Abstract

This study investigates users' willingness to purchase additional smart devices to enhance their personal digital ecosystems. Specifically, it delves into how information system continuance intention and media system dependency influence the intention to purchase additional smart devices. Drawing on the assemblage theory, the study also examines the potential moderating effects of the satisfaction level and the number of smart devices already owned. Based on analysis of a sample comprising 400 smart device users, the study reveals that usage continuance intention and dependency have a significant and positive relation to purchase intention. Furthermore, this study sheds light on the positive impact of owning multiple smart devices on these relations. It is noteworthy that among users with a large number of smart devices, the link between continuance intention and purchase intention is significantly stronger when the satisfaction level is low. 32. HRM Practices for an Ageing Italian Workforce: The Role of Training

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore ageing trends and age stereotypes about older workers, focusing primarily on the Italian employment context. Design/methodology/approach: Beginning from a review of the literature on ageing, the paper: outlines ageing trends and discriminatory behaviours against older workers in Italy; identifies patterns in the age discrimination phenomenon based on organisational characteristics; describes training-based good practices for enhancing the employability of older workers, as implemented by an Italian energy company; presents a range of best practices for age management. Findings: Despite trends towards an ageing general population and an ageing workforce, there is overwhelming evidence of age discrimination against older workers. This paper reports that the age at which workers may be considered "old" is not clearly defined in the literature and that age discrimination does not follow the same pattern across work contexts. In particular, both organisational characteristics and the particular position held by the employee influence discriminatory behaviour towards older workers on the part of employers. Furthermore, although older workers enjoy fewer training opportunities, training is the most widespread policy for dealing with age discrimination. Practical implications: This paper points up important implications for human resource professionals and employers with regard to how to optimize an ageing workforce scenario. Originality/value: The paper provides an in-depth overview of ageing trends within Italian society and culture and outlines the possible implications for both older workers and organisations. Abstract

The need for specific skills and competencies evolves in response to environmental, social and organizational conditions. However, the model for certifying competence levels has remained almost unchanged for centuries: universities (and other institutions) verify and certify that a person has reached a certain level of knowledge and through a standalone solution. The output is often a signed and stamped document that undoubtedly contains limitations in the present international, multilingual and dynamic job market. Universities, educational institutions and consortiums are increasingly exploring how technologies enable and support innovative models of competence certification. In this paper, we investigate how blockchain technologies improve the certification system and generate added value for different involved actors: learners, educational institutions and businesses. An exploratory study is proposed to systematize the overall impacts of blockchain in the field of digital certification while focusing on university education as the main research field. We conducted a first set of interviews with key players of the two Italian universities that first adopted a blockchain certification system. The aim is to investigate, through different but complementary organizational theories, the value creation factors and conditions for the various actors in the blockchain-based competence certification ecosystem.

The adoption of a Distributed Ledger Accounting presents extremely interesting characteristics, eliminating or redefining the role of entities external to the company, such as Banks, Insurance Companies, Certified Public Accountants and Auditors. 45. L'ecosistema della formazione : Allargare i confini per ridisegnare lo sviluppo organizzativo

Abstract

La rivoluzione digitale ha mutato profondamente il mondo della formazione manageriale. La possibilità di percorsi «fai da te», con l'accesso a risorse gratuite come MOOC, talk, video, blog e tutorial, si è ampliata a dismisura, accrescendo le opportunità per soddisfare il diritto ad apprendere che è la base della società della conoscenza. Questo però non ha comportato un declino della formazione, ma ha aumentato come mai prima d'ora la richiesta di iniziative di formazione e sviluppo di qualità. In un contesto in cui i confini tra formazione, autoformazione, sviluppo organizzativo e comunicazione si fanno labili, porosi e incerti, assistiamo quindi da un lato a un ritorno del learning by doing e della formazione informale, dall'altro alla diffusione di nuovi approcci come la formazione on demand e il digital social learning. Sul piano delle metodologie, invece, l'adozione di nuovi format di formazione-intervento (come il business model canvas o il design thinking) si coniuga allo sviluppo di competenze per l'innovazione e la flessibilità organizzativa (si pensi allo smart working o ai nuovi sistemi di performance management centrati sul feedback) attraverso il coinvolgimento delle persone. A fronte di un panorama così articolato – un ecosistema, come recita il titolo – il libro illustra i modelli di formazione emergenti e affronta nel dettaglio le leve di analisi e d'intervento più efficaci. Intorno alle 3P di People, Power e Place si delinea il quadro di una formazione che include sia soggetti interni all'organizzazione sia attori esterni; che mobilita risorse sociali per entrare in contatto con una varietà di mondi organizzativi differenti; che mette in rilievo le potenzialità di un ambiente phygital per la costruzione di una employee experience positiva, coinvolgente e significativa.

Abstract

The concept of Design Thinking (DT) has emerged in business and management discourses as a promising approach to innovation. Numerous organisations start to apply DT practice on different scale for the purpose of the strategic renewal. Despite the growing popularity of the phenomenon in practice, there exists no coherent conceptualisation of DT in theory. The field of DT is young, full of contradictory statements and ambiguities, especially for what regards DT outcomes and benefits. Hence, this dissertation aims at consolidating the field by advancing knowledge on how DT is understood and practiced in organisations. For this, a practice-based approach was selected as a research perspective for gaining theoretical insights based on empirical findings. Moreover, this dissertation aims at explaining the relationship between the DT practice and innovation processes in organisations, so that to establish a dialogue between the two fields. For pursuing these goals, the literature on DT and innovation has been comprehensively reviewed for identifying existent problems and challenges of both fields. The empirical part of the research is developed according to an interpretative philosophical position and a qualitative approach. A single case study of the IBM Company was selected as a research strategy. The primary data were collected by a combination of three ethnographic methods (interviews, mobile ethnography, digital ethnography), and blended with secondary data from the desk research. In the analysis phase, a grounded theory approach and the narrative analysis were used to process the data. Research findings provide a historical context of the IBM Corporation and the IBM Design Company. Then, the IBM DT framework is analysed, and compared with how it is put in practice by IBMers in Italy. Abstract

Millennials, anyone born between 1982 and 2003, are now entering the labour force and are characterized by their own set of characteristics and values. No companies can afford to ignore their growing purchasing power in different countries but few studies have analysed so far the impact of national cultures on e-marketing. To fill this gap, this paper explores Millennials’ attitude towards e-marketing utility perception and its effect on behavioral pattern in a cross-cultural perspective. In particular, we adopted the UTAUT 2 model to analyze Millenials’ e-marketing adoption in Italy and Lebanon. Questionnaires were administered to a sample of Italian (N=167) and Lebanese (N=150) undergraduate students. SmartPLS technique was used to analyze the data. In the Italian sample, Effort expectancy, Facilitating, Trend and Hedonic Motivation significantly predicted Utility perception of emarketing which, in turn, was significantly related to e-marketing adoption. On the opposite, in the Lebanese sample only Price Value and Social Influence predicted Utility perception of e-marketing which in turn was positively related to e-marketing adoption. Our results lead to the conclusion that national cultures still play an important role in affecting emarketing adoption also among younger generations especially in less industrializes and technologically developed countries. Therefore, companies should keep this aspect in mind when developing e-marketing strategies targeting this generation
