The protein RanBP2, which binds to the nuclear G protein Ran/TC4, contains 3,224 residues and is comprised of a leucine-rich amino-terminal region, four domains homologous to RanBP1, eight zinc-finger motifs and a carboxy terminus similar to cyclophilin. Studies show that RanBP2 is a part of the nuclear pore complex and is probably present on both sides of the pore. Ran/TC4 is necessary for the import of proteins containing NLS.

In addition to buildings, the terrain forms an important part of a 3D city model. Although in GIS terrains are usually represented with 2D grids, TINs are also increasingly being used in practice. One example is 3DTOP10NL, the 3D city model covering the whole of the Netherlands, which stores the relief with a constrained TIN containing more than 1 billion triangles. Due to the massive size of such datasets, the main problem that arises is: how to efficiently store and maintain them? While CityGML supports the storage of TINs, we argue in this paper that the current solution is not adequate. For instance, the 1 billion+ triangles of 3DTOP10NL require 686 GB of storage space with CityGML. Furthermore, the current solution does not store the topological relationships of the triangles, and also there are no clear mechanisms to handle several LODs. We propose in this paper a CityGML extension for the compact representation of terrains. We describe our abstract and implementation specifications (modelled in UML), and our prototype implementation to convert TINs to our CityGML structure. It increases the topological relationships that are explicitly represented, and allows us to compress up to a factor of ~25 in our experiments with massive real-world terrains (more than 1 billion triangles). We conducted a shipboard observation over the Chukchi Sea and the Canada Basin in the western Arctic Ocean in September and October 2012 to obtain vertical distributions of four volatile organic iodine compounds (VOIs) in seawater. VOIs are believed to play a role in ozone destruction in the troposphere and lower stratosphere. The VOIs observed in this study were iodomethane (CH3I), iodoethane (C2H5I), diiodomethane (CH2I2) and chloroiodomethane (CH2ClI). Maximum concentrations of the four VOIs were found in the bottom layer water over the Chukchi Sea shelf, in which layer the maximum concentration of ammonium (NH4+) also occurred. A significant correlation was observed between C2H5I and NH4+ (correlate coefficient R = 0.93) and between CH3I and NH4+ (R = 0.77), suggesting production of these VOIs increased with degradation of organic matter. Over the northern Chukchi Sea shelf-slope area, concentration maxima of CH2I2, CH2ClI, and CH3I were found in the subsurface cold, dense water (CDW). A large nitrogen deficit (N-deficit = NH4+ + NO3- + NO2- - 16PO43-) simultaneously occurred in this water, suggesting production of the three VOIs in the sediment or the bottom layer water over the shelf, probably in association with degradation of organic matter. We conclude that VOI production over the Chukchi Sea shelf can be largely attributed to the degradation of organic matter that is produced in the highly productive shelf water. High concentrations of CH2ClI were also found in the Alaskan Coastal Water (ACW) from the Bering Strait to the surface of the northern Chukchi slope. The VOIs that originated at the Chukchi Sea shelf are expected to be laterally transported to the Arctic Ocean Basin though the subsurface CDW and the surface ACW. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To determine the association between HLA class II genes and methimazole-induced agranulocytosis in patients with Graves disease.Design: Case-control study.Setting: Kuma Hospital, which specializes in thyroid diseases, in Kobe, Japan.Subjects: 24 patients with Graves disease who had methimazole-induced agranulocytosis diagnosed by peripheral granulocyte counts of less than 0.5 x 10(9)/L, and 68 patients with Graves disease treated with methimazole, who were free from agranulocytosis. Controls were 525 healthy, unrelated Japanese student volunteers at Kyushu University in Japan.Measurements: All HLA class II genes were analyzed for polymorphisms at the DNA level by using the polymerase chain reaction sequence-specific oligonucleotide probes method. The allele frequencies in the agranulocytotic Graves disease group were compared with those in the nonagranulocytotic Graves disease and control groups.Results: A strong positive association was seen in DRB1*08032 between the agranulocytotic group and both the control and nonagranulocytotic Graves disease groups.Conclusion: The HLA DRB1*08032 allele was strongly associated with susceptibility to methimazole-induced agranulocytosis, suggesting that cellular autoimmunity may be involved in its development.
