SENSE organs ,SENSORY perception ,ACADEMIC discourse ,ENGLISH language ,DOCTORAL students - Abstract
The article is devoted to an overview of the problematic aspects of teaching academic writing in a foreign (English) language. The identified problems are illustrated by the results of an analysis of English-language scientific works of master and doctoral students. The work highlights the causes of difficulties and possible ways to resolve them. One of the most important elements of cognitive cycle is perception. Sensory perception polymodal: there are five modes of perception, but they are used to varying degrees. A person learns about the richness of the surrounding world thanks to five external sense organs: sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. Through the organs feelings, we receive, select and accumulate information that enters brain. This article proves information about cognitive and linguopragmatic problems of perception verbs in English and Uzbek languages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] more...

LINGUISTIC models ,COMMUNICATION models - Abstract
Scenic communication does not only appear in drama and theater, but also within specialized or professional communication. For this reason, a model of communication in drama and theater is first taken up here, which in turn is based on a simple model of linguistic or specialized communication. Following this, scenic communication in specialized communication is recorded and described using a few more or less prototypical examples. Three types are distinguished, which can be supplemented by further constellation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] more...

From the era of Grammar-Translation Method to the onset of Communicative Language Teaching, the role of translation in language learning has completely changed. Nowadays, the use of translation activities in the language learning classroom remains a contentious issue, namely, there are arguments for and against their use. Given that attitudes are one of the factors that affect the way students learn and the level of proficiency they achieve, the aim of this quantitative study is to find out what the attitudes of higher education students in Croatia are towards the use of translation in learning languages for specific purposes. The responses were collected via a questionnaire, which was completed by 618 students who were enrolled in eight different LSP courses, i.e. medical, maritime, business, agriculture, tourism, safety, IT and transport. The participants come from five institutions of higher education in two Croatian towns (Zagreb and Rijeka). The majority of the respondents (86.4%) claim they use translation in their LSP classroom, but the frequency in using translation varies greatly. On the other hand, translation is used in assessment less frequently, 37.4% of the participants state they have encountered translation in tests. While they believe that other more communicative methods are more beneficial for their language learning, and they only partially enjoy doing translation activities, most of them are sure that translating both from their L1 into L2 and L2 into L1 is very useful for their language learning, especially when it comes to learning new vocabulary. A statistical difference occurred between genders; namely, male students seem to be more positive towards translation. Also, statistical differences were confirmed among students of different study programs in relation to their attitudes towards enjoyment, usefulness and demand of translation activities. Future research should focus on investigating how translation activities are implemented and account for gender and study program differences. more...

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has profoundly affected the educational sector, prompting rapid and unforeseen changes that have significantly altered both the working environments of educators and students and the methodologies for knowledge dissemination and acquisition. In response, language educators have increasingly explored pedagogical strategies that actively involve students in content creation. Consequently, various tasks incorporating project-based learning and other student-engagement techniques have been integrated as standard components of language instruction. This article seeks to examine the potential benefits of implementing a WebQuest within an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course. It presents an in-depth analysis of a study conducted with participants of an academic language course, focusing on the efficacy of WebQuests in enhancing specific EAP skills. more...

Introduction. The problem of effective teaching language for special purposes (LSP) to the students of non-linguistic professions has been discussed for a long time and in full details by academicians both in Russia and foreign countries. As the result of multiple and thorough surveys general problems of the given situation have been revealed, the way out being defined as special training/retraining of LSP teachers. But in language education publications it is hardly possible to find the description of the program aiming at the training of the above mentioned teachers. The aim of the article is to present effective approaches to teaching LSP and offer the developed master program “Methods of teaching LSP” as a means to solve the problems mentioned above. Materials and Methods. The research methods used are a combination of analytical review of studies by Russian and foreign researchers and interpretation of the results obtained by interviewing university teachers specializing in teaching foreign languages to students completing Bachelorʼs or Masterʼs degree programs. The survey was conducted to assess the level of readiness of professional educators to design the structure and content of programs for teaching LSP, and actually conduct classes within the specified language-teaching area, 81 teachers being responders. Results. As a result of the undertaken review of theoretical works and analysis of the conducted survey a master program “Methods of teaching LSP” was designed for training graduates who will then teach English or Russian as a foreign language at industry-specific higher schools. The developed program focuses on instructing future LSP educators to work out a personalized educational route adjusted to the level of foreign language skills of a student and their prospective professional activities. Discussion and Conclusion. The master program developed by the authors as well as the content of the subjects suggested as its integral part are expected to become a productive way of training LSP educators who are supposed to acquire a number of special skills and competences described in the article. Distant learning and e-learning technologies are also engaged in the program to facilitate learners’ more efficient independent activities. The master program is seen as one of the means of modernizing LSP teachers’ professional training which meets the long-term needs of the Russian education system. more...

One of the major challenges for any L2 teacher is to integrate vocabulary components into a course. Determining what words to select in order to satisfy the goals of the course and what instructional methodology best suits the purpose of vocabulary learning are not easy tasks. Even more difficult is dealing with the formulaic terminology of a domain-specific vocabulary that students have not previously encountered. In this paper, I describe a criminalistics module within a Legal Spanish course that has a mock trial as a final assignment. In order to learn the terminology for the final assignment, incidental vocabulary learning through reading, watching a movie, and listening to a talk was seen as complementary, but not sufficient. Instead, intentional vocabulary learning has proven more effective because it reinforces retention of novel vocabulary and leads to its eventual production in the final task. more...

ACADEMIC language ,LEARNING strategies ,COMMUNICATION strategies ,LANGUAGE & languages ,ACADEMIA - Abstract
CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning) is defined as the integration of specific content with language learning objectives. In higher education, it refers to the simultaneous teaching of academic content and language skills in a given language. The core concept revolves around the use of a second/foreign language to acquire knowledge, while concurrently enhancing language skills and vocabulary, including the acquisition of new specialist terms. Developing the lexical subsystem as an integral component of linguistic competence is particularly important in the process of linguistic reception and production. Vocabulary learning strategies prove invaluable in this context. The discussion on strategies of learning lexis in a foreign language appeared in the academic literature at the end of the last century. Previously, this was addressed in research on learning strategies and communication strategies. In academia, knowledge of professional vocabulary and terminology is indispensable for mastering specialist content taught in a second language. Learners must not only grasp the meaning of concepts, but also employ them with precision. So how do students learn new specialist vocabulary, and which vocabulary learning strategies do they use? This article aims to present the results of my own research on the application of specialized vocabulary learning strategies by students of economic sciences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] more...

LANGUAGE teachers ,JOB applications ,LABOR market ,NONFORMAL education ,ADULT education workshops - Abstract
The importance of foreign language skills has increased in the labor market in recent years. A 2012 survey in Poland shows that effective communication and language skills are the most important skills sought from job applicants. It is therefore not surprising that private language schools and companies are offering more and more foreign language courses for professional purposes. In the context of thinking about informal learning of a language for specific purposes (LSP), it is worth reflecting on how a LSP teacher is prepared for work. It seems that attending workshops or practical training should be part of the repertoire of enhancing the professional competence of LSP teachers. However, discussions with experienced language teachers reveal that the reality is quite different. Therefore, given the growing demand for specialized language courses, diagnosis and discussion of the difficulties faced by LSP teachers is of academic relevance. The first part of this article presents a pilot study conducted in 2023 among LSP teachers. Following this, the difficulties of teaching professional languages will be presented. The last part refers to the presentation of methods, techniques and forms of work that can improve the methodological repertoire of LSP teachers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] more...

This study aims to investigate the English-speaking ability of the high and low-proficiency youth guides after studying English for Community-based Tourism at Khokkrachai blended lessons and examine their use of total and individual learning strategies in these blended lessons. The sample group consists of 32 youth guides who were secondary students from Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. They were selected by using a cluster random sampling technique. The instruments included an English for Community-based Tourism Youth Guides blended lesson, a speaking test and the rating scale, a language learning strategies questionnaire and a coding scheme. Means, standard deviations, paired- samples t-test and content analysis were used in data analysis. Results from the study showed that the performance of the high- and low-proficiency youth guides ' groups had a significant difference between pre- and post-tests in both the total and six speaking aspect scores at the . 00 level. The scores of both groups significantly improved. The results also indicated that the youth guides always used their learning strategies to learn during the three blended lessons. The high-proficiency youth guides utilised each language learning strategy in more meaningful, systematic, sophisticated and holistic ways than the low-proficiency youth guides. These results yielded insightful and substantive data about the instruction of language learning strategies in English within a specific field, English for community-based tourism with blended learning in Thailand. The unbreakable bond between language and scientific thought has incarnated into a special way of using general language, which we call language for specific purposes. It is thanks to this language that articulation of observations, conceptual and semantic constitution of scientific fields and exchange of new knowledge are possible. Language for specific purposes is not a new system of signs, rather it uses all the linguistic resources contained within general language, from which it is inseparable. Its peculiarity lies in the frequency and the specific ways of using lexicon and morphosyntactic structures, especially the ones which help it approach the ideal of precision and brevity of expression. In the first part of the paper, in addition to the detailed definition of the concept of language for specific purposes, we analyze which language is necessary for scientific purposes, whether or not scientists understand one another and if there are any universal characteristics of language for specific purposes. The second part of the paper is devoted to a smaller study with the goal of questioning some general traits of the language of archeology, performed on a group of abstracts originally written in the Serbian language. more...

The aim of this article is to investigate student perception of distance learning in "French for diplomats", as well as to observe whether and to what extent recent developments in virtual learning environments in language learning have proven effective and may have promoted international collaboration. The study, carried out in 2021/2022 at the Institute of Romance Studies of the University of Warsaw, revealed that a significant proportion of students with experience of the "French for diplomats" distance course are very satisfied with the virtual courses. After observing the encouraging reactions of learners during the course, we decided to carry out our research on their experiences. We started from the premise that distance learning of the language for specific purposes could be beneficial to the learning process. Our reflections focused mainly on building intercultural competence, but also on the changing representations of the profession of diplomat and, consequently, on the opportunities that virtual courses open. It was found that the shift from face-to-face to digital has given teachers new tools and modalities that enrich the quality of the lesson. The teaching of specialized languages such as "French for diplomats" can nowadays include videoconferencing with a diplomat based in Guatemala or Brussels. Thus, the abandonment of face-toface lessons has given back pedagogical freedom and helped teachers look for original solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] more...

- Abstract
This article explores the language-proficiency levels required in traditional upper-division university courses in Latin. It introduces a research framework to Classics called "domain analysis" and analyzes upper-division Latin at one university to determine the target functional outcomes for students in lower-division courses. The article finds that traditional upper-division Latin requires philological skills that are not described under widely used descriptions of language proficiency, but that these courses also require a reading proficiency corresponding to "advanced high" in the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Proficiency Guidelines , as well as a limited degree of listening and pronunciation ability. A lower-division curriculum that integrates active Latin techniques with those drawn from multiliteracies and grammar-translation pedagogies may be best suited to achieving these proficiencies. A teacher of a foreign language (FL) obtains his/her professional training during a higher education course in philology, where he/she follows a training program focused on "learning outcomes that include knowledge and skills corresponding to all the requirements of the core curriculum of the taught subject or the core curriculum of education in the profession, respectively, or the content of the classes taught" (Journal of Laws 2019, item 1450). From the this provision it should be concluded that FL teachers work in various educational institutions and with audiences of different profiles and needs, including professional ones. The article describes the scope and forms of FL/LSP teacher education in Poland, based on the results of a qualitative analysis of teacher education programs implemented in 2017-2020 at 22 Polish universities. On the basis of a general model of professional communication which differs from concepts of professional language, a new model is developed which consistently integrates their multilingualism. This takes into account various individual languages such as German, English or Chinese as well as professionally relevant varieties such as every day and educational language including various languages for specific purposes in individual professions or professional contexts as well as the corresponding competences of the people working in these professions or contexts. Such a model not only provides an exhaustive and detailed coverage of plurilingual professional communication for itself, it also allows for numerous applications in the fields of language planning, language policy and language didactics. Research has shown that language barriers can impede access to healthcare and impact healthcare outcomes. Traditional Spanish courses have been criticized for not effectively addressing learners’ specific needs, while Language for Specific Purposes (LSP) courses on healthcare frequently lack a credible methodological foundation. The current study uses a Task Based Language Teaching (TBLT) framework to conduct a needs analysis exploring the most vital Spanish language needs of nurses while also evaluating the effectiveness of previous language teaching in satisfying those needs. Surveys and interviews among 45 nurses and advanced nursing students show that the majority of participants recognized a need for healthcare-based Spanish instruction. The analysis uncovered specific linguistic features and real-world tasks designated as essential needs for nurses. more...

For decades, professional healthcare schools have invested considerable time and resources into the development and implementation of medical Spanish courses. However, most (if not all) of these courses and programs were developed without significant input from experts in the fields of applied linguistics and second language acquisition (SLA). This resulted in programs and courses which differ in every conceivable way, most notably in course objectives, course content, and assessment measures. Despite multiple calls by applied linguists over the years, there has never been a systematic evaluation of medical Spanish programs through the lens of applied linguistics. The literature to date also demonstrates a near-complete absence of collaboration between medical school faculty, applied linguists, and language teachers, furthering the divide between what is now well-documented in the applied linguistics and SLA literature and the reported classroom practices in the medical Spanish context. This article begins by contextualizing the development of medical Spanish courses under a backdrop of a critical need for multilingual medical professionals to better address documented healthcare disparities for Low English Proficiency (LEP) Spanish speakers, a steadily growing population in the United States. Then, the article introduces Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) as an opportunity for unprecedented collaboration between healthcare practitioners, medical Spanish course instructors, and applied linguists to improve medical Spanish curricular offerings. It goes on to identify specific opportunities for collaboration between medical Spanish professionals (instructors, course designers, program administrators) and applied linguists by highlighting three major areas for further development in the medical Spanish context. This collaboration would result in a pedagogical framework strongly rooted in applied linguistics research findings with direct, measurable impacts on both L2 Spanish learners in medical Spanish courses and the patients they will serve. Based on identified opportunities for curricular and programmatic improvement in published medical Spanish course reports, this article provides a rationale for TBLT as well as an overview of the process of TBLT course development. This detailed overview of TBLT course development with specific reference to the medical Spanish context presents an argument for the adoption of TBLT as an evidence-based and pedagogically viable alternative to current course offerings in medical Spanish programs. This article aims to identify a clear path forward to enable medical school program administrators and course and curriculum designers to take concrete steps to align courses with current best practices in second language pedagogy in order to optimize Spanish learning outcomes for their programs' specific students. The aim of this meta-analysis is to take a small step forward from the separate observation of the self-regulatory construct and the relationship of variables that seek to explain it, define its structure more clearly and make it available in practice. For this purpose, the question arises regarding the relationship between personality traits and motivation as variables, which are shown in a number of studies as important for self-regulation in terms of its contribution to success in mastering a foreign language (L2). As mentioned, meta-analysis was used as a method. The selection of studies included in the meta-analysis is as follows: Out of 175 research papers dealing with the topic of self-regulation in learning L2 that covered 49.821 students, 17 papers were selected in the second round, which covered 4.263 students who were academically gifted and learned L2. In the third step of selection, only three papers remained, which could be compared by characteristics (goals, sample, variables, respondents…), and which examined issues relevant to this paper, i.e. the relationship between personality traits, motivation to learn L2 and achievements in a language for specific purposes. The total number of respondents was 1.263, with 711 of them being academically gifted students who were learning a Language for Specific Purposes (LSP). The theoretical context of the research is the Self-Determination Theory, i.e., an understanding of the spontaneous development of the individual's predispositions (intrinsic motivation and internalization) when basic psychological needs are met in the function of interpersonal dynamics and social settings (Deci & Ryan, 1985) and Sternberg's Theory of Mental Self-Government. Previous reflections and comparisons with theoretical assumptions and research findings are partly the basis for answering the questions posed in this analysis, as they provide a framework for understanding the structure of the self-regulatory construct. Thus, the quest for the state of relations between the observed variables, which are important for self-regulation and sufficient to formulate a model of self-regulation, did not provide sufficient indications that they could be considered safe in assessing the effects of defining self-regulation constructs. Also, the relationships between the gifted and others were researched, starting from the observation of the relationship between personality traits and motivation. The intention was to determine how many personality traits have proven to be good predictors for self-regulation of learning (success - average and in L2) of gifted and other students. Related to the above is the observation of the issue of their mutual relationship and scope in terms of their predictive value for opportunities to encourage the gifted and other students to realize achievements in learning a language for specific purposes. Thus, it could be concluded, that the dimensions of motivation generally achieve correlations of the highest intensity with Intellect and Agreeableness, while relations with other dimensions are somewhat weaker. This supports the conclusion that Intellect and Agreeableness as personality traits are important for the construct of self-regulation, and supports the aforementioned theoretical positions of Sternberg within the Theory of Mental Self-Government, for which these findings are only the initial step, indicating that it would be worth going in that direction. more...

The paper is devoted to the principles of compiling a bilingual dictionary of investment terms. In the article, a preparatory stage of thesaurus modeling, including analysis of methodological base and identification of methods, is described. According to the parametric approach underlying the creation of a thesaurus, a number of key parameters of dictionary structures is identified. Background. The terminology system in the field of the investment activity on the equity market is constantly and intensively updated with new terms. The lack of such type of dictionaries, which are essential for linguists, translators and other professionals in linguistics as well as investors and traders, makes the compiling of the dictionary quite relevant. Purpose. Identification and description of principles and stages of compiling a bilingual dictionary of investment terms. Materials and methods. The materials for the study include financial market articles and reviews, fund platforms vocabulary as well as legal documents, governing investments on the stock market. Research methods include continuous sampling method, comparative method and stratification method. Results. The algorithm for practical stage of working with linguistic material on the example of modeling a dictionary entry of specified dictionary, which describes the term “Stock market index”, is presented. Practical implications. The practical significance of the research results lies in the possibility of using described principles and stage of compiling a thesaurus as well as a dictionary entry for compiling other dictionaries by linguists and translators. more...

The second decade of the 20th century has been characterized by the reconsideration in linguistics on the role of the metaphor and the metonymy in the everyday language and in the specialized languages. Furthermore, the evolution of terminology made possible to leave behind the Wüsterian tradition, which considered these rhetorical figures as an ornamental element, and it has allowed to provide a new perspective of their role in the knowledge transmission. This paper is focused on the study of wine tasting discourse in a multifaceted perspective, considering lexical, morphosyntactic and pragmatic factors. Finally, this study concludes that wine tasting discourse is a language for specific purposes, whose primary role is to transmit objective information in a highly subjective process as wine tasting, which is characterized by terminological gaps. In order to avoid these gaps and to create specialized terms which could be shared by a community of users, wine tasters make use of metaphorization processes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] more...

Growing globalization and continuous demographic changes impose the need for reviewing language programs that must follow modern trends and the needs of students that change in accordance with the requirements of the professional environment, both in the country and abroad. The development of language competencies, especially in the field of language for specific purposes, is a prerequisite for the success of a modern young man, thus giving him the opportunity to be competitive and functional both in education and in future professional activities. The theoretical part of this paper relies on the interpretations of basic postulates about learning English for General purposes and learning English for Specific Purposes, and discusses the importance of developing language competence in teaching English in the context of acquiring professional competencies of students in higher vocational education. The paper also gives an overview of the way in which all four language skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking) are developed in teaching of ELSP at Belgrade Business Academy for Applied Studies. The aim of this paper is to present the results of research concerning the needs and interests of students in higher vocational education in terms of learning ELSP, as well as to analyze students' attitudes about which language skills should be improved in teaching of ELSP, in order to approach the development of study programs and materials properly. The authors conducted empirical research with the use of a questionnaire as a research instrument. The analysis of data collected on a sample of one hundred students of Belgrade Business Academy for Applied Studies is seen in the context of further development of the curriculum of English language for specific purposes in higher vocational education. more...

The paper presents an innovative "text-and-context" teaching methodology applied to develop multiple language and professional competencies in the LSP university classroom. We take the established principles of Directed Communicative Modelling (Dressen-Hammouda, 2003) and implement them into an LSP course for Optometrists, which is a three-year Bachelor Program of Applied (Vocational) Studies offered by the Physics Department at the Faculty of Sciences in Novi Sad. The presented LSP course for optometrists constitutes the following language segments: medical English, occupational English, technical English, and English for academic purposes, with a complex range of contextual specifications attached. Consequently, the present approach relies as much on building contextual knowledge as it does on building language and textual competencies. Having a specialized language competence is therefore principally about learning to manipulate and creatively and inventively recreate language structure within a proper context attached to its use. The power of the proposed teaching methodology lies in its potential constructing of the wide range of specialized knowledge structures involved in professional language communicative situations. The aim of the present study is twofold: to describe and explain a localized and recontextualized version of Directed Communicative Modelling, which is a largely Anglo-Saxon teaching practice, in the Serbian university system and to report on the defined practical outcomes of such an approach for the course where the main learning objectives for the students include (among others) the full capacity for independent professional work in the field of optics and optometry and reading the relevant literature in English as well as conducting academic and professional research. We conclude that, as a principled and defined teaching strategy, Directed Communicative Modelling integrates assumptions about both linguistic and social conditions for specialized discourses while aiming to get students to understand how to best use language as an effective and powerful textual and contextual tool. more...

Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTACs) direct close-air-support during NATO operations, however, non-native speaker JTACs struggle to meet the NATO English proficiency requirement. This paper examines the effects of including more "military flavour" (Green & Wall, 2005) in the oral proficiency interview (OPI) for JTACs, developed in accordance with NATO Standardisation Agreement (STANAG) 6001. The new test format, called the "OPI+" included linguistic tasks associating military content domains with the linguistic functions traditionally elicited in the OPI, allowing for comparisons to be made between the two. The test was tried on the Norwegian JTAC selection course (N = 25). Test-taker performance was holistically rated in accordance with STANAG 6001, and candidate output on four OPI+ tasks later transcribed and analysed using discourse analytic measures. Findings suggest that while adding more professional flavour to the test of speaking will improve face validity, test-takers' qualitative and quantitative performance will not be significantly affected, as long as the language functions elicited remain the same. Moreover, when it comes to testing the professional language JTACs need in the target language use situation, the standard STANAG 6001 OPI test format apparently leaves something to be desired. • Effects of including military content in an oral proficiency interview were measured. • Discourse analytic measures were performed in addition to holistic ratings. • A general proficiency rating scale was used. • Inclusion of professional, domain-specific content increased face validity. • Professional, domain-specific content did not improve qualitative performance. The paper studies the structure and semantics of English-language accounting terminology through a close examination of The Company Act, the official legal document regulating the establishment and operation of India's commercial companies. The study aims to explore specific terminology occurring in accounting and audit books in the economic discourse, as well as to identify and analyse culture-marked terminology in the chosen field of study. Study results were used to compile a glossary of commonly used accounting terms constituting a part of a unified terminological system. The author has systemised the main notional classes of accounting terminology thus demonstrating its structural nature in English economic discourse, the semantic organisation and conceptual framework of the field-specific terminology system. Implementing the project-based approach in telecollaborative environments seems to be helpful in the foreign language classroom. This research aims to analyze the perception of students on the need to communicate internationally following the classification of the most usual communicative situations proposed by Lehman and DuFrene (2013). To this purpose, an experiment was implemented among students from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) during the spring term in the schoolyear 2020/21. Students from both universities worked virtually in mixed international teams on their projects to create blogs on the topic 'Sustainable development today’. Our results showed that students from both institutions enhanced their confidence in communicating in professional and academic contexts during the completion of this project. Participants improved their communicative competence in international online environments, and this virtual exhange experience helped them develop their digital and intercultural skills, among others. The value of this research is the implementation of a telecollaborative project work in the foreign language classroom aiming at helping students communicate in a global context about technical issues, such as sustainability. more...

- Abstract
The Spanish future subjunctive (FS) demonstrates how linguistics can inform modern language policy. The FS is described as an archaism to be eliminated from contemporary legal texts. We analyze a corpus of over 3000 tokens of the FS in Spanish legal texts dated between the 13th and 16th century. The FS has two functions in legal discourse. The casuistic function allows for indicating paradigmatic subordination; the forwarding function introduces new information. Our quantitative results suggest an increase in the usage frequency of the FS in legal discourse, where an inverse trend appears in other genres. As shown by a linear regression analysis, the FS started appearing significantly closer to the beginning of the law article, indicating an increase in the forwarding function in time. In view of our results, reformers of legal Spanish should consider the functions of the FS in legal discourse when advising its suppression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] more...
