1. Adrenal hemorrhage in newborn: how, when and why- from case report to literature review

Abstract: Abstract Background Neonatal adrenal hemorrhage is a relatively uncommon condition (0.2–0.55%). Various risk factors have been reported in addition to birth asphyxia, such as sepsis, coagulation disorders, traumatic delivery, and perinatal injuries. Adrenal hemorrhage usually affects the right adrenal gland (about 70% of cases) while it involves the bilateral adrenal gland only in 10% of cases. In most cases, the event is asymptomatic but, in others, it may be so devastating to determine death by bleeding or adrenal insufficiency. Case presentation A case of bilateral neonatal adrenal hemorrhage, with adrenal insufficiency, but with no important risk factors and favorable evolution in a male infant. Conclusions This case emphasizes the importance of keeping a non-interventional attitude, avoiding early surgery but carrying out a serial sonographic follow-up. Serial ultrasound monitoring is the most reliable approach during conservative management.

Abstract: COSMO is a ground-based instrument to measure the spectral distortions (SD) of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). In this paper, we present preliminary results of electromagnetic simulations of its reference blackbody calibrator. HFSS simulations provide a calibrator reflection coefficient of $$R\sim 10^{-6}$$ R ∼ 10 - 6 , corresponding to an emissivity $$\epsilon =1-R=0.999999$$ ϵ = 1 - R = 0.999999 . We also provide a forecast for the instrument performance by using an ILC-based simulation. We show that COSMO can extract the isotropic Comptonization parameter (modeled as $$|y|=1.77 \cdot 10^{-6}$$ | y | = 1.77 · 10 - 6 ) as $$|y|=(1.79\pm 0.19)\cdot 10^{-6}$$ | y | = ( 1.79 ± 0.19 ) · 10 - 6 , in the presence of the main Galactic foreground (thermal dust) and of CMB anisotropies, and assuming perfect atmospheric emission removal.

5. Liquefaction triggering of non-saturated sandy soils

Abstract: In saturated sandy soils liquefaction triggering is generally well-identified according to stress or strain criteria. On the contrary, the attainment of liquefaction in non-saturated sandy soils is still a cause of discussion in the scientific community. Even if the liquefaction resistance of non-saturated soils is higher than that of saturated ones, these soils may liquefy, as well. The increasing interest for cyclically mechanical behaviour of non-saturated sandy soils is due to the fact that desaturation or induced partial saturation can be used as useful mitigation techniques against soil liquefaction. Therefore, it is important to define, as accurately as possible, the attainment of liquefaction, on which depends the estimation of liquefaction resistance. The relevance of the apparent viscosity as a physically based parameter for the correct identification of the liquefaction triggering for fully saturated soils has been already demonstrated. In this paper, the viscous triggering approach has been used for non-saturated soils, processing some cyclic triaxial tests carried out on different sandy soils. The results confirm the reliability of the apparent viscosity as a liquefaction triggering parameter, showing a tight correlation with the strain liquefaction triggering criterion. Therefore, strain criterion should be preferred in non-saturated sandy soils.

Abstract: We present the design, manufacturing and performance of the horn-switch system developed for the technological demonstrator of QUBIC (the $Q$\&$U$ Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology). This system is constituted of 64 back-to-back dual-band (150\,GHz and 220\,GHz) corrugated feed-horns interspersed with mechanical switches used to select desired baselines during the instrument self-calibration. We manufactured the horns in aluminum platelets milled by photo-chemical etching and mechanically tightened with screws. The switches are based on steel blades that open and close the wave-guide between the back-to-back horns and are operated by miniaturized electromagnets. We also show the current development status of the feedhorn-switch system for the QUBIC full instrument, based on an array of 400 horn-switch assemblies., 30 pages, 28 figures. Abstract: We present the design, manufacturing and performance of the horn-switch system developed for the technological demonstrator of QUBIC (the Q&U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology). This system consists of 64 back-to-back dual-band (150 GHz and 220 GHz) corrugated feed-horns interposed with mechanical switches used to select desired baselines during the instrument self-calibration. We manufactured the horns in aluminum platelets milled by photo-chemical etching and mechanically tightened with screws. The switches are based on steel blades that open and close the waveguide between the back-to-back horns and are operated by miniaturized electromagnets. The measured electromagnetic performance of the feedhorns agrees with simulations. In particular we obtained a return loss around -20 dB up to 230 GHz and beam patterns in agreement with single-mode simulations down to -30 dB. The switches for this prototype were designed and built for the 150 GHz band. In this frequency range we find return and insertion losses consistent with expectations (< -25 dB and ∼-0.1 dB, respectively) and an isolation larger than 70 dB. In this paper we also show the current development status of the feedhorn-switch system for the QUBIC full instrument, based on an array of 400 horn-switch assemblies.

Abstract: et al., Feedhorn- and orthomode transducer- (OMT) coupled transition edge sensor (TES) bolometers have been designed and micro-fabricated to meet the optical specifications of the LiteBIRD high frequency telescope (HFT) focal plane. We discuss the design and optical characterization of two LiteBIRD HFT detector types: dual-polarization, dual-frequency-band pixels with 195/280 GHz and 235/337 GHz band centers. Results show well-matched passbands between orthogonal polarization channels and frequency centers within 3% of the design values. The optical efficiency of each frequency channel is conservatively reported to be within the range 0.64−0.72, determined from the response to a cryogenic, temperature-controlled thermal source. These values are in good agreement with expectations and either exceed or are within 10% of the values used in the LiteBIRD sensitivity forecast. Lastly, we report a measurement of loss in Nb/SiNx/Nb microstrip at 100 mK and over the frequency range 200–350 GHz, which is comparable to values previously reported in the literature., This work is supported by NASA under grant no. 80NSSC18K0132.

Abstract: Induced partial saturation (IPS) is considered to be one of the most promising technologies to tackle soil liquefaction risk. The mitigation of the liquefaction susceptibility of loose partially saturated sandy soils is linked to the high volumetric compressibility of the gas or air bubbles entrapped in the continuous water phase. 10. A testbed for modeling validation and characterization of quasi-optical elements in microwave receivers

Abstract: We describe the setup for the broadband millimeter/submillimeter characterization of the quasi-optical elements and the dielectric materials commonly used in microwave receivers operated in microwave astronomy. The setup is made of a large aperture (100 mm) Fourier transform spectrometer coupled to a transition edge superconducting detector. The system has been assembled and characterized in different configurations and operation modes for the acquisition of interferograms from various kinds of samples. After the initial test runs, the configuration is now being updated to ensure a broader range of measurements, including reflectance and scattering. We plan to first use this testbed for the characterization of the dielectric materials used in the LSPE/SWIPE experiment, devoted to the study the polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background.

Abstract: International audience; The Q & U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology (QUBIC) is a cosmology experiment that aims to measure the B-mode polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Measurements of the primordial B-mode pattern of the CMB polarization are in fact among the most exciting goals in cosmology as it would allow testing of the inflationary paradigm. Many experiments are attempting to measure the B-modes, from the ground and the stratosphere, using imaging Stokes polarimeters. The QUBIC collaboration developed an innovative concept to measure CMB polarization using bolometric interferometry. This approach mixes the high sensitivity of bolometric detectors with the accurate control of systematics due to the interferometric layout of the instrument. We present the calibration results for the Technological Demonstrator, before its commissioning in the Argentinian observing site and preparation for first light.

Abstract: Measurements of cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization may reveal the presence of a background of gravitational waves produced during cosmic inflation, providing thus a test of inflationary models. The Q&U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology (QUBIC) is an experiment designed to measure the CMB polarization. It is based on the novel concept of bolometric interferometry, which combines the sensitivity of bolometric detectors with the properties of beam synthesis and control of calibration offered by interferometers. To modulate and extract the input polarized signal of the CMB, QUBIC exploits Stokes polarimetry based on a rotating half-wave plate (HWP). In this work, we illustrate the design of the QUBIC instrument, focusing on the polarization modulation system, and we present preliminary results of beam calibrations and the performance of the HWP rotator at 300 K.

14. Design and evaluation of a deep learning-based automatic segmentation of maxillary and mandibular substructures using a 3D U-Net

Abstract: Background: Current segmentation approaches for radiation treatment planning in head and neck cancer patients (HNCP) typically consider the entire mandible as an organ at risk, whereas segmentation of the maxilla remains uncommon. Accurate risk assessment for osteoradionecrosis (ORN) or implant-based dental rehabilitation after radiation therapy may require a nuanced analysis of dose distribution in specific mandibular and maxillary segments. Manual segmentation is time-consuming and inconsistent, and there is no definition of jaw subsections. Materials and methods: The mandible and maxilla were divided into 12 substructures. The model was developed from 82 computed tomography (CT) scans of HNCP and adopts an encoder-decoder three-dimensional (3D) U-Net structure. The efficiency and accuracy of the automated method were compared against manual segmentation on an additional set of 20 independent CT scans. The evaluation metrics used were the Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), 95% Hausdorff distance (HD95), and surface DSC (sDSC). Results: Automated segmentations were performed in a median of 86 s, compared to manual segmentations, which took a median of 53.5 min. The median DSC per substructure ranged from 0.81 to 0.91, and the median HD95 ranged from 1.61 to 4.22. The number of artifacts did not affect these scores. The maxillary substructures showed lower metrics than the mandibular substructures. Conclusions: The jaw substructure segmentation demonstrated high accuracy, time efficiency, and promising results in CT scans with and without metal artifacts. This novel model could provide further investigation into dose relationships with ORN or dental implant failure in normal tissue complication prediction models.

Abstract: International audience; The Q and U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology (QUBIC) Technical Demonstrator (TD) aiming to shows the feasibility of the combination of interferometry and bolometric detection. The electronic readout system is based on an array of 128 NbSi Transition Edge Sensors cooled at 350mK readout with 128 SQUIDs at 1K controlled and amplified by an Application Specific Integrated Circuit at 40K. This readout design allows a 128:1 Time Domain Multiplexing. We report the design and the performance of the detection chain in this paper. The technological demonstrator unwent a campaign of test in the lab. Evaluation of the QUBIC bolometers and readout electronics includes the measurement of I-V curves, time constant and the Noise Equivalent Power. Abstract: In this paper, we present beam pattern tests performed on the SWIPE multi-mode bolometric detector pixel assembly. A 20-mm-aperture horn is coupled to a large detector absorber (10 mm diameter) with a TES sensor located on the side. The pixel assembly has been tested at the bolometer base temperature of 340 mK, inside a custom cryogenic test bed, looking at a Gunn oscillator (128 GHz) located in the far field. We developed a custom cryogenic neoprene absorber, in addition to the stack of standard metal meshes low-pass filters, to reduce the background on the detector at a level similar to the one expected in flight, allowing to measure the main beam of the pixel assembly. The measured FWHM is 21$$^{\circ }$$, slightly narrower than the expected one (24$$^{\circ }$$), due to vignetting produced by the filters stack.

Abstract: International audience; QUBIC (a Q and U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology) is a next generation cosmology experiment designed to detect the B-mode polarisation of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). A B-mode detection is hard evidence of Inflation in the ΛCDM model. QUBIC aims to accomplish this by combining novel technologies to achieve the sensitivity required to detect the faint B-mode signal. QUBIC uses technologies such as a rotating half-wave plate, cryogenics, interferometric horns with self-calibration switches and transition edge sensor bolometers. A Technical Demonstrator (TD) is currently being calibrated in APC in Paris before observations in Argentina in 2021. As part of the calibration campaign, the spectral response of the TD is measured to test and validate QUBIC's spectro-imaging capability. This poster gives an overview of the methods used to measure the spectral response and a comparison of the instrument data with theoretical predictions and optical simulations.

Abstract: The spectroscopic measurement of the Cosmic Microwave Background at mm and sub-mm wavelengths received significant attention recently, aimed at measuring tiny spectral distortions of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) relevant for cosmology. Several experiments, including OLIMPO (Masi et al. 2003), PRISM (Andre et al., 2014), MILLIMETRON (Smirnov and Baryshev, 2012), PIXIE (Kogut and Fixsen, 2011) are based on a Martin-Puplett Fourier-transform spectrometer. Its differential capabilities are the key to success in these difficult measurements. The polarizing beam splitter is the optical core of a Martin-Puplett interferometer. In this paper we analyze, analytically and experimentally, the systematic effects induced by a beam splitter orientation different from the canonical 45 ° . These effects are potenitally important for the delicate measurements of CMB spectral distortions. We find an analytical formula describing the effect, and verify experimentally, in the range 150–600 GHz, that our formula correctly describes the results (with a C.L. of 88 % ). We also demonstrate that the rotation of the beam splitter does not induce distortions in the measured spectra.

Abstract: The Q & U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology, QUBIC, is an innovative experiment designed to measure the polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background and in particular the signature left therein by the inflationary expansion of the Universe. The expected signal is extremely faint, thus extreme sensitivity and systematic control are necessary in order to attempt this measurement. QUBIC addresses these requirements using an innovative approach combining the sensitivity of Transition Edge Sensor cryogenic bolometers, with the deep control of systematics characteristic of interferometers. This makes QUBIC unique with respect to others classical imagers experiments devoted to the CMB polarization. In this contribution we report a description of the QUBIC instrument including recent achievements and the demonstration of the bolometric interferometry performed in lab. QUBIC will be deployed at the observation site in Alto Chorrillos, in Argentina at the end of 2019., Accepted for publication in the Journal of Low Temperature Physics

Abstract: Context. The primordial B-mode signal in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) represents the smoking gun of cosmic inflation, and measuring it is the main goal of current experimental effort. The most accessible method for measuring polarization features of the CMB radiation is a Stokes polarimeter based on the rotation of a half-wave plate (HWP). Aims. Current observational cosmology is starting to be limited by systematic effects. A Stokes polarimeter with a rotating HWP has the advantage of mitigating a long list of potential systematics by modulating the linearly polarized component of the radiation, but the rotating HWP itself may introduce new systematic effects that must be under control. This represents one of the most critical parts in the design of a B-mode experiment. It is therefore mandatory to take all the systematic effects into account that the instrumentation can induce. We here present, simulate, and analyze the spurious signal arising from the precession of a rotating HWP. Methods. We first derived an analytical formula to describe the systematic effect that is induced by the HWP precession on the propagating radiation, using the 3D generalization of the Müller formalism. We then performed several numerical simulations that show the effect induced on the Stokes parameters by this systematic. We also derived and discuss the effect on B-modes as measured by a satellite experiment. Results. We derive the analytical formula for the Stokes parameters from a Stokes polarimeter where the HWP follows a precessional motion with an angle θ0. We show the result depending on the HWP inertia tensor, spinning speed, and on θ0. The result of numerical simulations is reported as a simple time-line of the electric fields. Finally, assuming that the entire sky is observed with a satellite mission, we analyze the effect on B-mode measurements. Conclusions. The effect is not negligible at the sensitivity of current B-mode experiments, therefore this systematic needs to be carefully considered for future experiments.

Abstract: QUBIC (Q \& U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology) is an international ground-based experiment dedicated in the measurement of the polarized fluctuations of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). It is based on bolometric interferometry, an original detection technique which combine the immunity to systematic effects of an interferometer with the sensitivity of low temperature incoherent detectors. QUBIC will be deployed in Argentina, at the Alto Chorrillos mountain site near San Antonio de los Cobres, in the Salta province. The QUBIC detection chain consists in 2048 NbSi Transition Edge Sensors (TESs) cooled to 350mK.The voltage-biased TESs are read out with Time Domain Multiplexing based on Superconducting QUantum Interference Devices (SQUIDs) at 1 K and a novel SiGe Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) at 60 K allowing to reach an unprecedented multiplexing (MUX) factor equal to 128. The QUBIC experiment is currently being characterized in the lab with a reduced number of detectors before upgrading to the full instrument. Abstract: QUBIC, the Q & U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology, is a novel ground-based instrument that aims to measure the extremely faint B-mode polarisation anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background at intermediate angular scales (multipoles of = 30 − 200). Primordial B-modes are a key prediction of Inflation as they can only be produced by gravitational waves in the very early universe. To achieve this goal, QUBIC will use bolometric interferometry, a technique that combines the sensitivity of an imager with the immunity to systematic effects of an interferometer. It will directly observe the sky through an array of back-to-back entry horns whose beams will be superimposed using a cooled quasioptical beam combiner. Images of the resulting interference fringes will be formed on two focal planes, each tiled with transition-edge sensors, cooled down to 320 mK. A dichroic filter placed between the optical combiner and the focal planes will select two frequency bands (centred at 150 GHz and 220 GHz), one frequency per focal plane. Polarization modulation will be achieved using a cold stepped half-wave plate (HWP) and polariser in front of the sky-facing horns. The full QUBIC instrument is described elsewhere1,2,3,4; in this paper we will concentrate in particular on simulations of the optical combiner (an off-axis Gregorian imager) and the feedhorn array. We model the optical performance of both the QUBIC full module and a scaled-down technological demonstrator which will be used to validate the full instrument design. Optical modelling is carried out using full vector physical optics with a combination of commercial and in-house software. In the high-frequency channel we must be careful to consider the higher-order modes that can be transmitted by the horn array. The instrument window function is used as a measure of performance and we investigate the effect of, for example, alignment and manufacturing tolerances, truncation by optical components and off-axis aberrations. We also report on laboratory tests carried on the QUBIC technological demonstrator in advance of deployment to the observing site in Argentina.

Abstract: International audience; QUBIC (the Q and U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology) is a ground-based experiment which seeks to improve the current constraints on the amplitude of primordial gravitational waves. It exploits the unique technique, among Cosmic Microwave Background experiments, of bolometric interferometry, combining together the sensitivity of bolometric detectors with the control of systematic effects typical of interferometers. QUBIC will perform sky observations in polarization, in two frequency bands centered at 150 and 220 GHz, with two kilo-pixel focal plane arrays of NbSi Transition-Edge Sensors (TES) cooled down to 350 mK. A subset of the QUBIC instrument, the so called QUBIC Technological Demonstrator (TD), with a reduced number of detectors with respect to the full instrument, will be deployed and commissioned before the end of 2018. The voltage-biased TES are read out with Time Domain Multiplexing and an unprecedented multiplexing (MUX) factor equal to 128. This MUX factor is reached with two-stage multiplexing: a traditional one exploiting Superconducting QUantum Interference Devices (SQUIDs) at 1K and a novel SiGe Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) at 60 K. The former provides a MUX factor of 32, while the latter provides a further 4. Each TES array is composed of 256 detectors and read out with four modules of 32 SQUIDs and two ASICs. A custom software synchronizes and manages the readout and detector operation, while the TES are sampled at 780 Hz (100kHz/128 MUX rate). In this work we present the experimental characterization of the QUBIC TES arrays and their multiplexing readout chain, including time constant, critical temperature, and noise properties.

Abstract: QUBIC, the Q & U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology, is a novel ground-based instrument that has been designed to measure the extremely faint B-mode polarisation anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background at intermediate angular scales (multipoles of 𝑙 = 30 − 200). Primordial B-modes are a key prediction of Inflation as they can only be produced by gravitational waves in the very early universe. To achieve this goal, QUBIC will use bolometric interferometry, a technique that combines the sensitivity of an imager with the systematic error control of an interferometer. It will directly observe the sky through an array of 400 back-to-back entry horns whose signals will be superimposed using a quasi-optical beam combiner. The resulting interference fringes will be imaged at 150 and 220 GHz on two focal planes, each tiled with NbSi Transition Edge Sensors, cooled to 320 mK and read out with time-domain multiplexing. A dichroic filter placed between the optical combiner and the focal planes will select the two frequency bands. A very large receiver cryostat will cool the optical and detector stages to 40 K, 4 K, 1 K and 320 mK using two pulse tube coolers, a novel 4He sorption cooler and a double-stage 3He/4He sorption cooler. Polarisation modulation and selection will be achieved using a cold stepped half-wave plate (HWP) and polariser, respectively, in front of the sky-facing horns. A key feature of QUBIC’s ability to control systematic effects is its ‘self-calibration’ mode where fringe patterns from individual equivalent baselines can be compared. When observing, however, all the horns will be open simultaneously and we will recover a synthetic image of the sky in the I, Q and U Stokes’ parameters. The synthesised beam pattern has a central peak of approximately 0.5 degrees in width, with secondary peaks further out that are damped by the 13-degree primary beam of the horns. This is Module 1 of QUBIC which will be installed in Argentina, near the city of San Antonio de los Cobres, at the Alto Chorrillos site (4869 m a.s.l.), Salta Province. Simulations have shown that this first module could constrain the tensor-to-scalar ratio down to σ(r) = 0.01 after a two-year survey. We aim to add further modules in the future to increase the angular sensitivity and resolution of the instrument. The QUBIC project is proceeding through a sequence of steps. After an initial successful characterisation of the detection chain, a technological demonstrator is being assembled to validate the full instrument design and to test it electrically, thermally and optically. The technical demonstrator is a scaled-down version of Module 1 in terms of the number of detectors, input horns and pulse tubes and a reduction in the diameter of the combiner mirrors and filters, but is otherwise similar. The demonstrator will be upgraded to the full module in 2019. In this paper we give an overview of the QUBIC project and instrument.

Abstract: Rationale Chronic hypertension is a major risk factor for stroke and coronary heart disease. Hypertension is associated with vascular smooth muscle cell (VCMCs) dysfunction, leading to vascular wall calcification and reduced vessel compliance. However, the underlying cellular mechanisms remain unclear. We previously demonstrated that loss of the transcription factor Brn-3b/(POU4F2) results in weight gain and diabetes in mice, known risk factors for hypertension. Herein we present evidences for a direct role of Brn-3b in the maintenance of vascular integrity. Methodology Blood pressure (pressure-volume analysis or tail cuff plethysmography) was measured in wild type (WT) and Brn-3b knockout (KO) mice. Immunostaining and histological analysis were performed in the aorta of these animals. Gene expression analysis was performed using RNAseq and the expression pattern of Brn-3b was evaluated in primary VSMC cultures by immunofluorescence and qRT-PCR. Results Brn-3b KO mice (2–6 months) developed spontaneous hypertension and vascular dysfunction such as neointimal hyperplasia, increased extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition and calcification. RNAseq analysis revealed that loss of Brn-3b in the aorta increased ECM gene expression, including collagens. Immunostaining of aortic sections from WT mice showed that Brn-3b was principally expressed in the tunica media, mostly composed of VSMC. Additionally, Brn-3b protein and mRNA were detectable in human and rodent primary VSMC cultures. Conclusions Brn-3b loss in vivo is associated with vascular dysfunction and hypertension. Future studies will aim to investigate the role of Brn-3b in VSMC phenotypical changes.

Abstract: International audience; Remnant radiation from the early universe, known as the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), has been redshifted and cooled, and today has a blackbody spectrum peaking at millimetre wavelengths. The QUBIC (Q&U Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology) instrument is designed to map the very faint polaristion structure in the CMB. QUBIC is based on the novel concept of bolometric interferometry in conjunction with synthetic imaging. It will have a large array of input feedhorns, which creates a large number of interferometric baselines. The beam from each feedhorn is passed through an optical combiner, with an off-axis compensated Gregorian design, to allow the generation of the synthetic image. The optical-combiner will operate in two frequency bands (150 and 220 GHz with 25% and 18.2 % bandwidth respectively) while cryogenically cooled TES bolometers provide the sensitivity required at the image plane. The QUBIC Technical Demonstrator (TD), a proof of technology instrument that contains 64 input feed-horns, is currently being built and will be installed in the Alto Chorrillos region of Argentina. The plan is then for the full QUBIC instrument (400 feed-horns) to be deployed in Argentina and obtain cosmologically significant results. In this paper we will examine the output of the manufactered feed-horns in comparison to the nominal design. We will show the results of optical modelling that has been performed in anticipation of alignment and calibration of the TD in Paris, in particular testing the validity of real laboratory environments. We show the output of large calibrator sources (50 ° full width haf max Gaussian beams) and the importance of accurate mirror definitions when modelling large beams. Finally we describe the tolerance on errors of the position and orientation of mirrors in the optical combiner.

Abstract: International audience; QUBIC, the QU Bolometric Interferometer for Cosmology, is a novel forthcoming instrument to measure the B-mode polarization anisotropy of the Cosmic Microwave Background. The detection of the B-mode signal will be extremely challenging; QUBIC has been designed to address this with a novel approach, namely bolometric interferometry. The receiver cryostat is exceptionally large and cools complex optical and detector stages to 40 K, 4 K, 1 K and 350 mK using two pulse tube coolers, a novel 4He sorption cooler and a double-stage 3He/4He sorption cooler. We discuss the thermal and mechanical design of the cryostat, modelling and thermal analysis, and laboratory cryogenic testing.

Abstract: In this paper we describe QUBIC, an experiment that takes up the challenge posed by the detection of primordial gravitational waves with a novel approach, that combines the sensitivity of state-of-the art bolometric detectors with the systematic effects control typical of interferometers. The so-called "self-calibration" is a technique deeply rooted in the interferometric nature of the instrument and allows us to clean the measured data from instrumental effects. 31. A new digital lithological map of Italy at the 1:100 000 scale for geomechanical modelling

Abstract: Lithological maps contain information about the different lithotypes cropping out in an area. At variance with geological maps, portraying geological formations, lithological maps may differ as a function of their purpose. Here, we describe the preparation of a lithological map of Italy at the 1:100 000 scale, obtained from classification of a comprehensive digital database and aimed at describing geomechanical properties. We first obtained the full database, containing about 300 000 georeferenced polygons, from the Italian Geological Survey. We grouped polygons according to a lithological classification by expert analysis of the 5456 original unique descriptions of polygons, following compositional and geomechanical criteria. The procedure resulted in a lithological map with a legend including 19 classes, and it is linked to a database allowing ready interpretation of the classes in geomechanical properties and is amenable to further improvement. The map is mainly intended for statistical and physically based modelling of slope stability assessment and geomorphological and geohydrological modelling. Other possible applications include geoenvironmental studies, evaluation of river chemical composition, and estimation of raw material resources. 32. Changement de formulation des solutions d’acides aminés (AA) administrées avec la radiothérapie interne vectorisée (RIV) par LUTATHERA® : étude de la tolérance

Abstract: Objectif La RIV des tumeurs endocrines necessite une perfusion d’AA a visee nephroprotectrice, concomitante de l’injection de Lutathera® : solution de Lysine2,5 %-Arginine2,5 %, ou preparation commerciale. Nous rapportons notre experience de la tolerance de 2 types de solutions d’AA, Lysine-Arginine et Primene®. Patients et methodes Etude de cohorte retrospective des patients traites par LUTATHERA® avec l’une ou l’autre des solutions d’AA. Tous ont recu une premedication antiemetique par methylprednisolone, ondansetron, aprepitant et clorazepate dipotassique. Les EI imputables aux AA ont ete colliges durant l’hospitalisation, puis analyses par une methode Bayesienne. Resultats De mai 2015 a octobre 2017, 63 % des injections de LUTATHERA (84/133) encadrees par une perfusion de PRIMENE® se sont compliquees d’EI, essentiellement nausees et vomissements. Depuis octobre 2017, 10 % des injections (4/40) encadrees par Lysine-Arginine se sont compliquees d’EI. Dix patients (33 cycles) ont recu au moins une fois la preparation de PRIMENE® au cours de leur RIV et au moins une fois celle de Lysine-Arginine. Dix des 18 cycles sous PRIMENE® se sont compliques d’EI (6 digestifs, 4 cephalees). Cinq de ces cycles ont ete emailles d’EI graves (grade 3–4, OMS), tous digestifs. Aucun EI n’a ete rapporte dans le bras Lysine-Arginine (15 cycles). La probabilite estimee d’EI pour les cycles avec PRIMENE® est de 55,6 % (IC 95 %[32,1 % ; 77,3 %]) et de 26,8 % (IC 95 %[10,2 % ; 49,7 %]) pour les EIG. Elle est nulle pour les cycles encadres par la solution Lysine-Arginine. Discussion La preparation Lysine-Arginine a considerablement ameliore la tolerance immediate de la RIV par LUTATHERA et permis de reduire la premedication antiemetique a l’ondansetron seul.

Researchers in medicine, healthcare economics, and health policy have discovered the value of this methodology in determining treatment preferences, resource allocation, and willingness to pay. Objectives: To describe the conjoint analysis methodology and explore value-added applications in nursing research. Methods: Conjoint analysis methodology is described, using examples from the healthcare and business literature, and personal experience with the method. Implications: Nurses are called upon to increase interdisciplinary research, provide an evidence base for nursing practice, create patient-centered treatments, and revise nursing education. Other disciplines have met challenges like these using conjoint analysis and discrete choice modeling.

Abstract: Background Limited data exist regarding the safety and efficacy of sirolimus in combination with a calcineurin inhibitor in heart transplant recipients. Methods From January 2001 to June 2002, 31 de novo heart transplant recipients (treatment group) received a combination of sirolimus, tacrolimus, low-dose rabbit antithymocyte globulin, and glucocorticoids. Outcomes, such as actuarial survival, rate of rejection, incidence of infection, probability of developing diabetes mellitus, renal function, platelet and white blood cell counts, and incidence of coronary artery disease at 1 year, were compared with a cohort of 25 patients (control group) who underwent transplantation primarily in 2000 and in early 2002 treated with cyclosporine, mycophenolate mofetil, and glucocorticoids. All patients were followed up for at least 12 months. Results Kaplan-Meier actuarial 1-year survival rates were equivalent between groups (97% for the treatment group and 88% for the control group), as was freedom from allograft rejection (48% and 42% for treatment and control groups, respectively). No cases of transplant arteriopathy were noted within the first posttransplantation year. Renal function was not significantly affected in either group. There was a striking increased incidence of mediastinitis in the treatment group (19%) versus 0% in the control group ( P = .02). Tacrolimus-sirolimus therapy was associated with a nearly 11-fold increased incidence of new-onset diabetes mellitus as well ( P = .004). Conclusion Tacrolimus, sirolimus, and steroids (following low-dose rabbit antithymocyte globulin) were associated with an increased incidence of mediastinitis and posttransplantation diabetes mellitus. No obvious long-term benefit on survival, arteriopathy, or renal function was noted.

Abstract: Background/Aims : The etiologic link between chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and mixed cryoglobulinemia is well established, while its prognostic significance within the context of HCV-related hepatitis is not as clear. Patients with an HCV-related cryoglobulinemic syndrome oft have mild liver disease, an aspect that can be influenced by an individual's Th1/Th2 orientation. Our goal was to document stigmata of differentiate cytokine production in this subgroup of patients. Methods : Fifteen patients with chronic HCV-related liver disease (CLD) and a cryoglobulinemic syndrome (CRYO) were compared to age/sex matched CLD controls with negative cryocrit. Cultured monocytes were stimulated with either Staphylococcus aureus (SAC) or lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Results : The protein concentrations of TNF-α and of the Th1-type cytokines interleukin (IL)-12 and IL-18 were significantly greater in the CRYO group, while IL-10 (a Th2 cytokine) levels were greater in the control group. Conclusions : The clinical distinctiveness of the two groups was reflected at the cytokine level. The cryoglobulinemic patients studied showed a greater Th1 polarization than their cryoglobulin-negative counterparts. This enhanced production of Th1-type cytokines is seemingly not able to rid the host of infection but may account for a milder course of liver disease.

Abstract: Patients with hepatitic and cholestatic autoimmune liver disease ("overlap syndrome") represent a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge.To evaluate the prevalence of the "hepatitic/cholestatic overlap" in a large series of consecutive patients with cholestatic autoimmune liver disease.We re-evaluated the diagnosis of 235 patients with autoimmune liver disease, including 70 with type 1 autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), 142 with primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), and 23 with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), using the revised International Autoimmune Hepatitis Group (IAIHG) scoring system. Anti-mitochondrial, anti-nuclear, anti-smooth muscle, anti-liver kidney microsomal type 1, anti-liver cytosol type 1, perinuclear anti-neutrophil nuclear and anti-soluble liver antigen antibodies were evaluated in each patient.Ten patients (3 with a previous diagnosis of PBC and 7 of PSC) scored as "probable" or "definite" AIH. These patients did not have a specific autoantibody profile.Among patients with PBC, the occurrence of a PBC/AIH overlapping syndrome is rare (2.1%), whereas among patients with PSC an overlap between PSC and AIH is frequent (30.4%). Whether patients with the hepatitic/cholestatic overlap syndrome would benefit from a combination therapy with immunosuppression and ursodeoxycholic acid remains to be established.

Abstract: We derive numerical tight-binding hopping parameters to describe conduction-band dispersion in arbitrary orientational phases of [ital A][sub 3]C[sub 60]. The parameters are obtained by direct Fourier inversion of the spectra from self-consistent electronic-structure calculations for K[sub 3]C[sub 60] using the local-density approximation, including the effects of orientational dependence. Using these parameters, we reconsider several earlier investigations of the orientational ordering in [ital A][sub 3]C[sub 60]; some of the earlier results are substantiated, while others are slightly modified.

Abstract: Розглянути детально систему правового регулювання охорони праці. Акцентувати увагу на чинники, які негативно впливають на стан охорони праці, серед них найвпливовішими визнати зношеність виробничих фондів, використання технічних засобів без обов’язкових дозволів та обліку, невідповідність робочих місць санітарно-гігієнічним правилам і нормам, порушення режимів праці та відпочинку, недоліки трудової дисципліни та низка інших. Вирішити проблему охорони праці щодо забезпечення пріоритету життя та здоров’я осіб, що працюють, щодо результатів виробничої діяльності, створення безпечних та здорових умов праці, ефективна робота системи державного нагляду і контролю та сучасних, адаптованих до міжнародних стандартів, механізмів адміністрування. Суспільні відносини в галузі охорони праці як об’єкт правового регулювання характеризується певними особливостями, а саме розгалуженою діяльністю, на яку поширюється таке регулювання, багаторівневою системою нормативно-правових актів, а також саме специфікою охорони праці як правового інституту. Показано те, що однією із важливих умов удосконалення правового регулювання охорони праці виступає розвиток технічного регулювання та нормативно-правового забезпечення різних аспектів у цій сфері, а також переведення його на наднаціональний принцип й подальша уніфікація. Специфіка правового регулювання охорони праці бути може розглянута за допомогою аналізу правових норм, що належать до цього інституту й ставлять його зміст.
