From fundamental studies of light-matter interaction to applications in quantum networking and sensing, cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) provides a platform-crossing toolbox to control interactions between atoms and photons. The coherence of such interactions is determined by the product of the single-pass atomic absorption and the number of photon round-trips. Reducing the cavity loss has enabled resonators supporting nearly 1-million optical roundtrips at the expense of severely limited optical material choices and increased alignment sensitivity. The single-pass absorption probability can be increased through the use of near-concentric, fiber or nanophotonic cavities, which reduce the mode waists at the expense of constrained optical access and exposure to surface fields. Here we present a new high numerical-aperture, lens-based resonator that pushes the single-atom-single-photon absorption probability per round trip close to its fundamental limit by reducing the mode size at the atom below a micron while keeping the atom mm-to-cm away from all optics. This resonator provides strong light-matter coupling in a cavity where the light circulates only ~ 10 times. We load a single 87Rb atom into such a cavity, observe strong coupling, demonstrate cavity-enhanced atom detection with imaging fidelity of 99.55(6) percent and survival probability of 99.89(4) percent in 130 microseconds, and leverage this new platform for a time-resolved exploration of cavity cooling. The resonator's loss-resilience paves the way to coupling of atoms to nonlinear and adaptive optical elements and provides a minimally invasive route to readout of defect centers. Introduction of intra-cavity imaging systems will enable the creation of cavity arrays compatible with Rydberg atom array computing technologies, vastly expanding the applicability of the cavity QED toolbox.

Evaluating text summarization has been a challenging task in natural language processing (NLP). Automatic metrics which heavily rely on reference summaries are not suitable in many situations, while human evaluation is time-consuming and labor-intensive. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes a novel method based on large language models (LLMs) for evaluating text summarization. We also conducts a comparative study on eight automatic metrics, human evaluation, and our proposed LLM-based method. Seven different types of state-of-the-art (SOTA) summarization models were evaluated. We perform extensive experiments and analysis on datasets with patent documents. Our results show that LLMs evaluation aligns closely with human evaluation, while widely-used automatic metrics such as ROUGE-2, BERTScore, and SummaC do not and also lack consistency. Autonomous drone navigation faces a critical challenge in achieving accurate landings on dynamic platforms, especially under unpredictable conditions such as wind turbulence. Our research introduces TornadoDrone, a novel Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) model that adopts bio-inspired mechanisms to adapt to wind forces, mirroring the natural adaptability seen in birds. This model, unlike traditional approaches, derives its adaptability from indirect cues such as changes in position and velocity, rather than direct wind force measurements. TornadoDrone was rigorously trained in the gym-pybullet-drone simulator, which closely replicates the complexities of wind dynamics in the real world. Through extensive testing with Crazyflie 2.1 drones in both simulated and real windy conditions, TornadoDrone demonstrated a high performance in maintaining high-precision landing accuracy on moving platforms, surpassing conventional control methods such as PID controllers with Extended Kalman Filters. The study not only highlights the potential of DRL to tackle complex aerodynamic challenges but also paves the way for advanced autonomous systems that can adapt to environmental changes in real-time. The Internet of Things has experienced significant growth and has become an integral part of various industries. This expansion has given rise to the Industrial IoT initiative where industries are utilizing IoT technology to enhance communication and connectivity through innovative solutions such as data analytics and cloud computing. However this widespread adoption of IoT is demanding of algorithms that provide better efficiency for the same training environment without speed being a factor. In this paper we present a novel approach called G Federated Proximity. Building upon the existing FedProx technique our implementation introduces slight modifications to enhance its efficiency and effectiveness. By leveraging FTL our proposed system aims to improve the accuracy of model obtained after the training dataset with the help of normalization techniques such that it performs better on real time devices and heterogeneous networks Our results indicate a significant increase in the throughput of approximately 90% better convergence compared to existing model performance.

Gender bias in machine translation (MT) sys- tems poses a significant challenge to achieving accurate and inclusive translations. This paper examines gender bias in machine translation systems for languages such as Telugu and Kan- nada from the Dravidian family, analyzing how gender inflections affect translation accuracy and neutrality using Google Translate and Chat- GPT. It finds that while plural forms can reduce bias, individual-centric sentences often main- tain the bias due to historical stereotypes. The study evaluates the Chain of Thought process- ing, noting significant bias mitigation from 80% to 4% in Telugu and from 40% to 0% in Kan- nada. It also compares Telugu and Kannada translations, emphasizing the need for language specific strategies to address these challenges and suggesting directions for future research to enhance fairness in both data preparation and prompts during inference., Comment: 6 pages

In this paper, we introduce a novel category of central compact schemes inspired by existing cell-node and cell-centered compact finite difference schemes, that offer a superior spectral resolution for solving the dispersive wave equation. In our approach, we leverage both the function values at the cell nodes and cell centers to calculate third-order spatial derivatives at the cell nodes. To compute spatial derivatives at the cell centers, we employ a technique that involves half-shifting the indices within the formula initially designed for the cell-nodes. In contrast to the conventional compact interpolation scheme, our proposed method effectively sidesteps the introduction of transfer errors. We employ the Taylor-series expansion-based method to calculate the finite difference coefficients. By conducting systematic Fourier analysis and numerical tests, we note that the methods exhibit exceptional characteristics such as high order, superior resolution, and low dissipation. Data protection and privacy is becoming increasingly crucial in the digital era. Numerous companies depend on third-party vendors and service providers to carry out critical functions within their operations, encompassing tasks such as data handling and storage. However, this reliance introduces potential vulnerabilities, as these vendors' security measures and practices may not always align with the standards expected by regulatory bodies. Businesses are required, often under the penalty of law, to ensure compliance with the evolving regulatory rules. Interpreting and implementing these regulations pose challenges due to their complexity. Regulatory documents are extensive, demanding significant effort for interpretation, while vendor-drafted privacy policies often lack the detail required for full legal compliance, leading to ambiguity. To ensure a concise interpretation of the regulatory requirements and compliance of organizational privacy policy with said regulations, we propose a Large Language Model (LLM) and Semantic Web based approach for privacy compliance. In this paper, we develop the novel Privacy Policy Compliance Verification Knowledge Graph, PrivComp-KG. It is designed to efficiently store and retrieve comprehensive information concerning privacy policies, regulatory frameworks, and domain-specific knowledge pertaining to the legal landscape of privacy. Using Retrieval Augmented Generation, we identify the relevant sections in a privacy policy with corresponding regulatory rules. This information about individual privacy policies is populated into the PrivComp-KG. Combining this with the domain context and rules, the PrivComp-KG can be queried to check for compliance with privacy policies by each vendor against relevant policy regulations. We demonstrate the relevance of the PrivComp-KG, by verifying compliance of privacy policy documents for various organizations.

Mastering autonomous drone landing on dynamic platforms presents formidable challenges due to unpredictable velocities and external disturbances caused by the wind, ground effect, turbines or propellers of the docking platform. This study introduces an advanced Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) agent, Lander:AI, designed to navigate and land on platforms in the presence of windy conditions, thereby enhancing drone autonomy and safety. Lander:AI is rigorously trained within the gym-pybullet-drone simulation, an environment that mirrors real-world complexities, including wind turbulence, to ensure the agent's robustness and adaptability. The agent's capabilities were empirically validated with Crazyflie 2.1 drones across various test scenarios, encompassing both simulated environments and real-world conditions. The experimental results showcased Lander:AI's high-precision landing and its ability to adapt to moving platforms, even under wind-induced disturbances. Furthermore, the system performance was benchmarked against a baseline PID controller augmented with an Extended Kalman Filter, illustrating significant improvements in landing precision and error recovery. Lander:AI leverages bio-inspired learning to adapt to external forces like birds, enhancing drone adaptability without knowing force magnitudes.This research not only advances drone landing technologies, essential for inspection and emergency applications, but also highlights the potential of DRL in addressing intricate aerodynamic challenges.

This research paper addresses the challenges of exploration and navigation in unknown environments from an evolutionary swarm robotics perspective. Path formation plays a crucial role in enabling cooperative swarm robots to accomplish these tasks. The paper presents a method called the sub-goal-based path formation, which establishes a path between two different locations by exploiting visually connected sub-goals. Simulation experiments conducted in the Argos simulator demonstrate the successful formation of paths in the majority of trials. Furthermore, the paper tackles the problem of inter-collision (traffic) among a large number of robots engaged in path formation, which negatively impacts the performance of the sub-goal-based method. To mitigate this issue, a task allocation strategy is proposed, leveraging local communication protocols and light signal-based communication. The strategy evaluates the distance between points and determines the required number of robots for the path formation task, reducing unwanted exploration and traffic congestion. The performance of the sub-goal-based path formation and task allocation strategy is evaluated by comparing path length, time, and resource reduction against the A* algorithm. The simulation experiments demonstrate promising results, showcasing the scalability, robustness, and fault tolerance characteristics of the proposed approach.

Big Data empowers the farming community with the information needed to optimize resource usage, increase productivity, and enhance the sustainability of agricultural practices. The use of Big Data in farming requires the collection and analysis of data from various sources such as sensors, satellites, and farmer surveys. While Big Data can provide the farming community with valuable insights and improve efficiency, there is significant concern regarding the security of this data as well as the privacy of the participants. Privacy regulations, such as the EU GDPR, the EU Code of Conduct on agricultural data sharing by contractual agreement, and the proposed EU AI law, have been created to address the issue of data privacy and provide specific guidelines on when and how data can be shared between organizations. To make confidential agricultural data widely available for Big Data analysis without violating the privacy of the data subjects, we consider privacy-preserving methods of data sharing in agriculture. Deep learning-based synthetic data generation has been proposed for privacy-preserving data sharing. However, there is a lack of compliance with documented data privacy policies in such privacy-preserving efforts. In this study, we propose a novel framework for enforcing privacy policy rules in privacy-preserving data generation algorithms. We explore several available agricultural codes of conduct, extract knowledge related to the privacy constraints in data, and use the extracted knowledge to define privacy bounds in a privacy-preserving generative model. We use our framework to generate synthetic agricultural data and present experimental results that demonstrate the utility of the synthetic dataset in downstream tasks. We also show that our framework can evade potential threats and secure data based on applicable regulatory policy rules.

Advanced omics technologies and facilities generate a wealth of valuable data daily; however, the data often lacks the essential metadata required for researchers to find and search them effectively. The lack of metadata poses a significant challenge in the utilization of these datasets. Machine learning-based metadata extraction techniques have emerged as a potentially viable approach to automatically annotating scientific datasets with the metadata necessary for enabling effective search. Text labeling, usually performed manually, plays a crucial role in validating machine-extracted metadata. However, manual labeling is time-consuming; thus, there is an need to develop automated text labeling techniques in order to accelerate the process of scientific innovation. This need is particularly urgent in fields such as environmental genomics and microbiome science, which have historically received less attention in terms of metadata curation and creation of gold-standard text mining datasets. In this paper, we present two novel automated text labeling approaches for the validation of ML-generated metadata for unlabeled texts, with specific applications in environmental genomics. Our techniques show the potential of two new ways to leverage existing information about the unlabeled texts and the scientific domain. The first technique exploits relationships between different types of data sources related to the same research study, such as publications and proposals. The second technique takes advantage of domain-specific controlled vocabularies or ontologies. In this paper, we detail applying these approaches for ML-generated metadata validation. Our results show that the proposed label assignment approaches can generate both generic and highly-specific text labels for the unlabeled texts, with up to 44% of the labels matching with those suggested by a ML keyword extraction algorithm., Comment: 33 pages, 6 figures, 10 tables
