Abstract

Abstract In this paper we propose a method for predicting the user mental state for the development of more efficient and usable spoken dialogue systems. This prediction, carried out for each user turn in the dialogue, makes it possible to adapt the system dynamically to the user needs. The mental state is built on the basis of the emotional state of the user and their intention, and is recognized by means of a module conceived as an intermediate phase between natural language understanding and the dialogue management in the architecture of the systems. We have implemented the method in the UAH system, for which the evaluation results with both simulated and real users show that taking into account the user's mental state improves system performance as well as its perceived quality.

Abstract

Spoken dialogue systems are computer programs developed to interact with users employing speech in order to provide them with specific automated services. The interaction is carried out by means of dialogue turns, which in many studies available in the literature, researchers aim to make as similar as possible to those between humans in terms of naturalness, intelligence and affective content. In this paper we describe the fundaments of these systems including the main technologies employed for their development. We also present an evolution of this technology and discuss some current applications. Moreover, we discuss development paradigms, including scripting languages and the development of conversational interfaces for mobile apps. The correct modelling of the user is a key aspect of this technology. This is why we also describe affective, personality and contextual models. Finally, we address some current research trends in terms of verbal communication, multimodal interaction and dialogue management., Los sistemas de diálogo son programas de ordenador desarrollados para interaccionar con los usuarios mediante habla, con la finalidad de proporcionarles servicios automatizados. La interacción se lleva a cabo mediante turnos de un tipo de diálogo que, en muchos estudios existentes en la literatura, los investigadores intentan que se parezca lo más posible al diálogo real que se lleva a cabo entre las personas en lo que se refiere a naturalidad, inteligencia y contenido afectivo. En este artículo describimos los fundamentos de esta tecnología, incluyendo las tecnologías básicas que se utilizan para implementar este tipo de sistemas. También presentamos una evolución de la tecnología y comentamos algunas aplicaciones actuales. Asimismo, describimos paradigmas de interacción, incluyendo lenguajes de script y desarrollo de interfaces conversacionales para aplicaciones móviles. Un aspecto clave de esta tecnología consiste en realizar un correcto modelado del usuario. Por este motivo, discutimos diversos modelos afectivos, de personalidad y contextuales. Finalmente, comentamos algunas líneas de investigación actuales relacionadas con la comunicación verbal, interacción multimodal y gestión del diálogo.

Abstract

En este artículo se presenta un sistema de diálogo hablado en desarrollo llamado TRIVIAL, cuya finalidad es favorecer el aprendizaje de contenidos docentes por parte de los alumnos de la Universidad de Granada. La interacción entre los usuarios y el sistema se lleva a cabo mediante diálogos en lenguaje natural realizados de forma oral, por lo que el sistema se diferencia claramente de otras herramientas de apoyo a la docencia basadas en Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones (TICs). Creemos que el sistema puede fomentar el desarrollo del espacio innovador promovido por el Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior (EEES), pues permite dar una visión diferente de las asignaturas, en la que el alumno es el actor principal del proceso de aprendizaje. This paper presents a spoken dialogue system under development called TRIVIAL, which has been designed to support the learning of didactic contents by students of the University of Granada. System-user interaction is handled by means of dialogues carried out in natural language by means of speech. Abstract

En este artículo se presenta un sistema que tiene como finalidad ayudar a alumnos universitarios a adquirir los conocimientos explicados por los profesores durante las clases de teoría y prácticas. El sistema, denominado TRIVIAL en honor al juego de sobremesa "Trivial Pursuit", formula preguntas y espera respuestas de los alumnos, realizándose la interacción en lenguaje natural a través del teléfono. Al finalizar la interacción, el sistema informa al alumno del número de preguntas realizadas, número de preguntas respondidas, y número de preguntas respondidas correctamente.
