Background: The expanding use of Uncrewed Aircraft System (UAS) technology in disaster response shows its immense potential to enhance emergency management. However, there is limited documentation on the challenges and data management procedures related to UAS operation. Aims: This manuscript documents and analyses the operational, technical, political, and social challenges encountered during the deployment of UAS, providing insights into the complexities of using these technologies in disaster situations. Implications: The findings of this study inform future guidelines for the effective and safe use of UAS in disaster situations, advocating for a bridge between state-of-the-art UAS research and its practical application in emergency response. Based on mobile positioning big data, this study analyzes the quantity of visitation changes of leisure tourism facilities under the impact of COVID-19, which is a direct way to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on the leisure tourism industry. The quantity of visitation to the four types of leisure facilities (scenic spots, shopping services, sports services, science and cultural education services) in the three Chinese cities (Beijing, Shanghai, and Qingdao) decreased by 63.06% and 44.74% respectively on the Tomb Sweeping Day and the Labor Day in 2020 compared with 2019. The biggest decreasing was in science and cultural education services, followed by scenic spots and sports services, and finally shopping services. The curve of hourly visitations to leisure facilities in 2020 shows a smooth feature, indicating that the public has reduced the risk of pandemic through peak shifting leisure. The analysis of influencing factors shows that the influence of the floor area on visitation is different in different phases. From Tomb Sweeping Day to Labour Day in 2020, the influence of area on leisure behaviour changes from negative to positive. One of the turning points in the 1960 presidential campaign was a gathering of 150 Protestant ministers at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington on September 7, 1960, two days after Labor Day. During the closed-door gathering, Protestant leaders, including Norman Vincent Peale, unanimously adopted a statement warning about the dangers to the First Amendment and the separation of church and state should a Roman Catholic be elected president. Drawing on newly available archival sources, this article examines the role of religion in the 1960 campaign, including John F. Kennedy's long struggle to neutralize the issue and the significance of Paul Blanshard's 1949 best-seller, American Freedom and Catholic Power. Although Peale was roundly criticized for his role in the Mayflower gathering, the real force behind the meeting was Billy Graham, who did not attend. After assuring Kennedy in a letter dated August 10, 1960, that he, Graham, would not raise the religious issue in the campaign, Graham, at Peale's behest, convened a group of Protestant ministers at the Montreux Palace Hotel in Switzerland eight days later to discuss how they could deny Kennedy's election in November. The direct consequence of the Montreux meeting was the Mayflower Hotel gathering. While Peale took the heat for the meeting, Graham continued to play both sides, insisting publicly that he was neutral in the presidential race while working behind the scenes to advance Nixon's candidacy, a strategy he employed again twenty years later in an attempt to jettison the reelection of a fellow evangelical, Jimmy Carter. Purpose: To identify temporal patterns of emergency dispatches as initiated by Veteran Crisis Line (VCL) responders and among moderate‐ and high‐risk contacts. Methods: Incidence rate ratios (IRRs) were used to examine the incidence of emergency dispatches among all 1,437,543 VCL contacts across 2019–2020. Results: Emergency dispatches were initiated in 57,077 (4.0%) contacts. IRRs were elevated during Labor Day, IRR (95% CI) = 1.33 (1.15–1.54), and Independence Day, IRR (95% CI) = 1.22 (1.05–1.43), weekends, Saturdays, IRR (95% CI) = 1.04 (1.01–1.08), Sunday (reference), and 6 pm to 11:59 pm, IRR (95% CI) = 1.06 (1.04–1.09). IRRs for moderate‐ and high‐risk contacts were higher on Memorial Day, IRR (95% CI) = 1.16 (1.00–1.33), Sunday (reference), and 6 pm to 11:59 pm (reference). Conclusions: The initiation of emergency dispatches fluctuates over time and were highest during Labor Day and Independence Day, weekends, and evenings. Moderate‐ and high‐risk contact also fluctuate over time and were highest on Memorial Day, Sundays, and midnight to 5:59 am. VCL policy makers can use knowledge of temporal fluctuations to allocate public health resources for increased efficiency and greatest impact; however, additional research on temporal stability and generalizability is needed. Purpose: There has been a limited and inconsistent analysis of assault-related injury patterns associated with holidays. We investigated the temporal variation in assault-related injuries presenting to US emergency departments (ED) around holidays. Methods: We examined data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System Database between 2005 and 2017 for six categories of assault-related injuries: altercation, sexual assault, robbery, intimate partner violence (IPV), other specified, and unknown. Differences between holiday and non-holiday periods were analyzed for each assault type. Results: There was a significant difference in overall assault-related injury visits between holiday and non-holiday periods (p < 0.00001). Of over 21 million assault-related injury visits, 14.9% occurred during holiday periods and 85% during non-holiday periods. The difference between the daily number of assault-related ED visits was also significantly higher during the holiday period than baseline non-holiday period (p < 0.00001). Altercations and IPV were significantly higher than baseline for New Year's Eve (highest), St. Patrick's Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. IPV also remained significantly higher than baseline during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sexual assaults were significantly higher than baseline during the New Year's Eve period but lower than baseline during Christmas and Easter. The article deals with the reasons and historical roots of the celebration of dates directly related to people of labor - “Labor Days” and “World Day for Safety and Health at Work”. The emphasis is made on the fact that the establishment of these traditions is based on important socio-economic and socio-cultural changes inherent in different eras. For the end of the nineteenth century it was the desire of workers to win at least minimal conditions of social protection and improvement of working conditions, for the end of the twentieth century it was the awareness of all stakeholders of the need for joint efforts to improve occupational safety and health. We also traced more than a century-long history of “labour days”, which were characterized by both positive features in the form of maintaining solidarity of workers around the world and attempts of the authorities to use this holiday for their own purposes (primarily, in the form of the Soviet “May Day”). According to our estimation, even taking into account the somewhat different purpose of these two celebrations, at least at the level of moral and ethical dominants, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work has an undisputed priority. To this end, while the African diaspora in Guyana has been termed as a "primary diaspora", the African-Guyanese diaspora in New York City has been referred to as a "secondary diaspora". The African-Guyanese diaspora in New York comprises four groups: the migrated diaspora, the procreated or reproduced diaspora, the affinal diaspora and strangers and visitors. In this chapter, the author discovers that the Guyanese-African-American community is an example of a cultural mosaic, in which cultural elements of Africa, Guyana and America have been incorporated without renouncing their specific identities. This paper estimates the effect of high‐speed rail (HSR) on city tourism. To identify the causal effect, we measure tourism outcomes with population flow data from Tencent migration big data and construct daily panel data of two national holidays from April 2015 to May 2019. Empirical results reveal that HSR connection increases the intercity tourist flows, which holds under a number of robustness checks. Such effect is greater in the Labor Day holiday than in the National Day holiday, and the impact on tourist outflow in the first‐half holiday is greater than that on tourist inflow. We also find that HSR connection increases the intensity that tourists travel by train. Our findings provide solid evidence on the contribution of transportation improvement to city tourism economy.
