Abstract

Reverse transcription-PCR and hybridization can be used to detect viruses that affect the human gastrointestinal tract in shellfish. Researchers who used these techniques found that mussels were heavily contaminated with astrovirus, rotavirus, enterovirus and Norwalk-like virus. Oysters were less heavily contaminated. Viral contamination was most common in winter.

Abstract

Le but de cette étude réalisée dans le cadre du Plan National d'Océanographie Côtière est l'analyse des différents paramètres susceptibles d'interférer dans les processus d'inactivation des virus entériques en milieu marin. La première étape de ce travail consiste dans la détermination de l'influence de paramètres physico-chimiques tels que la salinité, la température ou la luminosité sur le comportemenf des virus entériques en eau de mer artificielle. Les virus sont recherchés simultanément par inoculation sur culture cellulaire et par biologie moléculaire pour les expérimentations réalisées avec le poliovirus de type 1 et par radio-immunologie et biologie moléculaire pour celles réalisées avec le virus de l'hépatite A (VHA). Ce rapport présente les résultats obtenus par PCR pour la mise en évidence du poliovirus et du VHA.

Abstract

Modelling dissolved and particulate contaminants transport in the Morlaix estuary. Application to enteric bacteria discharge. Dissolved contaminants and cohesive sediment transport models have been developped and applied to a macrotidal estuary. These models are original as several dissolved and particulate constituents can be simultaneously computed, the later being followed in the surficial sediment according to the deposition events. Resides laboratory and field experiments have been conducted in order to evaluate the survival of enteric bacteria both within the sediment and the water body. Showing off rather long survival times especially in the sediment, the results have been introduced in the models in order to simulate the impact of urban disposal on water quality in a shellfishing area.
