Lately silver has become extremely important among alloying additives used to produce glassy materials with specific tailored properties. The aim of the study is to characterize bioactive glasses belonging to the CaO–SiO2–P2O5–Ag2O system by SEM and EDX methods, as well as biocomposites based on natural rubber containing those fillers. The focus is on the influence that silver oxide and the mechanism of its effect have upon the properties of glasses and biocomposites. The results show that silver particles serve as crystallization centers for apatite formation in sol–gel glasses what leads to a serious change in the morphology and size of crystals and consequently in glass microstructure. Particles in the form of plates have been identified. This is an indication of silver-stimulated crystalline structure. A relation between the hydroxylapatite plaque and the concentration of silver particles has been found. The influence of silver oxide is expressed in noticeable changes in the adsorption texture properties of the glasses. In the composites, the aggregation of the filler particles has been observed and their size increases in the presence of silver oxide. The hydroxylapatite formed as a stand-alone phase in the sol–gel glass and acting as a filler has the most important role in tailoring the composite characteristics.

A novel flexible polymer/fabric fractal monopole antenna with a wideband performance is presented. A thin sheet of highly conductive fabric and a natural rubber‐based composite have been used for conductive and non‐conductive parts of the antenna, which allow keeping the antenna as flexible and thin as possible. The proposed antenna has been simulated, prototyped and tested. Results show that the antenna has a simulated impedance bandwidth of 3.8 GHz (2.2–6.0 GHz) and a measured impedance bandwidth of 3.7 GHz (2.3–6.0 GHz) to cover the most commonly used standards in wireless communication systems. The radiation efficiency of the antenna reaches over 93% throughout the operating frequency band with satisfactory radiation patterns and gain.

Glass ceramics from the CaO–P2O5–SiO2 system were synthesized. They were characterized by XRD, SEM and EDX methods. It was found that they contain two crystalline [Whitlockite, Ca3 (PO4)2 and Hydroxylapatite, Ca5 (PO4)3 (OH)] and one residual amorphous phase. The ceramics are composed of porous aggregates of fine particles with predominant macro- and mesopores in it. The ceramics were used as a functional filler in natural rubber based composites, as the filling is in the range of 5–50 phr. The influence of the chemical nature and structure of the ceramics and the degree of filling on the vulcanization characteristics, physicomechanical parameters, dielectric and dynamic properties, the coefficient of thermal conductivity and the volume resistivity, including external pressure or bending on the specimens were investigated. An influence of the filler and the degree of filling on all studied properties was found. All tested composites have dielectric parameters (ε′, real part of complex permittivity; ε′′, imaginary part of complex permittivity; σ, conductivity; tanδ ɛ, tangent from dielectric loss angle) suitable for use as substrates and insulating layers of flexible antennas. Particularly impressive are composites containing 30 and 50 phr fillers, which have the lowest tangent from dielectric loss angle values.

International audience; Excited states of the neutron-rich Br89 have been observed for the first time. They were populated in cold-neutron induced fission of U235 at the PF1B facility of the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble. The measurement of γ radiation following fission has been performed using the EXILL array of Ge detectors. The observed level structure looks similar to the yrast level structure of Br87. Large valence space shell model calculations performed for Br89 confirmed this similarity. Comparison of the observed πg9/2 band with the results of the shell model calculations provides information on the evolution of collectivity in this region.

The vulcanization properties, physicochemical, dielectric, and electrical properties of natural rubber-based composites were investigated and compared. The composites contain 30–70 phr functional fillers having low (silicon dioxide (SiO2)) and high (titanium dioxide (TiO2)) dielectric constant values. The possibilities of using the composites as substrates in compact flexible antennas have been evaluated. Fillers are also characterized. It has been shown that they have a noticeable but different influence on all the properties of the composites studied. That is primarily due to the different structure and specific properties of SiO2 and TiO2, thereby determining the different “filler–filler” and “rubber–filler” interactions. The composite filled with TiO2 at 70 phr has a better capacity to act as a substrate in body area network antennas than the SiO2-filled composites. An antenna with such a substrate has features that meet all the requirements of the industrial, science, and medical spectrum. TiO2 composites do not change their resistance to pressure or deflection within certain limits, having a self-cleaning and antibacterial effect, which is also beneficial for their usage in antennas that are left on or near the human body.

Medium-spin excited states of the neutron-rich nucleus $^{87}\mathrm{Br}$ were observed and studied for the first time. They were populated in fission of $^{235}\mathrm{U}$ induced by the cold-neutron beam of the PF1B facility of the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble. The measurement of $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ radiation following fission was performed using the EXILL array of Ge detectors. The observed level scheme was compared with results of large valence space shell model calculations. The medium-spin level scheme consists of three bandlike structures, which can be understood as bands built on the $\ensuremath{\pi}{f}_{5/2}$, $\ensuremath{\pi}({p}_{3/2}+{f}_{5/2})$, and $\ensuremath{\pi}{g}_{9/2}$ configurations. The behavior of the observed $\ensuremath{\pi}{g}_{9/2}$ band at high spins shows a considerable deviation from the shell model predictions. This deviation in this band is probably the result of an increased collectivity, which can be understood assuming that the $\ensuremath{\pi}{g}_{9/2}$ high-$\mathit{j}$ proton polarizes the core.

The rapid development of wearable wireless sensor networks (W-WSNs) has created high demand for small and flexible antennas. In this paper, we present small, flexible, low-profile, light-weight all-textile antennas for application in W-WSNs and investigate the impact of the textile materials on the antenna performance. A step-by-step procedure for design, fabrication and measurement of small wearable backed antennas for application in W-WSNs is also suggested. Based on the procedure, an antenna on a denim substrate is designed as a benchmark. It demonstrates very small dimensions and a low-profile, all while achieving a bandwidth (|S11| &lt, &minus, 6 dB) of 285 MHz from 2.266 to 2.551 GHz, radiation efficiency more than 12% in free space and more than 6% on the phantom. Also, the peak 10 g average SAR is 0.15 W/kg. The performance of the prototype of the proposed antenna was also evaluated using an active test. To investigate the impact of the textile materials on the antenna performance, the antenna geometry was studied on cotton, polyamide-elastane and polyester substrates. It has been observed that the lower the loss tangent of the substrate material, the narrower the bandwidth. Moreover, the higher the loss tangent of the substrate, the lower the radiation efficiency and SAR.

In this paper, a flexible and compact multiband wearable antenna with a simple and low-profile structure is proposed and investigated. It is able to operate over the frequency ranges from 0.824 GHz to 0.975 GHz and from 1.90 to GHz to 6 GHz, covering the most of identified frequency bands for biomedical applications. Moreover, the antenna demonstrates robust on-body performance and provides a suitable balance between small antenna size, high on-body radiation efficiency (between 5% and 11% for operating frequency bands), and a low value of the maximum 10 g specific absorption rate (0.47 W/kg) on a homogeneous semisolid phantom.

This chapter provides a brief overview of the types of wearable antennas with high body-antenna isolation. The main parameters and characteristics of wearable antennas and their design requirements are discussed. Next, procedures (passive and active) to test the performance of wearable antennas are presented. The electromagnetic properties of the commercially available textiles used as antenna substrates are investigated and summarized here, followed by a more detailed examination of their effects on the performance of wearable antennas with high body-antenna isolation. A trade-off between substrate electromagnetic properties and resonant frequency, bandwidth, radiation efficiency, and maximum gain is presented. Finally, a case study is presented with detailed analyses and investigations of the low-profile all-textile wearable antennas with high body-antenna isolation and low SAR. Their interaction with a semisolid homogeneous human body phantom is discussed. The simulations and experimental results from different (in free-space and on-body) scenarios are presented.

This paper focuses on the characterization of the electromagnetic (EM) properties of textiles (polar fleece, cotton, denim, polyester, and polyamide-elastane) and study of their impact on the performance of a wearable antenna. EM properties are measured by the cavity perturbation method, and it is found that the textile materials exhibit low values of complex relative permittivity between 1. $2+i0.002$ and 1. $9+i0.1$. A hexagonal-shaped monopole antenna with a substrate from polar fleece and high body-antenna isolation (front-to-back ratio 31 dB) is designed to serve the performance baseline. Additionally, prototypes on cotton, denim, polyester, and polyamide-elastane substrates are simulated, fabricated, and measured. Results show that radiation efficiency, gain and directivity decrease with increasing dielectric losses in the textile substrate. Further numerical investigations reveal that each of these five textile antennas achieves stable on-body performance in the frequency range of 2.4 to 2.5 GHz when it is placed on a flat phantom.

A flexible broadband antenna with high radiation efficiency for the Internet of Things (IoT) applications is presented. The design is based on a U-shaped and a triangular-shaped radiator with two tuning stubs. A 50 Ω coplanar waveguide (CPW) transmission line is employed to feed the antenna. The proposed antenna is fabricated on a flexible substrate from a composite synthesized by mixing natural rubber with SiO2 as a filler. The radiating elements, along with the CPW, are built using a highly conductive woven fabric. Results show that the antenna has a simulated and measured impedance bandwidth of 0.856–2.513 GHz and covers the most commonly used wireless communication standards and technologies for IoT applications. The radiation efficiency of the antenna reaches over 75% throughout the operating frequency band with satisfactory radiation patterns and gain. The flexible antenna was also tested under bending conditions. The presented results demonstrate that bending has a minor effect on the antenna performance within the target frequency range. The measured results show a good agreement with simulations.

A number of properties of natural rubber-based composites containing fillers of sol–gel glasses and ceramics from the CaO–SiO2–P2O5 system were investigated and compared. Its goals were to evaluate and select more suitable usages in flexible electronics, in particular as substrates and insulating layers in antennas for wireless communications. The fillers were characterized by XRD, SEM, adsorption–texture characteristics and particle size distribution. The composites were characterized by their vulcanization, physico-mechanical, dielectric and dynamic characteristics, as well as their volume resistivity and coefficient of thermal conductivity. The studies revealed that the specific features of the fillers, above all their texture characteristics (specific surface area, presence and amount of micro- and mesopores) have a significant impact upon all studied properties of the composites. The complex evaluation has demonstrated that the composites containing glass–ceramic fillers, especially at 20–50 phr, are more suitable as substrates and insulating layers in flexible antennas for wireless communications.

The work presents studies on the complex permittivity and permeability of composites based on acrylonitrile butadiene rubber containing combinations of conductive fillers which include carbon black and nickel powder. The properties of those composites, containing each of the fillers at the same amount were compared. The permittivity and permeability values of the composites are influenced remarkably by their morphology and structure as well as by the morphological and structural specifics of both fillers. As electron scanning microscopy studies confirm, those parameters are predetermined by the nature of the composites studied—particle size, particles arrangement in the matrix and their tendency to clustering. Last but not least matrix-filler interface phenomena also impact the characteristics in question. The possibilities for applications of the composites in antennae have been studied, in particular, as substrates and insulating layers in flexible antennae for body centric communications (BCCs). The research results allow the conclusion that these materials can find such applications indeed. Composites of higher conductivity can be used where surface waves are generated to provide on-body communications, while composites of lower conductivity may be used for antennae that will be on the body of a person and will transmit to and receive from other antennas that are not on the body of the same person (off-body communications). It is clear that one can engineer the properties of antennae substrates at microwave frequencies by adjusting the filler content and the type of filler and thus control and tailor the antenna performance specific for a particular application.

A compact wearable flexible antenna, designed for optimal on-body performance in the 2.45 GHz Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) band, is proposed. Three different human body models (numerical three-layer and homogeneous tissue-equivalent model, and fabricated homogeneous tissue-equivalent phantom) are used to analyze the on-body performance of the antenna and specific absorption rate (SAR). The proposed antenna achieves more than 15.7% on-body radiation efficiency in the whole ISM frequency band and the peak 1 g average SAR less than 0.18 W/kg when it is placed directly over the skin of body model. The measured results are presented to demonstrate the validity of the proposed antenna. Furthermore, the proposed antenna offer advantages of being low profile, cheap and easy to fabricate. Low SAR values and high on-body antenna efficiency, making such an antenna a suited candidate for incorporation into various wearable devices for body-centric communications.

In this paper, we present design and simulation of the compact planar dipole antenna on fully flexible nitrile butadiene rubber polymer composite for body area network applications. A three-layer human tissue model is used to numerically analyse the performance of the antenna, including the human body effect. The proposed antenna achieves stable on-body performance: |S11| varies from −19.45 dB (in free space) at 2.46 GHz resonant frequency to −20.62 dB (on the skin) at 2.44 GHz resonant frequency. Additionally, the specific absorption rate (SAR) of the proposed antenna is evaluated. It was found that the maximum 1 g average SAR value is only 0.20 W/kg for an input power of 100 mW at a distance 2 mm away from tissue model. Simulated and measured results are presented to demonstrate the validity of the proposed antenna. Furthermore, the proposed antenna offer advantages of being compact, of low profile, cheap and easy to fabricate.

This paper gives a study and comparison of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) induced in a homogeneous phantom using wearable textile antennas with and without body-antenna isolation. A planar monopole antenna intended to operate in industrial, scientific and medical 2.45 GHz band is taken as an example for the investigation. The 1- and 10-g peak SAR and SAR distributions of wearable antennas on the phantom in different observation planes are presented to study human safety.

A lifetime measurement of the 19/2 state in Pb has been performed using the Recoil Distance Doppler-Shift (RDDS) method. The nuclei of interest were produced in multi-nucleon transfer reactions induced by a Pb beam impinging on a Mo enriched target. The beam-like nuclei were detected and identified in terms of their atomic mass number in the VAMOS++ spectrometer while the prompt γ rays were detected by the AGATA tracking array. The measured large reduced transition probability B(E3,19/2→13/2)=40(8) W.u. is the first indication of the octupole phonon at high spin in Pb. An analysis in terms of a particle-octupole-vibration coupling model indicates that the measured B(E3) value in Pb is compatible with the contributions from single-phonon and single particle E3 as well as E3 strength arising from the double-octupole-phonon 6 state, all adding coherently. A crucial aspect of the coupling model, namely the strong mixing between single-hole and the phonon-hole states, is confirmed in a realistic shell-model calculation.

In this paper, we propose and experimentally realize a low-profile, lightweight, flexible, fully textile, fractal-based monopole antenna integrated with a reflector for enhancing antenna performance and specific absorption rate (SAR) reduction in the human body. The proposed antenna shows a simulated bandwidth of 130 MHz (from 2.37 to 2.50 GHz) in the free space (FS) and 128 MHz (from 2.36 to 2.49 GHz) when it is mounted directly on a flat homogeneous phantom, which cover the targeted Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band. High radiation efficiency (greater than 74 % in the FS and greater than 70% on a phantom in the ISM band), is combined with a low maximum 10 g averaged SAR of 0.0971 W/kg at net input power 0.1 W, so the proposed antenna can be a good candidate for use in the wearable devices.

The technique for measuring the interaction of light with matter is referred to as spectroscopy. It is arguably the most powerful tool available to scientists to study the molecular world around them. Spectroscopy techniques are used universally in science at the intersection of the disciplines of chemistry, biology, engineering and physics. The universal aspect of all spectroscopic techniques is that they rely on the interactions between electrons and photons. The absorption of a photon’s energy by an electron, and the emission of photons by electrons as a molecule relaxes, allow us to determine important information about the electronic structure of a molecule. By using the molecular optical spectra, we can obtain information about the molecule types and their structures. We offer a new elective course entitled "Fundamentals of Optical Spectroscopy" in order to acquaint students with the principles, methods and instruments used in UV/ Vis spectroscopy. The course is proposed for students of pharmacy, medicine and dental medicine at Medical University Sofia and is led by lecturers from the Department of Medical Physics and Biophysics. The course has a theoretical and a practical part. In the first part of the course, students are introduced to the theory of molecular spectroscopy. The experimental part allows them, with the help of the lecturer, to consolidate and apply the acquired knowledge in practice. For the experimental part of the course the existing laboratories and equipment of the department are used.

The study presents the microwave properties of natural rubber based composites in the 1–12 GHz frequency range as determined by the conductive carbon black/magnetite hybrid fillers obtained by impregnation at different ratios between carbon and magnetite phase. It has been established that, the changes in the investigated properties exhibit a resonance character in the 3–9 GHz range and are caused by alternations both of frequency and the ratio between the hybrid phases. The real and imaginary parts of permittivity and permeability, dielectric and magnetic loss angle tangent and conductivity have been also determined. The composite comprising a hybrid filler whose carbon:magnetite phase ratio is 90:10 has turned to be the most successful. The good microwave characteristics of the composite are related to the dielectric and magnetic losses, as well as to the achieved optimal permittivity of the composite at the given ratio of the carbon and magnetite phase. The percent content of the conductive filler has a significant impact upon EMI SE of the composites. The introduction of Fe3O4 into the hybrid filler has a crucial role for decreasing the reflection by the composites surface.

The paper presents the synthesis and characterization of carbon black/silicone dioxide hybrid fillers obtained by an impregnation technology. The electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness of the composites filled with carbon black/silicone dioxide hybrid fillers was measured in wide frequency range of 1 - 12 GHz. The dc and ac electrical conductivity of composites also have been investigated. The relationship between electrical (dc and ac) conductivity and shielding effectiveness was analyzed. A positive correlation was found between the absorptive shielding effectiveness and ac conductivity for composites comprising conductive carbon black/silica filler, when the filler loading is above the percolation threshold.

The nucleus 100Ru appears to be a good candidate for the E(5) critical point symmetry which describes the U(5)-SO(6) shape phase transition. To investigate this point with respect to the electromagnetic transition strengths, lifetime measurements of its yrast states have been performed using the recoil distance Doppler shift technique as well as the Doppler shift attenuation method. As a result, the lifetimes of the yrast 2+, 4+, and 8+ states were determined. In this paper, we describe a technique for reducing the specific absorption rate (SAR) and human effects on antenna performance, based on combined use of rubber conductive composite loaded with carbon-silica hybrid filler used like a single director and a resonant half wave dipole. The finite-difference time-domain method was used to evaluate SAR and antenna performance for different antenna-composite configurations and distances. Bandwidth, gain, and radiation efficiency for different antenna-composite configurations were compared. It was found that the presence of a conductive composite loaded with carbon-silica hybrid filler can effectively reduce maximum SAR value (up to 70%) in a human head model, increasing the radiation efficiency (up to 67%) and the bandwidth (up to 110%) of the antenna.

International audience; The multi-nucleon transfer reaction mechanism was used to produce and study nuclei in the vicinity of 208Pb. This mass region is a test case for the nuclear shell model. The mass identification of the fragments was performed with the large acceptance magnetic spectrometer VAMOS++ coupled to the AGATA γ-tracking array. This experiment aimed to determine both lifetimes and gyromagnetic ratios of excited states with the Cologne plunger device. The analysis indicates promising results with the possibility to determine several new lifetimes in this region.

A new microwave exposure system for biological experiments with well-defined exposure conditions and improved control of the exposure parameters consisting of variable frequency power source, coaxial to waveguide transition, matching network and single-mode resonant cavity with movable shorting plunger was fabricated and characterized. The introduction of a biological sample into a resonant cavity has a large impact on its field configuration and port impedance. As such, the properties, geometry and position of the biological sample become a part of the electrical properties of the microwave circuit. With that change, the electrical properties of the resonant cavity, such as impedance, quality factor and resonant frequency, also change. In this study, an appropriate coupling system with effective power transfer and an algorithm to tuning and coupling of resonant cavity in resonance before and after the introduction of biological sample have been proposed. This procedure will lead to a known dose distribution within the biological sample and allow a better comparison with other studies. Coupling of the electromagnetic energy into a resonant cavity was experimentally investigated. Graphical representation of cavity impedance in case of undercoupled, critically coupled and overcoupled cavity has been presented. Critical coupling of an empty resonant cavity has been accomplished at voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) 1.01, at resonance frequencies 900 and 947.5 MHz. Critical coupling with the introduction of a biological sample has been accomplished at VSWR ≤ 1.07 for frequency bandwidth 1 MHz and VSWR ≤ 1.5 for frequency bandwidth up to 5 MHz with central frequency 947.5 MHz.

Hybrid fillers have been prepared by impregnation of conductive carbon black with different amounts of silicasol, equivalent to 3 % and 7 % silica, respectively. The fillers have been characterized and their effect upon the microwave properties of natural rubber based composites has been also investigated. The results obtained show that, the silica (dielectric) phase is distributed both over the surface and inside the carbon black aggregates (conductive phase). Thus, the interaction between the particles of the conductive filler (building of conductive pathways) is restricted. It has been established that the microwave properties studied are dependent on the ratio between the filler’s phases. The composites filled with the hybrid filler comprising the highest amount of silica possess the best total shielding effectiveness and absorptive shielding effectiveness. In all cases absorption is the mechanism prevailing in effectiveness. Thus, the fillers obtained allow an easy control and tailoring of the elastomer based electromagnetic interference shielding materials. The investigations carried out reveal the good potential of the composites studied for finding applications as antennas, automobiles, sensors and military-related applications.

Medium-spin excited levels in 90Rb, populated in the fission of 235U induced by neutrons, have been observed for the first time. γ radiation from fission has been measured by using the EXILL array of Ge detectors at the cold-neutron-beam facility PF1B of the Institut Laue–Langevin, Grenoble.

The purpose of this work was to investigate the impact of user’s positions in close space over the variations of SAR distribution in human head induced from mobile phone under the worst case conditions. The “worst case” considered in this paper refers to conditions that include (1) a half-wavelength dipole antenna, placed near the model of human head—SAM phantom; (2) a vertically oriented dipole antenna, parallel to the side walls of closed space for maximum reflection; (3) metallic closed space acts as a resonant cavity; and (4) 360 randomly selected observation points. We also used a free space model for comparative purposes. The maximum 1- and 10-g average SAR and average SAR in whole-exposed object probability density function curves have been derived to illustrate the percentage of SAR values that have been induced inside SAM for different locations of user in the closed space. The obtained results show that in more than 86.7% of all investigated user’s positions in the metallic closed space, the induced maximum 1-g average SAR in user’s head is in the boundaries of ±10% of maximum 1-g average SAR, when the user use mobile phone in free space. This relationship keep still at maximum 10-g average SAR, where in 85.9% from all investigated user’s positions, SAR values are in boundaries of ±10% of maximum 10-g average SAR in free space. The results showed that closed space causes more significant changes on average SAR in whole-exposed object than maximal SAR values. When we estimated the average SAR in whole-exposed SAM in 85% from all investigated user’s position in closed space, the induced SAR is higher than SAR values in free space model. It can be noted that the highest obtained SAR values in closed space were with 8.5% (for 1 g), 6.7% (for 10-g average SAR), and 15.1% (for average SAR in whole SAM) higher than these of the free space.

Current evolution of wireless personal communications has necessitated a comprehensive understanding of electromagnetic interactions between handset antennas and nearby human body. In this work the handset–human body interactions were evaluated in various configurations (with and without user’s hand; with and without user’s head, and combinations of them) in order to obtain statistical averages of the overall performance for system link evaluations. The measurements were performed using the random-field measurement (RFM) method, and thus the acquisition of large amounts of data about human–mobile phone interactions in typical operating environment with measured the received RF signal strength (RXLEV), and the output power level (TXLEV) on mobile station. The RXLEV and the TXLEV was measured over the air interface in the networks on two Bulgarian GSM mobile operators (Mtel and Vivatel). Both uplink and downlink measurements were performed in urban area in three cities. Each measurements were carried out in a building included both line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight propagation of the electromagnetic waves between mobile station and base station. The results showed that the user’s hand and head induces more significant changes on the received RF signal strength in case when broadcast control channel (BCCH) levels are up to −60 dBm. Also the alterations of receiving RF signal strength and output power level of the MS are influence stronger from the larger size of the hand and head of user. The influence from presence of the head and hand of the subscriber in talk position over the alteration of the receiving RF signal strength is in boundaries from 14.21 dBm to 19.1 dBm (man) and from 8.5 dBm to 12.05 dBm (woman). The presence of the user’s hand and head increased the output power level of mobile station with 12 dBm to 14 dBm (man) and with 10 dBm to 12 dBm (woman) compare to output power level without user’s hand and head.

The preliminary results from the RISING Stopped Beam Isomer Campaign are presented, with specific focus on results of the initial experiment to investigate isomeric decays along the N=Z line around A similar to 80-90 following the projectile fragmentation of a Ag-107 primary beam at an energy of 750 MeV per nucleon. A description of the technical aspects behind the design of the RISING array is presented, together with evidence for previously unreported isomeric decays in Tc-87,Tc-88 and the N=Z nuclei Nb-82(41) and Tc-86(43).

Medium spin excited levels in $^{88}\mathrm{Br}$ populated in fission of $^{235}\mathrm{U}$ induced by neutrons have been observed for the first time. The measurement of $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ radiation following fission has been performed using the EXILL array of Ge detectors at the cold-neutron beam facility PF1B of the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), Grenoble. The ground state of $^{88}\mathrm{Br}$ is proposed to be ${1}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, changing the adopted $({2}^{\ensuremath{-}})$ value. The low-energy, newly observed levels are members of the $\ensuremath{\pi}{p}_{3/2}\ensuremath{\nu}{({d}_{5/2})}^{3}$ and $\ensuremath{\pi}{f}_{5/2}^{\ensuremath{-}1}\ensuremath{\nu}{({d}_{5/2})}^{3}$ multiplets. A triplet of yrast levels observed at around 2 MeV is interpreted as being due to coupling of the ${g}_{9/2}$ proton to the $({d}_{5/2}{)}^{3}$, seniority 3 multiplet, supporting the presence of collective effects in $^{88}\mathrm{Br}$. The position of the ${g}_{9/2}$ proton intruder in the $^{78}\mathrm{Ni}$ core is determined at 5.7 MeV above the ${f}_{5/2}$ proton level. Shell-model calculations predict the same proton-neutron excitations proposed in $^{88}\mathrm{Br}$.

A precise measurement of the g factor of the first-excited state in the self-conjugate (N=Z) nucleus (24)Mg is performed by a new time-differential recoil-in-vacuum method based on the hyperfine field of hydrogenlike ions. Theory predicts that the g factors of such states, in which protons and neutrons occupy the same orbits, should depart from 0.5 by a few percent due to configuration mixing and meson-exchange effects. The experimental result, g=0.538±0.013, is in excellent agreement with recent shell-model calculations and shows a departure from 0.5 by almost 3 standard deviations, thus achieving, for the first time, the precision and accuracy needed to test theory. Proof of the new method opens the way for wide applications including measurements of the magnetism of excited states of exotic nuclei produced as radioactive beams.

The temperature dependence of the molar heat capacities of the tellurites CoTeO3, MnTeO3 and MnTe6O13 are determined. By statistical manipulation of the values obtained, the parameters in the equations for the corresponding compounds showing this dependence are determined using the least-squares method. These equations and the standard molar entropies are used to determine the thermodynamic functions for T'=298.15 K.

The aim of the research is to obtain conductive elastomer based composites with different degree of filling and specific properties that are applicable for manufacturing of small flexible wearable antennas. The mechanical, electrical and magnetic properties of the composites based on butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber and conductive carbon black have been determined and the possibilities for their use have been analyzed. It has been found that regarding the requirements for elastomer composites application as substrates in such kind of antennas for the 2.4–2.5 GHz frequency range (in respect to the tensile strength, elasticity, volume resistivity, real part of permittivity and permeability, tangent of dielectric and magnetic losses), the most suitable composites are those containing conductive carbon black at 5–10 phr. The prepared composites have been used as monolayered or multilayered substrates for manufacturing prototypes of small flexible wearable antennas for medical, sport and military applications for the 2.4–2.5 GHz frequency range, which demonstrate reliable performance and meet the requirements of the Federal Communication Commission.

Excited states in $^{160}\mathrm{Er}$ and $^{156}\mathrm{Dy}$ were populated via ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{+}/\mathrm{EC}$ decay and were studied via conversion electrons and $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy at the Tandem Accelerator in the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Sud in Catania, Italy. Conversion electrons were detected by a mini-orange spectrometer with a transmission energy window that ranged from 500 to 1000 keV for $^{160}\mathrm{Er}$ and from 350 keV to 750 keV for $^{156}\mathrm{Dy}$. The $E0$ decays of the first excited state at 893 keV in $^{160}\mathrm{Er}$ and at 676 keV in $^{156}\mathrm{Dy}$ were observed, and $X(E0/E2)$ ratios of reduced transition probabilities were deduced. Furthermore, for both nuclei $E0$ admixtures in transitions from the lower members of the $\ensuremath{\beta}$ and $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ bands to the ground-state band were observed, and $X(E0/E2)$ values were deduced. The values of the $X(E0/E2)$ for the ${0}_{2}^{+}$ decays are compared to IBA-1 calculations that use the full Hamiltonian in multipole expansion. Properties related to the nuclear shape seem to be sensitive to higher-order terms of the expansion.

Excited states in ${}^{129}$I were populated with the ${}^{124}$Sn(${}^{7}$Li,$2n$) reaction at 23 MeV. In-beam measurements of $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray coincidences were performed with an array of eight HPGe detectors and five LaBr${}_{3}$(Ce) scintillation detectors. Based on the $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ coincidence data, a positive parity band structure built on the $7/{2}^{+}$ ground state was established and the $\ensuremath{\pi}{g}_{7/2}$ configuration at oblate deformation was assigned to it. The results are compared to interacting Boson-Fermion model (IBFM) and total Routhian surface (TRS) calculations.
