Aquatic ecosystems can harbour more than one non-native fish species and this can represent a threat due to trophic interactions with native fishes. However, research on interactions amongst multiple co-occurring native and non-native fish remains scarce. In this study, 551 organisms from 44 native fish, 11 non-native fish, 35 macroinvertebrates (of which one was non-native), together with 162 samples of basal resources were collected from six rivers of the Lower Pearl River Basin of China. Nitrogen and carbon stable isotope analysis was used to calculate community-wide trophic metrics and the degree of trophic overlap between native and non-native fish at both the community and functional feeding group level, together with diet composition. At the community level, there was a high degree of trophic niche overlap between native and non-native fish as a result of similarities in trophic characteristics. At the functional feeding group level, both native and non-native functional feeding groups demonstrated the capacity to occupy the niche space of each other. A significant trophic niche overlap, exceeding 50%, was found between non-native detritivorous and omnivorous fish, suggesting competition. The difference in diet composition between some native and non-native fish depended on the category of diet source across the rivers, suggesting dietary segregation. Albeit limited, the present findings suggest that trophic interaction between native and non-native fish is likely to reach a dynamic equilibrium status in the community owing to trophic segregation of fish species and the antagonistic effects amongst non-native fish.

Abstract Gut microbiota is related to host fitness, and influenced by geographical locations and habitats. Pomacea canaliculata is a malignant invasive alien snail that threatens agricultural production and ecosystem functions worldwide. Clarifying the general rules of the gut microbial community structure and function of the snails in different geographical locations and habitats is of great significance for understanding their invasion at different spatial scales. This study used high‐throughput sequencing technology to compare and analyze the differences in community structure and function of gut microbiota in P. canaliculata from five geographical locations (Liuzhou, Yulin, Nanning, Wuzhou, and Hezhou) and three different habitats (pond, paddy field, and ditch) in Guangxi Province. The results showed that intestinal microbial alpha diversity of P. canaliculata was higher in Liuzhou, Yulin, lower in Nanning, Wuzhou, Hezhou, and higher in ponds compared with paddy fields and ditches. The dominant phyla of gut microbiota in snails were Firmicutes, Cyanobacteria, Proteobacteria, Fusobacteriota, Bacteroidota, and the dominant genus was Lactococcus. The community structure of gut microbiota in snails varied significantly across different geographical locations and habitats, and the phyla Firmicutes, Cyanobacteria had significantly higher relative abundance in snails collected from Nanning and Yulin, respectively. Moreover, the relative abundance of gut functional microbiota associated with human disease in P. canaliculata was significantly affected by geographical locations and habitats, and with the highest abundance in ponds. However, the relative abundance of functional microbiota related to metabolism, genetic information processing, organizational system, environmental information processing, and cellular processes were only significantly affected by geographical locations. Collectively, geographical locations and habitats had significantly different effects on the community structure and function of gut microbiota in P. canaliculata, and the greater differences were caused by geographical locations rather than by habitats.

Abstract In the Anthropocene, non-native freshwater fish introductions and translocations have occurred extensively worldwide. However, their global distribution patterns and the factors influencing their establishment remain poorly understood. We analyze a comprehensive database of 14953 freshwater fish species across 3119 river basins and identify global hotspots for exotic and translocated non-native fishes. We show that both types of non-native fishes are more likely to occur when closely related to native fishes. This finding is consistent across measures of phylogenetic relatedness, biogeographical realms, and highly invaded countries, even after accounting for the influence of native diversity. This contradicts Darwin’s naturalization hypothesis, suggesting that the presence of close relatives more often signifies suitable habitats than intensified competition, predicting the establishment of non-native fish species. Our study provides a comprehensive assessment of global non-native freshwater fish patterns and their phylogenetic correlates, laying the groundwork for understanding and predicting future fish invasions in freshwater ecosystems.

[Objective] Pressure regulation systems, serving as one of the vital links between long-distance pipelines and urban gas pipeline networks, play a significant role in the successful implementation of the “Hydrogen Society” Program. However, the contrasting physical properties of hydrogen and natural gas impose challenges to the effectiveness of process control in pressure regulation. [Methods] This study employed a combined approach involving decompression and pressure regulation experiments conducted on pure hydrogen and hydrogen-enriched compressed natural gas(HCNG), along with dynamic simulations of pressure regulation. By establishing a foundation for assessing the pressure stabilization effect of the decompression and pressure regulation system, considering factors such as pressure stabilization accuracy, response time, and fitness function, a sensitivity analysis was performed to investigate the influence of various parameters, including hydrogen blending ratios, flow fluctuation cycles, downstream flow change ranges, pipeline transmission pressures, as well as proportional, integral, and derivative parameters(PID). [Results] The following results were obtained:(1) With more frequent disturbances, gas flow rates increased, leading to larger system fluctuation ranges. Consequently, achieving pressure stabilization became more challenging for the decompression and pressure regulation system. This finding highlighted the importance of restraining the movement of pure hydrogen and HCNG at high flow rates in transmission pipelines.(2) The flow rate of the pressure regulation system carried sinusoidal fluctuations. Setting the pressure stabilization accuracy at ±1.5% and the proportional and integral parameters within the range of 1 to 2, the decompression and pressure regulation experiments showed that the decompression and pressure regulation of pure hydrogen and HCNG could be substantially achieved within the required pressure range of urban gas pipelines.(3) Pure hydrogen exhibited greater instantaneous fluctuations compared to natural gas when flowing through pipelines at identical rates of transmission.As a consequence, the response time and adaptability function of the control system gradually increased with higher hydrogen blending ratios. Moreover, the instantaneous pressure fluctuation of pure hydrogen reached 1.15 times that of pure methane, resulting in a response time and adaptability function of the control system that increased to 1.13 and 2.68 times those of pure methane, respectively. Under the same proportional and integral parameters, it was more challenging to maintain the pressure stabilization for the hydrogen-containing gas. Hence, decreasing the integral parameter or increasing the proportional parameter proportionally to the hydrogen blending ratio is recommended, to attain the same or even better pressure stabilization effect as observed in natural gas scenarios. [Conclusion] The research findings provide theoretical insights to guide the pressure regulation practices of pipelines carrying pure hydrogen and HCNG.

Background:. With the popularity of liposuction surgery, more awareness should be obtained regarding complications. Liposuction has been thought of as a safe procedure with a very low incidence of major complications. However, life-threatening risks of liposuction have rarely been reported. Methods:. We present a case of a 36-year-old woman who developed cardiac arrest during a liposuction procedure, and we present a literature review. Results:. She was previously healthy and had no risk factors for pulmonary embolism. The diagnosis was made based on clinical presentation and the presence of an electrolyte disorder and a positive sign on computed tomography pulmonary angiogram (CTPA). Mild hypothermia treatment, symptomatic treatment, and supportive therapy were applied. As the respiratory and circulation were smooth, she was discharged to a rehabilitation hospital. Seven months after discharge, the patient was still in a coma with eye opening. Conclusions:. Spinal anesthesia, pulmonary embolism, and hyperkalemia are the most probable contributors to the cardiac arrest observed during the liposuction procedure in this specific case. There is a heightened imperative to vigilantly monitor for critical incidents during these operations and to meticulously identify associated risk factors during liposuction.

Abstract The aim of this study was to understand the dynamics of multidimensional poverty and its determinants among mid-aged and older adults. We used 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2018 data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. We utilised basic descriptive statistics, the poverty transition matrix, Kaplan–Meier estimates, and the discrete-time proportional hazards model for data analysis. From 2011 to 2018, the incidence of multidimensional poverty among mid-aged and older people basically decreased, but the average poverty intensity remained stable. Most mid-aged and older adults had transient multidimensional poverty. The longer an individual remained multidimensionally poor, the smaller the probability of exit from poverty; The longer an individual remained nonpoor after escaping from poverty, the smaller the probability of returning to poverty. As to other factors, individual characteristics, family structure, living arrangements, social capital, and living areas significantly affected the risks of multidimensional poverty exit and reentry. Based on these results, the government should implement targeted interventions for frail older adults with the identified characteristics to prevent them from persistent multidimensional poverty or return to poverty.

Abstract Understanding environmental DNA (eDNA) dynamics in the major developmental stages of fish species is fundamental for developing eDNA methods to aid conservation and management of fish species and/or populations. In this study, we used the model fish species, the rare minnow (Gobiocypris rarus), to assess the temporal changes of its mitochondrial and nuclear eDNA concentrations during its embryonic development in a culture dish experiment. Mitochondrial cytochrome b (Cytb) and nuclear internal transcribed spacer‐1 (ITS1), considered as representative DNA fragments, were amplified by quantitative PCR (qPCR). In this embryo culture trial, spikes in mitochondrial (mt‐) and nuclear (nu‐) eDNA concentrations were found just after egg fertilization and after embryo hatching, and a modest but positive relationship was found between the eDNA concentration and the number of hatched individuals, illustrating eDNA may be used to monitor the spawning and hatching events of externally fertilizing fishes. These findings provided basic information on eDNA dynamics during fish embryonic development and a new insight to design eDNA methods to monitor early developmental stages of fish species.

Using three varieties of Baccaurea ramiflora as raw material, the nutritional components of pericarp, pulp, and stone were respectively determined. The processing technology of B.ramiflora wine was investigated by single-factor experiments and orthogonal experiments. The results showed that the moisture and flavonoids contents on pericarp of the white pericarp B.ramiflora grown in Thailand the artificial cultivated B.ramiflora and the wild B.ramiflora grown in Kunming-Xishuangbanna were higher than 85% and 13.18 mg/g, respectively. The pericarp polyphenols and pulp polysaccharide of B.ramiflora artificially cultivated in Xishuangbanna were 46.95 mg/g and 743 mg/g, respectively. The Vitamin C content in pulp of Thailand varitywas 5.63 mg/100 g. The best conditions for fermentation were fermentation temperature of 27 ℃, fermentation time of 6 days, initial sugar concentration of 24 % vol, liquid-material ratio of 1∶1 (w/v) and yeast inoculation quantity of 0.2% (w/w). Under the optimum conditions, the alcohol content of B.ramiflora wine was 12.3%vol, sensory score was 86.5, DPPH free radical scavenging rate was 13.84 mg/mL, ferric ion reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) was 14.32 mg/mL, leading the wine to be intensely fruity with a refreshing aftertaste.

Objective forecast of maximum temperature is an important part in numerical weather prediction(NWP). The forecast uncertainty of near-surface meteorological elements is greater than that of upper atmospheric elements due to the impact of uncertainty in numerical forecasting models for sub-grid and boundary layer schemes.In recent years, meteorological observations expand rapidly, making traditional error correct method difficult to deal with the massive data. As a result, artificial intelligence has an increasingly obvious advantage in processing big data. Based on the fully connected neural network, four sensitivity experiments are designed in order to investigate the importance of auxiliary variable, time-lagged variable and the effectiveness of embedding layer in the neural network. The output products of high resolution(HRES) model of European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts(ECMWF) and the observations of basic meteorological elements of totally 2238 basic weather stations from 15 January 2015 to 31 December 2020 are employed. The training period is from 15 January 2015 to 31 December 2019, and the rest part is test period.The results show that the forecast error of daily maximum air temperature from the HRES in test period is reduced greatly by the sensitivity experiments, which add auxiliary variables, daily maximum air temperature with 1-2 lag days and embedding layer structures and their combination. The root mean square error is reduced by 29.72%-47.82% and the accuracy of temperature forecast are increased by 16.67%-38.89%, and the effects for Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is especially remarkable where the forecast error of HRES model is very high. It is preliminarily proved that the fully connected neural network with embedding layer has better overall performance than the raw fully connected neural network, and the features also affect the forecast errors and forecast skills of the model. Besides, the prediction error of neural network model with embedding layer is more stable when auxiliary variables and lag time variables are added. Positive forecasting techniques are available for almost all stations in the study, and it is possible to reduce the mean absolute error to less than 1℃ at many stations.

In order to solve the problem of imbalanced data classification,this paper proposes an AdaBoostv algorithm based on optimal margin.In this algorithm,the improved SVM is used as the base classifier,the margin mean term is introduced into the optimization model of SVM,and the margin mean term and loss function term are weighted by data imbalance ratio.The stochastic variance reduced gradient (SVRG) is used to solve the optimization model to improve the convergence rate.In the optimal margin AdaBoostv algorithm,a new adaptive cost sensitive function is introduced into the instance weight update formula,the minority instances,the misclassified instances and the borderline minority instances are assigned higher cost values.In addition,a new weight strategy of the base classifier is derived by combining the new weight formula and introducing the estimated value of the optimal margin under the given precision parameter v,so as to further improve the classification accuracy of the algorithm.The experimental results show that the classification accuracy of the AdaBoostv algorithm with optimal margin is better than other algorithms on imbalanced datasets in the case of linear and nonlinear,and it can obtain a larger minimum margin.

Abstract Environmental DNA (eDNA) techniques refer to utilizing the organisms’ DNA extracted from environment samples to genetically identify target species without capturing actual organisms. eDNA metabarcoding via high‐throughput sequencing can simultaneously detect multiple fish species from a single water sample, which is a powerful tool for the qualitative detection and quantitative estimates of multiple fish species. However, sequence counts obtained from eDNA metabarcoding may be influenced by many factors, of which primer bias is one of the foremost causes of methodological error. The performance of 18 primer pairs for COI, cytb, 12S rRNA, and 16S rRNA mitochondrial genes, which are all frequently used in fish eDNA metabarcoding, were evaluated in the current study. The ribosomal gene markers performed better than the protein‐coding gene markers during in silico screening, resulting in higher taxonomic coverage and appropriate barcode lengths. Four primer pairs—AcMDB07, MiFish‐U, Ve16S1, and Ve16S3—designed for various regions of the 12S and 16S rRNA genes were screened for tank metabarcoding in a case study targeting six freshwater fish species. The four primer pairs were able to accurately detect all six species in different tanks, while only MiFish‐U, Ve16S1, and Ve16S3 revealed a significant positive relationship between species biomass and read count for the pooled tank data. The positive relationship could not be found in all species within the tanks. Additionally, primer efficiency differed depending on the species while primer preferential species varied in different fish assemblages. This case study supports the potential for eDNA metabarcoding to assess species diversity in natural ecosystems and provides an alternative strategy to evaluate the performance of candidate primers before application of eDNA metabarcoding in natural ecosystems.

We describe a new species of cave-dwelling loach, Triplophysa wulongensis sp. nov., based on specimens collected in a subterranean pool in a cave in Wulong County, Chongqing, Southwest China. The pool is connected to the Wujiang River drainage. Triplophysa wulongensis differs from its congeners by the following combination of characters: eyes present, caudal fin with 18 branched rays; posterior chamber of the air bladder degenerate; stomach U-shaped; intestine without bends or loops immediately posterior to stomach; body smooth and scaleless, and lateral line complete. The mitochondrial cytochrome b sequence differs from those of other published sequences of species of Triplophysa by 14.9–24.9% in K2P distance. Phylogenetic analysis based on cytochrome b gene sequences recovered T. wulongensis as sister taxon to all other cave-dwelling species of Triplophysa.

Abstract Background Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours (MPNSTs) of the trachea are extremely uncommon neoplasms with unknown genetic and clinical profiles. Only individual cases have been reported in the literature to date. Case presentation Here, we present a rare case of a 61-year-old female patient with a primary MPNST of the trachea who complained of irritating cough and progressively increasing breathlessness for 4 weeks. This patient initially underwent intraluminal resection of the mass and was misdiagnosed with clear cell sarcoma. Less than a year later, the mass relapsed, and the obstructive symptoms reappeared and gradually worsened. Debulking of the endotracheal tumour mass was performed once again, and an MPNST was definitively diagnosed. Open sleeve tracheal resection and tracheoplasty were later performed with curative intent. This patient was alive without recurrence at her six-month postoperative follow-up. We also compared the clinical outcomes of previously reported cases of MPNSTs and our case. Conclusions This paper emphasizes that thoracic surgeons should be aware that malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours of the trachea can be misdiagnosed in clinical practice and must be included in the differential diagnosis of tracheal neoplasms.

Environmental DNA (eDNA) originates from cellular material shed by organisms into aquatic or terrestrial environments and can be sampled and monitored using metabarcoding technology, which is revolutionizing fish biodiversity monitoring. Several reviews concerning fish eDNA have focused on standard sampling methods and its applications, though a systematic review focused on marker genes, databases, and bioinformatic pipelines has not yet been published. Here, we present a comprehensive literature review of studies applying metabarcoding technology to fish eDNA for the purpose of fish biodiversity monitoring. We systematically provide the available universal primers used to amplify barcoding sequences from fish eDNA, and then discuss reference barcoding databases, relevant bioinformatic analyses, as well as developed pipelines. The performances of universal primers and their relevant reference databases are summarized. Combined use of multiple primer pairs targeted for more than one gene marker (e.g., 12S, 16S, Cytb, COI), and use of both local and public databases are recommended as approaches to improve the sensitivity and reliability of fish eDNA analyses. We also compare the effectiveness of eDNA metabarcoding to traditional approaches for monitoring fish biodiversity and highlight challenges and future perspectives associated with this new tool. Ultimately, we advocate for greater incorporation of eDNA analysis into fish biodiversity assessments to assist environmental managers.

Environmental DNA (eDNA) is a good indicator of fish diversity and distribution in aquatic environments. This study used metabarcoding to assess fish diversity and distribution in two connected ponds during two sampling periods. The eDNA analysis of surface samples displayed differences in the fish communities between the two connected ponds, while within each sampling site the species detected across the two time points were not always the same. These results revealed poor horizontal transport of eDNA between the two connected ponds alongside poor mixing of eDNA for a single pond’s stocked fish. Additionally, water temperature, pH, and total nitrogen were the key environmental factors affecting fish eDNA spatial and temporal distribution. These findings have important implications for designing eDNA sampling strategies in lentic ecosystems; for example, complete fish diversity in a lentic ecosystem cannot be detected by collecting only surface samples and in only one sampling period.

Aiming at the problem of low categorization accuracy and uneven distribution of the traditional text classification algorithms，a text classification algorithm based on deep learning has been put forward. Deep belief networks have very strong feature learning ability，which can be extracted from the high dimension of the original feature，so that the text classification can not only be considered，but also can be used to train classification model. The formula of TF-IDF is used to compute text eigenvalues，and the deep belief networks are used to construct the classifier. The experimental results show that compared with the commonly used classification algorithms such as support vector machine，neural network and extreme learning machine，the algorithm has higher accuracy and practicability，and it has opened up new ideas for the research of text classification.

BackgroundSkin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are a key antimicrobial stewardship target because they are a common infection in hospitalized patients, and non-guideline-concordant antibiotic use is frequent. To inform antimicrobial stewardship interventions, we evaluated the proportion of veterans hospitalized with SSTIs who received guideline-concordant empiric antibiotics or an appropriate total duration of antibiotics.MethodsA retrospective medication use evaluation was performed in 34 Veterans Affairs Medical Centers between 2016 and 2017. Hospitalized patients who received antibiotics for uncomplicated SSTI were included. Exclusion criteria were complicated SSTI, severe immunosuppression, and antibiotics for any non-SSTI indication. Data were collected by manual chart review. The primary outcome was the proportion of patients receiving both guideline-concordant empiric antibiotics and appropriate treatment duration, defined as 5-10 days of antibiotics. Data were analyzed and reported using descriptive statistics.ResultsOf the 3890 patients manually evaluated for inclusion, 1828 patients met inclusion criteria. There were 1299 nonpurulent (71%) and 529 purulent SSTIs (29%). Overall, 250 patients (14%) received guideline-concordant empiric therapy and an appropriate duration. The most common reason for non-guideline-concordance was receipt of antibiotics targeting methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in 906 patients (70%) with a nonpurulent SSTI. Additionally, 819 patients (45%) received broad-spectrum Gram-negative coverage, and 860 patients (48%) received an antibiotic duration >10 days.ConclusionsWe identified 3 common opportunities to improve antibiotic use for patients hospitalized with uncomplicated SSTIs: use of anti-MRSA antibiotics in patients with nonpurulent SSTIs, use of broad-spectrum Gram-negative antibiotics, and prolonged durations of therapy.

Jiangfangbaoxin (JFBX) has been used to attenuate essential hypertension (EH) for over 20 years. Here, we aimed to examine the blood composition and toxicological effects of JFBX using 40 and 10 male age-matched spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) and Wistar–Kyoto, respectively. After 12 weeks of intervention, blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy were measured. Subsequently, their organs were harvested for pathological examination. Ultra-high-performance liquid chromate- graphy with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry was used to explore the components of JFBX in blood. Low and high-doses of JFBX attenuated both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the SHRs. The high- and low-dose JFBX groups showed significantly reduced endothelin-1 and increased nitric oxide levels. The myocardial tissue levels of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-6 in the JFBX-high-dose group were significantly decreased. Furthermore, superoxide dismutase and malonaldehyde levels significantly increased and decreased, respectively. The toxicological results showed that JFBX did not cause particularly severe side effects when administered after 12 weeks. In total, 87 precursor compounds, including alkaloids, iridoid glycosides, flavonoids, siterpenoids, volatile components, and organic phenols/acids, were detected in the blood. JFBX attenuated EH. Sepsis is a severe infectious disease with high mortality. However, the indicators used to evaluate its severity and prognosis are relatively complicated. The systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI), a new inflammatory indicator, has shown good predictive value in chronic infection, stroke, and cancer. The purpose of this study was to investigate the connection between sepsis and SIRI and evaluate its predictive usefulness. A total of 401 patients with sepsis were included in this study. Multiple linear regression and logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the relationship between SIRI and sepsis. The restricted cubic spline (RCS) method was employed to illustrate the dose-response relationship. The area under the curve (AUC) and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate the prognostic value of SIRI. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between SIRI and both blood cell count and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score. Additionally, higher SIRI levels were significantly linked to a higher risk of sepsis worsening, according to logistic regression analysis. The RCS curve demonstrated that the risk of poor prognosis rose with increasing SIRI, particularly when SIRI exceeded 6.1. Furthermore, AUC and DCA results showed that SIRI had superior predictive value compared to traditional indicators. A higher SIRI is linked to a worse prognosis and more severe sepsis. SIRI may serve as a novel prognostic indicator in sepsis, though further clinical studies are necessary to confirm these findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
