Structure functions of the spin-1 deuteron will be investigated experimentally from the late 2020's at various facilities such as Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, nuclotron-based ion collider facility, and electron-ion colliders. We expect that a new high-energy spin-physics field could be created by these projects. In this paper, the current theoretical status is explained for the structure functions of spin-1 hadrons, especially on parton distribution functions, transverse-momentum dependent parton distributions, and fragmentation functions. The definitions of the quark and gluon transversity generalized parton distributions (GPDs) in spin-3/2 particles are obtained in the light-cone gauge. It is found that they contain 16 independent components for each parton. Their even or odd property is found in terms of skewness variable, and the odd transversity GPDs vanish in the forward limit. There are 16 amplitudes with helicity flip of quark or gluon. We conclude that all the amplitudes, unpolarized, polarized, and transversity amplitudes, have a common factor $F(\zeta)$ carrying all the complex part. Here, the variable $\zeta$ is the helicity difference $\zeta=(\lambda' -\lambda)-(\mu' - \mu)$ for the amplitude $\mathcal{A}_{\lambda' \mu',\lambda\mu}$. This kinematical factor is associated with the transfer of the orbital angular momentum in the quark- and gluon-spin-3/2 particle scattering amplitudes. We also derive another main physical quantity, transversity distribution, from the transversity GPDs in the forward limit for the spin-3/2 particles., Comment: 22 pages, 2 figures

Gravitational form factors of hadrons provide information on mass and pressure distributions in the hadrons, and they have been investigated by generalized parton distributions (GPDs). The GPDs also contain information on internal compositions of hadron spins. Understanding on the origin of hadron masses, pressures, and spins is an important topic not only in hadron physics but also as fundamental physics, and it should be clarified by the GPD studies. The spacelike and timelike GPDs have been measured at charged-lepton accelerator facilities, for example, by the virtual Compton scattering and the two-photon process, respectively. In this work, we show the $\pi^\pm$ and $\pi^0$ production cross sections in neutrino (antineutrino) reactions $\nu \,(\bar\nu) + N \to \ell + \pi + N'$ for measuring the GPDs of the nucleon by using the theoretical formalism of Pire, Szymanowski, and Wagner. The $\pi^\pm$-production cross sections are useful for determining gluon GPDs, whereas the $\pi^0$ production probes quark GPDs. In particular, we show the roles of the pion- and rho-pole terms, the contribution from each GPD term ($H$, $E$, $\tilde H$, $\tilde E$), the effects of the gluon GPDs $H_g$ and $E_g$, and the effects of the reaction energy on the neutrino cross sections. The $\pi^0$-production cross section is sensitive to the quark GPDs including the pion- and rho-pole GPD terms in the Efremov-Radyushkin-Brodsky-Lepage region. These cross sections could be measured at Fermilab in future. The J-PARC is a hadron-accelerator facility to provide secondary beams of kaons, pions, neutrinos, muons, and the others together with the primary proton beam for investigating a wide range of science projects. High-energy hadron physics can be studied by using high-momentum beams of unseparated hadrons, which are essentially pions, and also primary protons. In this report, possible experiments are explained on color transparency and generalized parton distributions (GPDs). These projects are complementary to lepton-scattering experiments at JLab, COMPASS/AMBER, and future electron-ion colliders. Because of hadron-beam energies up to 30 GeV, the J-PARC is a unique facility to investigate the transition region from the hadron degrees of freedom to the quark-gluon one. It is suitable for finding mechanisms of the color transparency. Such color-transparency studies are also valuable for clarifying factorization of hadron-production processes in extracting the GPDs from actual measurements. Spacelike and timelike generalized parton distributions (GPDs) have been investigated in charged-lepton scattering and electron-positron collisions via deeply virtual Compton scattering and two-photon processes, respectively. Furthermore, we expect that hadron-accelerator-facility measurements will be performed in future. The GPDs will play a crucial role in clarifying the origins of hadron spins and masses in terms of quarks and gluons. It is also possible to probe internal pressure within hadrons for understanding their stability. Gravitational form factors of hadrons used to be considered as a purely academic subject because gravitational interactions are too weak to be measured in microscopic systems. However, due to the development of hadron-tomography field, it became possible to extract the gravitational form factors from the actual GPD measurements without relying on direct gravitational interactions. Neutrino reactions can also be used for GPD studies in future, for example, by using the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility at Fermilab. The neutrino GPD measurements are valuable especially for finding the flavor dependence of the GPDs in a complementary way to the charged-lepton experiments. There are two types of polarizations in spin-1 hadrons, and they are vector and tensor polarizations. The latter is a unique one since it does not exist in the spin-1/2 proton. The vector-polarized PDFs are the same for both the proton and spin-1 hadrons; therefore, we mainly investigate the unique PDFs in tensor-polarized hadrons. By using the operator product expansion, the twist-3 PDF $f_{LT}$ can be expressed by two terms in the same way with $g_T$ of the proton. The first term is determined by the twist-2 PDF $f_{1LL}$ (or $b_1$) which was measured by an experiment, and the second term is expressed by twist-3 quark-gluon distributions. If we neglect the higher-twist effects, $f_{LT}$ is simply given by $f_{1LL}$, and this relation is similar to the Wandzura-Wilczek relation of $g_T$. Furthermore, a new sum rule is also obtained for $f_{2LT}=2/3 f_{LT}- f_{1LL}$, which is analogous to the Burkhardt-Cottingham sum rule, in the tensor-polarized spin-1 hadrons. Transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) were investigated at the twists 3 and 4 for spin-1 hadrons in addition to the twist-2 ones. They were found by studying all the possible decomposition of a quark correlation function in a Lorentz-invariant way with the Hermiticity and parity invariance. The time-reversal invariance was not imposed for the TMDs due to an active role of gauge links; however, they were used for collinear parton distribution functions (PDFs) by integrating the TMDs over the transverse momentum. We found that 30 TMDs exist in the tensor-polarized spin-1 hadron at the twists 3 and 4, whereas there are 10 TMDs at the twist 2. We also showed that there are 3 collinear PDFs at the twists 3 and 4. The corresponding TMD fragmentation functions exist sat the twists 2, 3, and 4 simply by changing function names and variables. Since the time-reversal invariance is valid in the collinear PDFs, the integrals of time-reversal-odd TMDs over the transverse momentum should vanish. We explain a gluon transversity, transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs), and parton distribution functions (PDFs) for spin-1 hadrons. The gluon transversity exists in hadrons with spin more than or equal to one, and it does not exist in the spin-1/2 nucleons. Since there is no direct contribution from the nucleons, it is an appropriate quantity to probe an exotic component in the spin-1 deuteron beyond a simple bound system of the nucleons. We show how the gluon transversity can be measured at hadron accelerator facilities by the Drell-Yan process in addition to lepton-accelerator experiments. Next, possible TMDs are explained for the spin-1 hadrons at the twists 3 and 4 in addition to twist-2 ones by considering tensor polarizations. We found that 30 TMDs exist in the tensor-polarized spin-1 hadron at the twists 3 and 4 in addition to 10 TMDs at the twist 2. There are 3 collinear PDFs at the twists 3 and 4. We also indicate that the corresponding TMD fragmentation functions exist at the twists 3 and 4. Due to the time-reversal invariance in the collinear PDFs, there are new sum rules on the time-reversal odd TMDs. In addition, we obtained a useful twist-2 relation, a sum rule, and relations with multiparton distribution functions by using the operator product expansion and the equation of motion for quarks. Structure functions of polarized spin-1 hadrons will be measured at various accelerator facilities in the near future. Recently, transverse-momentum-dependent and collinear parton distribution functions were theoretically proposed at twist 3 and twist 4 in addition to the twist-2 ones, so that full investigations became possible for structure functions of spin-1 hadrons in the same level with those of the spin-1/2 nucleons. Furthermore, twist-3 tensor-polarized multiparton distribution functions were also recently found for spin-1 hadrons. In this work, we show relations among the collinear parton- and multiparton-distribution functions for spin-1 hadrons by using equation of motion for quarks. Chiral-odd gluon transversity distribution could shed light on a new aspect of hadron physics. Although we had much progress recently on quark transversity distributions, there is no experimental measurement on the gluon transversity. The gluon trasversity does not exist in the spin-1/2 nucleons and it exists in the spin-1 deuteron. Therefore, it could probe new hadron physics in the deuteron beyond the basic bound system of a proton and a neutron because the nucleons cannot contribute directly. Sum rules for structure functions and their twist-2 relations have important roles in constraining their magnitudes and $x$ dependencies and in studying higher-twist effects. The Wandzura-Wilczek (WW) relation and the Burkhardt-Cottingham (BC) sum rule are such examples for the polarized structure functions $g_1$ and $g_2$. Recently, new twist-3 and twist-4 parton distribution functions were proposed for spin-1 hadrons, so that it became possible to investigate spin-1 structure functions including higher-twist ones. We show in this work that an analogous twist-2 relation and a sum rule exist for the tensor-polarized parton distribution functions $f_{1LL}$ and $f_{LT}$, where $f_{1LL}$ is a twist-2 function and $f_{LT}$ is a twist-3 one. Namely, the twist-2 part of $f_{LT}$ is expressed by an integral of $f_{1LL}$ (or $b_1$) and the integral of the function $f_{2LT} = (2/3) f_{LT} -f_{1LL}$ over $x$ vanishes. If the parton-model sum rule for $f_{1LL}$ ($b_1$) is applied by assuming vanishing tensor-polarized antiquark distributions, another sum rule also exists for $f_{LT}$ itself. These relations should be valuable for studying tensor-polarized distribution functions of spin-1 hadrons and for separating twist-2 components from higher-twist terms, as the WW relation and BC sum rule have been used for investigating $x$ dependence and higher-twist effects in $g_2$. In deriving these relations, we indicate that four twist-3 multiparton distribution functions $F_{LT}$, $G_{LT}$, $H_{LL}^\perp$, and $H_{TT}$ exist for tensor-polarized spin-1 hadrons. This report describes the physics case, the resulting detector requirements, and the evolving detector concepts for the experimental program at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC). The EIC will be a powerful new high-luminosity facility in the United States with the capability to collide high-energy electron beams with high-energy proton and ion beams, providing access to those regions in the nucleon and nuclei where their structure is dominated by gluons. Moreover, polarized beams in the EIC will give unprecedented access to the spatial and spin structure of the proton, neutron, and light ions. The studies leading to this document were commissioned and organized by the EIC User Group with the objective of advancing the state and detail of the physics program and developing detector concepts that meet the emerging requirements in preparation for the realization of the EIC. The effort aims to provide the basis for further development of concepts for experimental equipment best suited for the science needs, including the importance of two complementary detectors and interaction regions. This report consists of three volumes. Volume I is an executive summary of our findings and developed concepts. In Volume II we describe studies of a wide range of physics measurements and the emerging requirements on detector acceptance and performance. Volume III discusses general-purpose detector concepts and the underlying technologies to meet the physics requirements. The Spin Physics Detector (SPD) is a future multipurpose experiment foreseen to run at the NICA collider, which is currently under construction at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR, Dubna, Russia). The physics program of the experiment is based on collisions of longitudinally and transversely polarized protons and deuterons at $\sqrt{s}$ up to 27 GeV and luminosity up to 10$^{32}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. The SPD will operate as a universal facility for comprehensive study of unpolarized and polarized gluon content of the nucleon, using different complementary probes such as: charmonia, open charm, and prompt photon production processes. The aim of this work is to make a thorough review of the physics objectives that can potentially be addressed at the SPD, underlining related theoretical aspects and discussing relevant experimental results when available. We show possible transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) for spin-1 hadrons including twist-3 and 4 functions in addition to the leading twist-2 ones by investigating all the possible decomposition of a quark correlation function in the Lorentz-invariant way. The Hermiticity and parity invariance are imposed in the decomposition; however, the time-reversal invariance is not used due to an active role of gauge links in the TMDs. Therefore, there exist time-reversal-odd functions in addition to the time-reversal even ones in the TMDs. We list all the functions up to twist-4 level because there were missing terms associated with the lightcone vector $n$ in previous works on the twist-2 part and there was no correlation-function study in the twist-3 and 4 parts for spin-1 hadrons. We show that 40 TMDs exist in the tensor-polarized spin-1 hadron in twists 2, 3, and 4. Some expressions of twist-2 structure functions are modified from previous derivations due to the new terms with $n$, and we find 30 new structure functions in twists 3 and 4 in this work. Since time-reversal-odd terms of the collinear correlation function should vanish after integrals over the partonic transverse momentum, we obtain new sum rules for the time-reversal-odd structure functions, $ \int d^2 k_T h_{LT}= \int d^2 k_T h_{LL} = \int d^2 k_T h_{3LL} =0$. In addition, we indicate that new transverse-momentum-dependent fragmentation functions exist in tensor-polarized spin-1 hadrons. The gluon transversity distribution in the deuteron is defined by the matrix element between linearly-polarized deuteron states, and it could be investigated in proton-deuteron collisions in addition to lepton-deuteron scattering. The linear polarization of photon is often used, whereas it is rarely used for the spin-1 deuteron. Therefore, it is desirable to express deuteron-reaction cross sections in term of conventional deuteron spin polarizations for actual experimental measurements. In this work, we investigate how proton-deuteron Drell-Yan cross sections are expressed by the conventional polarizations for finding the gluon transversity distribution. In particular, we show that the gluon transversity can be measured in the proton-deuteron Drell-Yan process by taking the cross-section difference between the deuteron spin polarizations along the two-transverse axes. Since the gluon transversity does not exist for the spin-1/2 nucleons, a finite gluon transversity of the deuteron could indicate an "exotic" mechanism beyond the simple bound system of the nucleons in the deuteron. Nucleon spin structure functions have been investigated mainly by longitudinally-polarized ones for finding the origin of the nucleon spin. Other types of spin structure functions are transversely-polarized ones. In particular, quark transversity distributions in the nucleons have very different properties from the longitudinally-polarized quark distribution functions, especially in scaling violation, because they are decoupled from the gluon transversity, due to the fact that they are helicity-flip (chiral-odd) distributions. Such studies are valuable for finding not only the origin of the nucleon spin but also a signature on physics beyond the standard model, because the electric dipole moment of the neutron is proportional to the transversity distributions. Now, there is experimental progress on the quark transversity distributions; however, there is no experimental information on gluon transversity. In fact, the gluon transversity does not exist for the spin-1/2 nucleon due to the helicity-conservation constraint. One needs a hadron with spin more than or equal to one, so that the helicity flip of two units is allowed. A stable spin-1 target is, for example, the deuteron for studying the gluon transversity. In this work, we propose a possibility for finding the gluon transversity at hadron-accelerator facilities, especially in the proton-deuteron Drell-Yan process with the linearly-polarized deuteron, by showing theoretical formalism and numerical results. We show the dependencies of the Drell-Yan cross section on the dimuon-mass squared $M_{\mu\mu}^{\,2}$, the dimuon transverse-momentum $q_T$, the dimuon rapidity $y$ in the center-of-momentum frame, and the magnitude of the gluon transversity $\Delta_T g$., Comment: 21 pages, 16 eps figure files, typos are corrected. This report is the summary of the Eighth International Conference on Quarks and Nuclear Physics (QNP2018). Hadron and nuclear physics is the field to investigate high-density quantum many-body systems bound by strong interactions. It is intended to clarify matter generation of universe and properties of quark-hadron many-body systems. The QNP is an international conference which covers a wide range of hadron and nuclear physics, including quark and gluon structure of hadrons, hadron spectroscopy, hadron interactions and nuclear structure, hot and cold dense matter, and experimental facilities. First, I introduce the current status of the hadron and nuclear physics field related to this conference. Next, the organization of the conference is explained, and a brief overview of major recent developments is discussed by selecting topics from discussions at the plenary sessions. They include rapidly-developing field of gravitational waves and nuclear physics, hadron interactions and nuclear structure with strangeness, lattice QCD, hadron spectroscopy, nucleon structure, heavy-ion physics, hadrons in nuclear medium, and experimental facilities of EIC, GSI-FAIR, JLab, J-PARC, Super-KEKB, and others. Nuclear physics is at a fortunate time to push various projects at these facilities. We report recent theoretical progress on a polarization asymmetry in the proton-deuteron Drell-Yan process with a polarized-deuteron target and the tensor-polarized structure function $b_1$. Experimental measurements are possible at JLab for $b_1$ and at Fermilab for the Drell-Yan process. First, we show a theoretical estimate for the proton-deuteron Drell-Yan asymmetry in the Fermilab-E1039 experiment. We evolved tensor-polarized parton distribution functions, which explain existing HERMES $b_1$ data, at $Q^2=2.5$ GeV$^2$ to the $Q^2$ range of the Fermilab Drell-Yan measurements. Then, we predicted that the asymmetry is of the order of a few percent. The Drell-Yan experiment has an advantage to probe the tensor-polarized antiquark distributions, which were suggested by the HERMES experiment as a finite sum for $b_1$ ($\int dx b_1 (x) \ne 0$). Second, we predicted $b_1$ for the JLab experiment by the standard convolution model of the deuteron. Our theoretical $b_1$ structure function seems to be much different from the HERMES data. Furthermore, a significant distribution exists at very large $x$ ($>1$) beyond the kinematical limit $x_{max}=1$ for the proton. Generalized parton distributions (GPDs) are 3-dimensional (3D) structure functions for hadrons, and they are important for solving the proton spin puzzle including partonic orbital-angular-momentum contributions. The $s$-$t$ crossed quantities of the GPDs are generalized distribution amplitudes (GDAs). Here, $s$ and $t$ are Mandelstam variables. The GDAs can be studied in two-photon processes ($\gamma^* \gamma\to h \bar h$) at KEKB. A GDA describes the amplitude from quark and antiquark to the hadron pair $h \bar h$. In 2016, the Belle collaboration reported measurements for pion-pair production in electron-positron collision, and the pion GDAs were determined in this work by analyzing the Belle data. In our analysis, the pion GDAs are expressed by a few parameters, which are determined by analyzing the Belle data. From the obtained GDAs, form factors of energy-momentum tenor, so called gravitational form factors, are calculated for pion in the timelike region. The spacelike gravitational form factors are calculated from the timelike ones by using the dispersion relation. Then, the mass radius is calculated as 0.32-0.39 fm and the mechanical radius, defined by the slope of the form factor $\Theta_1$, is calculated as 0.82-0.88 fm for the pion by using the spacelike form factors. This is the first study on gravitational form factors and radii of hadrons from actual experimental measurements. High-energy neutrino-nucleus interactions are discussed by considering neutrino-oscillation experiments and ultra-high-energy cosmic neutrino interactions. The largest systematic error for the current neutrino oscillation measurements comes from the neutrino-nucleus interaction part, and its accurate understanding is essential for high-precision neutrino physics, namely for studying CP violation in the lepton sector. Depending on neutrino beam energies, quasi-elastic, resonance, Regge, or/and deep inelastic scattering (DIS) processes contribute to the neutrino cross section. It is desirable to have a code to calculate the neutrino-nucleus cross section in any kinematical range by combining various theoretical descriptions. On the other hand, the IceCube collaboration started obtaining cross section data up to the $10^{15}$ eV range, so that it became necessary to understand ultra-high-energy neutrino interactions beyond the artificial lepton-accelerator energy range. For future precise neutrino physics including the CP measurement, it is also necessary to understand accurate nuclear corrections. The current status is explained for nuclear corrections in DIS structure functions. The possibility is also discussed to find gravitational sources within nucleons and nuclei, namely matrix elements of quark-gluon energy-momentum tensor. I explain the current status of parton-distribution-function (PDF) studies and future experimental prospects on their determinations. First, unpolarized PDFs of the nucleon are introduced as a field of precision QCD physics including higher-order $\alpha_s$ corrections. Second, nuclear PDFs and polarized nucleonic PDFs are discussed. Third, the determination of fragmentation functions is explained. Forth, the three-dimensional (3D) structure functions are discussed in connection with the origin of the nucleon spin and gravitational form factors of hadrons. By the 3D structure functions, gravitational sources and the origin of nucleon mass could be clarified in the microscopic level of quarks and gluons. Furthermore, 3D structure studies of hadrons could be used for clarifying internal structure of exotic hadron candidates, nuclear composition of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays, and color-entanglement phenomena. Hadron tomography has been investigated by three-dimensional structure functions, such as generalized parton distributions (GPDs) and generalized distribution amplitudes (GDAs). The GDAs are $s$-$t$ crossed quantities of the GPDs, and both functions probe gravitational form factors for hadrons. We determined the pion GDAs by analyzing Belle data on the differential cross section for the two-photon process $\gamma^* \gamma \to \pi^0 \pi^0$. From the determined GDAs, we calculated timelike gravitational form factors of the pion and they were converted to the spacelike form factors by using the dispersion relation. These gravitational form factors $\Theta_1$ and $\Theta_2$ indicate mechanical (pressure, shear force) and gravitational-mass (or energy) distributions, respectively. Then, gravitational radii are calculated for the pion from the form factors, and they are compared with the pion charge radius. Three-dimensional tomography of hadrons can be investigated by generalized parton distributions (GPDs), transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions (TMDs), and generalized distribution amplitudes (GDAs). The GDA studies had been only theoretical for a long time because there was no experimental measurement until recently, whereas the GPDs and TMDs have been investigated extensively by deeply virtual Compton scattering and semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering. Here, we report our studies to determine pion GDAs from recent KEKB measurements on the differential cross section of $\gamma^* \gamma \to \pi^0 \pi^0$. Since an exotic-hadron pair can be produced in the final state, the GDAs can be used also for probing internal structure of exotic hadron candidates in future. The other important feature of the GDAs is that the GDAs contain information on form factors of the energy-momentum tensor for quarks and gluons, so that gravitational form factors and radii can be calculated from the determined GDAs. We show the mass (energy) and the mechanical (pressure, shear force) form factors and radii for the pion. Our analysis should be the first attempt for obtaining gravitational form factors and radii of hadrons by analysis of actual experimental measurements. Generalized distribution amplitudes (GDAs) are one type of three-dimensional structure functions, and they are related to the generalized distribution functions (GPDs) by the $s$-$t$ crossing of the Mandelstam variables. The GDA studies provide information on three-dimensional tomography of hadrons. The GDAs can be investigated by the two-photon process $\gamma^* \gamma \to h\bar h$, and the GPDs are studied by the deeply virtual Compton scattering $\gamma^* h \to \gamma h$. The GDA studies had been pure theoretical topics, although the GPDs have been experimentally investigated, because there was no available experimental measurement. Recently, the Belle collaboration reported their measurements on the $\gamma^* \gamma \to \pi^0 \pi^0$ differential cross section, so that it became possible to find the GDAs from their measurements. Here, we report our analysis of the Belle data for determining the pion GDAs. From the GDAs, the timelike gravitational form factors $\Theta_1 (s)$ and $\Theta_2 (s)$ can be calculated, which are mechanical (pressure, shear force) and mass (energy) form factors, respectively. They are converted to the spacelike form factors by using the dispersion relation, and then gravitational radii are evaluated for the pion. The mass and mechanical radii are obtained from $\Theta_2$ and $\Theta_1$ as $\sqrt {\langle r^2 \rangle_{\text{mass}}} =0.56 \sim 0.69$ fm and $\sqrt {\langle r^2 \rangle_{\text{mech}}} =1.45 \sim 1.56$ fm, whereas the experimental charge radius is $\sqrt {\langle r^2 \rangle_{\text{charge}}} =0.672 \pm 0.008$ fm for the charged pion. Here, we extract the GDAs, which are $s$-$t$ crossed quantities of the GPDs, from cross-section measurements of hadron-pair production process $\gamma^* \gamma \rightarrow \pi^0 \pi^0$ at KEKB. This work is the first attempt to obtain the GDAs from the actual experimental data. The GDAs are expressed by a number of parameters and they are determined from the data of $\gamma^* \gamma \rightarrow \pi^0 \pi^0$ by including intermediate scalar- and tensor-meson contributions to the cross section. Our results indicate that the dependence of parton-momentum fraction $z$ in the GDAs is close to the asymptotic one. The timelike gravitational form factors $\Theta_1$ and $\Theta_2$ are obtained from our GDAs, and they are converted to the spacelike ones by the dispersion relation.From the spacelike $\Theta_1$ and $\Theta_2$, gravitational densities of the pion are calculated. Then, we obtained the mass (energy) radius and the mechanical (pressure and shear force) radius from $\Theta_2$ and $\Theta_1$, respectively. They are calculated as $\sqrt {\langle r^2 \rangle _{\text{mass}}} =0.32 \sim 0.39$ fm, whereas the mechanical radius is larger $\sqrt {\langle r^2 \rangle _{\text{mech}}} =0.82 \sim 0.88$ fm. This is the first report on the gravitational radius of a hadron from actual experimental measurements. It is interesting to find the possibility that the gravitational mass and mechanical radii could be different from the experimental charge radius $\sqrt {\langle r^2 \rangle _{\text{charge}}} =0.672 \pm 0.008$ fm for the charged pion., Comment: 27 pages, 21 figures. Spin-1 hadrons have additional structure functions not present for spin 1/2 hadrons. These could probe novel aspects of hadron structure and QCD dynamics. For the deuteron, the tensor structure function $b_1$ inherently mixes quark and nuclear degrees of freedom. These proceedings discuss two standard convolution models applied to calculations of the deuteron $b_1$ structure functions. We find large differences with the existing HERMES data and other convolution model calculations. This leaves room for non-standard contributions to $b_1$ in the deuteron. There are polarized structure functions $b_{1-4}$ for the spin-1 deuteron. We calculated the leading-twist tensor structure function $b_1$ by using convolution description for the deuteron. We found large differences between our theoretical functions and HERMES experimental data on $b_1$. Although higher-twist effects should be considered in obtaining experimental $b_1$, it suggests a possible existence of new hadron physics mechanism for spin-1 hadrons. Furthermore, we found that there are significant distributions at large Bjorken $x$. Tensor-polarized structure functions of a spin-1 hadron are additional observables which do not exist for the spin-1/2 nucleon. They could probe novel aspects of the internal hadron structure. Twist-2 tensor-polarized structure functions are $b_1$ and $b_2$, and they are related by the Callan-Gross-like relation in the Bjorken scaling limit. In this work, we theoretically calculate $b_1$ in the standard convolution description for the deuteron. Two different theoretical models, a basic convolution description and a virtual nucleon approximation, are used for calculating $b_1$ and their results are compared with the HERMES measurement. We found large differences between our theoretical results and the data. Although there is still room to improve by considering higher-twist effects and in the experimental extraction of $b_1$ from the spin asymmetry $A_{zz}$, there is a possibility that the large differences require physics beyond the standard deuteron model for their interpretation. Future $b_1$ studies could shed light on a new field of hadron physics. In particular, detailed experimental studies of $b_1$ will start soon at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. In addition, there are possibilities to investigate tensor-polarized parton distribution functions and $b_1$ at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and a future electron-ion collider. Tensor structure of the deuteron can be studied by deep inelastic scattering and Drell-Yan process to understand it in terms of quark and gluon degrees of freedom. It probes interesting features in the deuteron including a D-wave contribution. In the charged-lepton DIS, twist-two structure functions $b_1$ and $b_2$ are expressed by tensor-polarized parton distribution functions (PDFs). We note that the HERMES experimental measurement of $b_1$ seems to be much different from a conventional theoretical prediction. This puzzling situation should be significantly improved in the near future by an approved experiment to measure $b_1$ at JLab. On the other hand, the tensor-polarized PDFs, especially antiquark distributions, could be measured by spin asymmetries in the Drell-Yan process with a tensor-polarized deuteron at Fermilab. In this work, we estimate tensor-polarization asymmetries for the Fermilab Drell-Yan experiment by using a parametrization for the tensor-polarized PDFs to explain the HERMES $b_1$ data. Obtained spin asymmetries are typically a few percent order and they could be measured by the Fermilab-E1039 experiment. We discuss hadron-tomography studies for the nucleon and exotic hadrons by high-energy hadron reactions. First, the constituent-counting rule is explained for determining internal quark configurations of exotic-hadron candidates by scaling properties of high-energy exclusive cross sections. Next, possibilities are discussed for investigating the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of the nucleon and exotic hadrons at J-PARC. In particular, we study hadronic $2 \to 3$ process $p+p \to N+\pi+B$, exclusive Drell-Yan process, and exotic-hadron GPDs. We explain a method to find internal quark configurations of exotic hadron candidates by using the constituent counting rule. The counting rule was theoretically predicted in perturbative QCD for hard exclusive hadron reactions, and it has been tested in experiments for stable hadrons including compound systems of hadrons such as the deuteron, $^3$H, and $^3$He. It indicates that the cross section scales as $d\sigma /dt \sim 1/s^{n-2}$, where $s$ is the center-of-mass energy squared and $n$ is the total number of constituents. We apply this method for finding internal configurations of exotic hadron candidates, especially $\Lambda (1405)$. There is a possibility that $\Lambda (1405)$ could be five-quark state or a $\bar K N$ molecule, and scaling properties should be different between the ordinary three-quark state or five-quark one. We predict such a difference in $\pi^- + p \to K^0 + \Lambda (1405)$, and it could be experimentally tested, for example, at J-PARC. On the other hand, there are already measurements for $\gamma + p \to K^+ + \Lambda (1405)$ as well as the ground $\Lambda$ in photoproduction reactions. Analyzing such data, we found an interesting indication that $\Lambda (1405)$ looks like a five-quark state at medium energies and a three-quark one at high energies. However, accurate higher-energy measurements are necessary for drawing a solid conclusion, and it should be done at JLab by using the updated 12 GeV electron beam. Furthermore, we discuss studies of exotic hadron candidates, such as $f_0 (980)$ and $a_0 (980)$, in electron-positron annihilation by using generalized distribution amplitudes and the counting rule. There are four new structure functions for the spin-1 deuteron in comparison with the ones for the spin-1/2 proton, and they are called $b_1$, $b_2$, $b_3$, and $b_4$. The twist-2 structure functions $b_1$ and $b_2$ are expressed by tensor-polarized parton distribution functions in the deuteron. HERMES measurements of $b_1$ are much different from the prediction of the standard deuteron model with D-state admixture. It indicates that the structure functions $b_1$ and $b_2$ probe an interesting new aspect in the deuteron. There is an approved experiment at JLab to measure $b_1$ and it is expected to start in 2019. On the other hand, the measurement of tensor-polarized distributions is under consideration at Fermilab by the Drell-Yan process with the unpolarized proton beam and tensor-polarized deuteron target. It is expected to provide crucial information on tensor-polarized antiquark distributions. A precise description of neutrino-nucleus reactions will play a key role in addressing fundamental questions such as the leptonic CP violation and the neutrino mass hierarchy through analyzing data from next-generation neutrino oscillation experiments. The neutrino energy relevant to the neutrino-nucleus reactions spans a broad range and, accordingly, the dominant reaction mechanism varies across the energy region from quasi-elastic scattering through nucleon resonance excitations to deep inelastic scattering. This corresponds to transitions of the effective degree of freedom for theoretical description from nucleons through meson-baryon to quarks. The main purpose of this review is to report our recent efforts towards a unified description of the neutrino-nucleus reactions over the wide energy range; recent overall progress in the field is also sketched. Starting with an overview of the current status of neutrino-nucleus scattering experiments, we formulate the cross section to be commonly used for the reactions over all the energy regions. A description of the neutrino-nucleon reactions follows and, in particular, a dynamical coupled-channels model for meson productions in and beyond the $\Delta$(1232) region is discussed in detail. We then discuss the neutrino-nucleus reactions, putting emphasis on our theoretical approaches. We start the discussion with electroweak processes in few-nucleon systems studied with the correlated Gaussian method. Then we describe quasi-elastic scattering with nuclear spectral functions, and meson productions with a $\Delta$-hole model. Nuclear modifications of the parton distribution functions determined through a global analysis are also discussed. We perform the first iterative Monte Carlo (IMC) analysis of fragmentation functions constrained by all available data from single-inclusive $e^+ e^-$ annihilation into pions and kaons. The IMC method eliminates potential bias in traditional analyses based on single fits introduced by fixing parameters not well contrained by the data and provides a statistically rigorous determination of uncertainties. Our analysis reveals specific features of fragmentation functions using the new IMC methodology and those obtained from previous analyses, especially for light quarks and for strange quark fragmentation to kaons., Comment: 44 pages, 11 figures

Fragmentation functions are determined for the pion and kaon by global analyses of charged-hadron production data in electron-positron annihilation. Accurate measurements were reported by the Belle and BaBar collaborations for the fragmentation functions at the center-of-mass energies of 10.52 GeV and 10.54 GeV, respectively, at the KEK and SLAC B factories, whereas other available $e^+e^-$ measurements were mostly done at higher energies, mainly at the $Z$ mass of 91.2 GeV. There is a possibility that gluon fragmentation functions, as well as quark fragmentation functions, are accurately determined by scaling violation. We report our global analysis of the fragmentation functions especially to show impacts of the B-factory measurements on the fragmentation function determination. Our results indicate that the fragmentation functions are determined more accurately not only by the scaling violation but also by high-statistical nature of the Belle and BaBar data. However, there are some tensions between the Belle and BaBar data in comparison with previous measurements. We also explain how the flavor dependence of quark fragmentation functions and the gluon function are separated by using measurements at different $Q^2$ values. Tensor-polarized parton distribution functions are new quantities in spin-one hadrons such as the deuteron, and they could probe new quark-gluon dynamics in hadron and nuclear physics. In charged-lepton deep inelastic scattering (DIS), they are studied by the twist-two structure functions $b_1$ and $b_2$. The HERMES collaboration found unexpectedly large $b_1$ values than a naive theoretical expectation based on the standard deuteron model. The situation should be significantly improved in the near future by an approved experiment to measure $b_1$ at JLab (Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility). There is also an interesting indication in the HERMES result that finite antiquark tensor polarization exists. It could play an important role in solving a mechanism on tensor structure in the quark-gluon level. The tensor-polarized antiquark distributions are not easily determined from the charged-lepton DIS; however, they can be measured in a proton-deuteron Drell-Yan process with a tensor-polarized deuteron target. In this article, we estimate the tensor-polarization asymmetry for a possible Fermilab Main-Injector experiment by using optimum tensor-polarized PDFs to explain the HERMES measurement. We find that the asymmetry is typically a few percent. If it is measured, it could probe new hadron physics, and such studies could create an interesting field of high-energy spin physics. In addition, we find that a significant tensor-polarized gluon distribution should exist due to $Q^2$ evolution, even if it were zero at a low $Q^2$ scale. We discuss nuclear effects on neutrino-nuclear interactions in a wide kinematical range from shallow to deep inelastic scattering (DIS) region. There is necessity from neutrino communities to have precise neutrino-nucleus cross sections for future measurements on neutrino oscillations and leptonic CP violation. We try to create a model to calculate neutrino cross sections in the wide kinematical range, from quasi-elastic scattering and resonance productions to the DIS. In this article, nuclear modifications of structure functions are mainly discussed, and a possible extension to the $Q^2 \to 0$ region is explained. We also comment on the transition region between baryon resonances and the DIS. We report progress on nuclear structure functions, especially on their nuclear modifications and a new tensor structure function for the deuteron. To understand nuclear structure functions is an important step toward describing nuclei and QCD matters from low to high densities and from low to high energies in terms of fundamental quark and gluon degrees of freedom beyond conventional hadron and nuclear physics. It is also practically important for understanding new phenomena in high-energy heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC. Furthermore, since systematic errors of current neutrino-oscillation experiments are dominated by uncertainties of neutrino-nucleus interactions, such studies are valuable for finding new physics beyond current framework. Next, a new tensor-polarized structure function $b_1$ is discussed for the deuteron. There was a measurement by HERMES; however, its data are inconsistent with the conventional convolution estimate based on the standard deuteron model with D-state admixture. We analyze the CLAS data on the photoproduction of hyperon resonances, as well as the available data for the ground state $\Lambda$ and $\Sigma ^{0}$ of the CLAS and SLAC-E84 collaborations, by considering constituent-counting rule suggested by perturbative QCD. The counting rule emerges as a scaling behavior of cross sections in hard exclusive reactions with large scattering angles, and it enables us to determine the number of elementary constituents inside hadrons. Therefore, it could be used as a new method for identifying internal constituents of exotic-hadron candidates. From the analyses of the $\gamma \, p \to K^{+} \Lambda$ and $K^{+} \Sigma ^{0}$ reactions, we find that the number of the elementary constituents is consistent with $n_{\gamma} = 1$, $n_{p} = 3$, $n_{K^{+}} = 2$, and $n_{\Lambda} = n_{\Sigma ^{0}} = 3$. Then, the analysis is made for the photoproductions of the hyperon resonances $\Lambda (1405)$, $\Sigma (1385)^{0}$, and $\Lambda (1520)$, where $\Lambda (1405)$ is considered to be a $\bar K N$ molecule and hence its constituent number could be five. However, we find that the current data are not enough to conclude the numbers of their constituent. It is necessary to investigate the higher-energy region at $\sqrt{s} > 2.8$ GeV experimentally beyond the energy of the available CLAS data for counting the number of constituents clearly. We also mention that our results indicate energy dependence in the constituent number, especially for $\Lambda (1405)$. Spin-physics projects at J-PARC are explained by including future possibilities. J-PARC is the most-intense hadron-beam facility in the high-energy region above multi-GeV, and spin physics will be investigated by using secondary beams of kaons, pions, neutrinos, muons, and antiproton as well as the primary-beam proton. In particle physics, spin topics are on muon $g-2$, muon and neutron electric dipole moments, and time-reversal violation experiment in a kaon decay. Here, we focus more on hadron-spin physics as for future projects. For example, generalized parton distributions (GPDs) could be investigated by using pion and proton beams, whereas they are studied by the virtual Compton scattering at lepton facilities. The GPDs are key quantities for determining the three-dimensional picture of hadrons and for finding the origin of the nucleon spin including partonic orbital-angular-momentum contributions. In addition, polarized parton distributions and various hadron spin topics should be possible by using the high-momentum beamline. Recently the concept of compositeness has been developed so as to distinguish whether interested hadrons are hadronic molecules or not. We propose to use high-energy exclusive reactions for probing internal structure of exotic hadron candidates. First, the constituent counting rule of perturbative QCD can be used for finding internal configurations of an exotic hadron candidate. It is because the number of constituents ($n$), which participate in the exclusive reaction, is found by the scaling behavior of the cross section $d\sigma/dt \propto 1/s^{n-2}$ at large momentum transfer, where $s$ is the center-of-mass energy squared. As an example, we show that the internal structure of $\Lambda \, (1405)$ should be found, for example, by the reaction $\pi^- + p \to K^0 + \Lambda (1405)$. Second, the internal structure of exotic hadron candidates should be investigated by hadron tomography with generalized parton distributions (GPDs) and generalized distribution amplitudes (GDAs) in exclusive reactions. Exotic nature should be reflected in the GPDs which contain two factors, longitudinal parton distributions as indicated by the constituent counting rule and transverse form factors as suggested by the hadron size. The GDAs should be investigated by the two-photon process $\gamma^* \gamma \to h\bar h$, for example $h=f_0$ or $a_0$, in electron-positron annihilation. Since the GDAs contain information on a time-like form factor, exotic nature should be found by studying the $h\bar h$ invariant mass dependence of the cross section. Structure of the $a_{0}(980)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ resonances is investigated with the $a_{0}(980)$-$f_{0}(980)$ mixing intensity from the viewpoint of compositeness, which corresponds to the amount of two-body states composing resonances as well as bound states. For this purpose we first formulate the $a_{0}(980)$-$f_{0}(980)$ mixing intensity as the ratio of two partial decay widths of a parent particle, in the same manner as the recent analysis in BES experiments. Calculating the $a_{0}(980)$-$f_{0}(980)$ mixing intensity with the existing Flatte parameters from experiments, we find that many combinations of the $a_{0}(980)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ Flatte parameters can reproduce the experimental value of the $a_{0}(980)$-$f_{0}(980)$ mixing intensity by BES. Next, from the same Flatte parameters we also calculate the $K \bar{K}$ compositeness for $a_{0}(980)$ and $f_{0}(980)$. Although the compositeness with the correct normalization becomes complex in general for resonance states, we find that the Flatte parameters for $f_{0}(980)$ imply large absolute value of the $K \bar{K}$ compositeness and the parameters for $a_{0}(980)$ lead to small but nonnegligible absolute value of the $K \bar{K}$ compositeness. Then, connecting the mixing intensity and the $K \bar{K}$ compositeness via the $a_{0}(980)$- and $f_{0}(980)$-$K \bar{K}$ coupling constants, we establish a relation between them. As a result, a small mixing intensity indicates a small value of the product of the $K \bar{K}$ compositeness for the $a_{0}(980)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ resonances. Moreover, the experimental value of the $a_{0}(980)$-$f_{0}(980)$ mixing intensity implies that the $a_{0}(980)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ resonances cannot be simultaneously $K \bar{K}$ molecular states., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, version accepted for publication in PRD

A clustering aspect is explained for the $^9$Be nucleus in charged-lepton deep inelastic scattering. Nuclear modifications of the structure function $F_2$ are studied by the ratio $R_{\rm EMC} = F_2^A /F_2^D$, where $A$ and $D$ are a nucleus and the deuteron, respectively. In a JLab experiment, an unexpectedly large nuclear modification slope $|dR_{\rm EMC}/dx|$ was found for $^9$Be, which could be related to its clustering structure. We investigated a mean conventional part of a nuclear structure function $F_2^A$ by a convolution description with nucleon momentum distributions calculated by antisymmetrized (or fermionic) molecular dynamics (AMD) and also by a simple shell model.
