We present a precise measurement of the cross section, proton and 3He analyzing powers, and spin correlation coefficient Cy,y for the p-3He elastic scattering near 65 MeV, and comparison with rigorous four-nucleon scattering calculations based on realistic nuclear potentials and a model with Δ-isobar excitation. Clear discrepancies are seen in some of the measured observables in the regime around the cross section minimum. Theoretical predictions using scaling relations between the calculated cross section and the 3He binding energy are not successful in reproducing the data. Large sensitivity to the NN potentials and rather small Δ-isobar effects in the calculated cross section are noticed as different features from those in the deuteron-proton elastic scattering. The results obtained above indicate that p-3He scattering at intermediate energies is an excellent tool to explore the nuclear interactions not accessible by the three-nucleon scattering.

- Abstract
The structure of a neutron-rich F-25 nucleus is investigated by a quasifree (p, 2p) knockout reaction at 270A MeV in inverse kinematics. The sum of spectroscopic factors of pi 0d(5/2) orbital is found to be 1.0 +/- 0.3. However, the spectroscopic factor with residual O-24 nucleus being in the ground state is found to be only 0.36 +/- 0.13, while those in the excited state is 0.65 +/- 0.25. The result shows that the O-24 core of F-25 nucleus significantly differs from a free O-24 nucleus, and the core consists of similar to 35% O-24(g.s.). and similar to 65% excited O-24. The result may infer that the addition of the 0d(5/2) proton considerably changes neutron structure in F-25 from that in O-24, which could be a possible mechanism responsible for the oxygen dripline anomaly.

Abstract Background Long‐term survival can be achieved with radical local therapy in some cases of postoperative recurrence of non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Here, we evaluated post‐recurrence survival (PRS) after treatment of postoperative recurrent epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutated NSCLC and examined the effectiveness of radical local therapy. Methods This multicenter prospective cohort study was conducted in 14 hospitals. The inclusion criteria for this study were patients with recurrence after radical resection for NSCLC. Information about the patient characteristics at recurrence, tumor‐related variables, primary surgery, and treatment for recurrence was collected. After registration, follow‐up data (e.g., treatment and survival outcomes) were obtained and analyzed. Results From 2010 to 2015, 505 patients with recurrent NSCLC were enrolled into the study, and 154 EGFR mutation‐positive cases were included. As the initial treatment for recurrence, 111 patients (72%) received chemotherapy, 14 (9%) received chemoradiotherapy, 14 (9%) received definitive radiotherapy, and seven (5%) received surgical resection. The remaining eight patients (5%) received supportive care. The median PRS and 5‐year survival rates for all cases were 64 months and 53.2%, respectively. The 5‐year survival rate according to the initial treatment was as follows: supportive care, 0%; chemotherapy, 53.3% and radical local therapy, 60.1%. The six patients who received radical local treatment remained recurrence‐free for more than 3 years after recurrence with only initial treatment. Conclusions Although radical local therapy may be curative in some patients, chemotherapy including EGFR‐TKI treatment is expected to provide long‐term survival comparable to that of radical local therapy.

- Abstract
This book introduces the basic concepts of environmental fluid dynamics. It is intended for use by students, researchers, engineers, and specialists working not only in general fluid research but also in the atmospheric and oceanic research fields. The Earth is covered by atmosphere and oceans and is exposed to solar wind. Therefore, the knowledge of fluid dynamics is essential for tackling its environmental issues. Although many textbooks have treated fluid dynamics, practically no book has been published that clearly describes all essential ideas, from the fundamentals of fluid dynamics to advanced environmental sciences, with careful sequential explanations of the governing mathematics. This book has been developed to solve these educational problems and has actually been in use in lectures in the graduate school of Kyushu University for more than 15 years.

type:Journal Article, Flashover voltage estimation has been carried out conventionally with the up-and-down method by Dixon and Mood. Recently, Hirose and Kato proposed a new version of the method to change the way of analyzing data. Although the method has better properties than the conventional one, it requires solving maximum likelihood equations. In this paper we reduce the troublesome task (e.g. implementation and the selection of a proper initial value) attendant on the requirement by using the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm that gives a useful iterative formula to solve the equations. The iterative formula almost always can give the solutions of the likelihood equations because of its excellent global convergence of the EM algorithm

type:Journal Article, The irreversibility line and the vortex glass-liquid transition line under a magnetic field parallel to the c-axis are investigated for silver-sheathed and dip-coated Bi-2212 tape wires. It is found that the two characteristic lines for silver-sheathed tape is well explained by the flux creep-flow model assuming the distribution of pinning strength with a single peak. On the other hand, general agreements are obtained for these characteristic lines and the critical current density between experiments and theory only when two peaks are assumed in the distribution of flux pinning strength for the dip-coated tape. 9. Dependence on metalloid content for magnetic properties of Fe-Si-B metallic glasses

type:Journal Article, On the splat-cooled metallic (Fe0.79Si0.21) 1-xBx glasses the concentration dependence of the magnetic properties has been investigated. For representative specimens, magnetic domain structures have been observed. The crystallization temperature increases and the Curie temperature monotonously decreases from 713K to 671K contrary to the result for reported Fe-P-C or Fe-P-B glasses as the metalloid content is increased. The highest value of crystallization temperature (797K) is about 150K higher than those for iron-rich glassy alloys reported up to now. The coercive force also depends on the boron content and the lowest value (0.04 Oe) has been obtained at about X=0.10. The magnetization process is discussed in the light of domain patterns observed

type:Journal Article, Composition dependence of the magnetic moment and Curie temperature in amorphous (FexCo100-x)100-(y+z)SiyB z ribbons has been studied systematically with changing x, y, and z. A knee suggesting a peak was found in the magnetic moment vs. metalloid content curve for Fe-Si-B alloys, while the moment of Co-Si-B alloys decreases nearly linearly with increasing metalloid content. The moment of (FeCo)-Si-B alloys decreases monotonously with decreasing iron content. A clear peak in the Curie temperature vs. metalloid content curve was found not only for Fe-Si-B alloys but also for Co-Si-B alloys. The Curie temperature of (FeCo)-Si-B alloys peaks for varying iron content independently of the amount of total metalloid contained in the alloys. These behaviors are discussed in the framework of the Slater-Bethe's curve

- Abstract
The primary objective is to develop a fabrication method of ZnO based on magnetron sputtering, impurity-mediated crystallization (IMC) , where crystal nucleation and the growth are controlled by adsorbed impurities on the growth surface. By utilizing ZnO films prepared by IMC method as buffer layers (IMC buffer layers), two kinds of high-quality ZnO based semiconductors have been fabricated, the properties of which are superior to those of conventional ZnO films fabricated without IMC buffer layers.

- Abstract
An Al-10.8wt%Ag alloy was subjected to aging treatment followed by Equal-Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) (designated process AE) or ECAP followed by aging treatment (designated process EA). Hardness measurements were undertaken with respect to the number of ECAP passes for process AE or with respect to aging time for process EA. Microstructures were examined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) including X-ray mapping. The dynamical behavior of two coupled chaotic oscillators caused by the current-driven ion acoustic instability is experimentally studied. 16. Magnetism of Cobalt Base Artificial Lattice Films

- Abstract
The Co/Pd and Co/Pd artificial lattice films have attracted much interest by their special magnetization properties. We discussed the effect of the Pt, Pd layer thickness on the magnetic anisotropy, and we showed the effect of the hydrogen ion implantation on the magnetic properties of multi-layered films. The Co/Pt and Co/Pd multi-layered films were formed on Si(111) substrates with molecular beam epitaxy. We did structure analysis, magnetic domain analysis and magnetic properties evaluation with XRD, MFM and VSM, respectively. Among the series of films of 0.4 nm Co layer, XRD showed that the film of 1.0 nm Pt layer had a highest periodicity and that they had (111) plane orientation completely. The magnetic domain size reduced with the increase of the thickness of Pt layer. We found out that the coercivity decreased linearly as a function of the length of magnetic domain wall in the unit area. The result of VSM showed that the multi-layered films of Pt thickness of less than 2.8 nm had perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The perpendicular anisotropy energy changed by the nonmagnetic layer thickness and had a maximum value for 0.4 nm Co 0.4 nm/nonmagnetic metal 1.0 nm multi-layered film. After hydrogen implantation into the films, XRD showed that the lattice spacing was swelled with hydrogen dose. Also, MFM observed that the magnetic domain size reduced with the increase of the hydrogen dose. The easy axis of magnetization changed from perpendicular to parallel in the plane with the increase of the hydrogen dose. After evacuation of hydrogen at 473 K, perpendicular anisotropy was partially recovered. This phenomenon suggested that the origin of magnetic anisotropy was mainly the lattice mismatch and distortion in the layer interface. But Co/Pd film was not recovered by this thermal treatment. - Abstract
This paper describes numerical simulation of rarefied nozzle plume impingements. Two different reservoir pressures 400 kPa and 4 kPa are considered, In the case of 400 kPa, the simulation of the nozzle flow was conducted by using the Navier-Stokes equation and then the analysis of the plume flow was carried out by the DSMC method employing the nozzle exit conditions obtained by Navier-Stokes equation. On the other hand., for 4 kPa both the nozzle flow and the plume impingement have been calculated using the DSMC method. Concerning the angle between the nozzle axis and the flat plate, three kinds of angle are selected, that is 90 degrees, 45 degrees and 0 degrees. In addition, we considered the case where there exists a flat plate behind the nozzle. Simulated results have been compared with the existing experiments for the pressure and shear stress distributions on the flat plate. A good agreement between the DSMC results and the experiments are shown. We previously found that an amphipathic alpha-helical peptide Ac-(Leu-Ala-Arg-Leu)3-NHCH3 (4 sub 3) showed various biological activities and fused liposomes.

Preterm low-birth-weight infants remain difficult to manage based on adequate laboratory tests. The aim of this study was to establish blood reference intervals (RIs) in those newborns who were admitted to and survived in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). A multicenter prospective study was conducted among all infants admitted to 11 affiliated NICUs from 2010 to 2013. The clinical information and laboratory data were registered in a network database designed for this study. The RIs for 26 items were derived using the parametric method after applying the latent abnormal values exclusion method. The influence of birth weight (BW) and gestational age (GA) on the test results was expressed in terms of the standard deviation ratio (SDR), as SDRBW and SDRGA, respectively. A total of 3189 infants were admitted during the study period; 246 were excluded due to a lack of blood sampling data, and 234 were excluded for chromosomal abnormalities (n = 108), congenital anomalies requiring treatment with surgical procedures (n = 76), and death or transfer to another hospital (n = 50). As a result, 2709 infants were enrolled in this study. Both the SDRGA and SDRBW were above 0.4 in the test results for total protein (TP), albumin (ALB), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and red blood cells (RBC); their values increased in proportion to the BW and GA. We derived 26 blood RIs for infants who were admitted to NICUs. These RIs should help in the performance of proper clinical assessments and research in the field of perinatal-neonatal medicine.

- Abstract
Five species of freshwater crabs were collected at four localities in Panama, of which three species were identified as Potamocarcinus richmondi, Ptychophallus montanus cocleensis and Ptychophallus exilepes. The latter two species were new hosts of Paragonimus. Fifty-two or 18% of 293 crabs were infected with 105 Paragonimus metacercariae, which were separated into 13 A-forms, 91 B-forms and one C-form. The A-form was identified as Paragonimus peruvianus Miyazaki et al., 1969, and the B-form as P. caliensis Little, 1968, but the C-form was unknown. P. exilipes harbored mainly B-form, and the other crabs mainly A-form. The metacercaria of P. peruvianus was first found in Costa Rica at two localities mainly from Ptychophallus tristani and rarely from Potamocarcinus magnus., See also annual rept. no. 10, AD-767 753.

- Abstract
At the first workshop, the authors presented the results calculated by three kinds of low speed theories; (1) the modified low speed theory (MLST), (2) the conventional one (LST), and (3) Guevel's theory. Among them, the results of MLST agreed comparably well with Dawson's. He used the Rankine source and the same free surface condition as MLST for wall sided hull, as later pointed out by Mori. This fact encouraged us to adopt MLST and LST again for calculating the wave-resistance of the vertical cylinders with an ogival and an elliptical water planes. The authors also present the purely numerical results which are obtained by the fundamental equations of the low speed theory and Chan's finite difference scheme. Computations are made for the same vertical cylinders. Through the computations performed, the authors concluded that if the results obtained by the low speed theory are fin, the analytical method is still effective in evaluating wave-resistance, because the computer time is very short., This article is from 'Proceedings of the DTNSRDC (David W. - Abstract
The connections between the retinula cells of the compound eye and the neural elements in the optic lobe in fleshly (Boettcherisca peregrina) were observed by electron microscopy. The ommatidium consisted of eight retinula cells: six ordinary retinula cells, one central retinula cell and one basal retinula cell. The axons of ordinary retinula cells (short fibers) terminated at the lamina, whereas two extraordinary retinula cells extended their proximal axons (long fibers) to the medulla. Five or six short fibers crowded around two axons of monopolar ganglion cells at the lamina, constituting the neurommatidium where they held the repeated synaptic contacts with the monopolar axons. Many spherical invaginations were discovered at the axon membranes of short fiber in the neurommatidium. Such peculiar structures as well as the cytoarchitecture at the lamina were discussed in relation to possible functions.

- Abstract
Studies of kappa-type phage: The host range, serological properties and electron microscope morphology of kappa-type phage which is produced specifically by the Celebes type El Tor vibrio were investigated. Kappa-type phage inducing effects of ultraviolet light and mitomycin C were also examined. Lysogenicity of kappa-type phage in El Tor vibrio appeared to be unstable. A kappa-type phage detection method for rapid diagnosis of Celebes type El Tor vibrio carriers was deviced. Application of fluorescent antibody technique to cholera studies: Applicability and limitation of fluorescent antibody technique on diagnosis of cholera vibrio, and cross staining reaction of various vibrios including NAG vibrios and V. parahemolyticus with fluorescent antibody technique were surveyed. Biochemical properties of so-called water vibrios: Biochemical properties of 43 strains of water vibrios were studied and compared with those of known vibrio strains.

- Abstract
Eight human subjects experienced a series of +Gz acceleration profiles reaching peak values of +41/2 Gz and +6 Gz. Each subject experienced six 45-second +Gz exposures within 15 minutes. Electroencephalograms (EEG) were made throughout this period and subjected to a narrow-band spectral analysis within 10-second epochs. The subjects wore protective G-suits, and did not experience impairment of central vision during the runs analyzed. Small increases in spectral intensity of the EEG were seen during eyes-closed, resting epochs following +Gz exposure. These increases did not change overall shape of spectral profiles and did not exceed normal levels of EEG intensity. During +Gz forces with eyes open, the raw EEG was dominated by electromyographic (EMG) activity, which was typically proportional to instantaneous +Gz force but might also reflect paroxysmal whole-body contractions occurring at scattered points in the +Gz exposure profile. Increased EEG intensities greatly exceeding basal levels for certain narrow frequency bands were observed during actual +Gz exposures. In all subjects, a return to normal EEG spectral intensity profiles took place within 30 seconds of termination of acceleration. - Abstract
In Peru, two adult lung flukes were obtained from a 36-year-old Peruvian male, who had never been outside Peru and was suspected to have become infected near Aguaytia, a small town in Amazon area. The worms did not show their normal morphology due to bithionol. In Tingo Maria, about 60 kilometers from Aguaytia, an undescribed metacercaria of Paragonimus was found from one of 13 crabs, Pseudothelphusa chilensis collected in the university campus, and two persons living in the campus were positive for skin test, but negative for eggs. In Cajamarca northern part of Peru, P.caliensis was first recognized as the second lung fluke in this country. In Achiote, Colon Province, Panama, six of nine crabs, Pseudothelphusa richmondi were proved to be infected with Paragonimus metacercariae, which were separated into two species by their characteristics. The first species was identified as P.peruvianus, and the second one was presumed to belong to P.mexicanus. (Author)

- Abstract
In Japan, Angustassiminea nitida var. was found to be a new snail host for P. iloktsuenensis on Amami-Oshima Is. and for P ohirai on Tanegashimo Is. of Kagoshima Prefecture. By using a scanning electron microscope, the body surface of cercariae of P. miyazakii and P. iloktsuenensis as well as eggshells of P. kellicotti, P. mexicanus and P. peruvianus were clearly demonstrated. Outside Japan, P. macrorchis and P. siamensis were recognized in Ceylon, and Parathelphusa rugosa and ceylonensis were decided as the crab host for the former and the latter fluke, respectively. P. siamensis was recognized also in India. In Laos, adults of P. heterotremus were removed from the human lungs, showing medical importance of this fluke in Laos and in Thailand. In Korea, two forms of Paragonimus were noted from Eriocheir japonicus on Cheju Is. In Peru, the metacercaria of P. peruvianus was clarified for the first time, and it was concluded that the human disease in Cajamarca Province is not caused by P. westermani, but by the indigenous lung fluke, P. Peruvianus. (Author)

- Abstract
Various parts of the stomach smooth muscle membrane showed the similar passive properties with those observed in the intestine. Spontaneous discharges of spike appeared on a slow depolarization (slow wave). Tetrodotoxine and atropine decreased the amplitude of slow wave and then ceased the spike generation. On the other hand, MnCl2 blocked the spike generation first and then lowered the amplitude of the slow wave. The slow wave was reduced in amplitude by treatment with tetrodotoxine and atropine and enhanced by prostigmine. Chronaxie for the spike generation was 26 msec, condition velocity was 1.2 cm/sec and the time constant of the foot of the propagated spike was 28 msec. (Author)

- Abstract
During past one year the following results were obtained: (1) As the host of P. miyazakii, a small snail, Bythinella nipponica akiyoshiensis was first determined by experiments. In addition, this snail was proved to be less susceptible to P. ohirai and non-susceptible to P. westermani. (2) The brown rat, Rattus norvegicus and the wild boar, Sus scrofa leucomystax were revealed to be the final host of P. miyazakii. (3) P. sadoensis was found as a new lung fluke on Sado Island, Niigata prefecture, which was proved to be able to mature in the albino rat, Rattus norvegicus, R. rattus, Mus molossinus and the dog. (4) Tricula minima was decided as the snail host of P. sadoensis. Its cercaria was first studied under the scanning electron microscope. (5) In Thailand, P. harinasutai was discovered as a new lung fluke, the metacercaria of which was abundantly parasitic in a crab, Potamon smithianus. Its egg was similar to that of P. westermani in morphology. (6) In Malaysia, two kinds of crab, Parathelphusa maculata and Potamicus cognatus were added to the list of the crab host for P. westermani. (7) In Indonesia, India and USSR, the existence of P. westermani was re-confirmed. (8) In Mexico, two species of Paragonimus were recognized, and one was most probably a new species and the other was similar to the new fluke found in Colombia. (Author)

- Abstract
Below 60 mV of membrane potential, overshoot potential and 11-18 V/sec of the maximum rate of rise of the spike were measured from various parts of longitudinal and circular muscles of the intestine. Conduction velocities of the longitudinal muscles of jejunum and rectum under tetrodotoxin were 2.1 and 4.0 cm/sec respectively and chronaxies of them were 2-5 and 5-18 msec respectively. Effective membrane resistance of the above two tissues was the same and showed 40-50 M ohms and time constant was 3-5 msec. Time constants measured by extracellular polarization were differed by the tissues. Relation between the membrane properties and morphological arrangements of the tissues was discussed. (Author)

- Abstract
By the use of kappa-type phage, El Tor cholera vibrios were classified into 'Celebes type' and 'Classic-Ubon type', and the 'Celebes type' was further divided into 'Original' and 'Cured' strains. This phage-typing was applied to epidemiological studies. Biologic properties of 'Cured' strains and properties of phages liberated from Inaba type El Tor cholera vibrios and some Asiatic cholera vibrios were clarified. The kappa-type phage could be liberated from spheroplast form of Celebes type El Tor cholera vibrios cells, and its significance was discussed in relation to the detection of long-term carriers. Successful results of the application of phage detection method to carrier studies were described, and furthermore, a new phage-enrichment method for detection of long-term carriers was devised. The fluorescent antibody stainability of flagellum of El Tor cholera vibrio after heating or trichloracetic acid treatment was examined. (Author)

To access publisher's full text version of this article click on the hyperlink at the bottom of the page To further understanding of the genetic basis of type 2 diabetes (T2D) susceptibility, we aggregated published meta-analyses of genome-wide association studies (GWAS), including 26,488 cases and 83,964 controls of European, east Asian, south Asian and Mexican and Mexican American ancestry. We observed a significant excess in the directional consistency of T2D risk alleles across ancestry groups, even at SNPs demonstrating only weak evidence of association. By following up the strongest signals of association from the trans-ethnic meta-analysis in an additional 21,491 cases and 55,647 controls of European ancestry, we identified seven new T2D susceptibility loci. Furthermore, we observed considerable improvements in the fine-mapping resolution of common variant association signals at several T2D susceptibility loci. These observations highlight the benefits of trans-ethnic GWAS for the discovery and characterization of complex trait loci and emphasize an exciting opportunity to extend insight into the genetic architecture and pathogenesis of human diseases across populations of diverse ancestry.
