Taking the Paleozoic of the Sichuan and Tarim basins in China as example, the controlling effects of the Earth system evolution and multi-spherical interactions on the formation and enrichment of marine ultra-deep petroleum in China have been elaborated. By discussing the development of “source-reservoir-seal” controlled by the breakup and assembly of supercontinents and regional tectonic movements, and the mechanisms of petroleum generation and accumulation controlled by temperature-pressure system and fault conduit system, Both the South China and Tarim blocks passed through the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) of the low-latitude Hadley Cell twice during their drifts, and formed hydrocarbon source rocks with high quality. It is proposed that deep tectonic activities and surface climate evolution jointly controlled the types and stratigraphic positions of ultra-deep hydrocarbon source rocks, reservoirs, and seals in the Sichuan and Tarim basins, forming multiple petroleum systems in the Ediacaran–Cambrian, Cambrian–Ordovician, Cambrian–Permian and Permian–Triassic strata. The matching degree of source-reservoir-seal, the type of organic matter in source rocks, the deep thermal regime of basin, and the burial-uplift process across tectonic periods collectively control the entire process from the generation to the accumulation of oil and gas. Three types of oil and gas enrichment models are formed, including near-source accumulation in platform marginal zones, distant-source accumulation in high-energy beaches through faults, and three-dimensional accumulation in strike-slip fault zones, which ultimately result in the multi-layered natural gas enrichment in ultra-deep layers of the Sichuan Basin and co-enrichment of oil and gas in the ultra-deep layers of the Tarim Basin.

Pervious concrete is a special type of concrete that is of high porosity and contains no or a small amount of fine aggregate, and it is an important basic material for sponge city construction. The presence of a large number of connected pores inside pervious concrete leads to a marked difference in durability failure mechanism compared with that of ordinary concrete.In this study, the frost resistance and anti-clogging of pervious concrete were introduced in detail, and the methods to improve their performance were summarized systematically. The cracking pattern of pervious concrete is influenced by geometric characteristics and three-dimensional morphological features of pores, resulting in its crack generation, development, and geometry being significantly different from those of ordinary concrete, thus leading to different freeze-thaw cycle mechanisms. In addition, due to its different pore structure compared to ordinary concrete, three types of clogging mechanisms, affecting the long-term permeability of pervious concrete were elaborated systematically (i.e., physical clogging, biological clogging, and chemical clogging). And the ways to improve the anti-clogging of pervious concrete are systematically presented from multiple perspectives. Finally, in order to broaden the engineering applications of pervious concrete, some research proposals are presented in this study.

Abstract Helicobacter pylori infection, a worldwide health issue, is typically treated with standard antibiotic therapies. However, these treatments often face resistance and non-compliance due to side effects. In this umbrella review, we aimed to comprehensively assess the impact of probiotics supplementation in different preparations on Helicobacter pylori standard treatment. We searched PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials in the Cochrane Library from inception to June 1, 2023, to identify systematic reviews with meta-analyses that focused on eradication rates, total side effects and other outcomes of interest. The most comprehensive meta-analysis was selected for data extraction. AMSTAR 2 was used to assess quality of meta-analyses. Overall, 28 unique meta-analyses based on 534 RCTs were included. The results suggests that probiotics supplementation with pooled probiotic strains was significantly associated with improved eradication rates (RR 1.10, 95% CI 1.06–1.14) and reduced risk of total side effects (RR 0.54, 95% CI 0.42–0.70) compared with standard therapy alone. Single-strained or multi-strained preparation of probiotics supplementation showed similar results. Despite Bifidobacterium spp. showing the highest potential for eradication, the study quality was critically low for most meta-analyses, necessitating further high-quality research to explore the optimal probiotic strains or their combinations for Helicobacter pylori treatment.aq_start?>Kindly check and confirm the edit made in article title.

Abstract Background The increasing prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a major challenge, particularly in rural areas of China where control rates are suboptimal. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a GDM subsidy program in promoting GDM screening and management in these underserved regions. Methods This multicenter, randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted in obstetric clinics of six rural hospitals located in three provinces in China. Eligible participants were pregnant women in 24–28 weeks’ gestation, without overt diabetes, with a singleton pregnancy, access to a telephone, and provided informed consent. Participants were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either the intervention or control groups using an internet-based, computer-generated randomization system. The intervention group received subsidized care for GDM, which included screening, blood glucose retesting, and lifestyle management, with financial assistance provided to health care providers. In contrast, the control group received usual care. The primary outcomes of this study were the combined maternal and neonatal complications associated with GDM, as defined by the occurrence of at least one pre-defined complication in either the mother or newborn. The secondary outcomes included the GDM screening rate, rates of glucose retesting for pregnant women diagnosed with GDM, dietary patterns, physical activity levels, gestational weight gain, and antenatal visit frequency for exploratory purposes. Primary and secondary outcomes were obtained for all participants with and without GDM. Binary outcomes were analyzed by the generalized linear model with a link of logistic, and odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were reported. Count outcomes were analyzed by Poisson regression, and incidence rate ratios with 95% CIs were reported. Results A total of 3294 pregnant women were randomly assigned to either the intervention group (n = 1649) or the control group (n = 1645) between 15 September 2018 and 30 September 2019. The proportion of pregnant women in the intervention group who suffered from combined maternal and/or neonatal complications was lower than in the control group with adjusted OR = 0.86 (0.80 to 0.94, P = 0.001), and a more significant difference was observed in the GDM subgroup (adjusted OR = 0.66, 95% CI 0.47 to 0.95, P = 0.025). In this study, field tests and numerical simulations are combined to investigate the earth pressure distribution and deformation characteristics of double corrugated steel culvert (DCSC) with different culvert spacings. The results show that with an increase in the horizontal earth pressure caused by the horizontal squeezing of the DCSC, the constraint effect on the culvert enhances. Comparing with the single corrugated steel culvert (SCSC), the bearing capacity of the DCSC is greatly improved. In addition, deformation calculation models of the SCSC and DCSC are established to investigate the deformation characteristics. Based on the Winkler’s foundation model, the relationship between the deformation and passive deformation resistances on the left and right sides of a culvert is established. Introducing critical culvert spacing Lcr, the influence of the culvert spacing on the deformation characteristics of the DCSC is revealed. Further, the relationship between Lcr and culvert radius R is derived. By analysing correlations between culvert deformation and the influencing factors, i.e., height of fill, compressive stiffness of fill and culvert spacing, the deformation calculation models of the SCSC and DCSC proposed in this study are verified.

ABSTRACT The interaction between coexisting plasmids can affect plasmid-carried resistance gene persistence and spread. However, whether the persistence of the blaCTX-M gene in clinical Enterobacteriaceae is related to the interaction of coresident nonresistance-conferring plasmids has not been reported. This study was initiated to elucidate how a nonresistance-conferring IncI1 plasmid affected the blaCTX-M-bearing IncFII plasmid colocated on the same cell. Herein, we constructed three isogenic derivatives of E. coli C600, designated as C600FII, C600I1, and C600FII+I1, which harbored the blaCTX-M-IncFII plasmid and/or the nonresistance-IncI1 one. We discovered that strain C600FII+I1 conferred higher fitness advantages than strain C600FII; also, the stability of the blaCTX-M-IncFII plasmid was noticeably improved in an antibiotic-free environment when it coexisted with the IncI1 plasmid. To further explore why the IncI1 plasmid enhanced the persistence of the blaCTX-M-IncFII plasmid, we assessed the blaCTX-M-IncFII plasmid's copy numbers, conjugation frequencies, and rep gene expressions in strains C600FII and C600FII+I1. The results demonstrated that the rep expressions of the blaCTX-M-IncFII plasmid in strain C600FII+I1 was greatly decreased, along with the plasmid’s copy numbers and mating efficiencies, compared to those in strain C600FII. Moreover, further study revealed that the intracellular ATP levels of strain C600FII+I1 were far lower than those of strain C600FII. Our findings confirmed that coexistence of the nonresistance-IncI1 plasmid can keep the blaCTX-M-IncFII plasmid more stable by increasing the fitness advantages of the host bacteria, which will pose a threat to preventing the long-term presence of the plasmid-carried blaCTX-M gene in clinical Enterobacteriaceae.IMPORTANCESo far, plasmid-carried blaCTX-M is still the most common extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) genotype in clinical settings worldwide. Except for the widespread use of third-generation cephalosporins, the interaction between coexisting plasmids can also affect the long-term stable existence of the blaCTX-M gene; however, the study on that is still sparse. In the present study, we assess the interaction of coinhabitant plasmids blaCTX-M-IncFII and nonresistance-IncI1. Our results confirmed that the increased fitness advantages of strain C600FII+I1 were attributable to the cohabitant nonresistance-IncI1 plasmid, which largely reduced the intracellular ATP levels of host bacteria, thus decreasing the rep gene expression of the blaCTX-M-IncFII plasmid, its copy numbers, and mating efficiencies, while the higher fitness advantages of strain C600FII+I1 enhanced the persistence of the blaCTX-M-IncFII plasmid. The results indicate that the nonresistance-IncI1 plasmid contributes to the long-term existence of the blaCTX-M-IncFII plasmid, implying a potentially new strategy for controlling the spread of resistance plasmids in clinical settings by targeting nonresistance plasmids.

Abstract Background/purpose This study compared the clinical efficacy and safety of laparoscopic versus open resection for hilar cholangiocarcinoma (HCCA) and analyzed potential prognostic factors. Methods The study included patients who underwent HCCA resection at our center from March 2012 to February 2022. Perioperative complications and postoperative prognosis were compared between the laparoscopic surgery (LS) and open surgery (OS) groups. Results After screening 313 HCCA patients, 68 patients were eligible for the study in the LS group (n = 40) and OS group (n = 28). Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis revealed that overall survival > 2 years and 3-year disease-free survival (DFS) were more common in the LS than OS group, but the rate of 2-year DFS was lower in the LS group than OS group. Cox multivariate regression analysis revealed age (< 65 years), radical resection, and postoperative adjuvant therapy were associated with reduced risk of death (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.380, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.150–0.940, P = 0.036; HR = 0.080, 95% CI = 0.010–0.710, P = 0.024 and HR = 0.380, 95% CI = 0.150–0.960, P = 0.040), whereas preoperative biliary drainage was an independent factor associated with increased risk of death (HR = 2.810, 95% CI = 1.130–6.950, P = 0.026). Perineuronal invasion was identified as an independent risk factor affecting DFS (HR = 5.180, 95% CI = 1.170–22.960, P = 0.030). Abstract Background Pulmonary complications after thoracic surgery are common and associated with significant morbidity and high cost of care. Goal-directed fluid therapy (GDFT) could reduce the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) and facilitate recovery in patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. However, whether GDFT could reduce the incidence of PPCs in patients undergoing thoracic surgery was unclear. The present meta-analysis was designed to assess the impact of Goal-directed Fluid Therapy on PPCs in patients undergoing thoracic surgery. Methods Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing GDFT with other conventional fluid management strategies in adult patients undergoing thoracic surgery were identified. Databases searched included PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases. Review Manager 5.4 (The Cochrane Collaboration, Oxford, UK) software was used for statistical analysis. Heterogeneity was analyzed using I2 statistics, and a standardized mean difference with 95% CI and P value was used to calculate the treatment effect for outcome variables. The primary study outcomes were the incidence of PPCs. Secondary outcomes were the total volume infused, the length of hospitalization, the incidence of cardiac complications, and the incidence of renal dysfunction. Subgroup analysis was planned to verify the definite role of GDFT. Results A total of 6 RCTs consisting of 680 patients were included in this meta-analysis, which revealed that GDFT did not reduce the incidence of PPCs in patients undergoing thoracic surgery (RR, 0.57; 95% CI 0.29–1.14). However, GDFT decreased the total intra-operative fluid input (MD, − 244.40 ml; 95% CI − 397.06 to − 91.74). There was no statistical difference in the duration of hospitalization (MD; − 1.31, 95% CI − 3.00 to 0.38), incidence of renal dysfunction (RR, 0.62; 95% CI 0.29–1.35), and incidence of cardiac complications (RR, 0.62; 95% CI 0.27–1.40). Conclusions The results of this meta-analysis indicate that GDFT did not reduce the postoperative incidence of pulmonary complications in individuals undergoing thoracic surgery. However, considering the small number of contributing studies, these results should be interpreted with caution.

Abstract The weakening of hillslopes during strong earthquakes increases landsliding rates in post-seismic periods. However, very few studies have addressed the amount of coseismic reduction in shear strength of hillslope materials. This makes estimation of post-seismic landslide susceptibility challenging. Here we propose a method to quantify the maximum shear-strength reduction expected on seismically disturbed hillslopes. We focus on a subset of the area affected by the 2008 Mw 7.9 Wenchuan, China earthquake. We combine physical and data-driven modeling approaches. First, we back-analyze shear-strength reduction at locations where post-seismic landslides occurred. Second, we regress the estimated shear-strength reduction against peak ground acceleration, local relief, and topographic position index to extrapolate the shear-strength reduction over the entire study area. Our results show a maximum of 60%–75% reduction in near-surface shear strength over a peak ground acceleration range of 0.5–0.9 g. Reduction percentages can be generalized using a data-driven model.

Abstract Background China is a country burdened with a high incidence of both tuberculosis (TB) and HIV, Paradoxical tuberculosis-associated immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (TB-IRIS) is an important early complication in TB and HIV co-infected patients, but data from China are limited. Additionally, as an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI)-based antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimen becomes the first-line treatment, concerns have arisen regarding the potential increase in the incidence of paradoxical TB-IRIS. Nevertheless, the existing data are inconclusive and contradictory. Methods We conducted a retrospective study at Chongqing Public Health Clinical Center from January 2018 to December 2021. We collected demographic and clinical data of HIV/TB co-infected patients who initiated ART. We described the patient characteristics, identified predictors for TB-IRIS, and determined clinical outcomes. The Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS 25) was used to analyse the data. Continuous variables were compared using Student’s t-test or rank sum test. Counting data were compared using the chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test. The variables with statistical significance in the univariate analysis were added to the binary logistic regression. A p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results A total of 384 patients co-infected with naive HIV and pulmonary TB (PTB) who were given ATT and ART combination were included. 72 patients (18.8%) developed paradoxical TB-IRIS with a median of 15 (12, 21) days after initiating ART. Baseline age ≤ 40years, CD4 + T-cell counts ≤ 50cells/µL, HIV viral load ≥ 500,000 copies/mL were found to be significantly associated with development of paradoxical TB-IRIS. Mortality rates were similar in the TB-IRIS (n = 5, 6.9%) group and non-TB-IRIS (n = 13, 4.2%) group. Interestingly, CD4+ T-cell counts recovery post-ART was significant higher in the TB-IRIS group when compared to the non-TB-IRIS group at the end of 24 weeks (P = 0.004), as well as at 48 weeks (P = 0.015). In addition, we consider that INSTI- based ART regimen do not increased the risk of Paradoxical TB-IRIS. Conclusion Paradoxical TB-IRIS, while often leading to clinical deterioration and hospitalization, is generally manageable. It appears to have a positive impact on the recovery of CD4 + T-cell counts over time. Importantly, our data suggest that INSTI-based ART regimens do not elevate the risk of TB-IRIS. Thus, paradoxical TB-IRIS should not be considered an impediment to initiating ART in adults with advanced immunodeficiency, except in the case of tuberculous meningitis (TBM).

Abstract Background Metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5) is involved in regulating integrative brain function and synaptic transmission. Aberrant mGluR5 signaling and relevant synaptic failure play a key role in the initial pathophysiological mechanism of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The study aims to investigate the association between mGluR5 availability and AD’s biomarkers and cognitive function. Methods We examined 35 individuals with mGluR5 tracer [18F]PSS232 to assess mGluR5 availability, and with [18F]Florbetapir PET to assess global amyloid deposition, and [18F]FDG PET to assess glucose metabolism. The plasma neurofilament light (NfL) and p-tau181 levels in a subset of individuals were measured (n = 27). The difference in mGluR5 availability between the AD and normal control (NC) groups was explored. The associations of mGluR5 availability with amyloid deposition, glucose metabolism, gray matter volume (GMV), neuropsychological assessment scores, and plasma biomarkers were analyzed. Results The mGluR5 availability was significantly reduced in AD patients’ hippocampus and parahippocampal gyrus compared to NCs. Global amyloid deposition was positively associated with mGluR5 availability in the AD group and reversely associated in the NC group. The mGluR5 availability was positively correlated with regional glucose metabolism in the overall and stratified analyses. The availability of mGluR5 in the hippocampus and parahippocampal gyrus demonstrated a strong relationship with the GMV of the medial temporal lobe, plasma p-tau181 or NfL levels, and global cognitive performance. Conclusions [18F]PSS232 PET can quantify the changes of mGluR5 availability in the progression of AD. mGluR5 availability correlated not only with neuropathological biomarkers of AD but also with neurodegenerative biomarkers and cognitive performance. mGluR5 may be a novel neurodegenerative biomarker, and whether mGluR5 could be a potential therapeutic target for AD needs to be further studied.

Abstract Exploring the dynamic structural evolution of electrocatalysts during reactions represents a fundamental objective in the realm of electrocatalytic mechanism research. In pursuit of this objective, we synthesized PhenPtCl2 nanosheets, revealing a N2-Pt-Cl2 coordination structure through various characterization techniques. Remarkably, the electrocatalytic performance of these PhenPtCl2 nanosheets for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) surpasses that of the commercial Pt/C catalyst across the entire pH range. Furthermore, our discovery of the dynamic coordination changes occurring in the N2-Pt-Cl2 active sites during the electrocatalytic process, as clarified through in situ Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, is particularly noteworthy. These changes transition from Phen-Pt-Cl2 to Phen-Pt-Cl and ultimately to Phen-Pt. The Phen-Pt intermediate plays a pivotal role in the electrocatalytic HER, dynamically coordinating with Cl- ions in the electrolyte. Additionally, the unsaturated, two-coordinated Pt within Phen-Pt provides additional space and electrons to enhance both H+ adsorption and H2 evolution. This research illuminates the intricate dynamic coordination evolution and structural adaptability of PhenPtCl2 nanosheets, firmly establishing them as a promising candidate for efficient and tunable electrocatalysts.

Abstract Face recognition systems are susceptible to adversarial attacks, where adversarial facial images are generated without awareness of the intrinsic attributes of the images in existing works. They change only a single attribute indiscriminately. To this end, we propose a new Semantic Adversarial Attack using StarGAN (SAA-StarGAN), which manipulates the facial attributes that are significant for each image. Specifically, we apply the cosine similarity or probability score to predict the most significant attributes. In the probability score method, we train the face verification model to perform an attribute prediction task to get a class probability score for each attribute. Then, we calculate the degree of change in the probability value in an image before and after altering the attribute. Therefore, we perform the prediction process and then alter either one or more of the most significant facial attributes under white-box or black-box settings. Experimental results illustrate that SAA-StarGAN outperforms transformation-based, gradient-based, stealthy-based, and patch-based attacks under impersonation and dodging attacks. Besides, our method achieves high attack success rates on various models in the black-box setting. In the end, the experiments confirm that the prediction of the most important attributes significantly impacts the success of adversarial attacks in both white-box and black-box settings and could improve the transferability of the generated adversarial examples.

Quantitative analysis of coal maceral is crucial for objectively evaluating the properties and quality of coal, thereby enabling its efficient utilization. However, due to irregularities in operation or broken tools, it is easy to cause the scratch of the polished grain mounts, which affects the further automatic analysis, and the re-making of the polished grain mounts will cause the waste of manpower and resources. In view of this, in order to repair scratch areas in coal photomicrographs, a deep learning-based photomicrographs scratch detection and repair strategy is proposed. Firstly, a dual-attention model combining spatial attention and channel attention is designed for scratch detection, which fully mines the semantic information of coal photomicrographs and integrates it with U-Net semantic segmentation network to improve the accuracy of scratch detection. Then, to address the issue of texture differences between the scratch-removed areas and surrounding areas in image repair algorithms based on patch matching, a coal photomicrographs restoration network combining contextual attention and generative adversarial learning is designed. The network adaptively fills the scratched area of coal with reasonable content and improves the quality of image restoration. Experimental results show that the average pixel accuracy and mean Intersection over Union for scratch detection reached 90.93% and 83.95%, respectively, while the peak signal-to-noise ratio and structural similarity (SSIM) of the repaired images reached 43.29 dB and 99.32%, respectively. Compared to traditional patch-matching-based algorithms, these represent improvements of 8.76 dB and 1.65%, respectively, verifying the effectiveness of the proposed scratch detection and repair method.

AbstractThis study was aimed to develop an efficient tumour-targeted liposome nanobubbles (LNBs) system using ultrasound-targeted nanobubble destruction for enhanced release and transfection of miRNA-199a-3p in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) therapy. The prepared LNBs comprised a polyethylene glycol-modified liposome shell and a perfluoropentane (PFP) core. MiRNA-199a-3p was attached to the nanocomposite surface via electrostatic adsorption, while RGD peptide functionalized the LNBs surface for enhanced HCC cell targeting, namely PFP@miR-RGD-LNBs. The LNBs were spherical with a narrow size distribution. The gene-loaded LNBs effectively condensed miR-199a-3p and protected it from enzymatic degradation. Low-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) promoted a fast release of miR-199a-3p from the prepared LNBs, thereby enhancing therapeutic effects. The combined application of PFP@miR-RGD-LNBs and LIFU exhibited a more potent inhibitory effect on HepG2 cells than the other groups, potentially due to LIFU promoting rapid and efficient gene release at the target site and increasing cell membrane permeability. Quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction analysis revealed significantly increased mRNA expression levels of key apoptosis markers (Bad, Bax, Caspase-9 and Caspase-3) in the PFP@miR-RGD-LNBs + LIFU group compared to other groups. These findings suggest that the prepared LNBs are highly likely to be promising candidates for further exploration of HCC gene delivery and therapy.

Background: Gastrointestinal (GI) angiodysplasias is a potential cause of life-threatening bleeding. Thalidomide may have a certain effect on the treatment. Objectives: We aim to evaluate the efficacy and safety of thalidomide and used trial sequential analysis (TSA) to assess the need for further randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Design: Meta-analysis of RCTs. Data sources and methods: We systematically searched Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Embase, WanFang, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases for RCTs evaluating thalidomide in GI angiodysplasias without language restrictions. We used a random-effects model to obtain pool data and followed Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation framework. TSA was employed to control the risk of random errors and to evaluate the validity of our conclusions. Results: Three RCTs were included involving 279 patients with the proportion of small intestinal angiodysplasias of 87.1%. Thalidomide led to improved mean change of hemoglobin level [mean difference (MD): 3.06, 95% confidence interval: 2.66–3.46] without severe adverse effects occurring. Other secondary endpoints, including effective response rate, cessation of bleeding after treatment, hospitalization rate because of bleeding, change in duration of hospital stays for bleeding, transfused red cell requirements, and overall adverse effects, also showed significantly better outcomes in the thalidomide group compared to the control group. TSA for all outcomes exceeded required information sizes, and cumulative Z curve all traverse trial sequential monitoring boundary. Conclusion: Almost all of the evidence was of moderate quality, suggesting that thalidomide holds promise for treating GI angiodysplasias, with favorable safety profiles. TSA suggests that conducting large-scale real-world research is recommended over relying solely on RCTs conducted within the same population and trial design. ABSTRACT: Extended-spectrum-β-lactamases (ESBLs)-producing Escherichia coli conferred resistance to most β-lactams, except for carbapenems. To date, the transmission mechanism of blaCTX-M, as the most common ESBLs subtype, in E. coli has received sustained attention around the worldwide, but the research on the pathogenicity of blaCTX-M-bearing E. coli is still scarce. The aims of this study were to discern the spread characteristics of ColV (encoding colicin V) plasmids in blaCTX-M-positive E. coli. The multi-drug resistance traits, phylogroups, and ColV plasmid profilings were screened in 76 blaCTX-M-positive E. coli. Thereafter, the genetic profiles of E. coli G12 and GZM7 were determined by whole genome sequencing, conjugation and S1-pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. The median lethal dose was analyzed in E. coli G12 and TG12A, the ColV-plasmid transconjugant of G12. Of all 76 blaCTX-M-bearing E. coli, 67.11% exhibited resistance to at least 2 drugs in addition to ceftiofur, 14.47% carried ColV-positive plasmids, and 53.95% were phylogroup C. Further studies demonstrated that the blaCTX-M-bearing E. coli G12 was assigned to the predominant lineage O78:H4-ST117 of phylogroup G. In addition, its ColV-positive plasmid simultaneously carried multiple resistance genes, and could be independently transferred to confer partial pathogenicity on its host by plasmid mating. E. coli GZM7 was O53:H9-ST23 of phylogroup C, which belonged to another representative lineage of APEC (avian pathogenic E. coli). Its ColV-positive plasmid could complete conjugation with the help of the other coexisting-resistance conjugative plasmid, although it failed to transfer alone. Our findings highlight the flexibly horizontal transfer of ColV plasmids along with multidrug-resistant genes among blaCTX-M-bearing E. coli poses a threat to poultry health and food safety, which contributes to elucidate the concept of “One Health” and deserves particular concern.

The traditional visual tree assessment method is subjective in evaluating tree risks and therefore not effective in precisely detecting internal decay in tree trunk and root systems. To improve the accuracy of street tree risk assessment, a new nondestructive testing method was proposed. This new tree risk assessment method combines different non-destructive testing technologies, such as sonic tomography and ground-penetrating radar, which could significantly increase the accuracy of risk assessment in tree trunks and roots. The method was applied to evaluate the risk of 1,001 street trees in Shanghai’s historical feature protection area. The results revealed that despite most street trees having low branch and trunk risk levels, more than one-third had high root risk levels. The risk factors of street trees were mainly in the trunk and root system, with a significant correlation between the street tree risk level and tree cavities, diseases, and insect pests, as well as the depth and range of the root distribution, leaning, and internal decay in trunks. With the help of non-destructive testing and risk assessment analysis, as well as targeted prevention measures, the possibility of street risk damage was largely reduced, including street trees tilting and collapsing during typhoons, etc.

Background and aims:High-dose Obeticholic acid exhibits promise for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) treatment but can induce lipotoxicity. Our study sought to understand this mechanism and propose a solution.Approach and Results:In a non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) model induced by a high-fat diet in FXR−/− mice, we pinpointed that FXR regulated the expression of ACOX1 through RNA-Seq analysis. In the livers of FXR−/− mice, both ACOX1 mRNA and protein expression notably decreased. In both HL-7702 and HEP-G2 cells, the silencing of FXR through shRNA plasmids decreased ACOX1 expression, while FXR activation with GW4064 increased it. These effects were reversible with the ACOX1-specific inhibitor, 10,12-Tricosadiynoic acid. In the NAFLD model of FXR−/− mice, The activation of ACOX1 is correlated with elevated serum LDL, triglycerides, and aggravated hepatic steatosis. However, the combination of 10,12-Tricosadiynoic acid with low-dose obeticholic acid effectively treated hepatic steatosis, reducing LDL levels in the NAFLD model of wild-type mice. This combination therapy demonstrated efficacy comparable to high-dose obeticholic acid alone. Notably, the combined drug regimen treats hepatic steatosis by inhibiting the IL-1β and α-SMA pathways in NAFLD.Conclusion:Combining ACOX1-specific inhibitors with low-dose obeticholic acid effectively treats high-fat diet-induced hepatic steatosis and reduces serum LDL. This approach enhances the therapeutic effects of obeticholic acid and mitigates its lipotoxicity by inhibiting the IL-1β and α-SMA pathways.

As a critical factor in tunnel fire safety, previous research on model predictions of the maximum ceiling gas temperature rise under natural ventilation has not demonstrated consistent results. These discrepancies are commonly attributed to variations in tunnel dimensions and materials. To address this issue, an experimental investigation utilizing heptane pool fires with different dimensions was conducted in a model-scale tunnel. The results show that the burning rate increases with an increasing aspect ratio of the fire source for the selected diameter range of 0.078–0.169 m. The flame length was characterized using a modified diameter of the fire source considering the air entrainment, and found that the non-dimensional flame length is 2.4 times the 2/5th power of the non-dimensional heat release rate. Finally, incorporating the concept of flame virtual origin, two different forms of correlations were developed to quantify the maximum ceiling gas temperature rise under different impingement conditions of the fire plume, and the coefficients were determined as 0.065 and 0.215 by numerous experimental results from different studies. The newly proposed models demonstrate good applicability to the fire sources with different dimensions, especially for the rectangular fire source with a large aspect ratio, thus solving the problem of insufficient accuracy of classical models under this condition.

Abstract The thriving field of atomic defect engineering towards advanced electrocatalysis relies on the critical role of electric field polarization at the atomic scale. While this is proposed theoretically, the spatial configuration, orientation, and correlation with specific catalytic properties of materials are yet to be understood. Here, by targeting monolayer MoS2 rich in atomic defects, we pioneer the direct visualization of electric field polarization of such atomic defects by combining advanced electron microscopy with differential phase contrast technology. It is revealed that the asymmetric charge distribution caused by the polarization facilitates the adsorption of H*, which originally activates the atomic defect sites for catalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Then, it has been experimentally proven that atomic-level polarization in electric fields can enhance catalytic HER activity. This work bridges the long-existing gap between the atomic defects and advanced electrocatalysis by directly revealing the angstrom-scale electric field polarization and correlating it with the as-tuned catalytic properties of materials; the methodology proposed here could also inspire future studies focusing on catalytic mechanism understanding and structure-property-performance relationship.

Through the study of organic matter enrichment, hydrocarbon generation and accumulation process of black shale of the Cretaceous Qingshankou Formation in the Songliao Basin, the enrichment mechanism of Gulong shale oil and the distribution of conventional–unconventional oil are revealed. The Songliao Basin is a huge interior lake basin formed in the Early Cretaceous under the control of the subduction and retreat of the western Pacific plate and the massive horizontal displacement of the Tanlu Fault Zone in Northeast China. During the deposition of the Qingshankou Formation, strong terrestrial hydrological cycle led to the lake level rise of the ancient Songliao Basin and the input of a large amount of nutrients, resulting in planktonic bacteria and algae flourish. Intermittent seawater intrusion events promoted the formation of salinization stratification and anoxic environment in the lake, which were beneficial to the enrichment of organic matters. Biomarkers analysis confirms that the biogenic organic matter of planktonic bacteria and algae modified by microorganisms plays an important role in the formation of high-quality source rocks with high oil generation capability. There are four favorable conditions for the enrichment of light shale oil in the Qingshankou Formation of the Gulong Sag, Songliao Basin: the moderate organic matter abundance and high oil potential provide sufficient material basis for oil enrichment; high degree of thermal evolution makes shale oil have high GOR and good mobility; low hydrocarbon expulsion efficiency leads to a high content of retained hydrocarbons in the source rock; and the confinement effect of intra-layer cement in the high maturity stage induces the efficient accumulation of light shale oil. The restoration of hydrocarbon accumulation process suggests that liquid hydrocarbons generated in the early (low–medium maturity) stage of the Qingshankou Formation source rocks accumulated in placanticline and slope after long-distance secondary migration, forming high-quality conventional and tight oil reservoirs. Light oil generated in the late (medium–high maturity) stage accumulated in situ, forming about 15 billion tons of Gulong shale oil resources, which finally enabled the orderly distribution of conventional–unconventional oils that are contiguous horizontally and superposed vertically within the basin, showing a complete pattern of “whole petroleum system” with conventional oil, tight oil and shale oil in sequence.

Abstract Sepsis is a serious complication of liver cirrhosis. This study aimed to develop a risk prediction model for sepsis among patients with liver cirrhosis. A total of 3130 patients with liver cirrhosis were enrolled from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV database, and randomly assigned into training and validation cohorts in a 7:3 ratio. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression was used to filter variables and select predictor variables. Multivariate logistic regression was used to establish the prediction model. Based on LASSO and multivariate logistic regression, gender, base excess, bicarbonate, white blood cells, potassium, fibrinogen, systolic blood pressure, mechanical ventilation, and vasopressor use were identified as independent risk variables, and then a nomogram was constructed and validated. The consistency index (C‐index), receiver operating characteristic curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to measure the predictive performance of the nomogram. As a result of the nomogram, good discrimination was achieved, with C‐indexes of 0.814 and 0.828 for the training and validation cohorts, respectively, and an area under the curve of 0.849 in the training cohort and 0.821 in the validation cohort. The calibration curves demonstrated good agreement between the predictions and observations. The DCA curves showed the nomogram had significant clinical value. We developed and validated a risk‐prediction model for sepsis in patients with liver cirrhosis. This model can assist clinicians in the early detection and prevention of sepsis in patients with liver cirrhosis.

The clay mineral content of Daqing Gulong shale is in the range of about 35%–45%, with particle sizes less than 0.0039 mm. The horizontal fluidity of oil in Gulong shale is poor, with near-zero vertical flowability. As a result, Gulong shale has been considered to lack commercial value. In recent years, however, interdisciplinary research in geoscience, percolation mechanics, thermodynamics, and surface mechanics has demonstrated that Gulong shale oil has a high degree of maturity and a high residual hydrocarbon content. The expulsion efficiency of Gulong shale in the high mature stage is 32%–48%. Favorable storage spaces in Gulong shale include connecting pores and lamellar fractures developed between and within organic matter and clay mineral complexes. The shale oil mainly occurs in micro- and nano-pores, bedding fractures, and lamellar fractures, with a high gas–oil ratio and medium–high movable oil saturation. Gulong shale has the characteristics of high hardness, a high elastic modulus, and high fracture toughness. This study achieves breakthroughs in the exploration and development of Gulong shale, including the theories of hydrocarbon generation and accumulation, the technologies of mobility and fracturing, and recoverability. It confirms the major transition of Gulong shale from oil generation to oil production, which has extremely significant scientific value and application potential for China’s petroleum industry.

Abstract Objective To investigate the influencing factors affecting the occurrence of microvascular invasion (MVI) and the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients treated with hepatectomy, and to explore how MVI affects prognosis in subgroups with different prognostic factors. Methods Clinical data of a total of 1633 patients treated surgically for HCC in four treatment centers were included, including 754 patients with MVI. By using the Cox risk regression model and the Mann–Whitney U‐test, the common independent influences on prognosis and MVI were made clear. The incidence of MVI in various subgroups was then examined, as well as the relationship between MVI in various subgroups and prognosis. Results The Cox risk regression model showed that MVI, Child–Pugh classification, alpha‐fetoprotein (AFP), hepatocirrhosis, tumor diameter, lymphocyte‐to‐monocyte ratio (LMR), and, Barcelona clinic liver cancer (BCLC) grade were independent determinants of overall survival (OS), and MVI, AFP, hepatocirrhosis, tumor diameter, and LMR were influencing determinants for disease‐free survival (DFS). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve showed that MVI was most closely associated with patient prognosis compared to other prognostic factors. AFP, hepatocirrhosis, tumor diameter, and LMR were discovered to be common influences on the prognosis of patients with HCC and MVI when combined with the results of the intergroup comparison of MVI. After grouping, it was showed that patients with hepatocirrhosis, positive AFP (AFP ≥ 20 ng/mL), tumor diameter >50 mm, and LMR ≤3.4 had a significantly higher incidence of MVI than patients in other subgroups, and all four subgroups of MVI‐positive patients had higher rates of early recurrence and mortality (p 50 mm, and LMR ≤3.4, and the prognosis of MVI‐positive patients in all four subgroups tended to be worse.

Objectives This study aimed to describe the genetic and clinical characteristics of paediatric cardiomyopathy in a cohort of Chinese patients.Methods We retrospectively reviewed the clinical history and mutation spectrum of 75 unrelated Chinese paediatric patients who were diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and referred to our hospital between January 2016 and December 2022.Results Seventy-five children with cardiomyopathy were enrolled, including 32 (42.7%) boys and 43 (57.3%) girls. Dilated cardiomyopathy was the most prevalent cardiomyopathy (61.3%) in the patients, followed by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (17.3%), ventricular non-compaction (14.7%), restrictive cardiomyopathy (5.3%) and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (1.3%). Whole-exome sequencing and targeted next-generation sequencing identified 34 pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants and 1 copy number variant in 14 genes related to cardiomyopathy in 30 children, accounting for 40% of all patients. TNNC1 p.Asp65Asn and MYH7 p.Glu500Lys have not been reported previously. The follow-up time ranged from 2 months to 6 years. Twenty-two children died (mortality rate 29%).Conclusions Comprehensive genetic testing was associated with a 40% yield of causal genetic mutations in Chinese cardiomyopathy cases. We found diversity in the mutation profile in different patients, which suggests that the mutational background of cardiomyopathy in China is heterogeneous, and the findings may be helpful to those counselling patients and families.

Background and aimStandardized approach to postoperative adjuvant therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains elusive. This study endeavors to examine the effects of postoperative PD-1 adjuvant therapy on the short-term and long-term prognosis of patients at a heightened risk of post-surgical recurrence.MethodsThe data of HCC patients who underwent hepatectomy at our center from June 2018 to March 2023 were collected from the hospital database. Propensity score matching (PSM) was employed to perform a 1:1 match between the postoperative anti-PD-1 antibody group and the postoperative non-anti-PD-1 antibody group. Kaplan-Meier method was utilized to compare the overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) between the two groups. Cox regression analysis was conducted to identify the prognostic factors affecting patient outcomes. Subgroup analyses were performed for different high-risk factors.ResultsAmong the 446 patients included in the study, 122 patients received adjuvant therapy with postoperative anti-PD-1 antibodies. After PSM, the PD-1 group had postoperative 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, and 4-year OS rates of 93.1%, 86.8%, 78.2%, and 51.1%, respectively, while the non-PD-1 group had rates of 85.3%, 70.2%, 47.7%, and 30.0%. The PD-1 group had postoperative 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, and 4-year RFS rates of 81.7%, 77.0%, 52.3%, and 23.1%, respectively, whereas the non-PD-1 group had rates of 68.4%, 47.7%, and 25.8% in 1-year, 2-year, 3-year. A multifactorial Cox regression analysis revealed that postoperative PD-1 use was a prognostic protective factor associated with OS and RFS. Subgroup analysis results indicated that HCC patients with high recurrence risks significantly benefited from postoperative anti-PD-1 antibody treatment in terms of OS and RFS.ConclusionFor HCC patients with high-risk recurrence factors and undergoing hepatectomy, postoperative adjuvant therapy with anti-PD-1 antibodies can effectively improve their survival prognosis.

Abstract Nanoparticles with high-index facets are intriguing because such facets can lend the structure useful functionality, including enhanced catalytic performance and wide-ranging optical tunability. Ligand-free solid-state syntheses of high index-facet nanoparticles, through an alloying-dealloying process with foreign volatile metals, are attractive owing to their materials generality and high yields. However, the role of foreign atoms in stabilizing the high-index facets and the dynamic nature of the transformation including the coarsening and facet regulation process are still poorly understood. Herein, the transformation of Pt salts to spherical seeds and then to tetrahexahedra, is studied in situ via gas-cell transmission electron microscopy. The dynamic behaviors of the alloying and dealloying process, which involves the coarsening of nanoparticles and consequent facet regulation stage are captured in the real time with a nanoscale spatial resolution. Based on additional direct evidence obtained using atom probe tomography and density functional theory calculations, the underlying mechanisms of the alloying-dealloying process are uncovered, which will facilitate broader explorations of high-index facet nanoparticle synthesis.

The geological characteristics and production practices of the major middle- and high-maturity shale oil exploration areas in China are analyzed. Combined with laboratory results, it is clear that three essential conditions, i.e. economic initial production, commercial cumulative oil production of single well, and large-scale recoverable reserves confirmed by the testing production, determine whether the continental shale oil can be put into large-scale commercial development. The quantity and quality of movable hydrocarbons are confirmed to be crucial to economic development of shale oil, and focuses in evaluation of shale oil enrichment area/interval. The evaluation indexes of movable hydrocarbon enrichment include: (1) the material basis for forming retained hydrocarbon, including TOC>2% (preferentially 3%–4%), and type I–II1 kerogens; (2) the mobility of retained hydrocarbon, which is closely related to the hydrocarbon composition and flow behaviors of light/heavy components, and can be evaluated from the perspectives of thermal maturity (Ro), gas-oil ratio (GOR), crude oil density, quality of hydrocarbon components, preservation conditions; and (3) the reservoir characteristics associated with the engineering reconstruction, including the main pore throat distribution zone, reservoir physical properties (including fractures), lamellation feature and diagenetic stage, etc. Accordingly, 13 evaluation indexes in three categories and their reference values are established. The evaluation indicates that the light shale oil zones in the Gulong Sag of Songliao Basin have the most favorable enrichment conditions of movable hydrocarbons, followed by light oil and black oil zones, containing 20.8×108 t light oil resources in reservoirs with Ro>1.2%, pressure coefficient greater than 1.4, effective porosity greater than 6%, crude oil density less than 0.82 g/cm3, and GOR>100 m3/m3. The shale oil in the Gulong Sag can be explored and developed separately by the categories (resource sweet spot, engineering sweet spot, and tight oil sweet spot) depending on shale oil flowability. The Gulong Sag is the most promising area to achieve large-scale breakthrough and production of continental shale oil in China.

The parameters of gravity dams and foundation materials objectively exhibit spatial variability due to environmental and load influences, which significantly affect the safety status of dam structures. Therefore, a safety risk analysis method for a gravity dam–foundation system based on random field theory is proposed in this paper. Spatial variabilities in materials are particularly considered by using the finite element method. Then, composite response surface equations for the performance function (PF) of strength and stability failure are established, and then, the system failure risk is obtained using the Monte Carlo method. The proposed method solves the problem wherein the effect of spatial variability on failure risk cannot be reflected accurately by the performance function of multi-element sliding paths, and the difficulties in solving the failure risk of the series–parallel system due to multiple failure paths and their complex correlations. The application of a gravity dam shows that the developed method overcomes the disadvantages of the traditional method, such as the homogenization of the spatially random characteristics of parameters and the overestimation of failure risk in the system due to large variance estimation.

Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a cholestatic liver disease characterized by immune-mediated injury to small bile ducts. Although PBC is an autoimmune disease, the effectiveness of conventional immunosuppressive therapy is disappointing. Nearly 40% of PBC patients do not respond to the first-line drug UDCA. Without appropriate intervention, PBC patients eventually progress to liver cirrhosis and even death. There is an urgent need to develop new therapies. The gut–liver axis emphasizes the interconnection between the gut and the liver, and evidence is increasing that gut microbiota and bile acids play an important role in the pathogenesis of cholestatic diseases. Dysbiosis of gut microbiota, imbalance of bile acids, and immune-mediated bile duct injury constitute the triad of pathophysiology in PBC. Autoimmune cholangitis has the potential to be improved through immune system modulation. Considering the failure of conventional immunotherapies and the involvement of gut microbiota and bile acids in the pathogenesis, targeting immune factors associated with them, such as bile acid receptors, microbial-derived molecules, and related specific immune cells, may offer breakthroughs. Understanding the gut microbiota–bile acid network and related immune dysfunctions in PBC provides a new perspective on therapeutic strategies. Therefore, we summarize the latest advances in research of gut microbiota and bile acids in PBC and, for the first time, explore the possibility of related immune factors as novel immunotherapy targets. This article discusses potential therapeutic approaches focusing on regulating gut microbiota, maintaining bile acid homeostasis, their interactions, and related immune factors.

The investigation of reactivated landslides in the alpine-canyon areas suffers the difficult accessibility of precipitous terrain. In particular, when reactivated landslides occur along the major roads, efforts are focused on measuring ground surface displacements during road construction. Nevertheless, the ancient landslide deposits may reactivate after several years of road operation, while they show a stable state during the road construction. The characterization of this type of reactivated landslides is challenging, due to their complex mechanism and the limited monitoring data. Appropriate multi-source data can provide insights into deformation fields and enhance the understanding of landslide mechanisms, ensuring the outperformance of remedial works. This paper reports a recent Tangjiawan reactivated landslide along the Wenchuan-Maerkang Highway in Li County, China. The outcomes, including satellite InSAR, in situ real-time monitoring, and detailed ground and UAV investigation, conducted at this landslide are presented. Early deformation of the reactivated landslide began from 2019, with an InSAR-derived velocity of −11.7 mm/year, furthermore, a significant subsidence of about 21.2 mm, which occurred within a span of only 12 days from 3 June 2020 to 15 June 2020, was observed. The deformation characteristics derived from in situ monitoring during the remedial works were likely firstly associated with the initial unreinforced slope condition and the heavy rainfall. Subsequently, the displacement evolution transformed into deformation induced by time-dependent reduction in slope strength under rainfall conditions. The existing of unconsolidated deposits derived from ancient landslides, along with a fragile geo-structure consisting of rock blocks and gravels interlayered with breccias, exacerbated by large relief created a predisposition for landslide reactivation. Furthermore, 13 days of antecedent cumulative rainfall totaling 224.5 mm directly triggered the occurrence of a landslide event. The significance and implications of integrating multiple monitoring techniques are emphasized.

Abstract. Background:. Early fluid resuscitation is one of the fundamental treatments for acute pancreatitis (AP), but there is no consensus on the optimal fluid rate. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of aggressive vs. controlled fluid resuscitation (CFR) in AP. Methods:. The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched up to September 30, 2022, for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing aggressive with controlled rates of early fluid resuscitation in AP patients without organ failure on admission. The following keywords were used in the search strategy: "pancreatitis," "fluid therapy,""fluid resuscitation,"and "randomized controlled trial." There was no language restriction. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) framework was used to assess the certainty of evidence. Trial sequential analysis (TSA) was used to control the risk of random errors and assess the conclusions. Results:. A total of five RCTs, involving 481 participants, were included in this study. Abstract Background The survival benefit of adjuvant transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in patients with hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after hepatectomy remains controversial. We aimed to investigate the survival efficacy of adjuvant TACE after hepatectomy for HCC. Methods 1491 patients with HCC who underwent hepatectomy between January 2018 and September 2021 at four medical centers in China were retrospectively analyzed, including 782 patients who received adjuvant TACE and 709 patients who did not receive adjuvant TACE. Propensity score matching (PSM) (1:1) was performed to minimize selection bias, which balanced the clinical characteristics of the two groups. Results A total of 1254 patients were enrolled after PSM, including 627 patients who received adjuvant TACE and 627 patients who did not receive adjuvant TACE. BackgroundThe optimal local treatment for HCC with tumor diameter ≥ 5 cm is not well established. This research evaluated the effectiveness of external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) versus transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for HCC with tumor diameter ≥ 5 cm.MethodsA total of 1210 HCC patients were enrolled in this study, including 302 and 908 patients that received EBRT and TACE, respectively. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to identify patient pairs with similar baseline characteristics. Overall survival (OS) was the primary study endpoint.ResultsWe identified 428 patients using 1:1 PSM for survival comparison. Compared with the TACE group, the EBRT group had a significantly longer median OS (mOS) before (14.9 vs. 12.3 months, p = 0.0085) and after (16.8 vs. 11.4 months, p = 0.0026) matching. In the subgroup analysis, compared with the TACE group, the EBRT group had a significantly longer mOS for HCC with tumor diameters of 5-7 cm (34.1 vs. 14.3 months, p = 0.04) and 7-10 cm (34.4 vs. 10 months, p = 0.00065), whereas for HCC with tumor diameters ≥ 10 cm, no significant difference in mOS was observed (11.2 vs. 11.2 months, p = 0.83). In addition, the multivariable Cox analysis showed that Child-A, alkaline phosphatase < 125 U/L, and EBRT were independent prognostic indicators for longer survival.ConclusionEBRT is more effective than TACE as the primary local treatment for HCC with tumor diameter ≥ 5 cm, especially for HCC with tumor diameter of 5-10 cm.

A series of experiments were carried out within a scaled-down, elongated, and narrow space featuring multiple lateral doors. These experiments aimed to thoroughly examine the fire characteristics both inside the enclosed compartment and within the connected tunnel, which were induced by the fire occurring in the compartment. It shows that the classic maximum temperature model obtained from a single confined space underestimates or overestimates the values in the carriage and tunnel, and the three-region plume law cannot effectively cover the temperature values inside the carriage, the prediction relations for the double confined space scenario are proposed. The rate of temperature decrease beneath the ceiling in the double long-narrow confined space is greater than in a single confined space, with a significantly reduced impact of HRR on the decay rate. The study also provides a segmented characterization of the influence of HRR on temperature attenuation. Additionally, distinct flame extension and spillover patterns are observed at different fire source locations. These include ceiling jet flame overflow primarily from the upper part of the lateral door and direct overflow from the entire door height. The study's findings offer valuable insights for fire assessment and control in complex confined rail systems.

Abstract Background Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are considered significant contributors to cancer progression, especially metastasis. However, it is still unclear whether NETs are involved in hepatitis B virus (HBV)‐related hepatocarcinogenesis and have potential clinical significance during evaluation and management for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this study, we aimed to investigate the functional mechanism of NETs in HBV‐related hepatocarcinogenesis and their clinical significance. Methods A total of 175 HCC patients with and without HBV infection and 58 healthy controls were enrolled in this study. NETs were measured in tissue specimens, freshly isolated neutrophils and blood serum from these patients, and the correlation of circulating serum NETs levels with malignancy was evaluated. The mechanism by which HBV modulates NETs formation was explored using cell‐based studies. In addition, in vitro and in vivo experiments were further performed to clarify the functional mechanism of NETs on the growth and metastasis of HCC. Results We observed an elevated level of NETs in blood serum and tissue specimens from HCC patients, especially those infected with HBV. NETs facilitated the growth and metastasis of HCC both in vitro and in vivo, which were mainly dominated by increased angiogenesis, epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT)‐related cell migration, matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs)‐induced extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation and NETs‐mediated cell trapping. Inhibition of NETs generation by DNase 1 effectively abrogated the NETs‐aroused HCC growth and metastasis. In addition, HBV‐induced S100A9 accelerated the generation of NETs, which was mediated by activation of toll‐like receptor (TLR4)/receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE)‐reactive oxygen species (ROS) signaling. Further, circulatory NETs were found to correlate with viral load, TNM stage and metastasis status in HBV‐related HCC, and the identified NETs could predict extrahepatic metastasis, with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.83 and 90.3% sensitivity and 62.8% specificity at a cutoff value of 0.32. Conclusions Our findings indicated that activation of RAGE/TLR4‐ROS signaling by HBV‐induced S100A9 resulted in abundant NETs formation, which subsequently facilitated the growth and metastasis of HCC cells. More importantly, the identified circulatory NETs exhibited potential as an alternative biomarker for predicting extrahepatic metastasis in HBV‐related HCC.

The lacustrine dark shale deposits of the Upper Cretaceous Qingshankou Formation in the Central Depression of Songliao Basin contain a considerable amount of shale oil resources, among which the shale oil exploration of the Qingshankou Formation in the Qijia-Gulong Sag has made a major breakthrough. In this paper, methods of sealed thermal release, combined with organic solvent extract and Rock-Eval, has been used for the comprehensive evaluation of shale oil-bearing capacity of the Qingshankou Formation. The TOC of shales from the Qingshankou Formation in the study area range from 1.48% to 6.97% with an average value of 3.40%. The values of Tmax range from 440 ℃ to 453 ℃ with an average of 448 ℃ for the samples after extraction, and the production index ranges from 0.28 to 0.67, indicating a middle stage of oil generation window. The shale oil contents of the studied samples range from 4.00 mg/g to 19.49 mg/g with an average value of 13.74 mg/g. The contents of free oil range from 3.41 mg/g to 13.63 mg/g with an average value of 8.70 mg/g; while the content of adsorbed oil ranges from 0.60 mg/g to 9.43 mg/g with an average value of 5.04 mg/g. Free oil is made up of restricted oil and movable oil in the proportion of 1∶1. The content of restricted oil of the studied samples ranges from 1.81 mg/g to 8.49 mg/g with an average of 4.15 mg/g; while the content of movable oil ranges from 1.36 mg/g to 11.05 mg/g with an average of 4.55 mg/g. The movable oil resource is 12 kg/m3 based on the average content of mobile oil, which reveals good resource potential of movable shale oil in the first member of Qing-shankou Formation of the Sanzhao Sag.

Background Insertion/deletion polymorphism (InDel), as the third genetic marker, has been given a lot of attention by forensic geneticists since it has the advantages of extensive distributions in the human genome, small amplicon, and low mutation rate. However, the extant InDel panels were only viewed as supplemental tools for kinship analyses. In addition, these panels were not conductive to mixture deconvolution because InDels in these panels mainly displayed two alleles. Aims The purpose of this study is to investigate genetic distributions of a novel panel of InDels and STRs in the Guizhou Han population; assess the forensic application value of the panel; and conduct population genetic analyses of the Guizhou Han and other reference populations based on the overlapping loci. Subjects and methods The bloodstain samples of 209 Guizhou Han were gathered and genotyped by the novel panel. Allelic frequencies and forensic parameters of two miniSTRs and 59 InDels in the panel were estimated. In addition, we assessed phylogenetic relationships among the Guizhou Han and other reference populations by principal component analysis, DA genetic distance, and neighbor-joining tree. Results A total of 139 alleles of 61 loci could be observed in the Guizhou Han population. Polymorphic information content values of 59 InDels were greater than 0.3 in the Guizhou Han population. The cumulative power of discrimination and probability of exclusion of two miniSTRs and 59 InDels in the Guizhou Han population were 0.999999999999999999999999997984 and 0.9999986, respectively. Principal component analysis of 14 populations showed that the Guizhou Han population located closer to Hunan Han and Southern Han Chinese (CHS) populations. Similar results were also discerned from DA genetic distances and the neighbor-joining tree. Conclusion To sum up, the novel panel could be employed for forensic personal identification and paternity testing in the Guizhou Han population as a promising independent tool. Besides, the principal component analysis and phylogenetic tree of the Guizhou Han and other compared populations revealed that the Guizhou Han population possesses close genetic affinities with Hunan Han, CHS, and Han Chinese in Beijing (CHB) populations.

Electrical environment of residences adjacent to Ultra high voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission lines draws huge attentions as it affects people’s lives. Predicting electric field is a crucial part during the design and environmental impact assessments of HVDC transmission lines. However, traditional methods have difficulty coping with the complex geometry of residences and bundled line conductors simultaneously. To deal with this issue, a line-area element hybrid boundary element method is proposed, combined with flux tracing method, to compute 3D total electric field on buildings of arbitrary shape near HVDC transmission lines. Line and area elements are used to discretize bundled line conductors and buildings, respectively. Its correctness is validated by the experimental data reported in the literature, with a maximum relative error of about 10 % on the top of residences. Its applicability is demonstrated by several case studies encountered in practical UHVDC transmission projects. The results also show that parapet walls can weaken the electric field on platforms of residences. In the case presented in this paper, the TEF is reduced by about 58 %. This work can provide theoretical and technical support for the design and environmental impact assessments of HVDC transmission lines.

Anonymization technique has been extensively studied and widely applied for privacy-preserving data publishing. In most previous approaches, a microdata table consists of three categories of attributes, namely explicit-identifier, quasi-identifier (QI), and sensitive attribute. In general, individuals may have different views on the sensitivity of different attributes. Therefore, there is another type of attribute that contains both QI values and sensitive values, termed semi-sensitive attribute. In this paper, we propose a new anonymization technique, called Local Generalization and Bucketization, to prevent identity disclosure and protect the sensitive values on each semi-sensitive attribute and sensitive attribute. The rationale is to use local generalization and local bucketization to divide the tuples into local equivalence groups and partition the sensitive values into local buckets, respectively. The protections of local generalization and local bucketization are independent, so that they can be implemented by appropriate algorithms without weakening other protection. Besides, the protection of local bucketization for each semi-sensitive attribute and sensitive attribute is also independent. Consequently, local bucketization can comply with various principles in different attributes according to the actual requirements of anonymization. We conducted extensive experiments to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

AIM: To investigate the clinical effect and stability of biological amnion membrane coverage combined with corneal bandage lens for patients with chemical burns of ocular surface.METHODS: Retrospective study. The clinical data of 49 cases(49 eyes)of patients with chemical burns of ocular surface treated in our hospital between December 2018 and August 2021 were collected. They were divided into the biological amnion membrane coverage group and the biological amnion membrane coverage combined with corneal bandage lens group according to the surgical method. The loss time of biological amniotic membrane, postoperative pain score, repair rate and time of ocular surface, visual acuity and complications were compared between the two groups.RESULTS: The ocular pain scores of the two groups were 2.208±0.758(the biological amnion membrane coverage group)and 2.063±0.800(the biological amnion membrane coverage combined with corneal bandage lens group)at 1d after surgery, respectively(P>0.05). But at the 3d and 7d after surgery, pain scores were 1.844±0.762 and 1.150±0.582, 1.684±0.820 and 0.750±0.514, respectively(all P0.05). Additionally, there was no differences in the complications of both groups(P>0.05).CONCLUSION:Biological amnion membrane coverage has effective treatment effects on patients with chemical burns of ocular surface, and it can delay the loss time of biological amniotic membrane, increase repair rate of ocular surface and alleviate postoperative discomfort if combined with corneal bandage lens.

Some studies have shown that sorafenib could significantly prolong the overall survival of patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma treated with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). However, other studies revealed that patients had no access to sorafenib-related survival benefits after TACE. To identify the predictive biomarkers of therapeutic efficacy of sorafenib, we explored the potential predictive value of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and other clinical variables for survival benefits from sorafenib in patients treated with TACE previously. The results demonstrated that patients with tumor size > 7 cm or total bilirubin ≤ 17.3 μmol/L showed significant survival benefits from sorafenib after TACE treatment compared with those with tumor size ≤ 7 cm or total bilirubin > 17.3 μmol/L. Meanwhile, patients with VEGF > 131.09 pg/mL may obtain sorafenib-associated survival benefits after TACE when compared to those with VEGF ≤ 131.09 pg/mL, which needs further confirmation. The abovementioned results are helpful to confirm the specific population who are sensitive to targeted therapy. (1) Background: VEGF plays a crucial role in modulating proliferation and metastasis in HCC. We aimed to explore the relationship between VEGF and the prognosis, as well as the mortality risk of HCC patients who received TACE, and whether it and other variables could be considered as potential biomarkers for predicting the benefits from sorafenib. (2) Method: A total of 230 consecutive newly diagnosed patients with unresectable HCC treated with either TACE or TACE–sorafenib were collected retrospectively. Cox regression analyses were performed to evaluate the prognostic value of VEGF. Furthermore, restricted cubic splines were fitted to assess the nonlinear associations between VEGF and OS, and the threshold effect analysis was subsequently performed. Lastly, the potential factors for predicting the survival benefits from sorafenib after the TACE procedure were identified using the Cox proportional hazard model with an interaction term. (3) Results: VEGF was recognized as an independent prognostic factor for OS in the TACE alone cohort (HR = 3.237, p = 0.013). A nonlinear relationship was observed between VEGF and OS in HCC patients with TACE administration after adjustment for confounders (p for nonlinearity = 0.030); the mortality risk increased with increasing the baseline VEGF before the inflection point, and the HR for death was 1.008. There was no significant interaction between the VEGF levels and treatment modality (p for interaction = 0.233), and further studies are needed to identify its predictive value on the efficacy of sorafenib. Patients with tumor size > 7 cm or total bilirubin ≤ 17.3 μmol/L derived significant sorafenib-related benefits in OS when compared to those with tumor size ≤ 7 cm or total bilirubin > 17.3 μmol/L (p for interaction = 0.004 and 0.031, respectively). (4) Conclusions: Within a certain concentration range, elevated baseline VEGF meant an increased risk of death in HCC patients treated with TACE. Significant improvements in OS associated with sorafenib were observed in patients with higher tumor size and lower total bilirubin after TACE treatment.

Abstract Electroluminescent composites have considerable potential for applications in photoelectric display, electric field measurement and other fields due to their advantages of simple preparation and uniform luminescence. However, high voltage required by the operation of electroluminescent composites hinders their applications in the electric domain, and research on the relationship between electroluminescence principle of composites and filler intrinsic attributes is insufficient. In this paper, the effects of electric field strength, filler mass fraction and voltage frequency on the electroluminescence intensity of ZnS:Cu/epoxy composites are studied, which are majorly used as the luminescent layer of electroluminescent devices. To enhance the electroluminescence intensity of composites, high‐temperature sintered BaTiO3 and zinc oxide whiskers (ZnOw) particles are introduced in the base matrix. The finite element method is applied to verify that the matrix of high dielectric constant is in favour of improving the electroluminescence intensity of composites. The band structure of the ZnS:Cu particle is calculated based on the density functional theory + U method to analyse the intrinsic relationship between electroluminescence and particle electronic structure. This paper provides a basis for the research of high electroluminescence intensity devices and will be conducive to better understanding on the relationship between electroluminescence principle and filler intrinsic attributes.

Bile acid diarrhea (BAD) is a multifaceted intestinal disorder involving intricate molecular mechanisms, including farnesoid X receptor (FXR), fibroblast growth factor receptor 4 (FGFR4), and Takeda G protein–coupled receptor 5 (TGR5). Current diagnostic methods encompass bile acid sequestrants (BAS), 48-h fecal bile acid tests, serum 7α-hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one (C4), fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19) testing, and 75Selenium HomotauroCholic acid test (75SeHCAT). Treatment primarily involves BAS and FXR agonists. However, due to the limited sensitivity and specificity of current diagnostic methods, as well as suboptimal treatment efficacy and the presence of side effects, there is an urgent need to establish new diagnostic and treatment methods. While prior literature has summarized various diagnostic and treatment methods and the pathogenesis of BAD, no previous work has linked the two. This review offers a molecular perspective on the clinical diagnosis and treatment of BAD, with a focus on FXR, FGFR4, and TGR5, emphasizing the potential for identifying additional molecular mechanisms as treatment targets and bridging the gap between diagnostic and treatment methods and molecular mechanisms for a novel approach to the clinical management of BAD.

Introduction and Objectives: We initiated this multicenter study to integrate important risk factors to create a nomogram for hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) for clinician decision-making. Patients and Methods: Between April 2011 and March 2022, 2281 HCC patients with an HBV-related diagnosis were included. All patients were randomly divided into two groups in a ratio of 7:3 (training cohort, n = 1597; validation cohort, n = 684). The nomogram was built in the training cohort via Cox regression model and validated in the validation cohort. Results: Multivariate Cox analyses revealed that the portal vein tumor thrombus, Child–Pugh class, tumor diameter, alanine aminotransferase level, tumor number, extrahepatic metastases, and therapy were independent predictive variables impacting overall survival. We constructed a new nomogram to predict 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rates based on these factors. The nomogram-related receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves indicated that the area under the curve (AUC) values were 0.809, 0.806, and 0.764 in predicting 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rates, respectively. Furthermore, the calibration curves revealed good agreement between real measurements and nomogram predictions. The decision curve analyses (DCA) curves demonstrated excellent therapeutic application potential. In addition, stratified by risk scores, low-risk groups had longer median OS than medium–high-risk groups (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The nomogram we constructed showed good performance in predicting the 1-year survival rate for HBV- related HCC.
