Cutibacterium acnes est un germe de la flore commensale de la peau, responsable d'infections associées aux prothèses surtout au niveau de l'épaule. Il est extrêmement rare dans les arthrites septiques des membres inférieurs. Ce travail rapporte un cas d'arthrite septique du genou à C. acnes. Le diagnostic a été établi à partir des cultures d'enrichissement prolongées. Le but de ce travail est de mettre en exergue l'importance d'enrichir le liquide articulaire sur les flacons d'hémoculture, et de prolonger les cultures pendant au moins deux semaines afin d'augmenter la sensibilité diagnostique pour les germes atypiques, notamment C. acnes. It is extremely rare in septic arthritis of the lower limbs. This work reports a case of septic arthritis of the knee caused by C. acnes. The diagnosis was established from prolonged enrichment cultures. The aim of this work is to highlight the importance of enriching the joint fluid on blood culture bottles, and of extending the cultures for at least two weeks in order to increase diagnostic sensitivity for atypical germs, particularly C. acnes. Background: The various species of the Listeria genus are frequently isolated from food and drink products. They are classified into two categories according to their pathogenicity. Pathogenic species are frequently incriminated in infections of the elderly, immunocompromised and pregnant women. The Listeria grayi species is rarely isolated as a pathogen in human pathologies. We report a case of L. grayi meningitis in a polypathological patient. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing revealed resistance to ampicillin and susceptibility to Meropenem. Therapeutic failure was recorded despite in vitro sensitivity. Methods: Conventional biochemical test and Api Listeria gallery was used for identification of the isolate. Results: We report a case of L. grayi meningitis in a polypathological patient. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing revealed resistance to ampicillin and susceptibility to Meropenem. Therapeutic failure was recorded despite in vitro sensitivity. Conclusion: Given its infrequent reporting, Listeria grayi meningitis warrants consideration, especially in elderly patients with multiple pathologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: Multidrug-resistant bacteria urinary tract infections (MDR-UTI) are a global concern, leading to increased morbidity, mortality and financial costs. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of MDR-UTI and establish the epidemiological profile of UTI due to different phenotypes of MDR-UTI. Methodology and results: This is a retrospective study of MDR-UTI assessed at the microbiology laboratory of Mohammed VI University Hospital Center of Oujda over 37 months from March 2016 to April 2019. The study included all requests for cytobacteriological examination of urine (CBEU) according to the instructions of the medical microbiology guidelines. An agar medium was utilized for bacterial culture experimentation. Antibiotic susceptibility testing was performed according to the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing guidelines. CBEU in UTIs allowed the isolation of 1078 isolates. They were dominated by Gram-negative bacteria (87.65%; n=945), followed by Gram-positive bacteria for 12.34% (n=133). This included 181 (16.80%) multidrug-resistant strains, which were dominated by extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (ESBL-E) (n=144; 79.55%). Young male adults exhibited a higher occurrence of isolated ESBL-E and carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB). As for the distribution by department, there was a near equality between the MDR isolates isolated from outpatients (n= 88; 49%) versus the inpatients (n= 93; 51%). Exactly 152 (84%) isolated MDR cases were observed in patients who did not have a urinary catheter, 157 (87%) and 141 (78%) cases of MDR of UTI were not associated with care and occurred in non-immunocompromised patients, respectively. Prior antibiotic exposure was observed in only 58 (32%) cases. Conclusion, significance and impact of study: This study confirmed the increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant urinary tract infections in the community and hospitals. Background: Urinary tract infection, defined as the presence of bacteria or yeast in the urinary tract, is the most common community-acquired infection after respiratory infections. The cytobacteriological examination of urine (CBEU) remains the primary diagnostic test for urinary tract infections and is the most frequently conducted test in microbiology laboratories. Direct examination is a crucial step of CBEU, enabling the assessment of cytology, including leukocytes and red blood cells, as well as the identification of crystals, epithelial cells, and microorganisms when present in significant quantities. This examination also provides preliminary results that can guide clinical decision-making. While the standard method for urine cytology is a microscopic examination, automation offers several advantages, including standardized results with higher repeatability, improved reproducibility, increased sample throughput, and seamless data transfer to laboratory information systems., Objectives: This study aimed to compare the performance of two automated urine cytology systems: Sysmex UF-1000i and the Beckman Coulter DxU 850 Iris., Methods: We described the methodology and technology underlying each system and assessed their analytical performance. The UF-1000i uses flow cytometry for the objective characterization and identification of particles based on forward scattering, fluorescence, and adaptive typing analysis.
