Background: Green gram (Vigna radiata) also known as moong bean is an annually cultivated in East Asia, Southeast Asia and Indian subcontinent. V. radiata is very important source for the protein as in our regular diet and it proved essential amino acid such as phenylalanine, leucine, isoleucine, valine, lysine, arginine, methionine, threonine and tryptophan. Methods: Here, we studied the influence of seed endophytes on germination and development under salinity stress condition. Seeds were treated with sodium hypochlorite for 30 min under shaking condition at 100 rpm for surface sterilization and treated with 70% ethanol for 2 min and followed five times rinse with autoclaved water. Surface sterilised seeds were homogenised in autoclaved water with the help of mortal-pestle. Homogenised seed solution made serial dilution and spreaded over nutrient agar for endophytic bacterial growth. Seeds were treated with bacteriocide and fungicide to make endophytes free, followed by sown for germination at 0 mM, 50 mM, 100 mM and 150 mM NaCl concentration. Result: Endophyte free seedlings were more susceptible against salt stress over normal seedlings. Therefore endophyte free seedling shoot and root biomass was 23.5% and 65.7% lower than control seedling biomass at 0mM salt respectively, while root length was 70% lower than control seedling root at 0mM salt concentration. Proline content in shoot and root observed an increase with increase of salt concentration. At 0 mM salt, proline content was 0.00782±0.00043 and 0.00648±0.00017 (µmol/mg) in root of normal and endophyte free seedling respectively, while in shoot, it was non-significant difference. Glycine betaine content found to be increasing upto 100 mM, followed by decreasing at 150 mM in both root and shoot tissue. Glycine betaine content in endophyte free and control seedling shoot was 74.2±2.5 and 96.0±2.73 (µg/200 mg) respectively at 100 mM salt concentration. This result suggests, not only heritable genomic DNA but also endophytes associated with seed are very much important for the seedling growth and development which is also finally helps to combat abiotic stress situation. This article discusses a rare finding in a 14-year-old male patient with atopic dermatitis. The patient presented with itching over flexures and bilateral soles, along with dry and scaly skin. During the examination, a midline longitudinal furrow with transverse ridges was observed on the left great toenail. The condition was diagnosed as unilateral median canaliform dystrophy of Heller. Introduction: The skin acts as the first line of defense for the body against external injuries. With aging, the architecture of the skin undergoes intrinsic changes that impair its capacity for repair. In addition, the aging skin is more susceptible to injury by external stimuli, including ultraviolet rays and environmental pollutants. The combination of these factors predisposes the elderly to a variety of dermatological disorders, including xerosis, pruritus, photoaging, eczematous disorders, and tumors. The elderly (>60 years of age) population in India accounted for 8.6% (104 million) in 2011, and the figure has been projected to increase to 19% by the year 2050. It is imperative to identify the pattern of cutaneous disorders in this population as skin care regimens aimed to improve epidermal function have been shown to be effective in the prevention and treatment of some of these aging-associated cutaneous disorders. Objectives: The objective of the study was to identify the pattern of dermatoses among the elderly population attending the dermatology clinic at a tertiary care hospital in South-east Rajasthan. Materials and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study of patients above the age of 60 years who attended the dermatology clinic at a tertiary care hospital in South-east Rajasthan from May 2018 to May 2020. A combination of history, physical examination, and clinical investigations (when appropriate) were used to establish the diagnosis. Results: A total of 210 patients were included in this study. Most patients were between the age group of 60-65 years (40.47%). One hundred and thirty-eight were male (65.71%) and 72 were female (34.28%), with a male to female ratio of 1.9:1. Our study demonstrated that xerosis was one of the most common diagnoses seen in 126 cases (60%), followed by eczematous skin conditions seen in 82 cases (39%). Conclusion: The elderly constitute an important part of the population. Cutaneous disorders in the elderly range from mild disorders such as cherry angiomas to dermatological malignancies. Therefore, it is important to recognize the pattern of dermatosis in this population so that appropriate therapeutic and preventive strategies could be implemented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An immunocompromised district is an area of irregular immune control of the skin occurring due to cutaneous damage of any sort conducive to the development of infections, immune reactions, and tumors. Superficial dermatophytoses are one of the most commonly encountered cutaneous infections, which, in some cases, may have various atypical presentations. Ectopic cilia, or lash follicles situated over abnormal sites, are an extremely rare entity. Here, we report the case of a 6-year-old-boy who presented with ectopic cilia over the left upper eyelid along with a positive family history. Dermoscopy revealed discreet terminal hair emerging from the individual hair follicles surmounted over a diffuse structureless whitish-yellow zone and a few vellus hairs in the surrounding normal skin. These hairs, on histopathological examination, had multiple pilosebaceous follicular units embedded in a desmoplastic stroma with multiple eccrine sweat glands. Introduction: Leprosy or Hansen's disease poses a drastic impact on the quality of life in affected patients even after successful completion of treatment. The involvement of the endocrine system in leprosy is usually insidious, silent, and under-reported, especially the testicular dysfunction., Aims and Objectives: The present study was aimed at evaluating the abnormalities of the primary testicular hormone testosterone and the gonadotrophins LH and FSH in male patients affected with lepromatous leprosy and assessing the impact of the disease on quality of life (QOL)., Materials and Methods: The study included 43 married male patients diagnosed with lepromatous leprosy. Careful history taking and examination for symptoms of testicular dysfunction were done. Serum concentrations of total testosterone, FSH, and LH were noted. The QOL was evaluated using the WHO Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQoL-BREF)., Results: The most common clinical manifestation of testicular dysfunction was reduced or loss of libido reported in 12 (27.9%) patients followed by gynaecomastia in 7 (16.3%). Ultrasonographic (USG) analysis revealed reduced testicular volume in 31 (72.1%) patients, and average testicular volume was 11.9 ± 4.9 mL each. Seventeen (39.5%) patients had low serum testosterone levels, 9 (20.9%) had high serum FSH level, and 11 (25.6%) high LH levels. There was a significant negative correlation between testosterone level and FSH as well as LH. There was also a significantly positive correlation between testicular volume and testosterone level. Symptomatic patients with gynaecomastia/gynaecothelia had higher hormonal derangement than those who had other symptoms. On QOL, most patients scored lowest on the domain of "social relationships" (including sexual wellbeing) followed by "psychological health"., Conclusion: We found a high rate of USG diagnosed testicular atrophy in lepromatous leprosy patients. Therefore, every leprosy patient should be thoroughly examined clinically to rule out features of testicular dysfunction. Testicular function tests should be routinely carried out in all leprosy patients to arrive at an early diagnosis.
