Abstract

In this study, pnictogen (Pn)‐bridged diphenyl sulfones were synthesized as motifs for photoinduced dynamic rearrangement. The newly synthesized sulfones exhibited dual fluorescence at 298 K. Density functional theory calculations revealed that the longer‐wavelength fluorescence was derived from the geometries after structural relaxation through photo‐driven pnictogen bond formation between the O atom lone pair of the sulfonyl moiety and the antibonding orbital of the Pn−C bond. This is the first report on emission dynamics driven by pnictogen bond formation upon photoexcitation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The crystal structures of cage complex 1b with neutral guest molecules are discussed. The solid structures obtained are found to be in good accordance with solution structures elucidated by NMR, showing that the encapsulation geometry in the solid-state remains unchanged even in solution.

Abstract

Co(salen)-catalyzed tert-butyl hydroperoxide oxidation of tert-butylphenols bearing an unsaturated side chain led to the formation of tert-butylperoxylated products. The nature tert-butylperoxylation rely on the type of unsaturated side chain. The tert-butylperoxylation take place in the ortho position for 4-alkynyl-2,6-di-tert-butylphenols, para position for 4-cyano- or 4-alkyl-2,6-di-tert-butyl phenols and side chain for 4-alkenyl-2,6-di-tert-butylphenols.

40. Crystal Polymorphism-dependent Fluorescence of Fluoroarene-substituted Anthracene Derivatives

Abstract

Fluorine-substituted 1-phenylanthracene derivatives were synthesized and their polymorphism-dependent fluorescence color change (B: blue and G: green) in the crystalline state was observed. For the green luminous crystals (G), a 1D linear π-πstacked structure of the anthracene rings and intermolecular Ar-F⋯H-Ar hydrogen bonding were observed. On the other hand, for the blue luminous crystals (B), weaker or no π-πstacked anthracene rings were observed. These crystallographic observations indicated the existence of the excimer emission and the monomer emission of the anthracene rings for the green (G) and blue (B) luminous crystals, respectively. Interestingly, thermal transformations of the green luminous crystals (G) to the blue luminous crystals (B) were observed. Abstract

An adamantanoid (H2O)(sub 10) cluster is formed, within the hydrophobic cavity of a self-assembled coordination cage, which is termed 'molecular ice' as this structure is the smallest unit of naturally occurring Ic-type ice. The x-ray structural analysis, coupled with neutron diffraction study, reveals that the molecular ice is not simply formed by filling the void space but is a result of specific H2O:...pi interaction within the cage.

Nanometer sized cavities obtained by metal-directed self-assembly have ability to encapsulate large guest molecules and can regulate specific reactions inside the cavity in aqueous media. Neutral molecules with suitable size can be encapsulation into the cavity via the noncovalent interactions due to the hydrophilic environment of the cavity.
