This paper describes the design of a robotic device - the Hand-Wrist Assisting Robotic Device, or HWARD ("Howard") - that can assist functional grasping and releasing movements of the stroke-impaired hand. The 3 degrees-of-freedom device is pneumatically-actuated and backdriveable. The design of HWARD was guided by neurobiological principles of motor learning, such as sensorimotor integration, movement repetition, environmental complexity, and attention. Specifically, HWARD can assist repetitive grasping and releasing movements while allowing the subject to feel real objects during therapy. The use of real objects having rich sensory and functional characteristics can stimulate sensorimotor cortex activation while enhancing subject motivation and attention - features hypothesized to reduce impairment and disability. A pilot study will test the safety and efficacy of HWARD, with endpoints that include established motor function scales as well as brain mapping with functional MRI (fMRI). © 2005 IEEE.

Background: Non-invasive multi-cancer early detection (MCED) tests have shown promise in enhancing early cancer detection. However, their clinical utility across diverse populations remains underexplored, limiting their routine implementation. This study aims to validate the clinical utility of a multimodal non-invasive circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA)-based MCED test, SPOT-MAS (Screening for the Presence Of Tumor by DNA Methylation And Size)., Methods: We conducted a multicenter prospective study, K-DETEK (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT05227261), involving 9057 asymptomatic individuals aged 40 years or older across 75 major hospitals and one research institute in Vietnam. Participants were followed for 12 months., Results: Of the 9024 eligible participants, 43 (0.48%) tested positive for ctDNA. Among these, 17 were confirmed with malignant lesions in various primary organs through standard-of-care (SOC) imaging and biopsy, with 9 cases matching our tissue of origin (TOO) predictions. This resulted in a positive predictive value of 39.53% (95%CI 26.37-54.42) and a TOO accuracy of 52.94% (95%CI 30.96-73.83). Among the 8981 participants (99.52%) who tested negative, 8974 were confirmed cancer-free during a 12-month period after testing, yielding a negative predictive value of 99.92% (95% CI 99.84-99.96). The test demonstrated an overall sensitivity of 70.83% (95%CI 50.83-85.09) and a specificity of 99.71% (95% CI 99.58-99.80) for detecting various cancer types, including those without SOC screening options., Conclusions: This study presents a prospective validation of a multi-cancer early detection (MCED) test conducted in a lower middle-income country, demonstrating the potential of SPOT-MAS for early cancer detection. This study aims to apply a multi-modal approach of the deep learning method for survival prediction in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) using CT-based radiomics. We utilized two public data sets from the Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) comprising NSCLC patients, 420 patients and 516 patients for Lung 1 training and Lung 2 testing, respectively. A 3D convolutional neural network (CNN) survival was applied to extract 256 deep-radiomics features for each patient from a CT scan. Feature selection steps are used to choose the radiomics signatures highly associated with overall survival. Deep-radiomics and traditional-radiomics signatures, and clinical parameters were fed into the DeepSurv neural network. The C-index was used to evaluate the model's effectiveness. In the Lung 1 training set, the model combining traditional-radiomics and deep-radiomics performs better than the single parameter models, and models that combine all three markers (traditional-radiomics, deep-radiomics, and clinical) are most effective with C-index 0.641 for Cox proportional hazards (Cox-PH) and 0.733 for DeepSurv approach. In the Lung 2 testing set, the model combining traditional-radiomics, deep-radiomics, and clinical obtained a C-index of 0.746 for Cox-PH and 0.751 for DeepSurv approach. The DeepSurv method improves the model's prediction compared to the Cox-PH, and models that combine all three parameters with the DeepSurv have the highest efficiency in training and testing data sets (C-index: 0.733 and 0.751, respectively). DeepSurv CT-based deep-radiomics method outperformed Cox-PH in survival prediction of patients with NSCLC patients. The emergence of multicancer early detection (MCED) tests holds promise for improving early cancer detection and public health outcomes. However, positive MCED test results require confirmation through recommended cancer diagnostic imaging modalities. To address these challenges, we have developed a consultation and work-up protocol for definitive diagnostic results post MCED testing, named SPOT-MAS. Developed through circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis and in line with professional guidelines and advisory board consensus, this protocol standardizes information to aid general practitioners in accessing, interpreting and managing SPOT-MAS results. Clinical effectiveness is demonstrated through a series of identified cancer cases. Our research indicates that the protocol could empower healthcare professionals to confidently interpret circulating tumor DNA test results for 5 common types of cancer, thereby facilitating the clinical integration of MCED tests.

An improvement to Hummers' method involving a cascade-design graphite oxidation reaction is reported to optimize safety and efficiency in the production of graphite oxide (GrO) and graphene oxide (GO). Chemical reduction using highly alkaline ammonia solution is a novel approach to synthesizing reduced graphene oxide (RGO). In this original research, we revisit the oxidation and reduction reactions, providing significant findings regarding the synthetic pathway to obtain a bioinspired water-intercalated hydrogel of RGO nanosheets. Influential factors in the graphite oxidation reaction, typically the exothermic reaction temperature and hydrogen peroxide effect, are described. Furthermore, the chemical reaction of GO reduction using highly alkaline ammonia solution (pH 14) was investigated to produce hydrated RGO nanosheets assembled in a hydrogel structure (97% water). Three-dimensional assembly and water intercalation are key to preserve the non-stacking state of RGO nanosheets. Therefore, ultrasound transmission to aqueous channels in the macroscopic RGO hydrogel vibrated and dispersed the RGO nanosheets in water. Analytical results revealed the single-layer nanostructures, functional groups, optical band gaps, optimized C/O ratios, particle sizes and zeta potentials of GO and RGO nanosheets. The reversible self-assembly of RGO hydrogels is essential for many applications, such as RGO coatings and polymer/RGO nanocomposites. In a water purification application, the RGO hydrogel was dispersed in aqueous solution by simple agitation and showed a high capacity for organic dye adsorption. After the adsorption, the RGO/dye particles were easily removed by filtration through ordinary cellulose paper. The process of adsorption and filtration is effective and inexpensive for practical environmental remediation. Early-generated circuits are critical for the maturation of cortical network activity and the formation of excitation/inhibition (E/I) balance. This process involves the maturation of specific populations of inhibitory neurons. While parvalbumin (PV)-expressing neurons have been associated with E/I impairments observed in neurodevelopmental disorders, somatostatin-expressing (SST) neurons have recently been shown to regulate PV neuron maturation by controlling neural dynamics in the developing cortex. SST neurons receive transient connections from the sensory thalamus, yet the implications of transient connectivity in neurodevelopmental disorders remain unknown. Here, we show that thalamocortical connectivity to SST neurons is persistent rather than transient in a mouse model of Fragile X syndrome. We were able to restore the transient dynamics using chemogenetics, which led to the recovery of fragile X-associated dysfunctions in circuit maturation and sensory-dependent behavior. Methane (CH 4 ) from ruminant production systems produces greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. Our goal was to determine whether monoammonium glycyrrhizinate could inhibit CH 4 emissions over the long term without affecting animal performance and immune indices in Karakul sheep. This study aimed to assess the effects of medium-term (60 days) addition of monoammonium glycyrrhizinate on growth performance, apparent digestibility, CH 4 emissions, methanogens, fibre-degrading bacteria and blood characteristics in Karakul sheep. Twelve male Karakul sheep (40.1 ± 3.59 kg) with fistula were randomly divided into two groups (n = 6): the Control group received a basal diet + the same volume of distilled water (30 ml) and the Treatment group received a basal diet + 8.75 g/kg monoammonium glycyrrhizinate injected via fistula. The adaptation stage was 15 days, and the measurement stage was 60 days. The sampling during the measurement stage was divided into two stages, stage I (1 ∼ 30 d) and stage II (31 ∼ 60 d). The results showed that monoammonium glycyrrhizinate significantly reduced the relative abundance of Bacteroides caccae, daily CH 4 emission and protozoa population, significantly increased the relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae bacterium AD3010, Lachnospiraceae bacterium FE2018, Lachnospiraceae bacterium NK3A20, Lachnospiraceae bacterium NK4A179 and Lachnospiraceae bacterium V9D3004 in stage I (P < 0.05); significantly increased the relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae bacterium AD3010, but significantly decreased the relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae bacterium NK4A179 and Lachnospiraceae bacterium C6A11 in stage II (P < 0.05). Therefore, monoammonium glycyrrhizinate could be used as a CH 4 inhibitor to limit the rumen CH 4 emissions of Karakul sheep in short-term period (30 days) without affecting the growth performance, fibre digestibility and blood parameters., (Copyright © 2024 The Author(s). Background: Rhinoplasty in patients with previous unilateral cleft lip repair is a surgical challenge due to complex nasal deformities, including a horizontally positioned nasal wing, wide cleft side nostrils, nasal base defects, and a short and deviated nasal columella. To comprehensively address these complexities, we exclusively utilized autologous costal cartilage in rhinoplasty procedures, using various surgical techniques., Methods: This study presents a comprehensive case series of 39 patients who had previously undergone unilateral cleft lip surgery but still had nasal deformities. Rhinoplasty using autologous costal cartilage was performed at Cho Ray Hospital, Vietnam. Costal cartilage was partially crushed and then finely cut to shape the dorsal area and raise the nasal base on the cleft side. Partially crushed cartilage was also used to shape shield grafts, cap grafts, and alar batten grafts, whereas sliced cartilage was utilized for septal extension grafts. Evaluation was based on improvements in anthropometric indicators, patient satisfaction using Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation (ROE) scale and FACE-Q scores., Results: The average age of patients was 25.13 years. All postoperative anthropometric indicators showed significant improvements. Postsurgery, the total ROE score was three times higher than before surgery ( P < 0.001), and the total FACE-Q score was 2.26 times higher ( P < 0.001). Background and Objectives : We aimed to investigate the carriage of colistin-resistant genes among both patients with a history of antibiotic exposure and apparently healthy adults with no recent healthcare contact. Materials and Methods : Stool swabs were collected from healthy people, and specimens were collected at the infection foci from the patients. Eleven primer/probe sets were used to perform the Multiplex Real-Time PCR assay with the QuantiNova Multiplex Probe PCR kit for screening the carriage of colistin-resistant genes ( mcr -1 to mcr -10) and 16S rRNA gene as internal control. Results : In total, 86 patients and 96 healthy residents were included. Twenty two patients (25.9%) were positive with at least one colistin-resistance encoding gene. The mcr -1 gene was the most frequent (16.5%), followed by mcr -9, mcr -6, and mcr -4 genes, where the prevalence was 11.8%, 10.6%, and 9.4%, respectively. No patient was positive with mcr -3, mcr -7, and mcr -8 genes. Eight patients (9.4%) were positive with multiple colistin-encoding genes. Twenty-three healthy people (24.0%) were positive with at least one colistin-resistance encoding gene, and the mcr -10 gene was the most frequent (27.0%), followed by the mcr -1, mcr -8, and mcr -9 genes, where the prevalence was 24.3%, 21.6%, and 13.5%, respectively. No person was positive with the mcr -2 and mcr -5 genes. Conclusions : Our findings underscore the urgent need for enhanced surveillance, infection control measures, and stewardship interventions to mitigate the spread of colistin resistance in Vietnam.

Background: Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) has analgesic/anti-inflammatory properties that may be a suitable alternative to over-the-counter (OTC) non-steroidal analgesics/anti-inflammatories. While OTC pain medications can impair strength training adaptations, the mechanism of action of PEA is distinct from these and it may not negatively affect skeletal muscle adaptations to strength training., Methods: The primary aim of this study was to investigate the effects of daily PEA supplementation (350 mg Levagen + equivalent to 300 mg PEA) combined with 8-weeks of resistance training on lean body mass with secondary aims addressing strength, power, sleep, and wellbeing compared to placebo (PLA) in young, healthy, active adults. In a randomized, controlled, double-blinded trial, 52 untrained, recreationally active participants aged 18-35 y were allocated to either the PEA or PLA groups. Participants consumed either 2 × 175 mg Levagen + PEA or identically matched maltodextrin capsules during an 8-week period of whole-body resistance training. This trial assessed the pre- to post- changes in total and regional lean body mass, muscular strength (1-RM bench, isometric mid-thigh pull), muscular power [countermovement jump (CMJ), bench throw], pain associated with exercise training, sleep, and wellbeing compared with the PEA or PLA condition., Results: 48 Participants were included in the final intention to treat (ITT) analysis and we also conducted per protocol (PP) analysis (n = 42). There were no significant between-group differences for total or regional lean muscle mass post-intervention. There was a significantly higher jump height (CMJ) at week 10 in the PEA group compared to the PLA (Adjusted mean difference [95% CI] p-value; ITT: - 2.94 cm [- 5.15, - 0.74] p = 0.010; PP: - 2.93 cm [- 5.31, - 0.55] p = 0.017). The PLA group had higher 1-RM bench press post-intervention compared with the PEA group (ITT: 2.24 kg [0.12, 4.37] p = 0.039; PP: 2.73 kg [0.40, 5.06] p = 0.023). Sugarcane bagasse is one of the most common Vietnamese agricultural waste, which possesses a large percentage of cellulose, making it an abundant and environmentally friendly source for the fabrication of cellulose carbon aerogel. Herein, waste sugarcane bagasse was used to synthesize cellulose aerogel using different crosslinking agents such as urea, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and sodium alginate (SA). The 3D porous network of cellulose aerogels was constructed by intermolecular hydrogen bonding, which was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and nitrogen adsorption/desorption. Among the three cellulose aerogel samples, cellulose - SA aerogel (SB-CA-SA) has low density of 0.04 g m -3 and high porosity of 97.38%, leading to high surface area of 497.9 m 2  g -1 with 55.67% micropores of activated carbon aerogel (SB-ACCA-SA). The salt adsorption capacity was high (17.87 mg g -1 ), which can be further enhanced to 31.40 mg g -1 with the addition of CNT. Moreover, the desalination process using the SB-ACCA-SA-CNT electrode was stable even after 50 cycles. Background and Objective: Abrocitinib is an oral small-molecule Janus kinase (JAK)-1 inhibitor approved for the treatment of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis. In vitro studies indicated that abrocitinib is a weak time-dependent inhibitor of cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2C19/3A and a weak inducer of CYP1A2/2B6/2C19/3A. To assess the potential effect of abrocitinib on concomitant medications, drug-drug interaction (DDI) studies were conducted for abrocitinib with sensitive probe substrates of these CYP enzymes. The impact of abrocitinib on hormonal oral contraceptives (ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel), as substrates of CYP3A and important concomitant medications for female patients, was also evaluated., Methods: Three Phase 1 DDI studies were performed to assess the impact of abrocitinib 200 mg once daily (QD) on the probe substrates of: (1) 1A2 (caffeine), 2B6 (efavirenz) and 2C19 (omeprazole) in a cocktail study; (2) 3A (midazolam); and (3) 3A (oral contraceptives)., Results: After multiple doses of abrocitinib 200 mg QD, there is a lack of effect on the pharmacokinetics of midazolam, efavirenz and contraceptives. Abrocitinib increased the area under the concentration time curve from 0 to infinity (AUC inf ) and the maximum concentration (C max ) of omeprazole by approximately 189 and 134%, respectively. Abrocitinib increased the AUC inf of caffeine by 40% with lack of effect on C max ., Conclusions: Based on the study results, abrocitinib is a moderate inhibitor of CYP2C19. Caution should be exercised when using abrocitinib concomitantly with narrow therapeutic index medicines that are primarily metabolized by CYP2C19 enzyme. Abrocitinib is a mild inhibitor of CYP1A2; however, the impact is not clinically relevant, and no general dose adjustment is recommended for CYP1A2 substrates. Background & Aims: The long-term impact of perioperative probiotics remains understudied while mounting evidence links microbiome and oncogenesis. Therefore, we analyzed overall survival and cancer recurrence among patients enrolled in a randomized trial of perioperative probiotics., Methods: 6-year follow-up of surgical patients participating in a randomized trial evaluating short-course perioperative oral probiotic VSL#3 (n = 57) or placebo (n = 63)., Results: Study groups did not differ in age, preoperative hemoglobin, ASA status, and Charlson comorbidity index. There was a significant difference in preoperative serum albumin (placebo group 4.0 ± 0.1 vs. 3.7 ± 0.1 g/dL in the probiotic group, p = 0.030). Thirty-seven deaths (30.8 %) have occurred during a median follow-up of 6.2 years. Overall survival stratified on preoperative serum albumin and surgical specialty was similar between groups (p = 0.691). Age (aHR = 1.081, p = 0.001), serum albumin (aHR = 0.162, p = 0.001), and surgical specialty (aHR = 0.304, p < 0.001) were the only predictors of overall survival in the multivariate model, while the placebo/probiotic group (aHR = 0.808, p = 0.726) was not predictive. The progression rate among cancer patients was similar in the probiotic group (30.3 %, 10/33) compared to the placebo group (21.2 %, 7/33; p = 0.398). Purpose: To analyze the frequency of main keratotopographic patterns at the 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd stages of keratoconus and investigate corneal biomechanical properties across different patterns., Methods: The study comprised two stages. The first stage was computational-experimental, where we utilized COMSOL Multiphysics® software (COMSOL AB, Stockholm, Sweden) to mathematically model corneal mechanical behavior under intraocular pressure and pulsed air jet action in both normal and keratoconic conditions. The second stage was the clinical phase, during which we retrospectively analyzed the examination results of both healthy subjects and patients with keratoconus. In total, the study included 256 eyes (256 subjects). Among them, 174 eyes (174 healthy individuals) had normal corneas with different refractions, and 82 eyes (82 individuals) had stages 1, 2, and 3 of keratoconus based on Amsler-Krumeich classification. The keratotopographic characteristics of the participants were assessed using Sirius (Schwind, Germany) and Pentacam AXL (OCULUS Optikgeräte GmbH, Germany) keratotomographs, while the corneal biomechanical properties were studied using noncontact tonometry with the Corvis ST device (OCULUS Optikgeräte GmbH, Germany). The study focused on evaluating corneal stiffness index values in the central optical zone under various keratotopographic patterns. In addition, it compared the elastic coefficient values c 1 , c 2 , and c 3 for the model of hyperelastic behavior of corneal material outside the keratoconus zone. Furthermore, the study examined the values of reduced stiffness zone characteristics, including the stiffness reduction factor ψ max , effective radius R k , and the ratio of maximum and minimum strain intensity in keratoconus of different stages., Results: The mean age of the patients in the study was 30.16 ± 8.31 years, with 166 men and 90 women participating. The study revealed typical keratotopographic patterns in the examined keratoconus stages, as well as their occurrence frequency. In the 1 st stage of keratoconus, the pattern of asymmetric astigmatism was noted more frequently (in 75% of cases). In the 2 nd stage, the pattern with an ectasia zone in the lower cornea was observed in 80% of cases, and in the 3 rd stage, a centrally located keratotopographic ectasia pattern was found in 42% of cases. Comparative analysis showed that the greatest decrease in stiffness parameter (SpA1) and stress-strain index occurred in the central pattern (by 64% and 46%, respectively), while the least decrease was observed in local corneal radius reduction in the lower cornea (by 42% and 33%, respectively)., Conclusions: The decrease in strength properties in keratoconus occurs in a local area, the size and degree of which are determined by the disease stage. This study assessed the accumulation levels and ecological risks associated with seven heavy metals (As, Pb, Cd, Hg, Cu, Cr, Zn) in the surface sediments of the Bong Mieu River in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam. The sampling encompassed 10 locations (S1-S10), considering areas both impacted and less impacted by gold mining activities. The findings revealed elevated levels of heavy metal pollution and associated ecological risks attributable to gold mining. Heavy metal content varied within specific ranges: As (70.6-341.2 mg/kg), Pb (216.3-504.1 mg/kg), Hg (0.138-0.252 mg/kg), Cd (0.91-1.51mg/kg), Cu (18.3-45.5 mg/kg), Cr (10.5-19.1 mg/kg), and Zn (49.3-84.1 mg/kg). Among these elements, Hg, Cu, Cr, Zn, and Cd adhered to the acceptable limits of VNTR 43:2017/MONRE (VNTR 43:2017/MONRE: National Technical Regulation/Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam). However, As and Pb content at all locations exceeded these limits significantly, with As being 4.1-20 times higher and Pb 2.3-5.5 times higher. The pollution of Pb and As was attributed to waste discharge from gold mining activities, which carry substantial amounts of these metals in various forms. The I geo indicated heavy pollution of As and Pb in the sediments. Ecological risk factors were ranked as follows: E r i (As) > E r i (Pb) > E r i (Hg) > E r i (Cd) > E r i (Cu) > E r i (Cr) > E r i (Zn). The potential ecological risk (RI) due to combined heavy metal impact varied across locations, with S2 > S8 > S9 > S6 > S7 > S10 > S1 > S3 > S4 > S5, exhibiting low to moderate risk (RI values ranging from 73.4 to 252.8). Introduction: To explore the feasibility and safety of retroperitoneal laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (RLPN) with selective artery clamp (SAC) in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC)., Methods: The authors recruited three men and two women who underwent RLPN for T1 RCC between December 2022 and May 2023 at a tertiary hospital. The median age of the patients was 32 years (range, 25-70 years). The tumour size ranged from 3 to 4.5 cm. The R.E.N.A.L scores were 4x, 5p, 8a, 5a, and 8ah. The median preoperative eGFR was 96.9 (74.3-105.2). Renal computed tomography angiography was performed before the surgery to evaluate the artery branches. The operation time, number of clamped arteries, warm ischaemic time (WIT), intraoperative blood loss, RCC type, postoperative hospital stay, changes in renal function, and complications were evaluated. The follow-up duration was 6 months., Results: The median operation time was 120 (75-150) minutes. One artery was clamped in four patients, while three were clamped in one patient. The median WIT was 22 (15-30) min, and the median blood loss was 150 (100-300) ml. No complications were recorded, and the resection margin was negative in all patients. By identifying Earth heritage sites, UNESCO Global Geoparks (UGGps) have promoted geo-tourism and regional economic prosperity. However, commercial and tourism development has altered the natural contexts of these geoparks, diminishing their initial value. Before implementing land use policies, spatial landscape parameters should be monitored in multiple dimensions and in real time. This study aims to develop Bilateral Segmentation Network (BiSeNet) models employing an upgraded U-structured neural network in order to monitor land use/cover changes and landscape indicators in a Vietnamese UGGp. This network has proven effective at preserving input image data and restricting the loss of spatial information in decoding data. To demonstrate the utility of deep learning, eight trained BiSeNet models were evaluated against Maximum Likelihood, Support Vector Machine, and Random Forest. The trained BSN-Nadam model (128x128), with a precision of 94% and an information loss of 0.1, can become a valuable instrument for analyzing and monitoring monthly changes in land uses/covers once tourism activities have been rapidly expanded. Three tourist routes and 41 locations in the Dak Nong UGGp were monitored for 30 years using three landscape indices: Disjunct Core Area Density (DCAD), Total Edge Contrast Index (TECI), Shannon's Diversity Index (SHDI), based on the results of the model. As a result, 18 identified geo-sites in the Daknong Geopark have been influenced significantly by agricultural and tourist activities since 2010, making these sites less uniform and unsustainable management. Soil CO 2 efflux represents a complex interplay of biological and physical processes that result in the production and transfer of CO 2 from soils to the atmosphere. Temperature has been widely recognized as a critical factor regulating soil CO 2 efflux and is commonly utilized in deterministic empirical models to predict this important flux for the carbon cycle. This study introduces the Bernstein copula-based cosimulation (BCC) as a data-driven probabilistic approach to model the temperature-soil CO 2 efflux relationship. The BCC accounts for the joint probability distribution and temporal dependence of soil CO 2 efflux, which are often overlooked in deterministic models. The BCC was implemented as a proof of concept using two years of data on soil CO 2 efflux conditioned by soil temperature in a temperate forest. The BBC accurately reproduced the original probability distribution, temporal dependency, and temperature-soil CO 2 efflux relationship. Our findings show that a deterministic method, such as the commonly employed exponential relationship between soil CO 2 efflux and temperature, is limited for comprehensively capturing the intricate nature of the temperature-soil CO 2 efflux relationship. This is due to the confounding and interacting effects of environmental drivers beyond temperature, which are not fully accounted for in such a deterministic approach. Furthermore, the BCC revealed that the probability density between the joint cumulative probability of temperature and soil CO 2 efflux is not constant, which raises the concern that deterministic approaches introduce incorrect assumptions for estimating temperature-soil CO 2 relationship. In the pursuit of ultrathin and highly sensitive photodetectors, a promising approach involves leveraging the combination of light-sensitive two-dimensional (2D) semiconducting transition-metal dichalcogenides, such as MoS 2 and the high electrical conductivity of graphene. Over the past decade, exfoliated 2D materials and electron-beam lithography have been used extensively to demonstrate feasibility on single devices. But for these devices to be used in the real-world systems, it is necessary to demonstrate good device performance similar to lab-based devices with repeatability of the results from device to device and a path to large scale manufacturing. To work in this way, a fabrication process of MoS 2 /graphene vertical heterostructures with a wafer-scale integration in a CMOS compatible foundry environment is evaluated here. Large-scale atomic layer deposition on 8 inch silicon wafers is used for the growth of MoS 2 layers which are then transferred on a 4 inch graphene-based wafer. The MoS 2 /graphene phototransistors are fabricated collectively, achieving a minimum channel length of 10 μ m. The results measured on dozen of devices demonstrate a photoresponsivity of 50 A W -1 and a remarkable sensitivity as low as 10 nW at 660 nm. These results not only compete with lab-based photodetectors made of chemical vapor deposition grown MoS 2 layers transferred on graphene, but also pave the way for the large-scale integration of these emerging 2D heterostructures in optoelectronic devices and sensors., (© 2024 IOP Publishing Ltd.)

Binocular vision requires the segregation of retinal ganglion cell (RGC) axons extending from the retina into the ipsilateral and contralateral optic tracts. RGC axon segregation occurs at the optic chiasm, which forms at the ventral diencephalon midline. Using expression analyses, retinal explants and genetically modified mice, we demonstrate that CXCL12 (SDF1) is required for axon segregation at the optic chiasm. CXCL12 is expressed by the meninges bordering the optic pathway, and CXCR4 by both ipsilaterally and contralaterally projecting RGCs. CXCL12 or ventral diencephalon meninges potently promoted axon outgrowth from both ipsilaterally and contralaterally projecting RGCs. Further, a higher proportion of axons projected ipsilaterally in mice lacking CXCL12 or its receptor CXCR4 compared with wild-type mice as a result of misrouting of presumptive contralaterally specified RGC axons. Although RGCs also expressed the alternative CXCL12 receptor ACKR3, the optic chiasm developed normally in mice lacking ACKR3. Our data support a model whereby meningeal-derived CXCL12 helps drive axon growth from CXCR4-expressing RGCs towards the diencephalon midline, enabling contralateral axon growth. Lower-grade gliomas (LGG) can eventually progress to glioblastoma (GBM) and death. In the context of the transfer learning approach, we aimed to train and test an MRI-based radiomics model for predicting survival in GBM patients and validate it in LGG patients. From each patient's 704 MRI-based radiomics features, we chose seventeen optimal radiomics signatures in the GBM training set (n = 71) and used these features in both the GBM testing set (n = 31) and LGG validation set (n = 107) for further analysis. Each patient's risk score, calculated based on those optimal radiomics signatures, was chosen to represent the radiomics model. We compared the radiomics model with clinical, gene status models, and combined model integrating radiomics, clinical, and gene status in predicting survival. The average iAUCs of combined models in training, testing, and validation sets were respectively 0.804, 0.878, and 0.802, and those of radiomics models were 0.798, 0.867, and 0.717. The average iAUCs of gene status and clinical models ranged from 0.522 to 0.735 in all three sets. The radiomics model trained in GBM patients can effectively predict the overall survival of GBM and LGG patients, and the combined model improved this ability., (© 2023. In this study, we assessed the controlled synthesis and efficacy of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) on two distinct types of star-like Au@Ag core-shell nanoarrays. These nanoarrays were designed based on gold nanostars (AuNSs), which were synthesized with and without CTAB surfactant (AuNSs-CTAB and AuNSs-FS, respectively). The AuNS-FS nanoparticles were synthesized via a novel modification process, which helped overcome the previous limitations in the free-surfactant preparation of AuNSs by significantly increasing the number of branches, increasing the sharpness of the branches and minimizing the adsorption of the surfactant on the surface of AuNSs. Furthermore, the differences in the size and morphology of these AuNSs in the created nanoarrays were studied. To create the nanoarrays, a three-step method was employed, which involved the controlled synthesis of gold nanostars, covering them with a silver layer (AuNSs-FS@Ag and AuNSs-CTAB@Ag), and finally self-assembling the AuNS@Ag core-shelled nanoparticles via the liquid/liquid self-assembly method. AuNSs-FS@Ag showed higher ability in forming self-assembled nanoarrays than the nanoparticles prepared using CTAB, which can be attributed to the decrease in the repulsion between the nanoparticles at the interface. The nano-substrates developed with AuNSs-FS@Ag possessed numerous "hot spots" on their surface, resulting in a highly effective SERS performance. AuNSs-FS featured a significantly higher number of sharp branches than AuNSs-CTAB, making it the better choice for creating nanoarrays. It is worth mentioning that AuNSs-CTAB did not exhibit the same benefits as AuNSs-FS. The morphology of AuNSs with numerous branches was formed by controlling the seed boiling temperature and adding a specific amount of silver ions. To compare the SERS activity between the as-prepared nano-substrates, i.e. , AuNS-CTAB@Ag and AuNS-FS@Ag self-assembled nanoarrays, low concentrations of crystal violet aqueous solution were characterized. The results showed that the developed AuNSs-FS@Ag could detect CV at trace concentrations ranging from 1.0 ng mL -1 to 10 ng mL -1 with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.45 ng mL -1 and limit of quantification (LOQ) of 1.38 ng mL -1 . The nano-substrates remained stable for 42 days with a decrease in the intensity of the characteristic Raman peaks of CV by less than 7.0% after storage. Furthermore, the spiking method could detect trace amounts of CV in natural water from the Dong Nai River with concentrations as low as 1 to 100 ng mL -1 , with an LOD of 6.07 ng mL -1 and LOQ of 18.4 ng mL -1 . This method also displayed good reproducibility with an RSD value of 5.71%. To better understand the impact of CTAB stabilization of the Au@Ag star-like nanoparticles on their surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) performance, we conducted density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Our research showed that the preparation of AuNSs-FS@Ag via self-assembly is an efficient, simple, and fast process, which can be easily performed in any laboratory. This study optimized the ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) processes to acquire phenolics and flavonoids from passion fruit peels using a mixture of ethanol, acetone, and water. An augmented simplex-centroid design was employed to find the suitable volume ratio among solvent ingredients to attain the highest extraction yield of phenolics and flavonoids. One-factor experiments were conducted to investigate the influence of UAE and MAE parameters on the recovery yield of phenolics and flavonoids before the two processes were optimized using Box-Behnken Design (BBD) models. The optimal UAE conditions for recovering phenolics and flavonoids from passion fruit peel powder (PFP) were 28 mL/g of liquid-to-solid ratio (LSR), 608 W of ultrasonic power, and 63 °C for 20 min to acquire total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) at 39.38 mg of gallic acid equivalents per gram of dried basis (mg GAE/g db) and 25.79 mg of rutin equivalents per gram of dried basis (mg RE/g db), respectively. MAE conditions for attaining phenolics and flavonoids from PFP were 26 mL/g of LSR and 606 W of microwave power for 2 min to recover TPC and TFC at 17.74 mg GAE/g db and 8.11 mg RE/g db, respectively. The second-order kinetic model was employed to determine the UAE and MAE mechanism of TPC and TFC and the thermodynamic parameters of the extraction processes. The antioxidant activities of passion fruit peel extracts at optimal conditions were examined to compare the efficiency of UAE and MAE. The malignant tumors in nature share some common morphological characteristics. Radiomics is not only images but also data; we think that a probability exists in a set of radiomics signatures extracted from CT scan images of one cancer tumor in one specific organ also be utilized for overall survival prediction in different types of cancers in different organs. The retrospective study enrolled four data sets of cancer patients in three different organs (420, 157, 137, and 191 patients for lung 1 training, lung 2 testing, and two external validation set: kidney and head and neck, respectively). In the training set, radiomics features were obtained from CT scan images, and essential features were chosen by LASSO algorithm. Univariable and multivariable analyses were then conducted to find a radiomics signature via Cox proportional hazard regression. The Kaplan-Meier curve was performed based on the risk score. The integrated time-dependent area under the ROC curve (iAUC) was calculated for each predictive model. In the training set, Kaplan-Meier curve classified patients as high or low-risk groups (p-value < 0.001; log-rank test). The risk score of radiomics signature was locked and independently evaluated in the testing set, and two external validation sets showed significant differences (p-value < 0.05; log-rank test). A combined model (radiomics + clinical) showed improved iAUC in lung 1, lung 2, head and neck, and kidney data set are 0.621 (95% CI 0.588, 0.654), 0.736 (95% CI 0.654, 0.819), 0.732 (95% CI 0.655, 0.809), and 0.834 (95% CI 0.722, 0.946), respectively. Human activity recognition (HAR) is an important research problem in computer vision. This problem is widely applied to building applications in human-machine interactions, monitoring, etc. Especially, HAR based on the human skeleton creates intuitive applications. Therefore, determining the current results of these studies is very important in selecting solutions and developing commercial products. In this paper, we perform a full survey on using deep learning to recognize human activity based on three-dimensional (3D) human skeleton data as input. Our research is based on four types of deep learning networks for activity recognition based on extracted feature vectors: Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) using extracted activity sequence features; Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) uses feature vectors extracted based on the projection of the skeleton into the image space; Graph Convolution Network (GCN) uses features extracted from the skeleton graph and the temporal-spatial function of the skeleton; Hybrid Deep Neural Network (Hybrid-DNN) uses many other types of features in combination. Our survey research is fully implemented from models, databases, metrics, and results from 2019 to March 2023, and they are presented in ascending order of time. In particular, we also carried out a comparative study on HAR based on a 3D human skeleton on the KLHA3D 102 and KLYOGA3D datasets. At the same time, we performed analysis and discussed the obtained results when applying CNN-based, GCN-based, and Hybrid-DNN-based deep learning networks.

Purpose: Selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) has been proven to be an effective treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. In clinical practice, the treatment planning for SIRT using 90 Y microspheres requires estimation of the liver-lung shunt fraction (LSF) to avoid radiation pneumonitis. Currently, the manual segmentation method to draw a region of interest (ROI) of the liver and lung in 2D planar imaging of 99m Tc-MAA and 3D SPECT/CT images is inconvenient, time-consuming and observer-dependent. In this study, we propose and evaluate a nearly automatic method for LSF quantification using 3D SPECT/CT images, offering improved performance compared with the current manual segmentation method., Methods: We retrospectively acquired 3D SPECT with non-contrast-enhanced CT images (nCECT) of 60 HCC patients from a SPECT/CT scanning machine, along with the corresponding diagnostic contrast-enhanced CT images (CECT). Our approach for LSF quantification is to use CNN-based methods for liver and lung segmentations in the nCECT image. We first apply 3D ResUnet to coarsely segment the liver. If the liver segmentation contains a large error, we dilate the coarse liver segmentation into the liver mask as a ROI in the nCECT image. Subsequently, non-rigid registration is applied to deform the liver in the CECT image to fit that obtained in the nCECT image. The final liver segmentation is obtained by segmenting the liver in the deformed CECT image using nnU-Net. In addition, the lung segmentations are obtained using 2D ResUnet. Finally, LSF quantitation is performed based on the number of counts in the SPECT image inside the segmentations. Evaluations and Results: To evaluate the liver segmentation accuracy, we used Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), asymmetric surface distance (ASSD), and max surface distance (MSD) and compared the proposed method to five well-known CNN-based methods for liver segmentation. Furthermore, the LSF error obtained by the proposed method was compared to a state-of-the-art method, modified Deepmedic, and the LSF quantifications obtained by manual segmentation. The results show that the proposed method achieved a DSC score for the liver segmentation that is comparable to other state-of-the-art methods, with an average of 0.93, and the highest consistency in segmentation accuracy, yielding a standard deviation of the DSC score of 0.01. The proposed method also obtains the lowest ASSD and MSD scores on average (2.6 mm and 31.5 mm, respectively). Moreover, for the proposed method, a median LSF error of 0.14% is obtained, which is a statically significant improvement to the state-of-the-art-method (p=0.004), and is much smaller than the median error in LSF manual determination by the medical experts using 2D planar image (1.74% and p<0.001)., Conclusions: A method for LSF quantification using 3D SPECT/CT images based on CNNs and non-rigid registration was proposed, evaluated and compared to state-of-the-art techniques. Possible drug-food constituent interactions (DFIs) could change the intended efficiency of particular therapeutics in medical practice. The increasing number of multiple-drug prescriptions leads to the rise of drug-drug interactions (DDIs) and DFIs. These adverse interactions lead to other implications, e.g., the decline in medicament's effect, the withdrawals of various medications, and harmful impacts on the patients' health. However, the importance of DFIs remains underestimated, as the number of studies on these topics is constrained. Recently, scientists have applied artificial intelligence-based models to study DFIs. However, there were still some limitations in data mining, input, and detailed annotations. This study proposed a novel prediction model to address the limitations of previous studies. In detail, we extracted 70,477 food compounds from the FooDB database and 13,580 drugs from the DrugBank database. We extracted 3780 features from each drug-food compound pair. The optimal model was eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost). We also validated the performance of our model on one external test set from a previous study which contained 1922 DFIs. Finally, we applied our model to recommend whether a drug should or should not be taken with some food compounds based on their interactions. The model can provide highly accurate and clinically relevant recommendations, especially for DFIs that may cause severe adverse events and even death. Our proposed model can contribute to developing more robust predictive models to help patients, under the supervision and consultants of physicians, avoid DFI adverse effects in combining drugs and foods for therapy.

Hand detection and classification is a very important pre-processing step in building applications based on three-dimensional (3D) hand pose estimation and hand activity recognition. To automatically limit the hand data area on egocentric vision (EV) datasets, especially to see the development and performance of the "You Only Live Once" (YOLO) network over the past seven years, we propose a study comparing the efficiency of hand detection and classification based on the YOLO-family networks. This study is based on the following problems: (1) systematizing all architectures, advantages, and disadvantages of YOLO-family networks from version (v)1 to v7; (2) preparing ground-truth data for pre-trained models and evaluation models of hand detection and classification on EV datasets (FPHAB, HOI4D, RehabHand); (3) fine-tuning the hand detection and classification model based on the YOLO-family networks, hand detection, and classification evaluation on the EV datasets. Hand detection and classification results on the YOLOv7 network and its variations were the best across all three datasets. The results of the YOLOv7-w6 network are as follows: FPHAB is P = 97% with Thesh IOU = 0.5; HOI4D is P = 95% with Thesh IOU = 0.5; RehabHand is larger than 95% with Thesh IOU = 0.5; the processing speed of YOLOv7-w6 is 60 fps with a resolution of 1280 × 1280 pixels and that of YOLOv7 is 133 fps with a resolution of 640 × 640 pixels.

Objectives: To compare the accuracy of the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) Scores in predicting mortality among intensive care unit (ICU) patients with sepsis in a low-income and middle-income country., Design: A multicentre, cross-sectional study., Setting: A total of 15 adult ICUs throughout Vietnam., Participants: We included all patients aged ≥18 years who were admitted to ICUs for sepsis and who were still in ICUs from 00:00 to 23:59 of the specified study days (ie, 9 January, 3 April, 3 July and 9 October of the year 2019)., Primary and Secondary Outcome Measures: The primary outcome was hospital all-cause mortality (hospital mortality). We also defined the secondary outcome as all-cause deaths in the ICU (ICU mortality)., Results: Of 252 patients, 40.1% died in hospitals, and 33.3% died in ICUs. SOFA Score (areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC): 0.688 (95% CI 0.618 to 0.758); cut-off value≥7.5; P AUROC <0.001) and APACHE II Score (AUROC: 0.689 (95% CI 0.622 to 0.756); cut-off value ≥20.5; P AUROC <0.001) both had a poor discriminatory ability for predicting hospital mortality. However, the discriminatory ability for predicting ICU mortality of SOFA (AUROC: 0.713 (95% CI 0.643 to 0.783); cut-off value≥9.5; P AUROC <0.001) was fair and was better than that of APACHE II Score (AUROC: 0.672 (95% CI 0.603 to 0.742); cut-off value≥18.5; P AUROC <0.001). A SOFA Score≥8 (adjusted OR (AOR): 2.717; 95% CI 1.371 to 5.382) and an APACHE II Score≥21 (AOR: 2.668; 95% CI 1.338 to 5.321) were independently associated with an increased risk of hospital mortality. Additionally, a SOFA Score≥10 (AOR: 2.194; 95% CI 1.017 to 4.735) was an independent predictor of ICU mortality, in contrast to an APACHE II Score≥19, for which this role did not., Conclusions: In this study, SOFA and APACHE II Scores were worthwhile in predicting mortality among ICU patients with sepsis. The SPOT-MAS assay "Screening for the Presence Of Tumor by Methylation And Size" detects the five most common cancers in Vietnam by evaluating circulating tumor DNA in the blood. Here, we validated its performance in a prospective multi-center clinical trial, K-DETEK. Our analysis of 2795 participants from 14 sites across Vietnam demonstrates its ability to detect cancers in asymptomatic individuals with a positive predictive value of 60%, with 83.3% accuracy in detecting tumor location. We present a case report to support further using SPOT-MAS as a complementary method to achieve early cancer detection and provide the opportunity for early treatment.

Purpose: The study aims to develop a modified personalized topographically and tomographically oriented technique of ultraviolet corneal collagen cross-linking (UVCXL) to affect the area of the cornea with weakest biomechanical properties as determined by mathematical modeling., Material and Methods: Modeling of the biomechanics of keratoconic cornea under conditions of external diagnostic action was done using COMSOL Multiphysics ® software. Finite-element analysis procured 3D images of stress/deformation distribution pattern throughout the cornea. Matching these 3D images with primary topographic and tomographic Pentacam AXL maps and Corvis ST findings allowed determining localization and dimensions of impaired regions of the cornea. The acquired data helped develop the modified corneal collagen cross-linking technique, which was applied in the treatment of 36 persons (36 eyes) with degrees I and II keratoconus., Results: Uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity (UCVA and BCVA logMAR) in all patients after modified UVCXL increased after the follow-up period lasting 6-12 months by 0.2±0.19 (23%) and 0.1±0.14 (29%) ( p <0.05), respectively, in comparison with preoperative values. Maximum keratometry (K max ) decreased by 1.35±1.63% (3%; p <0.05) in all cases at 6-12 months follow-up. Improvement of corneal biomechanical strength was determined by statistically significant increase in corneal stiffness index (SP-A1) and corneal stress-strain index (SSI) measured with Pentacam AXL and Corvis ST at 6-12 months follow-up by 15.1±5.04 (18%) and 0.21±0.20 (23%) ( p <0.05), respectively. Effectiveness of the developed UVCXL technique is also confirmed by the appearance of a characteristic morphological marker - «demarcation line» at the cross-linking site in keratoconus projection at the depth of 240±10.2 µm., Conclusion: The developed personalized topographically and tomographically oriented UVCXL technique provides an evident stabilizing effect on the cornea in the form of an increase in its biomechanical strength, improvement of clinical, functional indicators and safety of keratoconus treatment.

In this study, we investigated if a steam treatment program used to produce disease-free strawberry transplants has the potential to also eliminate strawberry mite (Phytonemus pallidus) and two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae). Crowns of strawberry plants collected in a commercial field, containing young, folded leaves with all life stages of P. pallidus, and strawberry leaf discs on water agar with T. urticae with non-diapausing adult females and eggs from a laboratory rearing, were exposed to warm aerated steam in a steam cabinet in a series of four experimental runs over 2 years. The steam treatments constituted of a 1-h pre-treatment with 37 °C steam followed by a 1-h recovery period at 21-25 °C, and then a main steam treatment at 44 °C for either 2, 4 (both P. pallidus and T. urticae) or 6 h (the more heat tolerant T. urticae only). After steaming, the plant material with P. pallidus or T. urticae were incubated at 21-25 °C until survival was assessed after 1-6 days, depending on the mite species and life-stage. Non-steamed plant material with mites was used as controls. The 4-h treatment killed all P. pallidus eggs, larvae and adults, and the 2-h treatment killed all individuals in all three stages except for one egg in one of the runs. There were no or minor effects of the steam treatments on T. urticae adult and egg survival. Background: The simple scoring systems for predicting the outcome of sepsis in intensive care units (ICUs) are few, especially for limited-resource settings. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of the quick Sequential (Sepsis-Related) Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) score in predicting the mortality of ICU patients with sepsis in Vietnam., Methods: We did a multicenter cross-sectional study of patients with sepsis (≥18 years old) presenting to 15 adult ICUs throughout Vietnam on the specified days (i.e., 9th January, 3rd April, 3rd July, and 9th October) representing the different seasons of 2019. The primary and secondary outcomes were the hospital and ICU all-cause mortalities, respectively. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) was calculated to determine the discriminatory ability of the qSOFA score for deaths in the hospital and ICU. The cut-off value of the qSOFA scores was determined by the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Upon ICU admission, factors associated with the hospital and ICU mortalities were assessed in univariable and multivariable logistic models., Results: Of 252 patients, 40.1% died in the hospital, and 33.3% died in the ICU. The qSOFA score had a poor discriminatory ability for both the hospital (AUROC: 0.610 [95% CI: 0.538 to 0.681]; cut-off value: ≥2.5; sensitivity: 34.7%; specificity: 84.1%; PAUROC = 0.003) and ICU (AUROC: 0.619 [95% CI: 0.544 to 0.694]; cutoff value: ≥2.5; sensitivity: 36.9%; specificity: 83.3%; PAUROC = 0.002) mortalities. However, multivariable logistic regression analyses show that the qSOFA score of 3 was independently associated with the increased risk of deaths in both the hospital (adjusted odds ratio, AOR: 3.358; 95% confidence interval, CI: 1.756 to 6.422) and the ICU (AOR: 3.060; 95% CI: 1.651 to 5.671)., Conclusion: In our study, despite having a poor discriminatory value, the qSOFA score seems worthwhile in predicting mortality in ICU patients with sepsis in limited-resource settings., Clinical Trial Registration: Clinical trials registry-India: CTRI/2019/01/016898., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that no competing interests exist.

This study investigates the relationship between career development learning (CDL) and students' perceived employability (SPE) with the mediating role of human capital. Using a quantitative method based on structured questionnaires to collect data from 512 Vietnamese students before starting their internship at businesses and 322 of them after 4 months, the results of the partial least square Structural Equational Model analysis showed that CDL positively affects SPE over time. Besides, the study explored the mediating effect of human capital in the relationship between CDL and SPE. In particular, scholastic capital and cultural capital play mediating roles while social capital failed to be in the relationship between CDL and SPE. This study is expected to enrich current literature on students' employability and human capital theory. Abrocitinib is a selective Janus kinase 1 inhibitor for the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (AD). To assess the relationship between abrocitinib plasma concentrations and heart rate (HR)-corrected QT (QTc) and HR and calculate the effect of abrocitinib on these parameters at supratherapeutic concentrations, 36 healthy volunteers received single doses of abrocitinib 600 mg, placebo, and moxifloxacin 400 mg in a 3-period crossover study. The relationship between change from baseline in Fridericia-corrected QTc (∆QTcF) values and abrocitinib plasma concentrations was modeled using a prespecified linear mixed-effects model. The 90%CIs for time-matched placebo-corrected ∆QTcF (∆∆QTcF) were calculated from model parameter estimates and assessed against the regulatory threshold (10 millisecond) at the predicted supratherapeutic concentration in patients with atopic dermatitis (2156 ng/mL). Mean (90%CI) time-matched placebo-corrected change from baseline in HR (∆∆HR) was calculated similarly. At the supratherapeutic concentration, mean (90%CI) estimates for ∆∆QTcF and ∆∆HR were 6.00 (4.52-7.49) milliseconds and 6.51 (5.23-7.80) bpm, respectively. Despite a concentration-dependent effect on ∆QTcF and ∆HR, with statistically significant slopes (90%CI) of 0.0026 (0.0018-0.0035) milliseconds/(ng/mL) and 0.0031 (0.0024-0.0038) bpm/(ng/mL), respectively, abrocitinib does not have a clinically significant effect on QTc interval or HR at supratherapeutic exposures., (© 2022 The Authors. Tofacitinib is an oral, small molecule Janus kinase inhibitor for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). We report a model-informed drug development approach for bridging efficacy from immediate-release (IR) to extended-release (XR) tofacitinib formulations in patients with UC. IR-XR efficacy bridging was supported by exposure-response analysis of phase 3 induction/maintenance studies of the IR formulation in UC to identify exposure metrics relevant for efficacy. Pharmacokinetic studies in healthy subjects were used to confirm similarity of relevant exposure metrics of tofacitinib IR 5 mg twice daily to XR 11 mg once daily, and tofacitinib IR 10 mg twice daily to XR 22 mg once daily, thereby bridging efficacy between IR and XR formulations. Food effect was evaluated at both XR formulation dose levels. Exposure-response analysis demonstrated that area under the plasma concentration-time curve (average plasma concentration) was a relevant predictor of efficacy. Pharmacokinetic studies demonstrated that area under the plasma concentration-time curve was equivalent between formulations under single-dose and steady-state conditions, and other exposure metrics were also similar. These results also supported bridging of safety data for IR-XR formulations. Food had no impact on tofacitinib XR exposure. Three-dimensional human pose estimation is widely applied in sports, robotics, and healthcare. In the past five years, the number of CNN-based studies for 3D human pose estimation has been numerous and has yielded impressive results. However, studies often focus only on improving the accuracy of the estimation results. In this paper, we propose a fast, unified end-to-end model for estimating 3D human pose, called YOLOv5-HR-TCM (YOLOv5-HRet-Temporal Convolution Model). Our proposed model is based on the 2D to 3D lifting approach for 3D human pose estimation while taking care of each step in the estimation process, such as person detection, 2D human pose estimation, and 3D human pose estimation. The proposed model is a combination of best practices at each stage. Our proposed model is evaluated on the Human 3.6M dataset and compared with other methods at each step. The method achieves high accuracy, not sacrificing processing speed. The estimated time of the whole process is 3.146 FPS on a low-end computer. In particular, we propose a sports scoring application based on the deviation angle between the estimated 3D human posture and the standard (reference) origin. The average deviation angle evaluated on the Human 3.6M dataset (Protocol #1-Pro #1) is 8.2 degrees.

Background: Chronic low back pain is a global health problem having a tremendous effect on the quality of life of patients., Objectives: An online therapy management system (TMS) is developed for comprehensive management of chronic low back pain patients., Methods: A smartphone and a web app are built based on the Keep-In-Touch Telehealth Platform. The smartphone app allows entering patient reported outcomes and connection to third party devices to monitor physiological data and parameters of therapy., Results: The TMS has been realized and a wearable auricular vagus nerve stimulation device has been integrated. The TMS is currently evaluated in a randomized clinical trial.

Background and Objective: Abrocitinib is a Janus kinase 1-selective inhibitor for the treatment of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis. Abrocitinib is eliminated primarily by metabolism involving cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes. Abrocitinib pharmacologic activity is attributable to the unbound concentrations of the parent molecule and 2 active metabolites, which are substrates of organic anion transporter 3 (OAT3). The sum of potency-adjusted unbound exposures of abrocitinib and its 2 active metabolites is termed the abrocitinib active moiety. We evaluated effects of CYP inhibition, CYP induction, and OAT3 inhibition on the pharmacokinetics of abrocitinib, its metabolites, and active moiety., Methods: Three fixed-sequence, open-label, phase I studies in healthy adult volunteers examined the drug-drug interactions (DDIs) of oral abrocitinib with fluvoxamine and fluconazole, rifampin, and probenecid., Results: Co-administration of abrocitinib with fluvoxamine or fluconazole increased the area under the plasma concentration-time curve from time 0 to infinity (AUC inf ) of the unbound active moiety of abrocitinib by 91% and 155%, respectively. Co-administration with rifampin decreased the unbound active moiety AUC inf by 56%. The OAT3 inhibitor probenecid increased the AUC inf of the unbound active moiety by 66%., Conclusions: It is important to consider the effects of DDIs on the abrocitinib active moiety when making dosing recommendations. Co-administration of strong CYP2C19/2C9 inhibitors or CYP inducers impacted exposure to the abrocitinib active moiety. A dose reduction by half is recommended if abrocitinib is co-administered with strong CYP2C19 inhibitors, whereas co-administration with strong CYP2C19/2C9 inducers is not recommended. We present a numerical study on a 2D array of plasmonic structures covered by a subwavelength film. We explain the origin of surface lattice resonances (SLRs) using the coupled dipole approximation and show that the diffraction-assisted plasmonic resonances and formation of bound states in the continuum (BICs) can be controlled by altering the optical environment. Our study shows that when the refractive index contrast Δn < -0.1, the SLR cannot be excited, while a significant contrast (Δn > 0.3) not only sustains plasmonic-induced resonances but also forms both symmetry-protected and accidental BICs. The results can aid the streamlined design of plasmonic lattices in studies on light-matter interactions and applications in biosensors and optoelectronic devices.

A wide range of harmonics especially continuum harmonics is a prerequisite for attosecond pulse generation. One can use longer-wavelength lasers to push the cutoff to a higher order. However, this does not translate to the same amount of continuum range extension because multiple rescattering phenomena are also enhanced in the process, potentially affecting the lower end of the continuum harmonics. It is then important to understand exactly how multiple rescatterings affect the harmonic structure and their response to various laser parameters, which is the main theme of this paper. Particularly, by applying the synchrosqueezed time-frequency transform and classical electron trajectory analysis to the asymmetric molecule carbon monoxide (CO), we justify that the multiple rescatterings indeed influence the periodicity of the harmonic spectra and the stable periodicity is, in fact, bounded by the first- and third-order returns. Moreover, for the first time, we find that the high-order rescatterings are asymmetric regarding the molecular rotation of 180°, but always correlate with the first-order returns. Our last result is that by breaking the laser symmetry in an appropriate way, the contribution of multiple rescatterings is removed so that the continuum region is entirely defined by the first-order return energies.

Background: Ruptured aneurysms secondary to the tuberculous infection of the aorta are a rare and life-threatening disease. We report a single-center experience of two patients with ruptured infrarenal tuberculous aneurysms., Case Presentation: We report 2 patients with ruptures of the tuberculous aneurysm. All patients had acute abdominal pain and were diagnosed by echography then CT scan preoperatively. The first patient (male, 50 years old) had a ruptured saccular aneurysm. The second patient (male, 43 years old) had a retroperitoneal contained rupture. All were treated by open prosthetic repair, by vascular surgeons. The two patients were well after operations. The diagnosis was confirmed by pathology examination. Antituberculous treatment was introduced after the operation., Conclusions: Ruptured tuberculous aneurysms are rare but life-threatening. The diagnosis requires a high degree of suspicion. The treatment includes early diagnosis and emergent surgical intervention, extensive excision of infected field, aortic reconstruction, and prolonged antituberculous drug therapy., (Copyright © 2022 The Authors. Until recently, genotypes of Phytophthora infestans were regionally distributed in Europe, with populations in western Europe being dominated by clonal lineages and those in northern Europe being genetically diverse because of frequent sexual reproduction. However, since 2013 a new clonal lineage (EU&#95;41&#95;A2) has successfully established itself and expanded in the sexually recombining P. infestans populations of northern Europe. The objective of this study was to study phenotypic traits of the new clonal lineage of P. infestans , which may explain its successful establishment and expansion within sexually recombining populations. Fungicide sensitivity, aggressiveness, and virulence profiles of isolates of EU&#95;41&#95;A2 were analyzed and compared with those of the local sexual populations from Denmark, Norway, and Estonia. None of the phenotypic data obtained from the isolates collected from Denmark, Estonia, and Norway independently explained the invasive success of EU&#95;41&#95;A2 within sexual Nordic populations. Therefore, we hypothesize that the expansion of this new genotype could result from a combination of fitness traits and more favorable environmental conditions that have emerged in response to climate change.

Background: Biliary instrumentation is associated with bactibilia and post-operative infection. Bactibilia incidence over time remains unknown. Patients and Methods: Consecutive patients with bilioenteric anastomosis surgery and available surveillance intra-operative bile duct cultures were evaluated for post-operative infection. The study period (2008-2019) was divided into quartiles to examine time-based trends. Results: Among 101 cases, 60 intra-operative bile duct cultures had no growth and 41 patients had documented at least one culture-positive isolate in their bile. Frequency of patients with culture-positive intra-operative bile increased over the study period (period 1, 1/28, 3.6% vs. period 2, 7/21, 33.3% vs. period 3, 15/26, 57.7% vs. period 4, 18/26, 69.2%; p < 0.001). Culture-positive post-operative infection (17/101; 16.8%) was not associated with intra-operative bile duct culture (p = 0.552), however, the same micro-organism isolate was identified on post-operative infection and intra-operative culture of bile duct bile among six of 17 patients (35.3%). Conclusions: We found an increasing incidence of bactibilia and post-operative culture-positive infections over the last decade. One-third of patients with a positive intra-operative bile duct culture experienced post-operative infection with the same organism, yet a clear link between bile colonization and post-operative infection was not established.

Sugarcane is one of the most important industrial crops in Vietnam and covers a total of 127,000 hectares of plantation area. In the season 2020-2021, Vietnam has produced 0.763 million tons of sugar (accounting for 0.34% total world sugar production). A current sugarcane production of 7.498 million tons is being used mainly for sugar production for direct consumption, ethanol production, bio-electricity and fertilization. To ensure crop sustainability, various policies and plans have been implemented. Crop breeding and zoning improvement programme significantly influence sugarcane production and sugar yield. Over 25 years since the programme "one million ton of sugar" was promoted, Vietnam currently possesses 25 sugar mills with a total capacity of 110,000 tons of sugarcane per day. Major problems of sugarcane industry as well as research and development have been discussed in this review. Recent research and development work focused on the added values of co-products to ensure sustainability of the sugarcane industry. Molasses will be used for ethanol production, and bagasse is used as the biomass for the alternative energy. Sugarcane and sugar would be the main feedstocks for those bio-economy growths in Vietnam. To keep the sustainable development of the sugar industry, and to meet the demand of the food and non-food requirements, it is necessary to upgrade the sugar value chain through the adoption and the development of co-products of the sugar industry., (© The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Society for Sugar Research & Promotion 2022.)
