The measurement of a superconducting qubit is implemented by coupling it to a resonator. The common choice is transverse coupling, which, in the dispersive approximation, introduces an interaction term which enables the measurement. This cross-Kerr term provides a qubit-state dependent dispersive shift in the resonator frequency with the device parameters chosen carefully to get sufficient signal while minimizing Purcell decay of the qubit. We introduce a two-mode circuit, nicknamed quantromon, with two orthogonal modes implementing a qubit and a resonator. Unlike before, where the coupling term emerges as a perturbative expansion, the quantromon has intrinsic cross-Kerr coupling by design. Our experiments implemented in a hybrid 2D-3D cQED architecture demonstrate some unique features of the quantromon like weak dependence of the dispersive shift on the qubit-resonator detuning and intrinsic Purcell protection. In a tunable qubit-frequency device, we show that the dispersive shift ($2\chi/2\pi$) changes by only $0.8$ MHz while the qubit-resonator detuning ($\Delta/2\pi$) is varied between $0.398$ GHz - $3.288$ GHz. We also demonstrate Purcell protection in a second device where we tune the orthogonality between the two modes. Finally, we demonstrate a single-shot readout fidelity of $98.3\%$ without using a parametric amplifier which is comparable to the state-of-the-art and suggests a potential simplification of the measurement circuitry for scaling up quantum processors., Comment: Manuscript (6 pages, 4 figures), Supplement (4 pages, 2 figures)

Automating the detection of fruits and vegetables using computer vision is essential for modernizing agriculture, improving efficiency, ensuring food quality, and contributing to technologically advanced and sustainable farming practices. This paper presents an end-to-end pipeline for detecting and localizing fruits and vegetables in real-world scenarios. To achieve this, we have curated a dataset named FRUVEG67 that includes images of 67 classes of fruits and vegetables captured in unconstrained scenarios, with only a few manually annotated samples per class. We have developed a semi-supervised data annotation algorithm (SSDA) that generates bounding boxes for objects to label the remaining non-annotated images. For detection, we introduce the Fruit and Vegetable Detection Network (FVDNet), an ensemble version of YOLOv7 featuring three distinct grid configurations. We employ an averaging approach for bounding-box prediction and a voting mechanism for class prediction. We have integrated Jensen-Shannon divergence (JSD) in conjunction with focal loss to better detect smaller objects. Our experimental results highlight the superiority of FVDNet compared to previous versions of YOLO, showcasing remarkable improvements in detection and localization performance. We achieved an impressive mean average precision (mAP) score of 0.78 across all classes. The detection and analysis of the solar coronal holes (CHs) is an important field of study in the domain of solar physics. Mainly, it is required for the proper prediction of the geomagnetic storms which directly or indirectly affect various space and ground-based systems. For the detection of CHs till date, the solar scientist depends on manual hand-drawn approaches. However, with the advancement of image processing technologies, some automated image segmentation methods have been used for the detection of CHs. In-spite of this, fast and accurate detection of CHs are till a major issues. Here in this work, a novel quantum computing-based fast fuzzy c-mean technique has been developed for fast detection of the CHs region. The task has been carried out in two stages, in first stage the solar image has been segmented using a quantum computing based fast fuzzy c-mean (QCFFCM) and in the later stage the CHs has been extracted out from the segmented image based on image morphological operation. In the work, quantum computing has been used to optimize the cost function of the fast fuzzy c-mean (FFCM) algorithm, where quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) has been used to optimize the quadratic part of the cost function. The proposed method has been tested for 193 \AA{} SDO/AIA full-disk solar image datasets and has been compared with the existing techniques. We experimentally demonstrate the fast generation of thermal states of a transmon using a single-junction quantum-circuit refrigerator (QCR) as an in-situ-tunable environment. Through single-shot readout, we monitor the transmon up to its third-excited state, assessing population distributions controlled by QCR drive pulses. Whereas cooling can be achieved in the weak-drive regime, high-amplitude pulses can generate Boltzmann-distributed populations from a temperature of 110 mK up to 500 mK within 100 ns. As we propose in our work, this fast and efficient temperature control provides an appealing opportunity to demonstrate a quantum heat engine. Our results also pave the way for efficient dissipative state preparation and for reducing the circuit depth in thermally assisted quantum algorithms and quantum annealing.

Achieving fast gates and long coherence times for superconducting qubits presents challenges, typically requiring either a stronger coupling of the drive line or an excessively strong microwave signal to the qubit. To address this, we introduce on-chip filters of the qubit drive exhibiting a stopband at the qubit frequency, thus enabling long coherence times and strong coupling at the subharmonic frequency, facilitating fast single-qubit gates, and reduced thermal load. The filters exhibit an extrinsic relaxation time of a few seconds while enabling sub-10-ns gates with subharmonic control. Here we show up to 200-fold improvement in the measured relaxation time at the stopband. Furthermore, we implement subharmonic driving of Rabi oscillations with a $\pi$ pulse duration of 12 ns. The challenges of graph stream algorithms are twofold. First, each edge needs to be processed only once, and second, it needs to work on highly constrained memory. Diffusion degree is a measure of node centrality that can be calculated (for all nodes) trivially for static graphs using a single Breadth-First Search (BFS). However, keeping track of the Diffusion Degree in a graph stream is nontrivial. The memory requirement for exact calculation is equivalent to keeping the whole graph in memory. The present paper proposes an estimator (or sketch) of diffusion degree for graph streams. We prove the correctness of the proposed sketch and the upper bound of the estimated error. Given $\epsilon, \delta \in (0,1)$, we achieve error below $\epsilon(b_u-a_u)d_u\lambda$ in node $u$ with probability $1-\delta$ by utilizing $O(n\frac1{\epsilon^2}\log{\frac1{\delta}})$ space, where $b_u$ and $a_u$ are the maximum and minimum degrees of neighbors of $u$, $\lambda$ is diffusion probability, and $d_u$ is the degree of node $u$. With the help of this sketch, we propose an algorithm to extract the top-$k$ influencing nodes in the graph stream. Comparative experiments show that the spread of top-$k$ nodes by the proposed graph stream algorithm is equivalent to or better than the spread of top-$k$ nodes extracted by the exact algorithm.

GNNs are widely used to solve various tasks including node classification and link prediction. Most of the GNN architectures assume the initial embedding to be random or generated from popular distributions. These initial embeddings require multiple layers of transformation to converge into a meaningful latent representation. While number of layers allow accumulation of larger neighbourhood of a node it also introduce the problem of over-smoothing. In addition, GNNs are inept at representing structural information. For example, the output embedding of a node does not capture its triangles participation. In this paper, we presented a novel feature extraction methodology GraphViz2Vec that can capture the structural information of a node's local neighbourhood to create meaningful initial embeddings for a GNN model. These initial embeddings helps existing models achieve state-of-the-art results in various classification tasks. Further, these initial embeddings help the model to produce desired results with only two layers which in turn reduce the problem of over-smoothing. The initial encoding of a node is obtained from an image classification model trained on multiple energy diagrams of its local neighbourhood. These energy diagrams are generated with the induced sub-graph of the nodes traversed by multiple random walks. The generated encodings increase the performance of existing models on classification tasks (with a mean increase of $4.65\%$ and $2.58\%$ for the node and link classification tasks, respectively), with some models achieving state-of-the-art results.

Achieving fast and precise initialization of qubits is a critical requirement for the successful operation of quantum computers. The combination of engineered environments with all-microwave techniques has recently emerged as a promising approach for the reset of superconducting quantum devices. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate the utilization of a single-junction quantum-circuit refrigerator (QCR) for an expeditious removal of several excitations from a transmon qubit. The QCR is indirectly coupled to the transmon through a resonator in the dispersive regime, constituting a carefully engineered environmental spectrum for the transmon. Using single-shot readout, we observe excitation stabilization times down to roughly $500$ ns, a $20$-fold speedup with QCR and a simultaneous two-tone drive addressing the $e$-$f$ and $f0$-$g1$ transitions of the system. Our results are obtained at a $48$-mK fridge temperature and without postselection, fully capturing the advantage of the protocol for the short-time dynamics and the drive-induced detrimental asymptotic behavior in the presence of relatively hot other baths of the transmon. We validate our results with a detailed Liouvillian model truncated up to the three-excitation subspace, from which we estimate the performance of the protocol in optimized scenarios, such as cold transmon baths and fine-tuned driving frequencies. Pervasive use of social media has become the emerging source for real-time information (like images, text, or both) to identify various events. Despite the rapid growth of image and text-based event classification, the state-of-the-art (SOTA) models find it challenging to bridge the semantic gap between features of image and text modalities due to inconsistent encoding. Also, the black-box nature of models fails to explain the model's outcomes for building trust in high-stakes situations such as disasters, pandemic. Additionally, the word limit imposed on social media posts can potentially introduce bias towards specific events. To address these issues, we proposed CrisisKAN, a novel Knowledge-infused and Explainable Multimodal Attention Network that entails images and texts in conjunction with external knowledge from Wikipedia to classify crisis events. To enrich the context-specific understanding of textual information, we integrated Wikipedia knowledge using proposed wiki extraction algorithm. Along with this, a guided cross-attention module is implemented to fill the semantic gap in integrating visual and textual data. In order to ensure reliability, we employ a model-specific approach called Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) that provides a robust explanation of the predictions of the proposed model. The comprehensive experiments conducted on the CrisisMMD dataset yield in-depth analysis across various crisis-specific tasks and settings. As a result, CrisisKAN outperforms existing SOTA methodologies and provides a novel view in the domain of explainable multimodal event classification.

Two dimensional gauge theories with charged matter fields are useful toy models for studying gauge theory dynamics, and in particular for studying the duality of large $N$ gauge theories to perturbative string theories. A useful starting point for such studies is the pure Yang-Mills theory, which is exactly solvable. Its $1/N$ expansion was interpreted as a string theory by Gross and Taylor 30 years ago, but they did not provide a worldsheet action for this string theory, and such an action is useful for coupling it to matter fields. The chiral sector of the Yang-Mills theory can be written as a sum over holomorphic maps and has useful worldsheet descriptions, but the full theory includes more general extremal-area maps; a formal worldsheet action including all these maps in a "topological rigid string theory" was written by Ho\v{r}ava many years ago, but various subtleties arise when trying to use it for computations. In this paper we suggest a Polyakov-like generalization of Ho\v{r}ava's worldsheet action which is well-defined, and we show how it reproduces the free limit of the Yang-Mills theory, both by formal arguments and by explicitly computing its partition function in several cases. In this work, we classify all the possible local four-point couplings relevant for tree-level flat space $2 \rightarrow 2$ scattering of external massive particles of spin one and spin two which do not grow faster than $s^2$ at large $s$ and fixed t. This kinematic constraint on local growth of tree-level S-matrices is known as Classical Regge Growth criteria or CRG. We first construct the spin one and spin two tree-level contact S-matrices as modules of polarisation tensors and momenta over the ring of polynomials generated by Mandelstam invariants. We then consider a general scattering process where the external scattering particles are of different masses but of same spin and constrain this space to obtain a finite number of CRG allowed local Lagrangians. Our concrete results are primarily for $D\geq 8$ but the process outlined is easily generalised to lower dimensions to include low dimensional parity violating structures. The space of CRG allowed structures reduces when we specialise to identical scattering and restrict to parity even couplings in $D=4$. We show that tree-level scattering amplitudes involving exchange diagrams and contact terms in de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley massive gravity (dRGT) violate CRG unless the parameters of the theory take special values. The CRG allowed S-matrices, in the context of large $N$ conformal field theories (CFTs), can also be interpreted as bulk $AdS$ counterterms consistent with Chaos bound. The rise of social media platforms has led to an increase in cyber-aggressive behavior, encompassing a broad spectrum of hostile behavior, including cyberbullying, online harassment, and the dissemination of offensive and hate speech. These behaviors have been associated with significant societal consequences, ranging from online anonymity to real-world outcomes such as depression, suicidal tendencies, and, in some instances, offline violence. Recognizing the societal risks associated with unchecked aggressive content, this paper delves into the field of Aggression Content Detection and Behavioral Analysis of Aggressive Users, aiming to bridge the gap between disparate studies. In this paper, we analyzed the diversity of definitions and proposed a unified cyber-aggression definition. We examine the comprehensive process of Aggression Content Detection, spanning from dataset creation, feature selection and extraction, and detection algorithm development. Further, we review studies on Behavioral Analysis of Aggression that explore the influencing factors, consequences, and patterns associated with cyber-aggressive behavior. This systematic literature review is a cross-examination of content detection and behavioral analysis in the realm of cyber-aggression. The integrated investigation reveals the effectiveness of incorporating sociological insights into computational techniques for preventing cyber-aggressive behavior. We consider the path integral of a quantum field theory in Minkowski spacetime with fixed boundary values (for the elementary fields) on asymptotic boundaries. We define and study the corresponding boundary correlation functions obtained by taking derivatives of this path integral with respect to the boundary values. The S-matrix of the QFT can be extracted directly from these boundary correlation functions after smearing. We interpret this relation in terms of coherent state quantization and derive the constraints on the path-integral as a function of boundary values that follow from the unitarity of the S-matrix. We then study the locality structure of boundary correlation functions. In the massive case, we find that the boundary correlation functions for generic locations of boundary points are dominated by a saddle point which has the interpretation of particles scattering in a small elevator in the bulk, where the location of the elevator is determined dynamically, and the S-matrix can be recovered after stripping off some dynamically determined but non-local ``renormalization'' factors. In the massless case, we find that while the boundary correlation functions are generically analytic as a function on the whole manifold of locations of boundary points, they have special singularities on a sub-manifold, points on which correspond to light-like scattering in the bulk. We completely characterize this singular scattering sub-manifold, and find that the corresponding residues of the boundary correlations at these singularities are precisely given by S-matrices. This analysis parallels the analysis of bulk-point singularities in AdS/CFT and generalizes it to the case of multi-bulk point singularities.

We consider an effective theory with a single massive spin-2 particle and a gap to the cutoff. We couple the spin-2 particle to gravity, and to other lower-spin fields, and study the growth of scattering amplitudes of the particle in the Regge regime: where $s$ is much larger than $t$ and also any mass scales in the effective theory, but still much lower than the cutoff scale of the theory and therefore any further massive spin-2 particles. We include in the effective theory all possible operators, with an arbitrary, but finite, number of derivatives. We prove that the scattering amplitude grows strictly faster than $s^2$ in any such theory. Such fast growth goes against expected bounds on Regge growth. We therefore find further evidence for the Swampland spin-2 conjecture: that a theory with an isolated massive spin-2 particle, coupled to gravity, is in the Swampland., Comment: 22 pages + appendices, 5 figures

A network may have different types of entities and their relations. Further, there could be additional layers of ties. The former is referred to as Heterogeneous networks, while the latter is known as Multi-layer networks. The present paper provides a generalized network model, namely, a Heterogeneous Multi-layered Network (HMN), which can simultaneously be multi-layered and heterogeneous. The model can represent homogeneous networks as well. We define different structural measures in an HMN. We proved that the sets of all homogeneous, heterogeneous and multi-layered networks are subsets of the set of all HMNs. Accordingly, we established the equivalency of the proposed structural measures of HMNs with that of homogeneous, heterogeneous, and multi-layered networks. Following that, we show how our proposed HMN is more efficient in tasks such as link prediction. In addition, we present a novel parameterized algorithm (with complexity analysis) for generating synthetic HMNs. The networks generated from our proposed algorithm are more consistent in modelling the layer-wise degree distribution of a real-world Twitter network (represented as HMN) than those generated by existing models. Moreover, we also show that our algorithm is more effective in modelling an air-transportation multiplex network when compared to an algorithm designed specifically for the task.

Exploring and comprehending the culinary heritage of a nation holds a captivating allure. It offers insights into the structure and qualities of its cuisine. The endeavor becomes more accessible with the availability of a well-organized dataset. In this paper, we present the introduction of INDoRI (Indian Dataset of Recipes and Ingredients), a compilation drawn from seven distinct online platforms, representing 18 regions within the Indian subcontinent. This comprehensive geographical span ensures a portrayal of the rich variety within culinary practices. Furthermore, we introduce a unique collection of stop words, referred to as ISW (Ingredient Stop Words), manually tuned for the culinary domain. We assess the validity of ISW in the context of global cuisines beyond Indian culinary tradition. Subsequently, an ingredient network (InN) is constructed, highlighting interconnections among ingredients sourced from different recipes. We delve into both the defining attributes of INDoRI and the communal dimensions of InN. Additionally, we outline the potential applications that can be developed leveraging this dataset. Addressing one of the applications, we demonstrated a research problem on InN with a simple weighted community detection algorithm. Kerr-AdS$_{d+1}$ black holes for $d\geq 3$ suffer from classical superradiant instabilities over a range of masses above extremality. We conjecture that these instabilities settle down into Grey Galaxies (GGs) - a new class of coarse-grained solutions to Einstein's equations which we construct in $d=3$. Grey Galaxies are made up of a black hole with critical angular velocity $\omega=1$ in the `centre' of $AdS$, surrounded by a large flat disk of thermal bulk gas that revolves around the centre of $AdS$ at the speed of light. The gas carries a finite fraction of the total energy, as its parametrically low energy density and large radius are inversely related. GGs exist at masses that extend all the way down to the unitarity bound. Their thermodynamics is that of a weakly interacting mix of Kerr-AdS black holes and the bulk gas. Their boundary stress tensor is the sum of a smooth `black hole' contribution and a peaked gas contribution that is delta function localized around the equator of the boundary sphere in the large $N$ limit. We also construct another class of solutions with the same charges; `Revolving Black Holes (RBHs)'. RBHs are macroscopically charged $SO(d,2)$ descendants of AdS-Kerr solutions, and consist of $\omega=1$ black holes revolving around the centre of $AdS$ at a fixed radial location but in a quantum wave function in the angular directions. RBH solutions are marginally entropically subdominant to GG solutions and do not constitute the endpoint of the superradiant instability. Core-collapse supernovae are among the astrophysical sources of gravitational waves that could be detected by third-generation gravitational-wave detectors. Here, we analyze the gravitational-wave strain signals from two- and three-dimensional simulations of core-collapse supernovae generated using the code F{\sc{ornax}}. A subset of the two-dimensional simulations has non-zero core rotation at the core bounce. A dominant source of time changing quadrupole moment is the $l=2$ fundamental mode ($f-$ mode) oscillation of the proto-neutron star. From the time-frequency spectrogram of the gravitational-wave strain we see that, starting $\sim 400$ ms after the core bounce, most of the power lies within a narrow track that represents the frequency evolution of the $f-$mode oscillations. The $f-$mode frequencies obtained from linear perturbation analysis of the angle-averaged profile of the protoneutron star corroborate what we observe in the spectrograms of the gravitational-wave signal. We explore the measurability of the $f-$mode frequency evolution of protoneutron star for a supernova signal observed in the third-generation gravitational-wave detectors. Measurement of the frequency evolution can reveal information about the masses, radii, and densities of the proto-neutron stars. We find that if the third generation detectors observe a supernova within 10 kpc, we can measure these frequencies to within $\sim$90\% accuracy. We can also measure the energy emitted in the fundamental $f-$mode using the spectrogram data of the strain signal. We find that the energy in the $f-$mode can be measured to within 20\% error for signals observed by Cosmic Explorer using simulations with successful explosion, assuming source distances within 10 kpc., Comment: 17 pages, 11 figures, 2 tables

Measuring the state of qubits is one of the fundamental operations of a quantum computer. Currently, state-of-the-art high-fidelity single-shot readout of superconducting qubits relies on parametric amplifiers at the millikelvin stage. However, parametric amplifiers are challenging to scale beyond hundreds of qubits owing to practical size and power limitations. Nanobolometers have a multitude of properties that are advantageous for scalability and have recently shown sensitivity and speed promising for qubit readout, but such thermal detectors have not been demonstrated for this purpose. In this work, we utilize an ultrasensitive bolometer in place of a parametric amplifier to experimentally demonstrate single-shot qubit readout. With a readout duration of $13.9~\mu\mathrm{s}$, we achieve a single-shot fidelity of 0.618 which is mainly limited by the energy relaxation time of the qubit, $T_1 = 28~\mu\mathrm{s}$. Without the $T_1$ errors, we find the fidelity to be 0.927. In the future, high-fidelity single-shot readout may be achieved by straightforward improvements to the chip design and experimental setup, and perhaps most interestingly by the change of the bolometer absorber material to reduce the readout time to the hundred-nanosecond level and beyond., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures

The interplay between coherent and dissipative dynamics required in various control protocols of quantum technology has motivated studies of open-system degeneracies, referred to as exceptional points (EPs). Here, we introduce a scheme for fast quantum-state synthesis using exceptional-point engineering in a lossy chain of three superconducting resonators. We theoretically find that the rich physics of EPs can be used to identify regions in the parameter space that favor a fast and quasi-stable transfer of squeezing and entanglement, or a fast reset of the system. For weakly interacting resonators with the coupling strength $g$, the obtained quasi-stabilization time scales are identified as $1/(2\sqrt{2}g)$, and reset infidelities below $10^{-5}$ are obtained with a waiting time of roughly $6/g$ in the case of weakly squeezed resonators. Our results shed light on the role of EPs in multimode Gaussian systems and pave the way for optimized distribution of squeezing and entanglement between different nodes of a photonic network using dissipation as a resource., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures

A tidal disruption event (TDE) occurs when the gravitational field of a supermassive black hole (SMBH) destroys a star. For TDEs in which the star enters deep within the tidal radius, such that the ratio of the tidal radius to the pericenter distance $\beta$ satisfies $\beta \gg 1$, the star is tidally compressed and heated. It was predicted that the maximum density and temperature attained during deep TDEs scale as $\propto \beta^3$ and $\propto \beta^2$, respectively, and nuclear detonation triggered by $\beta \gtrsim 5$, but these predictions have been debated over the last four decades. We perform Newtonian smoothed-particle hydrodynamics (SPH) simulations of deep TDEs between a Sun-like star and a $10^6 M_\odot$ SMBH for $2 \le \beta \le 10$. We find that neither the maximum density nor temperature follow the $\propto \beta^3$ and $\propto \beta^2$ scalings or, for that matter, any power-law dependence, and that the maximum-achieved density and temperature are reduced by $\sim$ an order of magnitude compared to past predictions. We also perform simulations in the Schwarzschild metric, and find that relativistic effects modestly increase the maximum density (by a factor of $\lesssim 1.5$) and induce a time lag relative to the Newtonian simulations, which is induced by time dilation. We also confirm that the time the star spends at high density and temperature is a very small fraction of its dynamical time. A core-collapse supernova is generated by the passage of a shockwave through the envelope of a massive star, where the shock wave is initially launched from the ``bounce'' of the neutron star formed during the collapse of the stellar core. Instead of successfully exploding the star, however, numerical investigations of core-collapse supernovae find that this shock tends to ``stall'' at small radii ($\lesssim$ 10 neutron star radii), with stellar material accreting onto the central object through the standing shock. Here, we present time-steady, adiabatic solutions for the density, pressure, and velocity of the shocked fluid that accretes onto the compact object through the stalled shock, and we include the effects of general relativity in the Schwarzschild metric. Similar to previous works that were carried out in the Newtonian limit, we find that the gas ``settles'' interior to the stalled shock; in the relativistic regime analyzed here, the velocity asymptotically approaches zero near the Schwarzschild radius. These solutions can represent accretion onto a material surface if the radius of the compact object is outside of its event horizon, such as a neutron star; we also discuss the possibility that these solutions can approximately represent the accretion of gas onto a newly formed black hole following a core-collapse event. The cosmological constant presents one of the most fascinating and confounding problems in physics. A straightforward, seemingly robust prediction of quantum mechanics and general relativity is that the vacuum energy gravitates. Therefore, the cosmological constant should be enormous. It is minuscule. Since there is no understanding of why the cosmological constant is so small, it is important to test this idea in many different situations. In particular, given the span of distances in astronomy and particle physics, it is vital to test the gravitation of vacuum energy on as many distance scales as we can. Rydberg atoms open up a new set of distances for exploration. It is satisfying to measure the cosmological constant with an atom, but its main significance is extending measurements to microscopic distances. Here, too, there is no evidence of the gravitation of the vacuum. de-Sitter(dS) space allows for a generalized class of vacua, known as $\alpha-$vacua, described by some parameters. The Bunch-Davies (BD) vacua is a point in this parameter space. The cosmological correlation function is mostly discussed in BD vacuum in four dimensions and can be interpreted as $CFT_3$ correlation function of certain operators. However, the correlation function in $\alpha-$vacua takes a much more complicated form. In this paper, we give a simple prescription to compute correlation function in $\alpha-$vacua in terms of correlation function of BD vacuum. We also show that the correlation function in the $\alpha-$vacua can be related to three-dimensional CFT correlation functions if we relax the requirement of consistency with OPE limit. Superconducting qubits are one of the most promising candidates to implement quantum computers. The superiority of superconducting quantum computers over any classical device in simulating random but well-determined quantum circuits has already been shown in two independent experiments and important steps have been taken in quantum error correction. However, the currently wide-spread qubit designs do not yet provide high enough performance to enable practical applications or efficient scaling of logical qubits owing to one or several following issues: sensitivity to charge or flux noise leading to decoherence, too weak non-linearity preventing fast operations, undesirably dense excitation spectrum, or complicated design vulnerable to parasitic capacitance. Here, we introduce and demonstrate a superconducting-qubit type, the unimon, which combines the desired properties of high non-linearity, full insensitivity to dc charge noise, insensitivity to flux noise, and a simple structure consisting only of a single Josephson junction in a resonator. We measure the qubit frequency, $\omega_{01}/(2\pi)$, and anharmonicity $\alpha$ over the full dc-flux range and observe, in agreement with our quantum models, that the qubit anharmonicity is greatly enhanced at the optimal operation point, yielding, for example, 99.9% and 99.8% fidelity for 13-ns single-qubit gates on two qubits with $(\omega_{01},\alpha)=(4.49~\mathrm{GHz}, 434~\mathrm{ MHz})\times 2\pi$ and $(3.55~\mathrm{GHz}, 744~\mathrm{ MHz})\times 2\pi$, respectively. The energy relaxation time $T_1\lesssim 10~\mu\mathrm{s}$ is stable for hours and seems to be limited by dielectric losses. The dissociation and ionization of hydrogen, during the formation of giant planets via core accretion, reduces the effective adiabatic index $\gamma$ of the gas and could trigger dynamical instability. We generalize the analysis of Chandrasekhar, who determined that the threshold for instability of a self-gravitating hydrostatic body lies at $\gamma=4/3$, to account for the presence of a planetary core, which we model as an incompressible fluid. We show that the dominant effect of the core is to stabilize the envelope to radial perturbations, in some cases completely (i.e. for all $\gamma > 1$). When instability is possible, unstable planetary configurations occupy a strip of $\gamma$ values whose upper boundary falls below $\gamma=4/3$. Fiducial evolutionary tracks of giant planets forming through core accretion appear unlikely to cross the dynamical instability strip that we define.

This paper studied the faint, diffuse extended X-ray emission associated with the radio lobes and the hot gas in the intracluster medium (ICM) environment for a sample of radio galaxies. We used shallow ($\sim 10$ ks) archival Chandra observations for 60 radio galaxies (7 FR I and 53 FR II) with $0.0222 \le z \le 1.785$ selected from the 298 extragalactic radio sources identified in the 3CR catalog. We used Bayesian statistics to look for any asymmetry in the extended X-ray emission between regions that contain the radio lobes and regions that contain the hot gas in the ICM. In the Chandra broadband ($0.5 - 7.0$ keV), which has the highest detected X-ray flux and the highest signal-to-noise ratio, we found that the non-thermal X-ray emission from the radio lobes dominates the thermal X-ray emission from the environment for $\sim 77\%$ of the sources in our sample. We also found that the relative amount of on-jet axis non-thermal emission from the radio lobes tends to increase with redshift compared to the off-jet axis thermal emission from the environment. This suggests that the dominant X-ray mechanism for the non-thermal X-ray emission in the radio lobes is due to the inverse Compton upscattering of cosmic microwave background (CMB) seed photons by relativistic electrons in the radio lobes, a process for which the observed flux is roughly redshift independent due to the increasing CMB energy density with increasing redshift., Comment: 19 pages, 18 figures

Processes that lead to the critical-current suppression and change of impedance of a superconductor under the application of an external voltage is an active area of research, especially due to various possible technological applications. In particular, field-effect transistors and radiation detectors have been developed in the recent years, showing the potential for precision and sensitivity exceeding their normal-metal counterparts. In order to describe the phenomenon that leads to the critical-current suppression in metallic superconducting structures, a field-effect hypothesis has been formulated, stating that an electric field can penetrate the metallic superconductor and affect its characteristics. The existence of such an effect would imply the incompleteness of the underlying theory, and hence indicate an important gap in the general comprehension of superconductors. In addition to its theoretical value, a complete understanding of the phenomenon underneath the electric-field response of the superconductor is important in the light of the related technological applications. In this paper, we study the change of the characteristics of a superconductor implementing a coplanar-waveguide resonator as a tank circuit, by relating our measurements to the reactance and resistance of the material. Namely, we track the state of the superconductor at different voltages and resulting leakage currents of a nearby gate electrode which is not galvanically connected to the resonator. We study four-point functions of scalars, conserved currents, and stress tensors in a conformal field theory, generated by a local contact term in the bulk dual description, in two different causal configurations. The first of these is the standard Regge configuration in which the chaos bound applies. The second is the `causally scattering configuration' in which the correlator develops a bulk point singularity. We find an expression for the coefficient of the bulk point singularity in terms of the bulk S matrix of the bulk dual metric, gauge fields and scalars, and use it to determine the Regge scaling of the correlator on the causally scattering sheet in terms of the Regge growth of this S matrix. We then demonstrate that the Regge scaling on this sheet is governed by the same power as in the standard Regge configuration, and so is constrained by the chaos bound, which turns out to be violated unless the bulk flat space S matrix grows no faster than $s^2$ in the Regge limit. It follows that in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence, the chaos bound applied to the boundary field theory implies that the S matrices of the dual bulk scalars, gauge fields, and gravitons obey the Classical Regge Growth (CRG) conjecture., Comment: Added a section, new references, and clarifications
