E-cigarettes emerged in the early 21st century as a safer health alternative to conventional cigarettes. E-cigarettes use e-liquids based on glycerine and propylene glycol. This results in smaller amounts of toxic substances in the aerosol they produce compared to traditional cigarettes. The rather short existence of such replacements does not make it clear whether they are actually better for smokers’ health. The increasing number and younger age of smokers has prompted researchers to expand their research on the subject. A review of literature has shown that e-cigarettes affect many biochemical mechanisms, affecting the health of their users. They cause oxidative stress and, consequently, a cytotoxic effect; an increase in the production of mucins, taking part in lung diseases; affect the formation of DNA damage, carcinogenesis, sensitivity to chemotherapy, inflammatory response and disrupt cytokine levels in tissues. In addition, they cause thinning of the laryngeal mucosa, autophagy of middle ear epithelial cells, apoptosis of gingival fibroblasts, weakening of the tooth attachment apparatus and promote dental caries. It will take some time to test the theory of whether ecigarettes are a healthier substitute for classic cigarettes, but based on current knowledge, one should be aware that these substances can cause adverse health effects. Background: Cannabis, more commonly known as marijuana or hemp, has been used for centuries to treat various conditions. Cannabis contains two main components cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD, unlike THC, is devoid of psychoactive effects and is well tolerated by the human body but has no direct effect on the receptors of the endocannabid system, despite the lack of action on the receptors of the endocannabid system. Objectives and methods: We have prepared a literature review based on the latest available literature regarding the analgesic effects of CBD. CBD has a wide range of effects on the human body. In this study, we will present the potential mechanisms responsible for the analgesic effect of CBD. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first review to explore the analgesic mechanisms of CBD. Results and conclusion: The analgesic effect of CBD is complex and still being researched. CBD models the perception of pain by acting on G protein‐coupled receptors. Another group of receptors that CBD acts on are serotonergic receptors. The effect of CBD on an enzyme of potential importance in the production of inflammatory factors such as cyclooxygenases and lipoxygenases has also been confirmed. The presented potential mechanisms of CBD's analgesic effect are currently being extensively studied. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CARPAL tunnel syndrome ,MEDIAN nerve injuries ,MOTOR ability ,HEALTH risk assessment ,OVARIAN surgery - Abstract
Introduction and Objective. Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common condition characterized by the compression of the median nerve in the wrist. Left untreated, it leads to significant discomfort and loss of motor function in the hand. The aim of this systematic review is to identify and evaluate recent research on risk factors associated with CTS. Review Methods. A systematic search of the PubMed/MEDLINE database was conducted, focusing on studies published within the last 5 years. The search strategy used relevant key words related to CTS and risk factors. Studies were included if they provided information on risk factors associated with CTS in the adult population. Review articles, systematic reviews and meta-analyses were excluded. Brief description of the state of knowledge. Risk factors for CTS include repetitive hand movements in occupations that require typing, certain anatomical and physiological characteristics (e.g., smaller carpal tunnel size), age (risk increases with age), gender (higher risk in women), pregnancy, medical conditions (e.g., obesity, diabetes, arthritis, metabolic syndrome), and previous trauma or injury to the wrist. On-going research continues to shed light on the subject. Summary. The systematic review found that physical labour, working in pain, and certain co-morbidities were strongly associated with an increased risk of developing CTS. Occupations such as grocery store workers, hairdressers, telephone operators and manual labourers (blue-collar workers) showed a significant association with the development of CTS, compared to the general population. Further studies are needed to investigate the potential impact of bilateral ovarian resection and alcohol consumption as risk factors. These findings underscore the importance of considering occupational factors and co-morbidities when assessing the risk of CTS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Słowa kluczowe: urazowe uszkodzenie mózgu, epidemiologia, skala, rokowanie Abstract Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is not just one disease, but includes a wide spectrum alteration in brain function, or other evidence of brain pathology caused by external force. TBI is often referred to as "the silent epidemic". In Europe, it is estimated approximately 2,5 milion people suffer from some form of TBI. The pathological mechanism of TBI is divided into two phases: primary and secondary brain injury. There are various scales to assess victims after injuries, in case of head injuries the most important is Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). The most common scale used to evaluate the results of treatment of patients after TBI is Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS). The prognosis after TBI is generally unfavorable, there are a few factors which can try to assess outcomes or there are two prognostic calculators available on the Internet. Key words: traumatic brain injury, epidemiology, scale, outcome

Abstract Subdural hematoma (SDH) could be an acute state required rapid neurosurgical decompression, could also represent chronic form; both develop after head trauma as well. Long term influence on a quality of life depend on many factors. Researchers put a lot of effort to find those which play most predictive role. Key words: Subdural hematoma, bleeding. Słowa kluczowe: Krwiak podtwardówkowy, krwawienie.

BRAIN metastasis ,METASTASIS ,CENTRAL nervous system ,RADIOTHERAPY ,HEMIPARESIS - Abstract
Brain metastases (BM) represent the most common tumours of the central nervous system with ranged between 2.8 and 14.3 per 100.000. Despite advances in the diagnosis and treatment of brain metastases, such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy only 2.4% of patients will survive 5 years. BM causes a wide spectrum of neurological symptoms, such as hemiparesis, impaired coordination or walking, aphasia, and seizures. Despite the effective treatment of the primary tumor, in many cases, it does not protect against brain metastases. The main source of BMs in adults is, in descending order, non-small cell lung cancer, followed by breast cancer and melanoma and then renal cancer. Some malignancies particularly tend to produce "late" or "delayed" cerebral metastasis years or even decades after the anti-cancer treatment has been accomplished. There is still a need to develop more effective treatments for cancer and metastases to the brain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
