Type locality Tete, Mozambique . Distribution southern Sudan [now probably South Sudan], southern Somalia, coastal Kenya and southwards to northeastern Natal and northern Botswana; westwards through Chad to southwestern Nigeria; southwestwards to Angola and the Okavango Delta (Brown 1980: 54, 1994: 63); also South Africa and Zimbabwe (Connolly 1939: 555), and Madagascar, teste Starmhlner (1969: 118), though not Fischer & Vukadinovic (1974: 349). Remarks. Name attributed to Peters by Troschel but Khler & Glaubrecht (2006: 208) considered that Peters was only the collector. By designating the lectotype, Khler & Glaubrecht (2006: 208) restricted the type locality to Tete, although paralectotypes are also from Sena. Valid species, teste G.B. Sowerby III (1916: 67), who placed it in Lanistes s. str., and Pilsbry & Bequaert (1927: 196), Brown (1980: 52, 1994: 62) and Berthold (1991: 246), who all placed it in Lanistes subg. Meladomus., Published as part of Cowie, Robert H., 2015, The recent apple snails of Africa and Asia (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Ampullariidae: Afropomus, Forbesopomus, Lanistes, Pila, Saulea): a nomenclatural and type catalogue.
