvrtke za proizvodnju igara - Electronic Arts i Blizzard Entertainment te njihova uloga u industriji videoigara. Nadalje, opisuje se situacija industrije videoigara u Hrvatskoj, koji su pozitivni i negativni čimbenici u njezinom rastu u gaming industriji i koje prilike im se nude. U radu je opisan novi oblik sporta, tzv. eSport, kako je on prihvaćen u svijetu i koliko gledatelja i prihoda je ostvario u 2021. godini. Navodi se i pojam ilegalnog preuzimanja videoigara i kakav utjecaj ima na industriju videoigara. Za kraj je provedeno anketno istraživanje o preferencijama igrača videoigara na području Republike Hrvatske. The paper describes the video game industry as one of the fastest growing branches of the creative industry in today's world given the popularity of video games and economic growth in the world market. The growth of the industry is best shown by data covering world billions of dollars and the number of players reaching millions in the world. It describes the history of the video game industry from the very beginning to the present day and how it developed and what factors are most important for success and breakthrough in the world market. Revenues and the expected growth rate until 2021 are detailed, and two large game companies Electronic arts and Blizzard Entertainment and their role in the video game industry have been singled out. Furthermore, it describes the situation of the video game industry in Croatia and what are the positive and negative factors in its growth in the gaming industry and what opportunities are offered to them, and finally a new form of sport, the so-called. eSport and how it is accepted in the world and how many viewers and revenue it has generated in 2021. It also describes the concept of illegal video game downloads and what impact it has on the video game industry. Finally, a survey was conducted on the preferences of video game players in the Republic of Croatia.
