Learning models for dynamical systems in continuous time is significant for understanding complex phenomena and making accurate predictions. This study presents a novel approach utilizing differential neural networks (DNNs) to model nonlinear systems, specifically permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs), and to predict their current trajectories. The efficacy of our approach is validated through experiments conducted under various load disturbances and no-load conditions. The results demonstrate that our method effectively and accurately reconstructs the original systems, showcasing strong short-term and long-term prediction capabilities and robustness. This study provides valuable insights into learning the inherent dynamics of complex dynamical data and holds potential for further applications in fields such as weather forecasting, robotics, and collective behavior analysis.

Learning models of dynamical systems with external inputs, that may be, for example, nonsmooth or piecewise, is crucial for studying complex phenomena and predicting future state evolution, which is essential for applications such as safety guarantees and decision-making. In this work, we introduce \emph{Input Concomitant Neural ODEs (ICODEs)}, which incorporate precise real-time input information into the learning process of the models, rather than treating the inputs as hidden parameters to be learned. The sufficient conditions to ensure the model's contraction property are provided to guarantee that system trajectories of the trained model converge to a fixed point, regardless of initial conditions across different training processes. We validate our method through experiments on several representative real dynamics: Single-link robot, DC-to-DC converter, motion dynamics of a rigid body, Rabinovich-Fabrikant equation, Glycolytic-glycogenolytic pathway model, and heat conduction equation. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed ICODEs efficiently learn the ground truth systems, achieving superior prediction performance under both typical and atypical inputs. This work offers a valuable class of neural ODE models for understanding physical systems with explicit external input information, with potential promising applications in fields such as physics and robotics.

Neural ODEs (NODEs) are continuous-time neural networks (NNs) that can process data without the limitation of time intervals. They have advantages in learning and understanding the evolution of complex real dynamics. Many previous works have focused on NODEs in concise forms, while numerous physical systems taking straightforward forms, in fact, belong to their more complex quasi-classes, thus appealing to a class of general NODEs with high scalability and flexibility to model those systems. This, however, may result in intricate nonlinear properties. In this paper, we introduce ControlSynth Neural ODEs (CSODEs). We show that despite their highly nonlinear nature, convergence can be guaranteed via tractable linear inequalities. In the composition of CSODEs, we introduce an extra control term for learning the potential simultaneous capture of dynamics at different scales, which could be particularly useful for partial differential equation-formulated systems. Finally, we compare several representative NNs with CSODEs on important physical dynamics under the inductive biases of CSODEs, and illustrate that CSODEs have better learning and predictive abilities in these settings.

Contact force in contact-rich environments is an essential modality for robots to perform general-purpose manipulation tasks, as it provides information to compensate for the deficiencies of visual and proprioceptive data in collision perception, high-precision grasping, and efficient manipulation. In this paper, we propose an admittance visuomotor policy framework for continuous, general-purpose, contact-rich manipulations. During demonstrations, we designed a low-cost, user-friendly teleoperation system with contact interaction, aiming to gather compliant robot demonstrations and accelerate the data collection process. During training and inference, we propose a diffusion-based model to plan action trajectories and desired contact forces from multimodal observation that includes contact force, vision and proprioception. We utilize an admittance controller for compliance action execution. A comparative evaluation with two state-of-the-art methods was conducted on five challenging tasks, each focusing on different action primitives, to demonstrate our framework's generalization capabilities. Results show our framework achieves the highest success rate and exhibits smoother and more efficient contact compared to other methods, the contact force required to complete each tasks was reduced on average by 48.8%, and the success rate was increased on average by 15.3%. This paper proposes arbitrary-order distributed finite-time differentiator (AODFD) for leader-follower multi-agent systems (MAS) under directed graph by only using relative or absolute output information. By using arbitrary-order distributed finite-time differentiator via relative output information (AODFD-R), each follower agent can obtain the relative output information between itself and leader and the relative output's arbitrary-order derivatives, where the information to be measured is only the local relative output information between each follower agent and its neighboring agents. As a simple extension of AODFD-R, the arbitrary-order distributed finite-time differentiator via absolute output information (AODFD-A) is also given. The finite-time stability of the closed-loop system under AODFD is proved by constructing a Lyapunov function skillfully. A flexible active safety motion (FASM) control approach is proposed for the avoidance of dynamic obstacles and the reference tracking in robot manipulators. The distinctive feature of the proposed method lies in its utilization of control barrier functions (CBF) to design flexible CBF-guided safety criteria (CBFSC) with dynamically optimized decay rates, thereby offering flexibility and active safety for robot manipulators in dynamic environments. First, discrete-time CBFs are employed to formulate the novel flexible CBFSC with dynamic decay rates for robot manipulators. Following that, the model predictive control (MPC) philosophy is applied, integrating flexible CBFSC as safety constraints into the receding-horizon optimization problem. Significantly, the decay rates of the designed CBFSC are incorporated as decision variables in the optimization problem, facilitating the dynamic enhancement of flexibility during the obstacle avoidance process. In particular, a novel cost function that integrates a penalty term is designed to dynamically adjust the safety margins of the CBFSC. In this study, we propose a safety-critical compliant control strategy designed to strictly enforce interaction force constraints during the physical interaction of robots with unknown environments. The interaction force constraint is interpreted as a new force-constrained control barrier function (FC-CBF) by exploiting the generalized contact model and the prior information of the environment, i.e., the prior stiffness and rest position, for robot kinematics. The difference between the real environment and the generalized contact model is approximated by constructing a tracking differentiator, and its estimation error is quantified based on Lyapunov theory. By interpreting strict interaction safety specification as a dynamic constraint, restricting the desired joint angular rates in kinematics, the proposed approach modifies nominal compliant controllers using quadratic programming, ensuring adherence to interaction force constraints in unknown environments. The strict force constraint and the stability of the closed-loop system are rigorously analyzed. Experimental tests using a UR3e industrial robot with different environments verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in achieving the force constraints in unknown environments.

Force interaction is inevitable when robots face multiple operation scenarios. How to make the robot competent in force control for generalized operations such as multi-tasks still remains a challenging problem. Aiming at the reproducibility of interaction tasks and the lack of a generalized force control framework for multi-task scenarios, this paper proposes a novel hybrid control framework based on active admittance control with iterative learning parameters-tunning mechanism. The method adopts admittance control as the underlying algorithm to ensure flexibility, and iterative learning as the high-level algorithm to regulate the parameters of the admittance model. The whole algorithm has flexibility and learning ability, which is capable of achieving the goal of excellent versatility. Four representative interactive robot manipulation tasks are chosen to investigate the consistency and generalisability of the proposed method. Experiments are designed to verify the effectiveness of the whole framework, and an average of 98.21% and 91.52% improvement of RMSE is obtained relative to the traditional admittance control as well as the model-free adaptive control, respectively.

This paper proposes a new distributed finite-time differentiator (DFD) for multi-agent systems (MAS) under directed graph, which extends the differentiator algorithm from the centralized case to the distributed case by only using relative/absolute position information. By skillfully constructing a Lyapunov function, the finite-time stability of the closed-loop system under DFD is proved. Inspired by the duality principle of control theory, a distributed continuous finite-time output consensus algorithm extended from DFD for a class of leader-follower MAS is provided, which not only completely suppresses disturbance, but also avoids chattering. Finally, several simulation examples are given to verify the effectiveness of the DFD.

This paper focuses on optimal mismatched disturbance rejection control for linear continuoustime uncontrollable systems. Different from previous studies, by introducing a new quadratic performance index to transform the mismatched disturbance rejection control into a linear quadratic tracking problem, the regulated state can track a reference trajectory and minimize the influence of disturbance. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability and the disturbance rejection controller are obtained by solving a forward-backward differential equation over a finite horizon. A sufficient condition for system stability is obtained over an infinite horizon under detectable condition. This paper details our novel approach for transforming disturbance rejection into a linear quadratic tracking problem. In this work, we propose a distributionally robust stochastic model predictive control (DR-SMPC) algorithm to address the problem of two-sided chance constrained discrete-time linear system corrupted by additive noise. The prevalent mechanism to cope with two-sided chance constraints is the so-called risk allocation approach, which conservatively approximates the two-sided chance constraints with two single chance constraints by applying the Boole's inequality. In this proposed DR-SMPC framework, an exact tractable second-order cone (SOC) approach is adopted to abstract the two-sided chance constraints by considering the first and second moments of the noise. The proposed DR-SMPC algorithm is able to guarantee that the worst-case probability of violating both the upper and lower limits of safety constraints is within the pre-specified maximum probability (PsMP). By flexibly adjusting this PsMP, the feasible region of the initial states can be increased for the SMPC problem. The recursive feasibility and convergence of the proposed DR-SMPC are established rigorously by introducing binary initialization strategy of nominal state. Motivated by the recently proposed dual control for exploration and exploitation (DCEE) concept, this paper presents a Multi-Step DCEE (MS-DCEE) framework with guaranteed convergence for autonomous search of a source of airborne dispersion. Different from the existing stochastic model predictive control (SMPC) algorithm and informative path planning (IPP) approaches, the proposed MS-DCEE approach uses the current and future input to not only drive the agent towards the estimated source location (exploitation) but also reduce its estimation uncertainty (exploration) by actively learning the operational environment. Unknown source target position, together with unknown environment, impose significant challenges in establishing the recursive feasibility and the convergence of the proposed algorithm. To address them, with the help of the property of Bayesian estimation, we develop a two-step approach where the unbiasedness of the mean estimation is assumed first and then the randomness of the mean estimate under each collected information sequence is accounted. Based on that, we develop a MS-DCEE scheme with suitable terminal ingredients where recursive feasibility and convergence are guaranteed. Two simulation scenarios are conducted, which show that the proposed MS-DCEE algorithm outperforms the SMPC, the IPP and the single-step DCEE approaches in terms of searching successful rates and efficiency., Comment: 4 figures

The performance of active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) algorithms can be limited in practice by high-frequency measurement noise. In this work, this problem is addressed by transforming the high-gain extended state observer (ESO), which is the inherent element of ADRC, into a new cascade observer structure. Set of experiments, performed on a DC-DC buck power converter system, show that the new cascade ESO design, compared to the conventional approach, effectively suppresses the detrimental effect of sensor noise over-amplification while increasing the estimation/control performance. In this work, an advanced motion controller is proposed for buck converter-fed DC motor systems. The design is based on an idea of active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) with its key component being a custom observer capable of reconstructing various types of disturbances (including complex, harmonic signals). A special formulation of the proposed design allows the control action to be expressed in a concise and practically appealing form reducing its implementation requirements. The obtained experimental results show increased performance of the introduced approach over conventionally used methods in tracking precision and disturbance rejection, while keeping similar level of energy consumption. Recent years have witnessed great progress in person re-identification (re-id). Several academic benchmarks such as Market1501, CUHK03 and DukeMTMC play important roles to promote the re-id research. To our best knowledge, all the existing benchmarks assume the same person will have the same clothes. While in real-world scenarios, it is very often for a person to change clothes. To address the clothes changing person re-id problem, we construct a novel large-scale re-id benchmark named ClOthes ChAnging Person Set (COCAS), which provides multiple images of the same identity with different clothes. COCAS totally contains 62,382 body images from 5,266 persons. Based on COCAS, we introduce a new person re-id setting for clothes changing problem, where the query includes both a clothes template and a person image taking another clothes. Moreover, we propose a two-branch network named Biometric-Clothes Network (BC-Net) which can effectively integrate biometric and clothes feature for re-id under our setting.
