A superconducting multipole wiggler (SMPW) was fabricated at the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC) and was installed in the Synchrotron Light Research Institute (SLRI). A 3.5 T field strength could be generated by the NbTi coils and the magnetic arrays are immersed in a liquid helium (LHe) bath. A removable mapping chamber, made from thin stainless steel sheets, was developed to allow field mapping in the narrow aperture of the SMPW. The mapping chamber provides a room temperature environment for the magnetic field mapping and enables an easier field scan in the cryostat. The design for the mapping chamber includes a blockage of heat transfer from room temperature to the LHe bath and is strong enough to resist deformations during evacuation. The mechanical design, strain simulation, thermal simulation, dummy test and measurement results with the mapping chamber will be discussed in this paper., Proceedings of the 10th Int. Taiwan Photon Source (TPS) is a synchrotron radia-tion facility with electron energy 3 GeV that was commissioned in 2015. Taiwan Light Source (TLS) with electron energy 1.5 GeV concurrently provides user time. Three beam lines of TLS supply photons of energy 6-18 keV for user experiments; these beam lines are served with an in-achromatic superconduct-ing wiggler (IASW, 3.1 T). This superconducting inser-tion device has the disadvantages of complicated maintenance and operation. A traditional multipole wiggler (MPW) magnet of hybrid type is hence planned to be installed in TPS to cover the range of photon energy of IASW for user experiments. For the design of the magnetic circuit, the side block and the extreme block are arranged surrounding a Permendur Vanadium cobalt steel pole that enhances the field strength and good field region of a MPW magnet. The dynamic integral field and the demagnetizing field of MPW magnet were estimated. High-quality and very demanding magnets were designed, fabricated, field quality controlled and installed in the Taiwan Photon Source (TPS). The Storage Ring (SR) lattice is based on double-bend achromat structure with 1.6 nm-rad emittance and slight dispersion in straight sections. The fabrication and field measurement of these magnets were completed in Oct. 2013. The first synchrotron light from TPS storage ring, without applying any corrector at 3 GeV, was observed on Dec. 31, 2014. It indicates that the profile precision and field quality of magnets, and girders alignment reach world class standard. The integral multipoles components of the 240 SR quadrupole and 168 SR sextupole magnets conform to strict specifications. The maximum offset of measured mechanical center in magnets is better than 0.01 mm after feet shimming. The magnetic center offset of the magnets is within 0.02 mm inspected by rotating-coil method. The magnets’ field quality of booster’s pure quadrupole and combined-function quadrupole were accepted according to the errors specifications from beam dynamics and also in the beam commissioning. A permeability study of vacuum chamber was implemented during the booster ring hardware testing. The magnetic field of magnets is distorted by the permeability of vacuum chamber. Analytic methods of four kinds served for analysis of the magnetic field of TPS magnets that were simulated with OPERA 2D and 3D software. These analytic methods include fast Fourier transform, one-dimensional fitting, two-dimensional circular or elliptic fitting and a differential field. A modern 3-GeV synchrotron radiation light source is under construction in NSRRC, named Taiwan Photon Source (TPS). Great quality of magnets is required to control the electron-beam in the required orbit in the storage ring (SR) and the booster ring (BR) of TPS. The mechanical and magnet field performance of these magnets were fully inspected in NSRRC. The standard deviation of the integral field strength of 48 SR-dipole magnets is better than 0.1%. The integral multipoles and offsets of the magnetic center of the 240 SR quadrupole and 168 SR sextupole magnets conform to strict specifications. The field characteristics of the BR combined-function dipole magnet were analyzed with an average of processing raw data. The standard deviation of the field strength of 54 BR dipole-magnets is better than 0.2%. The field quality of 36 BR pure quadrupole and 48 BR combined-function quadrupole magnets are accepted to meet the requirement of the booster ring. The field strength and multipole errors of 24 BR sextupole magnets were also examined. Pulsed magnet system of Taiwan Photon source(TPS) requires a very low stray field to avoid parasitic magnetic field into the stored beam. The stray field from storage ring(SR) injection septum is required to be less than 0.2 Gauss. The most common method to protect parasitic magnetic field is to use high permeability and conductivity material, such as a Mu-metal. A 1.2 ms half-sine wave pulse of up to 8280A current peak are supply to a septum and would result in eddy current loss in magnet and conductor current diffusion during the rapid charging on magnet. Moreover, competition between eddy current loss and magnetic permeability would lead to a complex phenomena inside the mumetal shielding cabinet and shielding performance. In this study, the magnetic shielding performance of a shielding cabinet was examined in different shielding cabinet geometry and thickness. Taiwan Photon Source (TPS) is a new third generation synchrotron storage ring with energy 3 GeV, which consists of 24 double-bend cells and its circumference is 518.4 m. Various accelerator lattice magnets which consist of 48 bending magnets, 240 quadrupoles and 168 multifunction sextupole magnets. All magnets pole profiles, edge shim and magnet end chamfer were designed in TOSCA and RADIA magnetic computation code. In order to verify the magnetic field quality of computation code, prototype magnets have been manufactured in this year. Two measurement systems, hall probe and rotating coils, were used for magnetic field mapping. The free space between magnets of TPS storage ring is very tight, especially the space between quadrupole and sextupole magnets. The minimum space between the yoke of quadrupole and sextupole is about 150mm, and the space between coils is only 10mm. In this case, the significant magnetic field distortions could have an impact on the performance of machine. Two magnets simulation compare to the individual magnet were performed in TOSCA 3D model. The crosstalk effect shows that the sextupole component increases from 0.0004% to 0.04% in the quadrupole magnet and the quadrupole component increases from 0.0008% to 0.06% in the sextupole magnet. A novel gradient damping wiggler (GDW) was developed for the ALPHA storage ring in Indiana University. The GDW will be used to change the momentum compaction factor and the damping partition at ALPHA storage effectively. There is one middle pole and two outer poles that they have gradient field were assembled together on the same girder to be a full set of GDW magnet system. The dipole and gradient field strength of the middle (outer) pole is 0.67 T (-0.67) and 1.273 T/m (1.273 T/m), respectively. The magnet gap of the middle and outer pole is 40 mm and 35.87 mm, respectively, that the three combined function of dipole magnet can be charged by the same power supply. There is a trim coil on the three magnets to adjust the first and second integral field to zero. The good field region of middle pole and outer pole in transverse x-axis (deltaB/B=0.1%) are ±50mm and ±40mm separately. A prototype GDW magnet was fabricated and a Hall probe measurement system was set up to measure the magnet field to verify the magnet design and the magnet construction performance.
