The biological preparation technologies of ingredients from pearls were reviewed around enzyme engineering and fermentation engineering. The distribution of efficacy of pearl hydrolysates and pearl fermented extracts were focused on, as well as possible mechanisms of action. The development prospect and application potential of biotechnologies in the direction of active ingredient extraction of pearls were pointed out, and certain theoretical and data support for biotechnology development for pearls were provided. To study the effectiveness and feasibility of cryogenic disinfectants in different cold scenarios and analyze the key points of on-site cryogenic disinfection. Qingdao and Suifenhe were selected as application sites for the manual or mechanical spraying of cryogenic disinfectants. The same amount of disinfectant (3,000 mg/L) was applied on cold chain food packaging, cold chain containers, transport vehicles, alpine environments, and article surfaces. The killing log value of the cryogenic disinfectant against the indicator microorganisms (Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli) was used to evaluate the on-site disinfection effect. When using 3,000 mg/L with an action time of 10 min on the ground in alpine regions, the surface of frozen items, cold-chain containers, and cold chain food packaging in supermarkets, all external surfaces were successfully disinfected, with a pass rate of 100%. The disinfection pass rates for cold chain food packaging and cold chain transport vehicles of centralized supervised warehouses and food processing enterprises were 12.5% (15/120), 81.67% (49/60), and 93.33% (14/15), respectively; yet, the surfaces were not fully sprayed. Cryogenic disinfectants are effective in disinfecting alpine environments and the outer packaging of frozen items. The application of cryogenic disinfectants should be regulated to ensure that they cover all surfaces of the disinfected object, thus ensuring effective cryogenic disinfection. A 8‐week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of combined oral administration of the yeast Rhodotorula sp. H26 and bacterium Bacillus sp. BC26 on growth, digestive enzyme activity, body composition, immunity, and intestinal microbiota in the juvenile sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus. Sea cucumbers were divided into four groups and received one of the following diets: BD) basal diet; H) H26; B) BC26; HB) H26 + BC26. After feeding for 4 and/or 8 weeks, sea cucumbers fed the HB diet showed a significant increase in specific growth rate, pepsin, trypsin, amylase, and lipase activities, and body wall crude protein, carbohydrate, arachidonic and adrenic acids contents compared with the BD and/or single probiont (H26 and/or BC26) groups. Feeding the mixture significantly improved phagocytic activity and respiratory burst of the coelomocytes, and lysozyme activity and phenoloxidase activity of the coelomic fluid supernatant and coelomocyte lysate supernatant compared with the BD and and/or single probiont (H26 and/or BC26) groups. Gel electrophoresis revealed that the mixture of H26 and BC26 did not significantly affect the composition of intestinal microbiota. These data suggest that a mixture of H26 and BC26 supplementation can improve the growth, enhance digestive enzyme activity, add nutritional value, and stimulate the innate immune system of sea cucumber juveniles. Recent studies have shown that chlorogenic acid (CGA), which is present in coffee, has protective effects on the nervous system. However, its role in neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury remains unclear. In this study, we established a newborn mouse model of hypoxic-ischemic brain injury using a modified Rice-Vannucci method and performed intraperitoneal injection of CGA. We found that CGA intervention effectively reduced the volume of cerebral infarct, alleviated cerebral edema, restored brain tissue structure after injury, and promoted axon growth in injured brain tissue. Moreover, CGA pretreatment alleviated oxygen-glucose deprivation damage of primary neurons and promoted neuron survival. In addition, changes in ferroptosis-related proteins caused by hypoxic-ischemic brain injury were partially reversed by CGA. Furthermore, CGA intervention upregulated the expression of the key ferroptosis factor glutathione peroxidase 4 and its upstream glutamate/cystine antiporter related factors SLC7A11 and SLC3A2. In summary, our findings reveal that CGA alleviates hypoxic-ischemic brain injury in neonatal mice by reducing ferroptosis, providing new ideas for the treatment of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury., Competing Interests: None

The novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the cause of a rapidly spreading illness, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), affecting more than seventeen million people around the world. Diagnosis and treatment guidelines for clinicians caring for patients are needed. In the early stage, we have issued "A rapid advice guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infected pneumonia (standard version)"; now there are many direct evidences emerged and may change some of previous recommendations and it is ripe for develop an evidence-based guideline. We formed a working group of clinical experts and methodologists. The steering group members proposed 29 questions that are relevant to the management of COVID-19 covering the following areas: chemoprophylaxis, diagnosis, treatments, and discharge management. We searched the literature for direct evidence on the management of COVID-19, and assessed its certainty generated recommendations using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach. Recommendations were either strong or weak, or in the form of ungraded consensus-based statement. Finally, we issued 34 statements. Among them, 6 were strong recommendations for, 14 were weak recommendations for, 3 were weak recommendations against and 11 were ungraded consensus-based statement. They covered topics of chemoprophylaxis (including agents and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) agents), diagnosis (including clinical manifestations, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), respiratory tract specimens, IgM and IgG antibody tests, chest computed tomography, chest x-ray, and CT features of asymptomatic infections), treatments (including lopinavir-ritonavir, umifenovir, favipiravir, interferon, remdesivir, combination of antiviral drugs, hydroxychloroquine/chloroquine, interleukin-6 inhibitors, interleukin-1 inhibitors, glucocorticoid, qingfei paidu decoction, lianhua qingwen granules/capsules, convalescent plasma, lung transplantation, invasive or noninvasive ventilation, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)), and discharge management (including discharge criteria and management plan in patients whose RT-PCR retesting shows SARS-CoV-2 positive after discharge). We also created two figures of these recommendations for the implementation purpose. We hope these recommendations can help support healthcare workers caring for COVID-19 patients.

Aim: To investigate the rate of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) resistance to clarithromycin among ethnic minority patients in Guangxi, explore the underlying mechanisms, and analyze factors influencing genotype distribution of H. pylori isolates., Methods: H. pylori strains were isolated, cultured and subjected to drug sensitivity testing. The 23S rRNA gene of H. pylori isolates was amplified by PCR and analyzed by PCR-RFLP and direct sequencing to detect point mutations. REP-PCR was used for genotyping of H. pylori isolates, and NTsys_2 software was used for clustering analysis based on REP-PCR DNA fingerprints. Factors potentially influencing genotype distribution of H. pylori isolates were analyzed., Results: The rate of clarithromycin resistance was 31.3%. A2143G and A2144G mutations were detected in the 23S rRNA gene of all clarithromycin-resistant H. pylori isolates. At a genetic distance of 78%, clarithromycin-resistant H. pylori isolates could be divided into six groups. Significant clustering was noted among H. pylori isolates from patients with peptic ulcer or gastritis., Conclusion: The rate of clarithromycin resistance is relatively high in ethnic minority patients in Guangxi. Main mechanisms of clarithromycin resistance are A2143G and A2144G mutations in the 23S rRNA gene. Clarithromycin-resistant H. pylori isolates can be divided into six groups based on REP-PCR DNA fingerprints. Several factors such as disease type may influence the genotype distribution of H. pylori isolates.
