Abstract

Considering that a personal car spends about 95% of its life in parking mode, calendar aging can have a significant impact on battery life. High temperature storage is a common method for rapid evaluation of battery calendar life. In order to obtain reliable results of high temperature accelerated aging test, it is necessary to study the aging mechanism of battery stored at different temperature conditions. In this paper, the calendar aging experiment of graphite-SiOx/NCM811 pouch cells were carried out within the temperature range of 25-55℃. The differential curve analysis and post-mortem analysis were used to explore the aging mechanism. The results show that the calendar aging of pouch cells is mainly caused by the loss of lithium inventory and the loss of cathode active materials. When cells store at higher temperature, the loss of lithium inventory and the loss of cathode active materials increase, while the loss of anode active materials remains relatively unchanged. Based on various test results, it can be inferred that the parasitic reactions on the surface of electrode lead to the loss of lithium inventory and the increase of SEI. With the increase of storage temperature, this side reaction continues and consumes more lithium inventory. It is worth mentioning that when storage at 55℃, the microcracking develops and even breaks some of the secondary particles of cathode materials. Therefore, the pouch cells suffer severe loss of cathode active materials, which makes it inappropriate to accelerate the aging of batteries at such high temperature.

Abstract

With the rapid development of the new energy automotive industry, consumers' requirements for the range of electric vehicles have been increasing. The Ni-rich ternary lithium-ion battery has become the most promising power battery in electric vehicles due to its high specific energy, but the battery system still faces the problem of poor performance at low temperature.The research progress on low temperature performance of Ni-rich ternary power battery in recent years was summarized in this review. The influence factors on the low temperature performance of Ni-rich ternary power battery were summarized emphatically. On the one hand, the effects of low temperature performance from thermodynamics were analyzed, including the structural change of the Ni-rich ternary cathode materials and graphite anode materials, electrolytic phase transformation and solvation structure changes, and glass transition of binder. On the other hand, rate controlling step in the low temperature discharge process in the Ni-rich ternary lithium-ion battery was summed up. According to this, main modification measures of low-temperature performance in Ni-rich ternary power battery were summarized. Low temperature electrolyte was designed by optimizing solvents, improving lithium salts and applying new additives. In order to improve the low temperature performance of electrode materials, three methods were mainly employed: substitution, surface modification and smaller material particle size. The remaining shortcomings of the research on low-temperature performance of the battery were summarized, and the research on the low temperature thermodynamic characteristics of batteries is not clear enough. In addition, the research methods for the low temperature kinetic process of batteries are single, and the influence of the reaction sequence in batteries is insufficiently understood.

Abstract

The aqueous zinc ion battery emerges as the promising candidate applied in large‐scale energy storage system. However, Zn anode suffers from the issues including Zn dendrite, Hydrogen evolution reaction and corrosion. These challenges are primarily derived from the instability of anode/electrolyte interface, which is associated with the interfacial charge density distribution. In this context, the recent advancements concentrating on the strategies and mechanisms to regulate charge density at the Zn anode/electrolyte interface are summarized. Different characterization techniques for charge density distribution have been analysed, which can be applied to assess the interfacial zinc ion transport. Additionally, the charge density regulations at the Zn anode/electrolyte interface are discussed, elucidating their roles in modulating electrostatic interactions, electric field, structure of solvated zinc ion and electric double layer, respectively. Finally, the perspectives and challenges on the further research are provided to establish the stable anode/electrolyte interface by focusing on charge density modifications, which is expected to facilitate the development of aqueous zinc ion battery. 43. Design and Reaction Mechanism of Rechargeable Lithium–Carbon Fluoride Battery

Abstract

Recharging primary batteries is of great importance for increasing the energy density of energy storage systems to power electric aircraft and beyond. Carbon fluoride (CFx) cathodes are characterized by high specific capacity and energy density (865 mAh g–1and 2180 Wh kg–1, respectively). Preventing the crystallization of LiF with an intermediate and lowering the energy barrier from LiF to CFxis expected to render the Li/CFxbattery reversible. In this study, taking the advantage of a high-voltage-stable all-fluorinated electrolyte containing the boron-based anion receptor tris(trimethylsilyl)borate (TMSB), a rechargeable Li/CFxbattery was realized with a reversible capacity of 465.9 mAh g–1and an energy density of 1183.9 Wh kg–1, approximately 53% of that in the first discharge. After the first discharge, the charge–discharge profile featured rechargeable characteristics. In situX-ray diffraction, ex situsoft X-ray absorption spectroscopy, pair distribution function analysis, and other measurements confirmed the generation and decomposition of Li–F and C–F bonds during cycling. Density functional theory calculations and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy confirmed that TMSB serves as an anion carrier through the generation of a [TMSB–F]−complex, facilitating the conversion reactions during cycling. This study demonstrated a facile and low-cost approach for realizing high-energy-density, reversible Li/CFxbatteries.
