Limited information is available on human exposure to Bartonella infection, i.e., Bartonella henselae (causative agent of cat scratch disease) and Bartonella quintana (causative agent of trench fever) in West Malaysia. This study reports a review of serological findings obtained from patients attending to a teaching hospital in Klang Valley, Malaysia. An indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) was used to determine IgG and IgM antibody titers against B. henselae and B. quintana. In a pilot study conducted between 2013-2015, IgG antibodies against Bartonella spp. (either B. quintana and B. henselae) were detected in 14 (36.8%) of 38 patients who were clinically suspected of rickettsial infections, while IgM antibody was detected in 4 (10.5%) patients. This has prompted us to investigate the serologic responses of patients who were clinically suspected of other febrile causes besides rickettsial infection. Of the 59 serum samples analysed in a follow-up investigation, Bartonella IgG antibodies were detected from 7 (11.9%) patients, of which 5 (27.8%) and 2 (18.2%) patients were clinically suspected of rickettsial infection (n=18) and dengue (n=11), respectively. None of the sera obtained from the leptospirosis (n=10), legionellosis (n=10) and mycoplasma infection (n=10) groups were seropositive to Bartonella spp. The review of Bartonella serological findings in this study highlights that Bartonella infection is not uncommon and should be considered as one of the causes for febrile illness in Malaysia.

Written information on the surface of cultural relics can record important historical events. Due to the influence of natural and human factors, the surface of cultural relics fades and the words are difficult to identify. Take advantage of the hyperspectral data image and spectral unity and wide spectral range, a cultural relics surface handwriting enhancement method based on manifold learning and mixed pixel decomposition was proposed. First, the minimum noise fraction (MNF) transformation was carried out on the hyperspectral image, and then the top 10 bands were selected for inverse MNF transformation to reduce noise of the hyperspectral image. Then, the reconstructed image was dimensionally reduced by locally linear embedding (LLE) to obtain a gray image with the maximum amount of information. At the same time, the spectral features of the handwriting and background area in the reconstructed image were analysed. The automatic target generation process (ATGP) was adopted for endmember extraction on the reconstructed image to identify the endmember of handwriting. The abundance map of handwriting area was obtained by the fully constrained least squares (FCLS). Finally, the gray image and the abundance map of the handwriting region were weighted together to obtain the handwriting enhanced image. The true color image was synthesized from the reconstructed image, Then the true color image and the handwriting enhancement image were fused to obtain the handwritting fusion image. The hyperspectral image of a faded text in Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province, China, was used as an example for verification, and the results showed that the method can effectively enhance the text on the surface of the artifacts.

Mural painting is one of the carriers expressing history and culture. Due to the natural and anthropogenic factors, the salt in mural painting and environment is enriched in the surface layer with temperature change. It will induce irreversible diseases such as crispy alkali, which is not conducive to the survival of mural painting in the present. An efficient and non-destructive method to detect salt in murals is of great importance. Therefore, we proposed a method to predict the soluble salt content of mural paintings based on hyperspectral techniques. First, simulated samples with different salt concentrations were measured by a special spectroradiometer to acquire their spectra. Next, breakpoint correction and average smoothing preprocessing are performed and the data set is divided. Then, the spectra were enhanced by continuum removal (CR) and the logarithm of reciprocal (LR). The salt concentration was correlated with the spectra to extract 10 characteristic bands. Finally, the salt content prediction model was established by simple linear regression (SLR) and multiple linear regression (MLR). The accuracy of the model was evaluated with the coefficient of determination R2, root mean square error RMSE, and relative percent deviation RPD. The experimental results show that the best inversion fit is based on the combination of the CR-MLR model at the strong correlation bands of 420nm, 584nm, and 2379nm (Calibration Set R2 = 0.846, RMSE = 0.138, and RPD = 3.240). This paper provides a new technical means for the non-destructive detection of salt content in murals.

The self-assembly reaction of the bis-Schiff base N,N'-bis(4-Bromosalicylidene)-1,3-pentanediamine (H2L) with nickel chloride and sodium azide in methanol afforded a new phenolate and end-on azide bridged trinuclear nickel complex [Ni3L2(μ1,1-N3)2(CH3OH)2]2CH3OH (1). The reaction of H2L with copper acetate produced a new phenolate and acetate bridged trinuclear copper complex [Cu3L2(CH3COO)2] (2). The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The crystal structures of the complexes have been determined by X-ray crystallography. In complex 1, the Ni atoms are in octahedral coordination, while in complex 2, the Cu atoms are in square pyramidal and octahedral coordination. The Schiff base ligand coordinates to the metal atoms through the two phenolate O and two imine N atoms. The antimicrobial activities of the complexes were assayed and evaluated.

An anionic porous material can serve as both a host and an antenna for protecting and sensitizing extra-framework light-emitting Eu3+/Tb3+ ions. The Tb3+ uptake and release is a reversible process and the cationic Tb3+ can be gradually released.

By analyzing 4.48 × 108 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, we observe the decays χ cJ → nK S 0 Λ ¯ $$ {nK}_S^0\overline{\Lambda} $$ + c.c. (J = 0, 1, 2) for the first time, via the radiative transition ψ(3686) → γχ cJ . The branching fractions are determined to be (6.65 ± 0.26stat ± 0.41syst) × 10 −4, (1.66 ± 0.12stat ± 0.12syst) × 10 −4, and (3.58 ± 0.16stat ± 0.23syst) × 10 −4 for J = 0, 1, and 2, respectively.

Previous reports have described close relationships between sarcopenia and either visual impairment or depression, but there have been few analyses investigating the association between sarcopenia and the coexistence of both visual impairment and depression. Herein, we sought to explore the associations between sarcopenia and comorbid depressive symptoms and visual impairment among older females. A cross-sectional analysis of females between the ages of 50 and 95 (n = 2454) from the West China Health and Aging Trend (WCHAT) study was conducted. Patient muscle mass was assessed via a bioimpedance-based approach using an InBody 770 device, while muscle strength was estimated based on handgrip strength as quantified with a digital grip strength dynamometer. Depressive systems were evaluated with the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15), and a questionnaire was employed to evaluate patient visual functionality. Associations between sarcopenia and comorbid depressive status and visual impairment were explored through logistic regression analyses. Comorbid depressive symptoms and visual impairment were observed in 6.2% of the women included in this study, while 18.9% suffered from sarcopenia. Following adjustment for covariates, relative to normal controls, study subjects with only depression (OR=1.45, 95%CI=1.04-2.02), only visual impairment (OR=1.69, 95%CI=1.27-2.26), or comorbid depression and visual impairment (OR=1.76, 95% CI=1.16-2.67) exhibited a higher risk of sarcopenia. These results suggest that comorbid depression and visual impairment are linked to the prevalence of sarcopenia in older Chinese women. As such, further efforts to screen older women for these two comorbid conditions may thus be necessary.

The incidence and mortality of HCC in China account for approximately 50% of all cases worldwide. Low early diagnosis rate and high postoperative recurrence rate are two major causes for poor 5-year survival rate of HCC patients in China. At present, multiple problems such as low performance and compliance of screening technology and lack of effective markers for predicting postoperative recurrence, remain to be resolved. Due to the simplicity and accuracy, new molecular markers, such as liquid biopsy, are expected to serve as supplementary tools to traditional screening and early warning approaches, thereby realizing early detection and accurate treatment of HCC. In this article, research progress upon the clinical application of liquid biopsy in early screening and prediction of postoperative recurrence of HCC was reviewed, and prospects the future research.中国肝细胞癌（HCC）发病及死亡人数约占全球50%。HCC早期诊断率低及术后复发率高是我国HCC患者5年生存率欠佳的两大原因。当前存在筛查技术性能及依从性较低、缺乏有效预测术后复发标志物等问题。液体活检等新型分子标志物因其简便、精准等特点，有望成为传统筛查预警方法的有益补充，实现HCC的早期发现及精准治疗。现就液体活检在HCC早筛及治疗后复发预测中的临床转化应用进行论述，并对未来研究进行展望。.

In 2016, the World Health Organization set an ambitious goal of reducing viral hepatitis-related deaths by 65% by 2030. The key to this goal is to reduce viral hepatitis-related HCC deaths. Liver cancer is the fourth most common malignant tumor and the second leading cause of cancer death in China. The onset of HCC is insidious, and most patients are already in the middle and late stage when diagnosed. Despite the great progress on management of HCC, the therapeutic effect and prognosis of HCC are still unsatisfactory. Therefore, multi-dimensional and comprehensive analysis of the mechanism of liver cancer, improving the early screening, diagnosis and treatment rate of liver cancer are the key points of reducing the harm of liver cancer in China. In recent years, multi-omics studies have been widely applied in the field of liver cancer, providing a basis for the pathogenesis of liver cancer, early detection and diagnosis, development of individual treatment strategies and prognosis assessment. We investigated the secular trends of the incidence and hospitalization cost of hip fracture in Tangshan, China. The incidence of hip fracture and the hospitalization cost were both increasing during the observation period. The present study aimed to determine sex-, age-, and fracture type-specific incidence and annual changes in hip fractures in Tangshan, China, between 2007 and 2018. We analyzed annual hip fracture incidence using urban hospital data during 2007–2018 and calculated incidence rate/100,000 person years in each age group and sex. We assessed annual changes in incidence among people aged >60 years using linear-by-linear association tests and evaluated hospitalization costs with the Kruskal–Wallis test. During the study period, we observed an increasing proportion of hip fractures in people >60 years old from 14.2 to 22.79%. Crude hip fracture incidence increased markedly from 140.87 to 306.56/100,000 in women (p 60 years. Type-specific analysis indicated significantly increased trends in incidence of cervical and trochanteric fractures among women and cervical fracture among men (p < 0.01). In people aged 36–60 years, the trend of hip fracture increased significantly in both sexes. The total and cervical-to-trochanteric ratio in men increased, with significant upward trends (p < 0.01). The proportion of cervical fracture was higher than that for trochanteric fracture in women, with stable levels from 2007 to 2018. Hospitalization costs for cervical and trochanteric fractures increased by 51.91% and 53.20%, respectively, during 2011–2018. Tangshan will have an increasing burden on health care resources attributable to a considerable rise in hip fracture incidence and the older population. Further investigation of risk factors and subsequent implementation of effective measures to prevent hip fracture are needed.

To investigate the association between pre-admission waiting time and postoperative complications, length of stay (LOS), and costs during hospitalization.This was a single-center, observational study. The subjects of this study were elderly hip fracture patients who were admitted to the Department of Orthopedics, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, from December 2010 to June 14, 2017, and that underwent internal fixation or joint replacement surgery. The pre-admission waiting time was treated as a categorical variable according to median and first quartile values. Outcomes included postoperative complications (pneumonia and other complications [urinary tract infection, heart failure, non-A-grade healing]), LOS, and costs during hospitalization. LOS and costs during hospitalization were converted into binary outcomes based upon median values. Binary logistic regression analyses were used to analyze correlations between pre-admission waiting time and patient outcomes.A total of 889 patients 60 years of age and older were enrolled in this study, of whom 65.47% were females and 34.53% were males. The proportion of patients with pre-admission waiting times less than 8 h, 8 - 24 h, and ≥ 24 h were 24.3%, 17.32%, and 58.38%, respectively. Postoperative pneumonia and other complications affected 12.04% and 6.30% of patients, respectively. Relative to patients with the pre-admission waiting times of less than 8 h, those with longer pre-admission waiting times exhibited a higher risk of postoperative pneumonia (8 - 24 h: OR = 2.72,95% CI: 1.29-5.74, p = 0.009; ≥ 24 h: OR = 2.76,95% CI: 1.48-5.14, p = 0.001). Patients with the pre-admission waiting time ≥ 24 h also exhibited a higher risk of the other complications (OR = 2.55, 95% CI: 1.53-4.26, p0.001), a longer LOS (OR = 1.43, 95% CI:1.02-2.01, p = 0.036), and higher costs during hospitalization (OR = 1.51, 95% CI:1.05 - 2.17, p = 0.026) relative to patients with a waiting time less than 8 hours.Pre-admission waiting time was associated with postoperative complications, LOS, and hospitalization costs among older Chinese patients undergoing surgery to treat hip fractures.

OBJECTIVE: To conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses of Tripterygium hypoglaucum in Yinning Tablets, a compound preparation of traditional Chinese herbal medicine. METHODS: Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) was used for qualitative analysis of Tripterygium hypoglaucum in Yining Tablets and the analytical protocols were optimized. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to quantitatively analyze the content of triptolide (the main active ingredient of Tripterygium hypoglaucum) in Yinning Tablets. RESULTS: The results of TLC analysis showed that the test sample of Yinning Tablets and the positive control samples both produced clear, well separated spots without obvious interference in the blank samples. Assessment of the influences of the thin-layer plates from different manufacturers, temperature and humidity on the test results demonstrated good durability of the test. HPLC analysis of triptolide showed a good linear relationship within the concentration range of 1-100 μg/mL (regression equation: A=22.219C-19.165, r=0.9999); the contents of triptolide in 3 batches of Yinning tablets were 0.34, 0.34, and 0.28 μg per tablet, all within the range of 0.28-0.34 μg per tablet. It was finally determined that each Yinning tablet should not contain more than 0.6 μg of triptolide. CONCLUSION: TLC and HPLC are simple, accurate, durable and specific for qualitative and quantitative analyses of Tripterygium hypoglaucum in Yinning Tablets.

Sarcopenia is a condition associated with progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and function resulting in substantial negative health outcomes and disability in older adults. It is thus important that sarcopenia-related risk factors be explored. The present study was based upon the Asian Working Group on Sarcopenia 2019 (AWGS2019) criteria to assess whether vitamin D levels are a risk factor associated with sarcopenia in various ethnic groups in western China. Cross-sectional study. Communities in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and Xinjiang provinces. We included 4236 individuals that were 50 years of age or older from the West China Health and Aging Trend (WCHAT) study. An InBody 770 instrument was used for bioimpedance-based analyses of muscle mass, while a digital grip strength dynamometer was used for handgrip strength-based measurements of muscle strength. Physical performance was assessed based upon gait speed over 4 m. Other secondary variables were additionally analyzed as potentially relevant risk factors. Sarcopenia affected an estimated 22.45% of studied individuals who were 50 years of age or older, with respective prevalence rates in the < 60, 60–64, 65–79, and ≥80 age groups of 11.78%, 19.44%, 32.65%, and 67.97%. Rates in males and females were 26.66% and 20.05%, respectively. In males, a significant difference in vitamin D levels was detected when comparing individuals with and without sarcopenia, although no such relationship was detected in females. Following adjustment for confounding variables, binary logistic regression analyses revealed that inadequate vitamin D was able to independently predict sarcopenia risk only in males (OR=1.875,95%CI: 1.109–3.169, P=0.019). Among middle-aged and older adults of multiple ethnicities in western China, we found that inadequate vitamin D was an independent predictor of sarcopenia risk specifically in males.

Archaeological and ancient DNA studies revealed that Shandong, a multi-culture center in northern coastal China, was home to ancient populations having ancestry related to both northern and southern East Asian populations. However, the limited temporal and geographical range of previous studies have been insufficient to describe the population history of this region in greater detail. Here, we report the analysis of 86 complete mitochondrial genomes from the remains of 9500 to 1800-year-old humans from 12 archaeological sites across Shandong. For samples older than 4600 years before present (BP), we found haplogroups D4, D5, B4c1, and B5b2, which are observed in present-day northern and southern East Asians. For samples younger than 4600 BP, haplogroups C (C7a1 and C7b), M9 (M9a1), and F (F1a1, F2a, and F4a1) begin to appear, indicating changes in the Shandong maternal genetic structure starting from the beginning of the Longshan cultural period. Within Shandong, the genetic exchange is possible between the coastal and inland regions after 3100 BP. We also discovered the B5b2 lineage in Shandong populations, with the oldest Bianbian individual likely related to the ancestors of some East Asians and North Asians. By reconstructing a maternal genetic structure of Shandong populations, we provide greater resolution of the population dynamics of the northern coastal East Asia over the past nine thousand years.

This study examined the relationship between cognitive performance and obesity parameters, such as body mass index (BMI), visceral fat area (VFA), waist circumference (WC), and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) in western China. A cross-sectional study. 3914 participants, aged ≥50 years, were recruited in this study. Anthropometrics measurements, life-style factors, chronic disease comorbidities, and sleep qualities were recorded for each participant. Among the anthropometrics, BMI, WC, and WHR were assessed using standard procedures, while VFA was calculated using bioelectrical impedance analysis. Cognitive performance was estimated using the Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire (SPMSQ). Finally, relationships between cognitive abilities and BMI, VFA, WC, and WHR were evaluated using univariate and multivariate regression analyses. Cognitive decline (CD) occurred at a rate of 13.29% among the 3914 participants. A strong correlation was observed between cognitive abilities and BMI of male patients aged 50–59 yrs (OR 1.116,95% CI1.002–1.242), in the adjusted model. Alternately, WHR was shown to be significantly related to CD in females aged ≥70 years (OR 0.041, 95% CI0.002–0.671). WC was shown to have a strong association with CD in males (OR 1.023,95% CI1.003–1.024). Lastly, WHR was closely connected to CD in participants with BMI < 25 kg/m2 (OR 0.022,95% CI0.002–0.209). Our findings suggest that a higher middle age BMI is associated with CD, whereas, in the elderly population, a higher WHR is related to improved cognitive performance. Further investigation is warranted to elucidate a relationship between VFA and CD.

This paper proposes a continuous time-varying feedback control based on back-stepping for automatic magazine system, in which the control gains depend on the Lyapunov function to ensure the robustness against modelling uncertainty. The Lyapunov function, which is implicit, is differentiable functions of system error variables. Integrated with backstepping control, the performance of the automation magazine system is greatly improved, while retaining the advantage of only needing to ensure the bounds of disturbances. Lyapunov analysis shows tracking errors of the system are asymptotically stable. In addition, this proposed controller is continuous and has the characteristics of simplicity and practicality, which are beneficial to practical applications. Finally, Numerical simulations are provided to verify the high performance of the controller by comparing the simulation experimental results in automation magazine system.

To determine the risk of poor health-related outcomes in older adults with cooccurring hearing impairment and cognitive impairment, and to compare the risk of hearing impairment only, cognitive impairment only, and multiple morbidities. Cross-sectional study. Community-dwelling older adults aged 60 years and older were included. The data of missing hearing and cognitive status were excluded, and 3770 older people participated in the study. The hearing function evaluation was conducted by questionnaire survey. Assessment of cognitive function was completed using the SPMSQ scale. The subjects were divided into hearing impairment and cognitive impairment group, hearing impairment only group, cognitive impairment only group and neither group. Multiple logistic regression was used to analyze the risks of hearing and cognitive impairment and health-related condition. The prevalence of hearing impairment and cognitive impairment, hearing impairment only, cognitive impairment only, and neither were 9.4%, 8.3%, 29.9% and 52.4%, respectively. Compared with the control group, the individuals with hearing impairment and cognitive impairment were associated with depression (OR=3.48, 95% CI=2.66, 4.56), anxiety (OR=2.35, 95% CI=1.92, 3.33), frailty (OR=4.30, 95% CI=2.89, 6.40), and ADL impairment (OR=2.77, 95% CI=2.03, 3.77). The studies shows that hearing impairment combined with cognitive impairment is significantly associated with anxiety, depression, frailty, and ADL impairment. Comprehensive management and intervention should be provided for older people to reduce the occurrence of adverse health consequences.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is prevalent worldwide and has a high mortality rate. Even if mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are suggested as cancer treatment, the studies of their effects on NSCLC cells contradict each other, mainly due to utilization of two-dimensional (2D) culture system. Three-dimensional (3D) culture systems resemble tissue organization in vivo. Here we comprehensively explore the inhibitory effects of MSCs on NSCLC cells in a 3D culture system. We confirmed that the inhibitory effects of 3D-cultured MSCs (3D-MSCs) on the proliferation and migration of NSCLC cells are greater than that of the 2D-cultured MSCs. 3D-MSCs overexpress IL-24, which serve as the key factor enhancing antitumor effects of MSCs. In these cells, IL-24 affects p38 MAPK and CXCR4/AKT pathways. Overall, this study provides the support for use of MSCs in tumor.
