The Lower Ordovician Tongzi Formation containing abundant shoal sediments is the most promising stratum for the petroleum exploration in the Sichuan Basin. However, the current studies mainly focus on the central part of the Basin, the systematic analysis of the southeastern part with well-developed shoal facies is lacking. This paper aims to clarify the characteristics and genesis of the Tongzi Formation reservoir in Southeastern Sichuan Basin, following an analysis of sedimentary facies within the sequence stratigraphic framework. The research shows that the main types of reservoir rocks are oolitic, intraclastic and bioclastic dolostones. And the reservoir spaces consist mainly of intergranular (dissolved) pores, intercrystalline (dissolved) pores, intragranular dissolved pores and fractures. Among them, intergranular pores account for the highest proportion, which is followed by intragranular dissolved pores. In addition, most throats are necking and flaky which mainly connect intergranular and intercrystalline pores, respectively. The diagenetic sequence shows that penecontemporaneous karst well improved the porosity of the reservoir in the early-stage although the cementation and compaction reduced parts of pores. The reservoir formation is associated with the tectonic-depositional settings, diageneses and terrigenous contamination. Paleohighlands and submerged uplifts, forming in the early Ordovician amalgamation between Yangtze and Cathaysia blocks, accumulated shoal sediments as the material basis for the reservoir formation. Penecontemporaneous karst forming intragranular dissolved pores and the dolomitization aiding grainstones to resist the pressure solution are the key to increasing porosity and preserving pores. The absence of terrigenous contamination prevented intergranular pores from being strongly cemented, which resulted in the reservoir difference between the central and southeastern Sichuan Basin. The study can be used as a reference for the further exploration of Ordovician petroleum in the Sichuan Basin and other regions owning similar geological settings.

Abstract Astragali radix (AR, namded Huangqi in Chinese) is the dried root of Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge. var. mongholicus (Bge.) Hsiao or Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge. As a widely used ethnomedicine, the biological activities of AR include immunomodulatory, anti-hyperglycemic, anti-oxidant, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-tumor, cardioprotective, and anti-diabetic effects, with minimum side effects. Currently, it is known that polysaccharides, saponins, and flavonoids are the indispensable components of AR. In this review, we will elaborate the research advancements of AR on ethnobotany, ethnopharmacological practices, phytochemicals, pharmacological activities, clinical uses, quality control, production developments, and toxicology. The information is expected to assist clinicians and scientists in developing useful therapeutic medicines with minimal systemic side effects.

Abstract Background Both ambient air pollution and lifestyle factors contribute to the incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but previous studies usually focused on single-factor associations. We aimed to assess the joint associations of ambient air pollution and lifestyle with the NAFLD risk and investigate whether lifestyle modifies the association of air pollution with NAFLD risk. Methods A total of 417,025 participants from the UK Biobank were included in this study. Annual average concentrations of NO2, NOx, PM2.5, PM10, and PM2.5−10 were estimated. A composite lifestyle score was determined based on physical activity, alcohol intake, smoking status, dietary patterns, sedentary time, and sleep duration. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to estimate the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), as well as the population attributable fraction (PAF). Potential additive interactions of air pollution with lifestyle were also examined by the relative excess risk due to the interaction (RERI) and the attributable proportion due to the interaction (AP). Results 4752 (1.14%) incident NAFLD events were recorded. Long-term exposure to air pollutants and an unhealthy lifestyle were significantly associated with the increased risk of incident NAFLD. Lifestyle was the primary factor of incident NAFLD, with a PAF of 37.18% (95% CI: 29.67%, 44.69%). In addition, a significant additive interaction between air pollution and lifestyle for NAFLD risk was observed (RERI: 0.36, 95% CI: 0.09–0.63). Conclusions Long-term exposure to ambient air pollutants and poor lifestyle were jointly associated with a higher risk of NAFLD.

Abstract Background Information transmission between primary tumor cells and immunocytes or stromal cells in distal organs is a critical factor in the formation of pre-metastatic niche (PMN). Understanding this mechanism is essential for developing effective therapeutic strategy against tumor metastasis. Our study aims to prove the hypothesis that circ-0034880-enriched tumor-derived extracellular vesicles (TEVs) mediate the formation of PMN and colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRLM), and targeting circ-0034880-enriched TEVs might be an effective therapeutic strategy against PMN formation and CRLM. Methods We utilized qPCR and FISH to measure circRNAs expression levels in human CRC plasma, primary CRC tissues, and liver metastatic tissues. Additionally, we employed immunofluorescence, RNA sequencing, and in vivo experiments to assess the effect mechanism of circ-0034880-enriched TEVs on PMN formation and CRC metastasis. DARTS, CETSA and computational docking modeling were applied to explore the pharmacological effects of Ginsenoside Rb1 in impeding PMN formation. Results We found that circ-0034880 was highly enriched in plasma extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from CRC patients and closely associated with CRLM. Functionally, circ-0034880-enriched TEVs entered the liver tissues and were absorbed by macrophages in the liver through bloodstream. Mechanically, TEVs-released circ-0034880 enhanced the activation of SPP1highCD206+ pro-tumor macrophages, reshaping the metastasis-supportive host stromal microenvironment and promoting overt metastasis. Importantly, our mechanistic findings led us to discover that the natural product Ginsenoside Rb1 impeded the activation of SPP1highCD206+ pro-tumor macrophages by reducing circ-0034880 biogenesis, thereby suppressing PMN formation and inhibiting CRLM. Conclusions Circ-0034880-enriched TEVs facilitate strong interaction between primary tumor cells and SPP1highCD206+ pro-tumor macrophages, promoting PMN formation and CRLM. These findings suggest the potential of using Ginsenoside Rb1 as an alternative therapeutic agent to reshape PMN formation and prevent CRLM.

Abstract The impact of digitalization on the high-quality development of “technology-sparse” but “labor-intensive” cultural, sports, and tourism enterprises may not follow a linear path. Therefore, there is an urgent need to explore the mechanism by which digitalization contributes to the integrated high-quality development of enterprises from the perspective of resources and capabilities. The majority of studies focus on the theoretical realm, while challenges in acquiring crucial data indicators constrain the advancement of empirical inquiries. This study creates a lexicon of digitized features encompassing strategic, technical, and application layers within cultural, sports, and tourism enterprises. The MD&A texts from annual reports were processed using the TF-IDF algorithm, which is based on machine learning, to assess the level of digitization. Additionally, integration development was incorporated into the evaluation system for high-quality development of cultural, sports, and tourism enterprises via social network analysis. In terms of theoretical contributions, enterprise search and reorganization capabilities were included within the scope of core enterprise capabilities. Furthermore, the study elucidated the roles of human capital and enterprise innovation in the interplay between digitalization and high-quality development, drawing upon the resource-based view and core capabilities theory. Finally, we empirically examined panel data from 116 listed cultural, sports, and tourism companies in Chinese A-share markets from 2010 to 2020. The findings reveal the following: (1) There is an inverted U-shaped association between digitalization and high-quality development, initially promoting then hindering progress, with a persistent pattern over time and robustness against instrumental variable regression and endogeneity tests. Additionally, the majority of cultural, sports, and tourism enterprises fall within a moderate range, indicating a positive impact on high-quality development. (2) Human capital and enterprise innovation are mediators of the inverted U-shaped relationship between digitalization and high-quality development. (3) The influence of digitalization on high-quality development significantly varies depending on the enterprise’s geographical location, life cycle, and risk tolerance. The study reveals the digitalization journey within cultural, sports, and tourism enterprises, offering theoretical insights for fostering collaborative high-quality development within the industry amid digitalization.

Abstract Background Indoor environmental factors, such as pet ownership, presence of cockroaches, mattress quality, fuel usage (gas or electricity), use of biomass for cooking and heating, exposure to tobacco smoke or household molds can significantly affect the sleep quality of children with chronic cough. However, data regarding the effects of indoor environmental conditions on sleep in this population are limited. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of abnormal sleep behaviors and to establish associations between indoor environmental factors and sleep behaviors among children with chronic cough in Wuxi, China. Methods A cross-sectional design was employed in this study, involving children aged 3–18 years. Data on sociodemographic factors, allergies, home environmental exposures, and sleep characteristics of the participants were collected using paper-based questionnaires. The association between indoor environmental factors and sleep behaviors in children with chronic cough was analyzed using logistic regression models. Results The findings demonstrated that the prevalence of chronic cough among children in Wuxi was 15.50%. The chronic cough group exhibited a significantly higher incidence of eczema, wheezing, rhinitis, food allergy, and nasosinusitis than the non-chronic cough group. Abstract Background Rifampicin resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB) poses a growing threat to individuals and communities. This study utilized a seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) model to quantitatively predict the monthly incidence of RR-TB in Yunnan Province which could guide government health administration departments and the centers for disease control and prevention (CDC) in preventing and controlling the RR-TB epidemic. Methods The study utilized routine surveillance reporting data from the infectious Disease Network Surveillance and Reporting System. Monthly incidence rates of RR-TB were collected from January 2019 to December 2022. A time series SARIMA model was used to predict the number of monthly RR-TB cases in Yunnan Province in 2023, and the model was validated using time series plots, seasonal and non-seasonal differencing, autocorrelation and partial autocorrelation analysis, and white noise tests. Results From 2019 to 2022, the incidence of RR-TB decreases as the incidence of all TB decreases (P 0.05). The time series decomposition shows that it presented obvious seasonality, periodicity and randomness after being decomposed. Abstract Iron-based Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTS) catalyst is widely used for syngas conversion, but its iron carbide active phase is easily oxidized into Fe3O4 by the water produced during reaction, leading to the deterioration of catalytic performance. Here, we show an efficient strategy for protecting the iron carbide active phase of FTS catalyst by surface hydrophobization. The hydrophobic surface can reduce the water concentration in the core vicinity of catalyst during syngas conversion, and thus inhibit the oxidation of iron species by water, which enhances the C − C coupling ability of catalyst and promotes the formation of long-chain olefins. More significantly, it is unraveled that appropriate shell thickness plays a crucial role in stabilizing the iron carbide active phase without Fe3O4 formation and achieving good catalytic performance.

Abstract Purpose To explore the influence of circulating lymphocyte subsets, serum markers, clinical factors, and their impact on overall survival (OS) in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA-NPC). Additionally, to construct a nomogram predicting OS for LA-NPC patients using independent prognostic factors. Methods A total of 530 patients with LA-NPC were included in this study. In the training cohort, Cox regression analysis was utilized to identify independent prognostic factors, which were then integrated into the nomogram. The concordance index (C-index) was calculated for both training and validation cohorts. Schoenfeld residual analysis, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were employed to evaluate the nomogram. Kaplan-Meier methods was performed based on risk stratification using the nomogram. Results A total of 530 LA-NPC patients were included. Abstract Objective The present study examined the ability of the body roundness index (BRI) to predict the incidence of diabetes and prediabetes among adults in the USA. Method The study enrolled 11,980 adults aged ≥ 20 years from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Logistic regression served as the primary method for analyzing the relevant link between BRI and the incidence of diabetes and prediabetes, including univariate analysis, multivariate regression analysis, smooth curve fitting analysis, and subgroup analysis. What’s more, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was applied to confirm the predictive values of BRI for diabetes and prediabetes. Results Each unit higher than BRI was associated with a 17% increased risk of diabetes and prediabetes after covariate adjustments (OR: 1.17, 95% CI: 1.07–1.27). Those with BRI in the high scores (Q4) possessed an increased likelihood of having diabetes and prediabetes than individuals in the reference group (OR: 1.83, 95% CI: 1.29–2.58). A smooth curve fitting analysis revealed a non-linear trend. The results across all population subgroups were uniform to those of the total population. The ROC curve indicated that the BRI was the best predictor of diabetes and prediabetes among other anthropometric indices. Conclusions Diabetes and prediabetes occurrence rates and BRI have a positive and non-linear relationship in American adults. The BRI indices could function as predictive markers for diabetes and prediabetes.

Abstract Background Mean perfusion pressure (MPP) has recently emerged as a potential biomarker for personalized management of tissue perfusion in critically ill patients. However, its association with the occurrence of acute kidney injury (AKI) in septic patients and the optimal MPP range remain uncertain. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between MPP and AKI in critically ill patients with sepsis. Methods We identified 5867 patients with sepsis from the MIMIC-IV database who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The exposure variable was the first set of MPP measured within 24 h after ICU admission with invasive hemodynamic monitoring. The primary outcome was the incidence of AKI at 7 days following ICU admission according to the Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) guidelines. Secondary outcomes included in-hospital mortality, lengths of ICU, and hospital stay. Optimal cut-off point for MPP were determined using the Youden index, and multivariable logistic regression was employed to examine the association between MPP and AKI. Subgroup analyses were conducted to enhance result robustness. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was utilized to evaluate in-hospital mortality rates categorized by MPP. Results A total of 5,867 patients with sepsis were included in this study, and the overall incidence of AKI was 82.3%(4828/5867). Patients were categorized into low MPP ( 0.05). Abstract Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) constitutes an important contributor to fatalities. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) frequently presents with complications such as respiratory distress, systemic inflammatory responses, and damage to various organs. Several studies have investigated the relationship between COVID-19 and mortality in patients with liver cancer, but there are few research on the relationship between them. This study is to explore the correlation between the two diseases and drugs treating them. Methods The Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database provides gene datasets of COVID-19 patients and HCC patients. Through differential gene analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis, we determined 223 genes represented in HCC and COVID-19. We then used functional annotation, protein–protein interaction network construction, predictive model development and verification, prognostic value analysis, and miRNA–gene network construction. Besides, we created a drug–hub–gene network by predicting possible medications that interact with hub genes using the Drug–Gene Interaction Database (DGIdb). Ultimately, we applied immunohistochemistry to ascertain the hub genes expression. Results This study revealed that eight core genes (RRM2, TPX2, DTL, CDT1, TYMS, CDCA5, CDC25C, and HJURP) co-existed in both HCC and COVID-19 and were differentially expressed in both HCC and normal tissues.CDC25C, RRM2, CDCA5, and HJURP had diagnostic value (AUC > 0.8) and prognostic value (adjusted P-value

Abstract Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP1), which is mainly processed and cleaved from proglucagon in enteroendocrine cells (EECs) of the intestinal tract, acts on the GLP1 receptor in pancreatic cells to stimulate insulin secretion and to inhibit glucagon secretion. However, GLP1 processing is not fully understood. Here, we show that reticulon 4B (Nogo-B), an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident protein, interacts with the major proglucagon fragment of proglucagon to retain proglucagon on the ER, thereby inhibiting PCSK1-mediated cleavage of proglucagon in the Golgi. Intestinal Nogo-B knockout in male type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) mice increases GLP1 and insulin levels and decreases glucagon levels, thereby alleviating pancreatic injury and insulin resistance. Finally, we identify aberrantly elevated Nogo-B expression and inhibited proglucagon cleavage in EECs from diabetic patients. Our study reveals the subcellular regulatory processes involving Nogo-B during GLP1 production and suggests intestinal Nogo-B as a potential therapeutic target for T2DM.

Abstract Objective This study aims to explore ADH4 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), its prognostic impact, and its immune correlation to provide novel insights into HCC prognostication and treatment. Methods HCC prognostic marker genes were rigorously selected using GEO database, Lasso regression, GEPIA, Kaplan-Meier and pROC analyses. The expression of interested markers (ADH4, DNASE1L3, RDH16, LCAT, HGFAC) in HCC and adjacent tissues was assessed by Immunohistochemistry (IHC). We observed that ADH4 exhibited low expression levels in liver cancer tissues and high expression levels in normal liver tissues. However, the remaining four genes did not manifest any statistically significant differences between hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissue and adjacent non-cancerous tissue. Consequently, ADH4 became the primary focus of our research. ADH4 expression was validated by signed-rank tests and unpaired Wilcoxon rank sum tests across pan-cancer and HCC datasets. Clinical significance and associations with clinicopathological variables were determined using Kaplan-Meier, logistic regression and Cox analyses on TCGA data. The ADH4-related immune responses were explored by Spearman correlation analysis using TIMER2 data. CD68, CD4, and CD19 protein levels were confirmed by IHC in HCC and non-cancerous tissues. Results ADH4 showed significant downregulation in various cancers, particularly in HCC. Moreover, low ADH4 expression was associated with clinicopathological variables and served as an independent prognostic marker for HCC patients. Additionally, ADH4 affects a variety of biochemical functions and may influence cancer development, prognosis, and treatment by binding to immune cells. Furthermore, at the immune level, the low expression pattern of ADH4 is TME-specific, indicating that ADH4 has the potential to be used as a target for cancer immunotherapy. Conclusion This study highlights the diagnostic, prognostic and immunomodulatory roles of ADH4 in HCC. ADH4 could serve as a valuable biomarker for HCC diagnosis and prognosis, as well as a potential target for immunotherapeutic interventions.

In the context of inverse $ {{N}_{0}} $-matrices, this study focuses on the closure of generalized Perron complements by utilizing the characteristics of $ M $-matrices, nonnegative matrices, and inverse $ {{N}_{0}} $-matrices. In particular, we illustrate that the inverse $ {{N}_{0}} $-matrix and its Perron complement matrix possess the same spectral radius. Furthermore, we present certain general inequalities concerning generalized Perron complements, Perron complements, and submatrices of inverse $ {{N}_{0}} $-matrices. Finally, we provide specific examples to verify our findings.

Objective To establish reference intervals for serum soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR) and sTfR/log serum ferritin index (sTfR/lgSF) in apparently healthy adults in the Wuhan area, so as to provide reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment of iron deficiency and iron-deficiency anemia. Methods A total of 273 individuals from the Wuhan Aisa General Hospital, including health examination participants and blood donors, were selected to measure sTfR, other iron metabolism indicators and high sensitivity C-reactive protein(hsCRP). The sTfR/lgSF values were calculated and reference intervals for sTfR and sTfR /lgSF were established using the percentile method (P2.5 to P97.5). Spearman correlation analysis was used to evaluate the relationships between sTfR, sTfR/lgSF, and other iron metabolism indicators, as well as hsCRP. Results The sTfR levels (M, mg/L) between males and females (1.01 vs 1.07) were not statistically significant (P>0.05), but the sTfR/lgSF levels if males were significantly lower than those in females (0.45 vs 0.62)(P0.05). The reference interval for STfR was (0.72-1.68) mg/L, the sTfR/lgSF reference interval was (0.31-0.88) for males, and (0.37-1.19) for females. Correlation analysis showed no correlation between sTfR, sTfR/lgSF and hsCRP (r=0.043, P>0.05; r=-0.064, P>0.05), while serum ferritin(SF), serum iron(SI), transferrin saturation(TSAT)were correlated with hsCRP (r=0.128, P0.05), while sTfR/lgSF was significantly correlated with and SF (r=-0.685, P

Wood fiber insulation (WFI) was studied as an eco-friendly alternative for fossil-based building insulation, focusing on its use in new wood fiber-insulated panels (WIPs). Rigid WFI boards with densities of 110, 140, and 180 kg/m³, including a 140 kg/m³ variant without paraffin wax, were evaluated. Key properties investigated included porosity, water vapor transmission, liquid water adsorption, and thermal conductivity. The porosity ranged between 85 and 92%, primarily influenced by density. Water vapor permeability ranged from 65 to 90 ng·s-1m-1Pa-1, while liquid water absorption was between 2.5 and 20% by volume, influenced by both wax and density. The thermal conductivity coefficient ranged from 0.038 to 0.055 W/(m·K). Bond strength tests with WFI (140 kg/m³ with wax) laminated to various materials using structural adhesives showed tensile perpendicular-to-grain strengths of 10 to 16 kPa and shear strengths of 60 to 90 kPa, with failure only occurring within the WFI. It was concluded that WFI is a promising material for novel WIPs, offering competitive hygrothermal properties and compatibility with structural adhesives. However, its bio-based nature suggests variability and complexity, necessitating further rigorous testing in various climates and in more complex assemblies.

Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to develop and validate prognostic models for predicting overall survival in individuals with gastric carcinoma, specifically focusing on both negative and positive lymphatic metastasis. Methods A total of 1650 patients who underwent radical gastric surgery at Shanxi Cancer Hospital between May 2002 and December 2020 were included in the analysis. Multiple Cox Proportional Hazards analysis was performed to identify key variables associated with overall survival in both negative and positive lymphatic metastasis cases. Internal validation was conducted using bootstrapping to assess the prediction accuracy of the models. Calibration curves were used to demonstrate the accuracy and consistency of the predictions. The discriminative abilities of the prognostic models were evaluated and compared with the 8th edition of AJCC-TNM staging using Harrell’s Concordance index, decision curve analysis, and time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curves. Results The nomogram for node-negative lymphatic metastasis included variables such as age, pT stage, and maximum tumor diameter. The C-index for this model in internal validation was 0.719, indicating better performance compared to the AJCC 8th edition TNM staging. The nomogram for node-positive lymphatic metastasis included variables such as gender, age, maximum tumor diameter, neural invasion, Lauren classification, and expression of Her-2, CK7, and CD56. The C-index for this model was 0.674, also outperforming the AJCC 8th edition TNM staging. Calibration curves, time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curves, and decision curve analysis for both nomograms demonstrated excellent prediction ability. Furthermore, significant differences in prognosis between low- and high-risk groups supported the models’ strong risk stratification performance. Conclusion This study provides valuable risk stratification models for lymphatic metastasis in gastric carcinoma, encompassing both node-positive and negative cases. These models can help identify low-risk individuals who may not require further intervention, while high-risk individuals can benefit from targeted therapies aimed at addressing lymphatic metastasis.

Abstract Visual adaptive devices have potential to simplify circuits and algorithms in machine vision systems to adapt and perceive images with varying brightness levels, which is however limited by sluggish adaptation process. Here, the avalanche tuning as feedforward inhibition in bionic two-dimensional (2D) transistor is proposed for fast and high-frequency visual adaptation behavior with microsecond-level accurate perception, the adaptation speed is over 104 times faster than that of human retina and reported bionic sensors. As light intensity changes, the bionic transistor spontaneously switches between avalanche and photoconductive effect, varying responsivity in both magnitude and sign (from 7.6 × 104 to −1 × 103 A/W), thereby achieving ultra-fast scotopic and photopic adaptation process of 108 and 268 μs, respectively. By further combining convolutional neural networks with avalanche-tuned bionic transistor, an adaptative machine vision is achieved with remarkable microsecond-level rapid adaptation capabilities and robust image recognition with over 98% precision in both dim and bright conditions.

Abstract Electronic cigarettes (e-cigs) use, especially among youngsters, has been on the rise in recent years. However, little is known about the long-term effects of the use of e-cigs on brain functional activity. We acquired the resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data from 93 e-cigs users with nicotine dependence and 103 health controls (HC). The local synchronization was analyzed via the regional homogeneity (ReHo) method at voxel-wise level. The functional connectivity (FC) between the nucleus accumbens (NAcc), the ventral tegmental area (VTA), and the insula was calculated at ROI-wise level. Abstract Background The Atribacterota are widely distributed in the subsurface biosphere. Recently, the first Atribacterota isolate was described and the number of Atribacterota genome sequences retrieved from environmental samples has increased significantly; however, their diversity, physiology, ecology, and evolution remain poorly understood. Results We report the isolation of the second member of Atribacterota, Thermatribacter velox gen. nov., sp. nov., within a new family Thermatribacteraceae fam. nov., and the short-term laboratory cultivation of a member of the JS1 lineage, Phoenicimicrobium oleiphilum HX-OS.bin.34TS, both from a terrestrial oil reservoir. Physiological and metatranscriptomics analyses showed that Thermatribacter velox B11T and Phoenicimicrobium oleiphilum HX-OS.bin.34TS ferment sugars and n-alkanes, respectively, producing H2, CO2, and acetate as common products. Comparative genomics showed that all members of the Atribacterota lack a complete Wood-Ljungdahl Pathway (WLP), but that the Reductive Glycine Pathway (RGP) is widespread, indicating that the RGP, rather than WLP, is a central hub in Atribacterota metabolism. Ancestral character state reconstructions and phylogenetic analyses showed that key genes encoding the RGP (fdhA, fhs, folD, glyA, gcvT, gcvPAB, pdhD) and other central functions were gained independently in the two classes, Atribacteria (OP9) and Phoenicimicrobiia (JS1), after which they were inherited vertically; these genes included fumarate-adding enzymes (faeA; Phoenicimicrobiia only), the CODH/ACS complex (acsABCDE), and diverse hydrogenases (NiFe group 3b, 4b and FeFe group A3, C). Finally, we present genome-resolved community metabolic models showing the central roles of Atribacteria (OP9) and Phoenicimicrobiia (JS1) in acetate- and hydrocarbon-rich environments. Conclusion Our findings expand the knowledge of the diversity, physiology, ecology, and evolution of the phylum Atribacterota. This study is a starting point for promoting more incisive studies of their syntrophic biology and may guide the rational design of strategies to cultivate them in the laboratory. Video Abstract

Abstract This study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of interventional embolization in cirrhotic patients with refractory hepatic encephalopathy (HE) associated with large spontaneous portosystemic shunts (SPSS). Inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) was employed to minimize potential bias. A total of 123 patients were included in this study (34 in the embolization group and 89 in the control group). In the unadjusted cohort, the embolization group demonstrated significantly better liver function, a larger total area of SPSS, and a higher percentage of patients with serum ammonia levels > 60 µmol/L and the presence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (all P 0.05). Patients in the embolization group exhibited significantly longer HE-free survival compared to the control group in both the unadjusted and IPTW cohorts (both P 60 μmol/L, hepatopetal flow within the portal trunk, the presence of solitary SPSS, a baseline HE grade of II, and the absence of HCC at baseline showed statistically significant benefit from embolization treatment (all P 0.05). Hence, interventional embolization appears to be a safe and effective treatment modality for cirrhotic patients with refractory HE associated with large SPSS. However, the benefits of embolization were discernible only in a specific subset of patients.

Abstract Background Crohn’s disease (CD) is a chronic condition characterized by a high recurrence rate after surgery, which seriously affects the quality of life of patients. Many studies have explored the risk factors for the recurrence of CD after surgery, there is a lack of meta-analysis focusing on endoscopic postoperative recurrence (ePOR) as a clinical outcome. Therefore, this paper aims to identify the risk factors for ePOR in CD patients through systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases were searched for related literature from inception to 17th October 2023. Two researchers independently screened the literature and extracted information. Data analysis was performed using Stata18.0. Results Twenty-three papers were included, with 5 case-control studies and 18 cohort studies. The National Institutes of Health quality assessment tool rated 17 studies as good and 6 studies as fair. The sample size of the 23 studies ranged from 40 to 346, and the number of patients with ePOR ranged from 23 to 169. The results of multivariate meta-analysis showed that smoking [OR = 2.06, 95% CI (1.65, 2.57), P = 0.0001], previous ileocolonic resection [OR = 1.71, 95% CI (1.23, 2.38), P = 0.002], disease localization at ileocolic resection [OR = 2.68, 95% CI (1.38, 5.22), P = 0.004], perianal disease [OR = 1.47, 95% CI (1.07, 2.03), P = 0.017], and anastomotic scattered ulcer [OR = 3.39, 95% CI (1.83, 6.28), P = 0.001] were risk factors for ePOR in CD patients. Postoperative prophylactic medication [OR = 0.53, 95% CI (0.38,0.75), P = 0.0001] was a protective factor for ePOR in CD patients. Conclusions This systematic review identified multiple factors for ePOR in CD patients, as well as a protective factor. However, the number of articles included was limited. More high-quality clinical studies are required to further validate the conclusions. Abstract Background Bladder dysfunction, notably urinary retention, emerges as a significant complication for cervical cancer patients following radical hysterectomy, predominantly due to nerve damage, severely impacting their postoperative quality of life. The challenges to recovery include insufficient pelvic floor muscle training and the negative effects of prolonged postoperative indwelling urinary catheters. Intermittent catheterization represents the gold standard for neurogenic bladder management, facilitating bladder training, which is an important behavioral therapy aiming to enhance bladder function through the training of the external urethral sphincter and promoting the recovery of the micturition reflex. Nevertheless, gaps remain in current research regarding optimal timing for intermittent catheterization and the evaluation of subjective symptoms of bladder dysfunction. Methods Cervical cancer patients undergoing laparoscopic radical hysterectomy will be recruited to this randomized controlled trial. Participants will be randomly assigned to either early postoperative catheter removal combined with intermittent catheterization group or a control group receiving standard care with indwelling urinary catheters. All these patients will be followed for 3 months after surgery. The study’s primary endpoint is the comparison of bladder function recovery rates (defined as achieving a Bladder Function Recovery Grade of II or higher) 2 weeks post-surgery. Secondary endpoints include the incidence of urinary tract infections, and changes in urodynamic parameters, and Mesure Du Handicap Urinaire scores within 1 month postoperatively. All analysis will adhere to the intention-to-treat principle. Discussion The findings from this trial are expected to refine clinical management strategies for enhancing postoperative recovery among cervical cancer patients undergoing radical hysterectomy. By providing robust evidence, this study aims to support patients and their families in informed decision-making regarding postoperative bladder management, potentially reducing the incidence of urinary complications and improving overall quality of life post-surgery. Abstract Background Unprofessional behaviours between healthcare workers are highly prevalent. Evaluations of large-scale culture change programs are rare resulting in limited evidence of intervention effectiveness. We conducted a multi-method evaluation of a professional accountability and culture change program “Ethos” implemented across eight Australian hospitals. The Ethos program incorporates training for staff in speaking-up; an online system for reporting co-worker behaviours; and a tiered accountability pathway, including peer-messengers who deliver feedback to staff for ‘reflection’ or ‘recognition’. Here we report the final evaluation component which aimed to measure changes in the prevalence of unprofessional behaviours before and after Ethos. Methods A survey of staff (clinical and non-clinical) experiences of 26 unprofessional behaviours across five hospitals at baseline before (2018) and 2.5–3 years after (2021/2022) Ethos implementation. Five of the 26 behaviours were classified as ‘extreme’ (e.g., assault) and 21 as incivility/bullying (e.g., being spoken to rudely). Our analysis assessed changes in four dimensions: work-related bullying; person-related bullying; physical bullying and sexual harassment. Change in experience of incivility/bullying was compared using multivariable ordinal logistic regression. Change in extreme behaviours was assessed using multivariable binary logistic regression. All models were adjusted for respondent characteristics. Results In total, 3975 surveys were completed. Abstract Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health threat, necessitating effective strategies for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. This study employs a multi-cohort analysis approach to unravel the immune microenvironment of TB and delineate distinct subtypes within pulmonary TB (PTB) patients. Leveraging functional gene expression signatures (Fges), we identified three PTB subtypes (C1, C2, and C3) characterized by differential immune-inflammatory activity. These subtypes exhibited unique molecular features, functional disparities, and cell infiltration patterns, suggesting varying disease trajectories and treatment responses. A neural network model was developed to predict PTB progression based on a set of biomarker genes, achieving promising accuracy. Notably, despite both genders being affected by PTB, females exhibited a relatively higher risk of deterioration. Additionally, single-cell analysis provided insights into enhanced major histocompatibility complex (MHC) signaling in the rapid clearance of early pathogens in the C3 subgroup. This comprehensive approach offers valuable insights into PTB pathogenesis, facilitating personalized treatment strategies and precision medicine interventions.

Abstract Background Faced with the high cost and limited efficiency of classical randomized controlled trials, researchers are increasingly applying adaptive designs to speed up the development of new drugs. However, the application of adaptive design to drug randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and whether the reporting is adequate are unclear. Thus, this study aimed to summarize the epidemiological characteristics of the relevant trials and assess their reporting quality by the Adaptive designs CONSORT Extension (ACE) checklist. Methods We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) and ClinicalTrials.gov from inception to January 2020. We included drug RCTs that explicitly claimed to be adaptive trials or used any type of adaptative design. We extracted the epidemiological characteristics of included studies to summarize their adaptive design application. We assessed the reporting quality of the trials by Adaptive designs CONSORT Extension (ACE) checklist. Univariable and multivariable linear regression models were used to the association of four prespecified factors with the quality of reporting. Results Our survey included 108 adaptive trials. We found that adaptive design has been increasingly applied over the years, and was commonly used in phase II trials (n = 45, 41.7%). The primary reasons for using adaptive design were to speed the trial and facilitate decision-making (n = 24, 22.2%), maximize the benefit of participants (n = 21, 19.4%), and reduce the total sample size (n = 15, 13.9%). Group sequential design (n = 63, 58.3%) was the most frequently applied method, followed by adaptive randomization design (n = 26, 24.1%), and adaptive dose-finding design (n = 24, 22.2%). The proportion of adherence to the ACE checklist of 26 topics ranged from 7.4 to 99.1%, with eight topics being adequately reported (i.e., level of adherence ≥ 80%), and eight others being poorly reported (i.e., level of adherence ≤ 30%). In addition, among the seven items specific for adaptive trials, three were poorly reported: accessibility to statistical analysis plan (n = 8, 7.4%), measures for confidentiality (n = 14, 13.0%), and assessments of similarity between interim stages (n = 25, 23.1%). Icebergs are big chunks of ice floating on the ocean surface, and melting of icebergs contributes for the major part of freshwater flux into ocean. Dynamic monitoring of the icebergs in Antarctica and accurate estimation of their volume are important for predicting the trend of freshwater budget of the Southern Ocean. The iceberg freeboard is a key parameter for measuring the thickness and volume of an iceberg and is defined as the difference between the elevation of iceberg surface and sea level. So far, freeboards of icebergs have been successfully extracted using InSAR DEM, and the laser and radar altimeter. However, uncertainties exist in these results mainly caused by missed detection of small icebergs due to the spatially sparse and temporally incomplete data coverage. In addition to the above techniques, optical images can also be used to extract the iceberg freeboard based on its geometric relationship with shadow length, which can effectively compensate for the above shortcomings. Although the feasibility has been preliminarily presented, the precision and extensive application of shadow-height method deserves further research, such as estimating the basal melting of icebergs. In this work, we tested an optical image-based freeboard extraction method over icebergs in Prydz Bay, Antarctica. A normalized shadow pixel index (NSPI) is designed to identify iceberg shadows with different shapes in HY-1C/D CZI and Sentinel-2 MSI optical images. The iceberg freeboard can be determined with an acceptable precision (2 m) in optical images compared with laser altimeter (i.e. ICESat-2) measurements. Moreover, basal melting of icebergs has been assessed according to the variation of freeboard using repeated optical observations. The results indicate that icebergs in the study area were with a mean freeboard of about 56 m in early December 2022, and experienced a decrease in freeboard of 1.9 m within two months, in correspondence with the Antarctic seasonal trend. The methodological framework, therefore, turns out to be a reliable complementary approach to studying the iceberg freeboard in polar regions.

Abstract Objective Most studies investigated the relationship between COVID-19 and Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) by comparing the incidence of GBS before and during the pandemic of COVID-19. However, the findings were inconsistent, probably owing to varying degrees of the lockdown policy. The quarantine requirements and travel restrictions in China were lifted around December 7, 2022. This study aimed to explore whether the relative frequency of GBS increased during the major outbreak in the absence of COVID-19-mandated social restrictions in China. Methods GBS patients admitted to the First Hospital, Shanxi Medical University, from December 7, 2022 to February 20, 2023, and from June, 2017 to August, 2019 were included. The relative frequencies of GBS in hospitalized patients during different periods were compared. The patients with and without SARS-CoV-2 infection within six weeks prior to GBS onset formed the COVID-GBS group and non-COVID-GBS group, respectively. The O-AMAS (Objective, Activation, Multi-learning, Assessment, Summary) model adheres to the teaching philosophy of student-centered, result-oriented, combines the advantages of online and offline teaching, enriching teaching resources and learning channels, diversifying teaching and evaluation methods, and emphasizing integrating and applying knowledge conducive to improving students’ SDL ability and achieving teaching objectives. This study explored the course design, practical, and application effects under the O-AMAS effective teaching model in internal medicine nursing to provide a basis and reference for combining effective teaching models with blended teaching in future nursing courses. Methods This study is a self-controlled before-after trial. The participants were 76 nursing undergraduates from Hunan Normal University. This study utilizes the O-AMAS effective teaching model to design internal medicine nursing courses and implement blended online and offline teaching. Abstract We report a breakthrough in the hardware implementation of energy-efficient all-spin synapse and neuron devices for highly scalable integrated neuromorphic circuits. Our work demonstrates the successful execution of all-spin synapse and activation function generator using domain wall-magnetic tunnel junctions. By harnessing the synergistic effects of spin-orbit torque and interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in selectively etched spin-orbit coupling layers, we achieve a programmable multi-state synaptic device with high reliability. Our first-principles calculations confirm that the reduced atomic distance between 5d and 3d atoms enhances Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, leading to stable domain wall pinning. Our experimental results, supported by visualizing energy landscapes and theoretical simulations, validate the proposed mechanism. Furthermore, we demonstrate a spin-neuron with a sigmoidal activation function, enabling high operation frequency up to 20 MHz and low energy consumption of 508 fJ/operation. A neuron circuit design with a compact sigmoidal cell area and low power consumption is also presented, along with corroborated experimental implementation. Our findings highlight the great potential of domain wall-magnetic tunnel junctions in the development of all-spin neuromorphic computing hardware, offering exciting possibilities for energy-efficient and scalable neural network architectures.

Abstract Background Implicit absenteeism is very common among nurses. Poor perceived social support of intensive care unit nurses has a negative impact on their mental and physical health. There is evidence that lack of occupational coping self-efficacy can promote implicit absenteeism; however, the relationship between lack of occupational coping self-efficacy in perceived social support and implicit absenteeism of intensive care unit nurses is unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the role of perceived social support between lack of occupational coping self-efficacy and implicit absenteeism of intensive care unit nurses, and to provide reliable evidence to the management of clinical nurses. Methods A cross-sectional study of 517 intensive care unit nurses in 10 tertiary hospitals in Sichuan province, China was conducted, of which 474 were valid questionnaires with a valid recovery rate of 91.6%. The survey tools included the Chinese version of Implicit Absenteeism Scale, the Chinese version of Perceived Social Support Scale, the Chinese version of Occupational Coping Self-Efficacy Scale and the Sociodemographic characteristics. Descriptive analysis and Pearson correlation analysis were performed using SPSS version 22.0, while the mediating effects were performed using AMOS version 24.0. Results The average of intensive care unit nurses had a total implicit absenteeism score of (16.87 ± 3.98), in this study, the median of intensive care unit nurses’ implicit absenteeism score was 17, there were 210 intensive care unit nurses with low implicit absenteeism (44.3%) and 264 ICU nurses with high implicit absenteeism (55.7%). A total perceived social support score of (62.87 ± 11.61), and a total lack of occupational coping self-efficacy score of (22.78 ± 5.98). Abstract Background The real-world tuberculosis (TB) surveillance data was generally incomplete due to underreporting and underdiagnosis. The inventory study aimed to assess and quantify the incompletion of surveillance systems in southwestern China. Methods The inventory study was conducted at randomly selected health facilities (HF) by multi-stage stratified cluster sampling. The participants were included in the period between August of 2020 in province-level and prefecture-level HF, and in the period between June to December of 2020 in other categories of HF respectively. The clinical committee confirmed medical records were matched to the National Notifiable Disease Reporting System (NNDRS) and the Tuberculosis Information Management System (TBIMS) to define the report and register status. The underreporting and under-register rates were evaluated based on the matched data, and factors associated with underreport and under-register were assessed by the 2-level logistic multilevel model (MLM). Results We enrolled 7,749 confirmed TB cases in the analysis. The province representative overall underreport rate to NNDRS was 1.6% (95% confidence interval, 95% CI, 1.3 − 1.9), and the overall under-register rate to TBIMS was 9.6% (95% CI, 8.9–10.3). The various underreport and under-register rates were displayed in different stratifications of background TB disease burden, HF level, HF category, and data source of the medical record in HF among prefectures of the province. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.57 for the underreporting null MLM, indicating the facility-level cluster effect contributes a great share of variation in total variance. Abstract Improving access to HIV/AIDS healthcare services is of great concern to government and policymakers striving to strengthen overall public health. How to reasonably allocate HIV/AIDS healthcare resources and maximize the equality of access to healthcare services across subdistrict areas has become an urgent problem to be solved. However, there is limited research on this topic in China. It is necessary to evaluate spatial accessibility to improve the accessibility and equity of HIV/AIDS healthcare services. In this study, the improved multi-modal two-step floating catchment area (2SFCA) and inverted 2SFCA (i2SFCA) methods are used to measure the spatial accessibility of HIV/AIDS healthcare services and the crowdedness of the healthcare sites in Shandong Province, China. Then, the theoretical supply and the optimal spatial distribution of resources are calculated and visualized by minimizing the accessibility gaps between demand locations. This study showed that the spatial accessibility of HIV/AIDS service resources in Shandong Province was concentrated and unevenly distributed, and the accessibility scores in the marginal areas of prefecture-level cities were significantly lower than those in other areas. Regions with a large number of doctors had significantly higher levels of spatial accessibility. The ART accessibility scores in the southwest of Shandong Province were higher than those in other regions. As the travel friction coefficient increased, the accessibility scores formed an approximately circular cluster distribution centered on the healthcare sites in geographical distribution. More ART drugs needed to be supplied in marginal areas and more doctors were needed to work on HIV/AIDS in urban areas to address the spatial distribution imbalance of HIV/AIDS healthcare services. This study profoundly analyzed the spatial accessibility of HIV/AIDS healthcare services and provided essential references for decision-makers. In addition, it gives a significant exploration for achieving the goal of equal access to HIV/AIDS healthcare services in the future.

ABSTRACTCandida albicans is a common fungal pathogen that can cause life-threatening infections. MIR1 is considered to be a mitochondrial phosphate carrier of C. albicans, while its role in virulence has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we found that mir1Δ/Δ mutant exhibited severe virulence defect in both nematode and murine models. Further mechanism studies revealed that the mir1Δ/Δ mutant grew more slowly than the wild-type strain and showed severe filamentation defects on the hypha-inducing agar media, including YPD + serum, Lee, Spider + glucose, SLAD, SLD, and YPS. Furthermore, the loss of MIR1 resulted in unfermentable carbon utilisation defect, ATP decrease, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation in C. albicans. Antioxidant proanthocyanidins, vitamin E, and N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) could reduce intracellular ROS levels and partially rescue the filamentation defects of the mir1Δ/Δ mutant. Accordingly, hypha-specific genes, as well as CEK1 and RIM101 were down-regulated in the mir1Δ/Δ mutant, and this down-regulation could be partially rescued by the addition of the antioxidant NAC. Collectively, MIR1 plays an important role in C. albicans mitochondrial function, filamentation and virulence, and would be a promising antifungal target.

Objective: To compare the quantitative parameters of lung HRCT and clinical manifestations of anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA5) antibody-positive idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) patients with different prognoses. Methods: The clinical and imaging data of 19 MDA5 antibody-positive IIM patients admitted to Beijing Shijitan Hospital Affiliated with Capital Medical University between February 2017 and November 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the prognoses, the patients were divided into the good prognoses group (14 cases) and the poor prognoses (intubation or death) group (5 cases). The clinical and laboratory indexes, types of interstitial lung disease (ILD), and CT quantitative indexes were compared between the two groups. Results: There were significant differences in gender; carcinoembryonic antigen; blood oxygen saturation; and the percentages of lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, and neutrophils between the good versus the poor prognoses groups. The proportion of abnormal respiratory system changes was higher in the poor prognoses group. In terms of the type of ILD, acute interstitial pneumonia (AIP)-like lesions were the main type in the poor prognoses group, and nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (AIP) lesions were the main type in the good prognoses group. For NSIP-like lesions, there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups. The semi-quantitative score of the poor prognoses group was higher, and the volume of whole lung lesions as well as the proportion of whole lung lesions were also higher. Spearman correlation analysis showed that the blood oxygen saturation, monocyte percentage, semi-quantitative score, whole lung lesion volume, and proportion of whole lung lesion were negatively correlated, while carcinoembryonic antigen, neutrophil percentage, and neutrophils were positively correlated with the semi-quantitative score, whole lung lesion volume, and proportion of whole lung lesion. Conclusions: The lung HRCT quantitative indicators, clinical manifestations, and laboratory indicators are different in MDA5 antibody-positive IIM patients with different prognoses. Early evaluation of HRCT imaging manifestations, clinical manifestations, and laboratory indicators is of great significance in determining the prognosis of MDA5 antibody-positive IIM patients, which provides corresponding support for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract The use of genetic engineering to generate point mutations in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) is essential for studying a specific genetic effect in an isogenic background. We demonstrate that a combination of p53 inhibition and pro-survival small molecules achieves a homologous recombination rate higher than 90% using Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) in human iPSCs. Our protocol reduces the effort and time required to create isogenic lines.

Abstract Background Influenza is an acute respiratory infection caused by influenza virus. Maxing Shigan Decoction (MXSGD) is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine prescription for the prevention and treatment of influenza. However, its mechanism remains unclear. Method The mice model of influenza A virus pneumonia was established by nasal inoculation. After 3 days of intervention, the lung index was calculated, and the pathological changes of lung tissue were detected by HE staining. Firstly, transcriptomics technology was used to analyze the differential genes and important pathways in mouse lung tissue regulated by MXSGD. Then, real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR (RT-PCR) was used to verify the changes in mRNA expression in lung tissues. Abstract Zinc-alpha2-glycoprotein (AZGP1) has been implicated in peripheral metabolism; however, its role in regulating energy metabolism in the brain, particularly in POMC neurons, remains unknown. Here, we show that AZGP1 in POMC neurons plays a crucial role in controlling whole-body metabolism. POMC neuron-specific overexpression of Azgp1 under high-fat diet conditions reduces energy intake, raises energy expenditure, elevates peripheral tissue leptin and insulin sensitivity, alleviates liver steatosis, and promotes adipose tissue browning. Conversely, mice with inducible deletion of Azgp1 in POMC neurons exhibit the opposite metabolic phenotypes, showing increased susceptibility to diet-induced obesity. Notably, an increase in AZGP1 signaling in the hypothalamus elevates STAT3 phosphorylation and increases POMC neuron excitability. Mechanistically, AZGP1 enhances leptin-JAK2-STAT3 signaling by interacting with acylglycerol kinase (AGK) to block its ubiquitination degradation. Collectively, these results suggest that AZGP1 plays a crucial role in regulating energy homeostasis and glucose/lipid metabolism by acting on hypothalamic POMC neurons.

Abstract Accurate on‐board state‐of‐health (SOH) prediction is crucial for lithium‐ion battery applications. This study presents an in situ prediction technique for minorly deformed battery SOH, utilizing a Gaussian process regression (GPR) model tuned by a Bayesian optimization algorithm. Unlike previous methods that interpret voltage–time data as incremental capacitance curves, our approach directly operates on raw voltage–time data. We apply gray relational analysis to select feature variables as inputs and train the Bayesian Gaussian process regression (BGPR) model using experimental data from batteries under different working conditions. To demonstrate the performance of the BGPR model, we compare it with stepwise linear regression, neural network, and Bayesian support vector machine (BSVM) models. The performance of these four models is evaluated using different performance indicators: mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), root‐mean‐squared percentage error (RMSPE), and coefficient of determination (R²). The results demonstrate that the BGPR model exhibits superior prediction performance with the lowest MAPE (0.11%), RMSPE (0.12%), and the highest R² (0.9915) for minorly deformed batteries. Furthermore, the BGPR model exhibits excellent robustness for SOH prediction of normal batteries under different conditions. This study provides an effective and robust method for accurate on‐board SOH prediction in lithium‐ion battery applications.

Abstract Background The outbreak of Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) in 2019 has continued until now, posing a huge threat to the public’s physical and mental health, resulting in different degrees of mental health problems. As a vulnerable segment of the public, anxiety is one of the most common mental health problems among COVID-19 patients. Excessive anxiety aggravates the physical and psychological symptoms of COVID-19 patients, which is detrimental to their treatment and recovery, increases financial expenditure, affects family relations, and adds to the medical burden. Objective This study aimed to explore the role of psychological capital and self-esteem in the relationship between insomnia and anxiety, thereby shedding light on the mechanism of the effect of insomnia on anxiety in COVID-19 patients. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted from April to May 2022 in Fangcang hospital in Shanghai, China. The self-administered questionnaires were distributed to 718 COVID-19 patients via cell phone using the Internet platform “Questionnaire Star”, which included Athens Insomnia Scale, Psychological Capital Questionnaire, Self-esteem Scale, Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, gender, age, marital status, education. Summary: Background: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have revealed many brain disorder-associated SNPs residing in the noncoding genome, rendering it a challenge to decipher the underlying pathogenic mechanisms. Methods: Here, we present an unsupervised Bayesian framework to identify disease-associated genes by integrating risk SNPs with long-range chromatin interactions (iGOAT), including SNP-SNP interactions extracted from ∼500,000 patients and controls from the UK Biobank, and enhancer–promoter interactions derived from multiple brain cell types at different developmental stages. Findings: The application of iGOAT to three psychiatric disorders and three neurodegenerative/neurological diseases predicted sets of high-risk (HRGs) and low-risk (LRGs) genes for each disorder. The HRGs were enriched in drug targets, and exhibited higher expression during prenatal brain developmental stages than postnatal stages, indicating their potential to affect brain development at an early stage. The HRGs associated with Alzheimer's disease were found to share genetic architecture with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder according to gene co-expression module analysis and rare variants analysis. Comparisons of this method to the eQTL-based method, the TWAS-based method, and the gene-level GWAS method indicated that the genes identified by our method are more enriched in known brain disorder-related genes, and exhibited higher precision. Finally, the method predicted 205 risk genes not previously reported to be associated with any brain disorder, of which one top-risk gene, MLH1, was experimentally validated as being schizophrenia-associated. Interpretation: iGOAT can successfully leverage epigenomic data, phenotype–genotype associations, and protein–protein interactions to advance our understanding of brain disorders, thereby facilitating the development of new therapeutic approaches. Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting presents a promising approach for harnessing solar energy and converting it into hydrogen energy. However, the limited water oxidation activity of semiconductor photoanodes has severely hampered the overall conversion efficiency. In this study, a hollow dodecahedral structure of NiCo-LDH (HD-NiCo-LDH) was designed using the metal-organic framework ZIF-67 as a precursor. HD-NiCo-LDH was employed to modify the BiVO4 photoanode, serving as an oxygen evolution cocatalyst. HD-NiCo-LDH can enhance light absorption, accelerate photogenic hole extraction, promote photogenic charge separation and improve the kinetics of water oxidation reaction. Significantly, the unique hollow dodecahedral structure of HD-NiCo-LDH possesses a larger specific surface areas, which provides additional active sites for the water oxidation reaction and facilitates the adsorption of water molecules. The photocurrent density of the optimized HD-NiCo-LDH/BiVO4 photoanode reaches 4.54 mA/cm2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE, which is 3.3 times greater than the bare BiVO4 photoanode. This presented work introduces an innovative design concept for photoanodes supported by oxygen evolution cocatalysts with multi-active sites.

Vitamin D binding protein (VDBP) serves as a key transporter protein responsible for binding and delivering vitamin D and its metabolites to target organs. VDBP plays a crucial part in the inflammatory reaction following tissue damage and is engaged in actin degradation. Recent research has shed light on its potential role in various diseases, leading to a growing interest in understanding the implications of VDBP in psychiatric and neurological disorders. The purpose of this review was to provide a summary of the existing understanding regarding the involvement of VDBP in neurological and psychiatric disorders. By examining the intricate interplay between VDBP and these disorders, this review contributes to a deeper understanding of underlying mechanisms and potential therapeutic avenues. Insights gained from the study of VDBP could pave the way for novel strategies in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of psychiatric and neurological disorders.

Background Hemorrhoids are common conditions at or around the anus, to which numerous people suffer worldwide. Previous research has suggested that microbes may play a role in the development of hemorrhoids, and the origins of these microbes have been preliminarily investigated. However, no detailed research on the microbes related to hemorrhoid patients has been conducted. This work aims to provide an initial investigation into the microbes related to hemorrhoid patients with high quality whole genome sequencing. Methods Forty-nine bacterial strains were isolated from seven hemorrhoid patients. Third-generation nanopore sequencing was performed to obtain high quality whole genome sequences. The presence of plasmids, particularly new plasmids, along with antibiotic resistance genes, was investigated for these strains. Phylogenetic analysis and genome comparisons were performed. Results Out of the 31 plasmids found in the strains, 15 new plasmids that have not been observed previously were discovered. Further structural analysis revealed new multidrug-resistant conjugative plasmids, virulent plasmids, and small, high-copy mobile plasmids that may play significant functional roles. These plasmids were found to harbor numerous integrases, transposases, and recombinases, suggesting their ability to quickly obtain genes to change functions. Analysis of antibiotic resistance genes revealed the presence of antibiotic resistant-integrons. Together with the surprising number of new plasmids identified, as well as the finding of transmission and modification events for plasmids in this work, we came to the suggestion that plasmids play a major role in genetic plasticity. Conclusion This study reveals that the diversity of plasmids in human-associated microbes has been underestimated. With the decreasing cost of whole-genome sequencing, monitoring plasmids deserves increased attention in future surveillance efforts.

Abstract With the rapid development of advanced technologies in the Internet of Things era, higher requirements are needed for next‐generation electronic devices. Fortunately, organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) provide an effective solution for electronic skin and flexible wearable devices due to their intrinsic features of mechanical flexibility, lightweight, simple fabrication process, and good biocompatibility. So far considerable efforts have been devoted to this research field. This article reviews recent advances in various promising and state‐of‐the‐art OTFTs as well as related integrated circuits with the main focuses on: (I) material categories of high‐mobility organic semiconductors for both individual transistors and integrated circuits; (II) effective device architectures and processing techniques for large‐area fabrication; (III) important performance metrics of organic integrated circuits and realization of digital and analog devices for future smart life; (IV) applicable analytical models and design flow to accelerate the circuit design. In addition, the emerging challenges of OTFT‐based integrated circuits, such as transistor uniformity and stability are also discussed, and the possible methods to solve these problems at both transistor and circuit levels are summarized.

Abstract Immunosuppression is a major hallmark of tumor progression in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Cluster of differentiation 147 (CD147), an important pro‐tumorigenic factor, is closely linked to NSCLC immunosuppression. However, the role of CD147 di‐methylation in the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) remains unclear. Here, di‐methylation of CD147 at Lys148 (CD147‐K148me2) is identified as a common post‐translational modification (PTM) in NSCLC that is significantly associated with unsatisfying survival outcomes among NSCLC sufferers, especially those in the advanced stages of the disease. The methyltransferase NSD2 catalyzes CD147 to generate CD147‐K148me2. Further analysis demonstrates that CD147‐K148me2 reestablishes the immunosuppressive TME and promotes NSCLC progression. Mechanistically, this modification promotes the interaction between cyclophilin A (CyPA) and CD147, and in turn, increases CCL5 gene transcription by activating p38‐ZBTB32 signaling, leading to increased NSCLC cell‐derived CCL5 secretion. Subsequently, CD147‐K148me2‐mediated CCL5 upregulation facilitates M2‐like tumor‐associated macrophage (TAM) infiltration in NSCLC tissues via CCL5/CCR5 axis‐dependent intercellular crosstalk between tumor cells and macrophages, which is inhibited by blocking CD147‐K148me2 with the targeted antibody 12C8. Overall, this study reveals the role of CD147‐K148me2‐driven intercellular crosstalk in the development of NSCLC immunosuppression, and provides a potential interventional strategy for PTM‐targeted NSCLC therapy.

ABSTRACT While in hospite Symbiodiniaceae dinoflagellates are essential for coral health, ambient free-living counterparts are crucial for coral recruitment and resilience. Comparing free-living and in hospite Symbiodiniaceae communities can potentially provide insights into endosymbiont acquisition and recurrent recruitment in bleaching recovery. In this study, we studied coral-endosymbiotic and ambient free-living Symbiodiniaceae communities in the South China Sea. We collected samples from 183 coral and ambient plankton samples and conducted metabarcoding to investigate the diversity distribution, driving factors, and assembly mechanisms of the two groups of Symbiodiniaceae. Results revealed Cladocopium C1 and Durusdinium D1 as dominant genotypes. We detected a higher genotypic diversity in free-living than in hospite symbiodiniacean communities, but with shared dominant genotypes. This indicates a genetically diverse pool of Symbiodiniaceae available for recruitment by corals. Strikingly, we found that the cooler area had more Symbiodiniaceae thermosensitive genotypes, whereas the warmer area had more Symbiodiniaceae thermotolerant genotypes. Furthermore, in hospite and free-living Symbiodiniaceae communities were similarly affected by environmental factors, but shaped by different assembly mechanisms. The in hospite communities were controlled mainly by deterministic processes, whereas the ambient communities by stochastic processes. This study sheds light on the genetic diversity of source environmental Symbiodiniaceae and differential assembly mechanisms influencing Symbiodiniaceae inside and outside corals.IMPORTANCESymbiodiniaceae dinoflagellates play a pivotal role as key primary producers within coral reef ecosystems. Coral-endosymbiotic Symbiodiniaceae communities have been extensively studied, but relatively little work has been reported on the free-living Symbiodiniaceae community. Conducting a comparative analysis between sympatric coral-endosymbiotic and free-living Symbiodiniaceae communities can potentially enhance the understanding of how endosymbiont communities change in response to changing environments and the mechanisms driving these changes. Our findings shed light on the genetic diversity of source environmental Symbiodiniaceae and differential assembly mechanisms shaping free-living and in hospite Symbiodiniaceae communities, with implications in evaluating the adaptive and resilient capacity of corals in response to future climate change.

BackgroundThe αvβ6-integrin targeting trimeric ligand [68Ga]Ga-Trivehexin has emerged as a promising candidate for clinical application due to its clinical imaging potentials in various malignant cancers. Our objective was to develop a simplified and reproducible module-based automated synthesis protocol to expand its availability in clinical application.MethodsThe pH value and the precursor load of radiolabeling were explored using an iQS-TS fully-automated module. Radiochemical purity was evaluated by radio-HPLC and radio-TLC. The ethanol content, radionuclide purity and identity, bacterial endotoxins, sterility, and stability of the final product [68Ga]Ga-Trivehexin were all tested. Biodistribution of [68Ga]Ga-Trivehexin in healthy volunteers was also conducted.ResultsThe synthesis was explored and established using fully-automated module with outstanding radiochemical purity (>99%). Considering molar activity and economic costs, a pH of 3.6 and precursor dose of 30 μg were determined to be optimal. All relevant quality control parameters were tested and met the requirement of European Pharmacopoeia. In vitro stability test and imaging in healthy volunteer indicated the practical significance in clinical routines.ConclusionsA fully-automated synthesis protocol for [68Ga]Ga-Trivehexin using the iQS-TS synthesis module was achieved and conformed to the clinical quality standards.Clinical trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov, NCT05835570.
