BackgroundHyponatremia is a common electrolyte disturbance and known adverse drug reaction of diuretics. Women tend to be more susceptible for diuretic associated hyponatremia. The aim of this study was to find more evidence whether women have a higher risk of diuretic associated hyponatremia than men measured at hospital admission for specific diuretic groups and whether there is a sex difference in risk of severity of hyponatremia.MethodsAll patients using a diuretic and admitted for any reason to Tergooi MC and Haga Teaching hospital in the Netherlands between the 1st of January 2017 and the 31st of December 2021, with recorded sodium levels at admission were included in this study.
