1. Probing dark photons from a light scalar at Belle II

Abstract

In the minimal $U(1)$ extension of the Standard Model (SM), a new gauge boson referred to as "dark photon" is predicted. The dark-photon mass can be generated from an additional Higgs mechanism associated with a dark scalar boson. At $B$-factories such as Belle II, large numbers of $B$-mesons are produced and can decay to a kaon plus the dark scalar via the latter's mixing with the SM Higgs boson. We evaluate the sensitivity of Belle II for the case in which the dark scalar decays exclusively into a pair of dark photons via the new $U(1)$ gauge coupling, and the dark photons are long lived owing to a small kinetic mixing $\epsilon$. We study the experimental signature in which each dark photon decays into a pair of charged leptons, pions, or kaons, resulting in a pair of displaced vertices, and argue that the search is essentially background-free. We perform detailed Monte-Carlo simulations to determine the expected number of signal events at Belle II with an integrated luminosity of 50 ab$^{-1}$, taking into account the efficiencies for both final-state-particle identification and displaced tracking. We find that for experimentally allowed values of the scalar mixing angle and kinematically allowed dark-photon and dark-scalar masses, the proposed search is uniquely sensitive to the medium-$\epsilon$ regime, which is currently mostly unexcluded by experiments., Comment: v1: 14 pages plus appendix and refs, 13 figures and 2 tables; v2: 16 pages plus appendix and refs, 14 figures and 2 tables, major improvement in presentation and accepted for publication in JHEP

Abstract

We propose a novel experimental scheme, called DAMSA (Dump-produced Aboriginal Matter Searches at an Accelerator), for searching for dark-sector particles, using rare nuclear isotope accelerator facilities that provide high-flux proton beams to produce a large number of rare nuclear isotopes. The high-intensity nature of their beams enables the investigation of dark-sector particles, including axion-like particles (ALPs) and dark photons. By contrast, their typical beam energies are not large enough to produce the backgrounds such as neutrinos resulting from secondary charged particles. The detector of DAMSA is then placed immediate downstream of the proton beam dump to maximize the prompt decay signals of dark-sector particles, which are often challenging to probe in other beam-dump-type experiments featuring a longer baseline, at the expense of an enormous amount of the beam-related neutron (BRN) background. We demonstrate that BRN can be significantly suppressed if the signal accompanies multiple, correlated visible particles in the final state. As an example physics case, we consider ALPs interacting with the Standard Model photon and their diphoton decay signal at DAMSA implemented at a rare nuclear isotope facility similar to the Rare isotope Accelerator complex for ON-line experiment under construction in South Korea. We show that the close proximity of the detector to the ALP production dump makes it possible to probe a high-mass region of ALP parameter space that the existing experiments have never explored., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures, 1 table

Abstract

Recently reported anomalies in various $B$ meson decays and also in the anomalous magnetic moment of muon $(g-2)_\mu$ motivate us to consider a particular extension of the standard model incorporating new interactions in lepton and quark sectors simultaneously. Our minimal choice would be leptoquark. In particular, we take vector leptoquark ($U_1$) and comprehensively study all related observables including ${(g-2)_{\mu}},\ R_{K^{(*)}},\ R_{D^{(*)}}$, $B \to (K) \ell \ell' $ where $\ell\ell'$ are various combinations of $\mu$ and $\tau$, and also lepton flavor violation in the $\tau$ decays. We find that a hybrid scenario with additional $U(1)_{B_3-L_2}$ gauge boson provides a common explanation of all these anomalies., Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

We investigate various search strategies for light vector boson $X$ in $\mathcal{O}(10)~{\rm MeV}$ mass range using $J/\Psi$ associated channels at BESIII and Belle II: (i) $J/\Psi \to \eta_c X$ with $10^{10} J/\Psi$s at BESIII, (ii) $J/\Psi (\eta_c +X) +\ell \bar{\ell}$ production at Belle~II, and (iii) $J/\Psi +X$ with the displaced vertex in $X\to e^+e^-$ decay are analyzed and the future sensitivities at Belle II with 50 ${\rm ab}^{-1}$ luminosity are comprehensively studied. By requiring the displaced vertex to be within the beam pipe, the third method results in nearly background-free analysis, and the vector boson-electron coupling and the vector boson mass can be probed in the unprecedented range, $10^{-4}\leq |\varepsilon_e| \leq 10^{-3}$ and $9~{\rm MeV}\leq m_X\leq 100 {\rm MeV}$ with 50 ${\rm ab}^{-1}$ at Belle II. 6. Probing sterile neutrino in $B$ ($D$) meson decays at Belle II (BESIII)

Abstract

We present, how a systematic study of $B \to D\ell N$ ($D \to K \ell N$) decays with $\ell=\mu,\tau$, at Belle II (BESIII) can provide unambiguous signature of a heavy neutrino $N$ and/or constrain its mixing with active neutrinos $\nu_\ell$, which is parameterized by $|U_{\ell N}|^2$. Our constraint on $|U_{\mu N}|^2$ that can be achieved from the full Belle II data is comparable with what can be obtained from the much larger data set of the upgraded LHCb. Additionally, our method offers better constraint on $|U_{\mu N}|^2$ for mass of sterile neutrino $m_N < 2$ GeV. We can also probe the Dirac and Majorana nature of $N$ by observing the sequential decay of $N$, including suppression from observation of a displaced vertex as well as helicity flip, for Majorana $N$., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures. 7. Search for muon-philic new light gauge boson at Belle II

Abstract

Motivated by the long-lasting $3.5\sigma$ discrepancy in the anomalous magnetic moment of muon, we consider a new muon-specific force mediated by a light gauge boson, $X$, with mass $m_X < 2m_\mu$ and the coupling constant $g_X \sim (10^{-4}, 10^{-3})$. We show that the Belle~II experiment has a robust chance to probe such a light boson in $e^+ e^- \to \mu^+ \mu^- + X$ channel and cover the most interesting parameter space explaining the discrepancy with the planned target luminosity, $\int dt \ {\cal L}=50~{\rm ab^{-1}}$. The clean signal of muon-pair plus missing energy at Belle II can be a smoking gun for the new gauge boson. We expect that the (invisibly decaying) muon-philic light ($m_X \leq 2 m_\mu$) gauge boson can be probed down to $g_X \geq 1.5 \times 10^{-4} \ (4.6 \times 10^{-4}, \ 2.3 \times 10^{-4})$ for 50 (1, 10) ab${}^{-1}$ search., Comment: 21 pages, 12 figures, references added, version to appear in JHEP

8. Environmental Monitoring for Belle II

Abstract

The Belle II experiment has just started, searching for physics beyond the Standard Model in $B$, charm and $\tau$ decays using data with the integrated luminosity goal of $50 ~\mathrm{ab}^{-1}$. Before the physics run with full detector system being installed, Belle II Phase 2 run is on-going at the time of the conference, until July 2018. In this presentation, we describe the environmental monitoring system with an emphasis on the software tools to help the experts and the non-expert shifters who operate the experiment. The monitoring tools are prepared on the control room especially for the shift-takers. It consists of thre components: the monitoring GUI, the alarm system, and the archiver. The monitoring GUI shows the current state of the detector and the alarm system generate warning states from monitored variables with sound and email notification. The archiver is collecting data on single server and provide collected data to the experimental collaborators., Comment: Poster presentation at 21st IEEE Real Time Conference (RT2018)

Abstract

Autonomous driving is a complex problem that requires intelligent decision making, and it has recently garnered significant interest due to its potential advantages in convenience and safety. In autonomous driving, conventional path planning to reach a destination is a time-consuming challenge. Therefore, learning-based approaches have been successfully applied to the controller or decision-making aspects of autonomous driving. However, these methods often lack explainability, as passengers cannot discern where the vehicle is headed. Additionally, most experiments primarily focus on highway scenarios, which do not effectively represent road curvature. To address these issues, we propose a reinforcement-learning-based trajectory learning in the Frenet frame (RLTF), which involves learning trajectories in the Frenet frame. Learning trajectories enable the consideration of future states and enhance explainability. We demonstrate that RLTF achieves a 100% success rate in the simulation environment, considering future states on curvy roads with continuous obstacles while overcoming issues associated with the Frenet frame. 16. Anti-charmed pentaquark from B decays

Abstract

We explore the possibility of observing the anti-charmed pentaquark state from the $\Theta_c \bar{n} \pi^+$ decay of $B$ meson produced at $B$-factory experiments. We first show that the observed branching ratio of the $B^+$ to $ \Lambda^-_c p \pi^+$, as well as its open histograms, can be remarkably well explained by assuming that the decay proceeds first through the $\pi^+ \bar{D}^0$ (or $\bar{D}^{*0}$) decay, whose branching ratios are known, and then through the subsequent decay of the virtual $\bar{D}^0$ or $\bar{D}^{*0}$ mesons to $\Lambda_c^- p$, whose strength are calculated using previously fit hadronic parameters. We then note that the $\Theta_c$ can be similarly produced when the virtual $\bar{D}^0$ or $\bar{D}^{*0}$ decay into an anti-nucleon and a $\Theta_c$. Combining the present theoretical estimates for the ratio $g_{D N \Lambda_c} / g_{D N \Theta_c} \sim 13 $ and $g_{D^* N \Theta_c} \sim {1/3} g_{D N \Theta_c}$, we find that the anti-charmed pentaquark $\Theta_c$, which was predicted to be bound by several model calculations, can be produced via $B^+ \to \Theta_c \bar{n} \pi^+$, and be observed from the $B$-factory experiments through the weak decay of $\Theta_c \to p K^+ \pi^- \pi^- $., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, Revised version to be published in Physical Review Letters

Abstract

Imaging modalities for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), such as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) or optical coherence tomography (OCT), have increased in the current PCI era. However, their clinical benefits in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have not been fully elucidated. This study investigated the long-term outcomes of image-guided PCI in patients with AMI using data from the Korean Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry. A total of 9,271 patients with AMI, who underwent PCI with second-generation drug-eluting stents between November 2011 and December 2015, were retrospectively examined, and target lesion failure (TLF) at 3 years (defined as the composite of cardiac death, target vessel myocardial infarction, and ischemia-driven target lesion revascularization) was evaluated. From the registry, 2,134 patients (23.0%) underwent image-guided PCI (IVUS-guided: n = 1,919 [20.6%]; OCT-guided: n = 215 patients [2.3%]). Based on propensity score matching, image-guided PCI was associated with a significant reduction in TLF (hazard ratio: 0.76; 95% confidence interval: 0.59–0.98, p = 0.035). In addition, the TLF incidence in the OCT-guided PCI group was comparable to that in the IVUS-guided PCI group (5.3% vs 4.7%, p = 0.903). Image-guided PCI, including IVUS and OCT, is associated with favorable clinical outcomes in patients with AMI at 3 years post-intervention. Abstract

Physical review / D 107, L031103 (2023). doi:10.1103/PhysRevD.107.L031103, We report on a measurement of the $\Omega_c^0$ lifetime using $\Omega_c^0 \to \Omega^-\pi^+$ decays reconstructed in $e^+e^-\to c\bar{c}$ data collected by the Belle II experiment and corresponding to $207~{\rm fb^{-1}}$ of integrated luminosity. Abstract

Recently reported anomalies in various B-meson decays and also in the anomalous magnetic moment of muon (g − 2)$_{μ}$ motivate us to consider a particular extension of the standard model incorporating new interactions in the lepton and quark sectors simultaneously. Our minimal choice would be the leptoquark. In particular, we take the vector leptoquark (U$_{1}$) and comprehensively study all related observables including , B → (K)ℓℓ′, where ℓℓ′ are various combinations of μ and τ, and also lepton flavor violation in the τ decays. We find that a hybrid scenario with an additional gauge boson provides a common explanation for all these anomalies.

39. Contract Formation and Third Party Beneficiaries in Korea

Abstract

This chapter 14 discusses the rules on contract formation and third party beneficiaries in Korea. These can be found in the Korean Civil Code of 1960 that is closely modelled on the Japanese Civil Code, therefore many of its solutions can be ultimately traced back to German law. For a binding contract to be made, Korean law only requires an agreement which is normally constituted by an offer and a matching acceptance; there is no requirement of consideration, and as a general rule there is freedom of form—only limited statutory exceptions impose formal requirements for specific types of contract. Offers must be sufficient and sufficiently definite, and they must be made with the intention to be legally bound. They become effective once they reach the offeree. After that they are, in principle, irrevocable—a position only slightly softened by a 2014 Ministry of Justice draft amendment. The draft also suggests abolishing the common law-style ‘mailbox rule’ that the Code inherited from the Japanese Civil Code.

We study the potential impacts of a new type of particle collider -- an $e��$ collider -- on the search for new physics beyond the Standard Model.
