In this letter, a new integral equation domain decomposition method (IE-DDM) using electric and magnetic current combined-field integral equation (JMCFIE) is proposed for efficient electromagnetic analysis of composite objects. This method provides a flexible way to decompose a complex composite domain into several easily solvable nonoverlapping subdomains. In order to obtain a good approximation of the global solution, both electric and magnetic field interactions are considered at the subdomain interfaces, in addition to the traditional Robin-type transmission conditions. In this manner, the unphysical reflections at subdomain interfaces can be further suppressed. It is shown that the condition of the new JMCFIE-DDM system is much improved in this new implementation. Accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method are demonstrated through several numerical experiments.

We present an integral equation domain decomposition method accelerated by a novel multiple-grid precorrected fast Fourier transform (MG-p-FFT) for the efficient analysis of multiscale structures in a half space. Based on the philosophy of DDM, the original computational domain is partitioned into several non-overlapping sub-domains. By employing non-conformal discretizations to each domain boundaries, combined field integral equation with half-space dyadic Green’s function is proposed for each individual sub-domain. Subsequently, the MG-p-FFT with auxiliary Cartesian grids with different size, order, location, and spacing, is adopted in each sub-domain independently to account for the self-interactions. Here, the proposed MG-p-FFT scheme outperforms the existing single-grid p-FFT scheme for multiscale problems by reducing the computational time and memory consumption. In this article, a suspended stripline bandpass filter using hybrid transmission line stepped impedance resonator (HTLSIR) is proposed. SSL has been proven to be an excellent transmission-line system for realizing different types of filters. However, due to the effective permittivity being too close to unity, the size of the distributed elements is usually very large. The novel resonator introduced in this letter contains a section of hybrid transmission line which consists of the SSL and the microstrip line. The characteristics of the HTLSIR have been analyzed clearly. The novel SSL filter is designed, fabricated, and tested. In this paper, an efficient method is proposed to eliminate frequency splitting in nonradiative wireless power transfer via magnetic resonance coupling. In this method, two nonidentical resonant coils (NIRCs) are used as wireless power transmitter and receiver, respectively. According to the elliptic integral term in the analytical expression, the pole of the mutual inductance function with respect to transfer distance can be eliminated by using the two NIRCs, and hence overcoupling between transmitter and receiver with close transfer distance is avoided. Therefore, frequency splitting caused by overcoupling can be suppressed and stable output power can be achieved. The NIRCs are analytically calculated, numerically simulated and finally, fabricated and tested to verify the theory. All the calculated and experimental results show that frequency splitting is completely eliminated and uniform voltage across the load is achieved. Furthermore, lateral misalignment between the NIRCs barely introduces frequency splitting, and the suppression level of frequency splitting can also be controlled freely.

Based on open stub-loaded dual- and tri-mode resonators, two miniaturized microstrip tri-band bandpass filters with good performance are presented. A pseudo-interdigital structure is introduced to realize size reduction. The 0° feed network is applied to create at least one transmission zero near the passband edge of each passband, resulting in high rejection and selectivity. The mode-splitting technique is used by combining two multi-mode resonators with electrical coupling, and the split two modes generate one passband. For demonstration, two tri-band bandpass filters with dual- and tri-mode resonators are implemented, respectively. The simulated and measured results are presented and show good agreement.

Based on a short stub-loaded stepped-impedance resonator, a novel compact microstrip bandpass filter with controllable passband center frequencies is presented. To obtain dual-passband characteristics, dual-mode short stub-loaded stepped-impedance resonator and novel quad-pole-splitting techniques are investigated. The single passband is split into two with a notch when two resonators are employed, and dual passbands of a close band could be realized. It was found that the filter exhibits two desirable close passbands, an adjustable fractional bandwidth, and wide upper-stopband response. Moreover, the compact size of the proposed structure can be achieved. Good agreement between the measured and simulated results is shown.

The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the necessity of nasogastric or nasojejunal decompression after gastrectomy for gastric cancer.Medline, Embase and the Cochrane Library were searched. Only prospective randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared subjects with and without nasogastric or nasojejunal decompression after gastrectomy were eligible in this meta-analysis. Time to flatus, time to first oral intake, length of hospital stay, reinsertion rate, anastomotic leakage, pulmonary complications, morbidity and mortality were evaluated.Eight studies finally fulfilled the inclusion criteria. This meta-analysis enrolled 1141 patients, 570 randomized to routine decompression and 571 randomized to no decompression. Time to first oral intake was significantly shorter in the non-decompression group (WMD = 0.53, 95% CI: 0.28 to 0.77; p0.001). Additionally, subjects with nasogastric or nasojejunal decompression experienced a longer hospital stay (p = 0.001). Time to flatus, anastomotic leakage, reinsertion rates, pulmonary complications, morbidity and mortality rates were similar between the two groups.Nasogastric or nasojejunal decompression does not facilitate the recovery of bowel function or reduce the risk of postoperative complications. Therefore, routine nasogastric or nasojejunal decompression is unnecessary after gastrectomy for gastric cancer.

A compact dual-wideband bandpass filter featuring two controllable center frequencies and passbands using a single side-coupled shorted λ/4 stepped-impedance resonator (SIR) is presented. The resonant frequencies of the two passbands can be adjusted by tuning the impedance ratio and length of the SIR. The bandwidth of the two passbands is determined by the coupling strength between the meandering feedlines and the resonator. The generation mechanism of filter’s transmission zeroes was investigated by equivalent models of the filter and the bending parts of the open-end meandering feedlines. Owing to the cross-coupling between the two open-end meandering feedlines and the phase shifted characteristic of the open-end meandering feedlines, several transmission zeroes can be generated to improve the selectivity. To verify the design concept, one dual-wideband bandpass filter has been designed, fabricated, and measured. The simulated and measured results are presented with good agreement.

A novel fifth-order suspended stripline (SSL) low-loss bandpass filter with four transmission zeros is proposed. The technique of utilising only one cross-coupling structure introduces four transmission zeros to provide high selectivity. By adjusting the parameters of the coupling open loop, the performance of out-of-band of the filter can be changed. A detailed discussion of this effect of the coupling open loop is given. The highest out-of-band rejection of the filter is more than 70 dB. An SSL bandpass filter is designed, fabricated and measured. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulated results.

On-chip flow cytometry provides a powerful tool to characterize cell samples for point-of-care diagnosis. In particular, sample focusing at specific locations along the microchannel is crucial to ensure the accuracy of detection. In this paper, we present a simple strategy of interfacing an RF-activated standing surface acoustic wave (SSAW) substrate with a microfluidic channel, and use this device to study the dynamic process of particle aggregation along the microchannel. Specifically, the SSAW generated by two parallel interdigital transducers induces an acoustic radiation force that propels particles suspended in the liquid toward the pressure nodes whose locations are tunable by judicious choice of the applied SSAW frequency. We also carry out a theoretical analysis that provides an estimation of the time for the particle assembly, which is validated by experimental results. This SSAW transducer can therefore be easily integrated into a microfluidic chip with moderate energy consumption, offering a convenient and effective solution in the development of on-chip flow cytometry.

an HP-8510 C Vector Network Analyzer was used for the measurement of the proposed active BPF. The bias conditions for the GaAs-MESFET is VDS 5 3V , Vg 52 0.5 V, and IDS 5 40 mA. Under these bias conditions, low noise, stable, and high gain properties can be obtained. 4. CONCLUSION In this article, a stable low noise and high gain dual-band active BPF with GaAs-MESFET using the CRLH metamaterial has been successfully demonstrated. The proposed active BPF is connected to the gate of the GaAs-MESFET and the bias is dual bias. Then, CRLH is applied to develop a dual-band BPF using an amplifier circuit with two arbitrary frequency (x) bands. The two center frequencies of the CRLH are chosen as x1 5 1.23 GHz and x2 5 1.63 GHz, where the phase slope characteristics of the response are chosen as 290 � and 2270 � at frequencies of x1 and x2, respectively. The measurement results of the proposed active BPF are MSG values of 7.82 and 7.03 dB and the return losses of 215.1 and 210.1 dB with bandwidths of 55 (4.4%) and 105 MHz (6.4%) at the center frequencies of 1.22 and 1.61 GHz, respectively. This circuit can be fabricated using Microwave Monolithic Integrated Circuit technique due to its entirely planar structure. It can be applied to a mobile communication system. ACKNOWLEDGMENT

A function-reconfigurable double-helix printed antenna, inspired by DNA structures, is proposed. The antenna, consisting of two metal strips printed on a substrate, was designed, optimized, and fabricated. It was more stable than a metal-wire antenna. The antenna was demonstrated to have a remarkable functional reconfigurability with different lumped elements between the two helices. When the element is chosen as a capacitor, the antenna works as a broadband and high-gain antenna. When the element is an inductor, the antenna operates as a frequency-tunable antenna with a wide tuning range. While the antennas with both elements are circularly polarized, good performance of these antennas is exhibited.

A compact multiresonant antenna for octaband LTE/WWAN operation in the internal smartphone applications is proposed and discussed in this letter. With a small volume of 15×25×4 mm3, the presented antenna comprises two direct feeding strips and a chip-inductor-loaded two-branch shorted strip. The two direct feeding strips can provide two resonant modes at around 1750 and 2650 MHz, and the two-branch shorted strip can generate a double-resonance mode at about 725 and 812 MHz. Moreover, a three-element bandstop matching circuit is designed to generate an additional resonance for bandwidth enhancement of the lower band. Ultimately, up to five resonances are achieved to cover the desired 704-960- and 1710-2690-MHz bands. Simulated and measured results are presented to demonstrate the validity of the proposed antenna.

A two-strip narrow-frame monopole antenna for hepta-band WWAN/LTE smartphone applications is proposed. The brightest point of the proposed antenna is that its narrow edge has a width of only 5mm, which is very practical for current smartphone applications with larger touch-screens. In addition, the proposed narrow-frame antenna has a small volume of 60£5£5mm 3 and a simple structure, which comprises of a two-strip monopole loaded with a chip capacitor and an L-shape high-pass fllter. Meanwhile, the propose antenna can cover the GSM850/900/1800/1900/UMTS2100/LTE2300/2500 bands. Finally, the operating principle of the proposed antenna is investigated and both simulated and measured results are presented and discussed.

A small-size low-profile narrow-frame antenna for seven-band WWAN/LTE operations in the internal smartphone applications is proposed. The greatest highlight of this proposed antenna is that its narrow edge has a width of only 5 mm, which is very novel for smartphone applications. Meanwhile, the proposed narrow-frame antenna has a small size of 5 × 40 mm2 and a low profile of 3 mm above the circuit board, which makes it very promising for slim smartphone applications. The proposed antenna is capable of covering GSM850/900/DCS/PCS/UMTS 2100/LTE2300/2500 operating bands. Detailed design considerations of the proposed antenna are described, and both experimental and simulation results are also presented and discussed.

A planar antenna array, which is closely placed with an infinitesimal distance of only 4 mm between array elements yet well decoupled by a deliberately designed small-size protruded ground, is presented. The well-designed protruded ground has two types of behaviors: reducing the coupling in between the array elements and improving impedance matching to enhance the bandwidth. At the lower bands of GSM850/900 and the upper bands of GSM1800/1900/UMTS/LTE2300/2500, the good radiation efficiencies of better than 43% and 50% respectively are obtained, and simultaneously the isolations of better than 10 dB are achieved in between the antenna elements. A prototype is made and tested, with S-parameters, radiation efficiency, radiation pattern, and envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) presented.

A compact frequency-reconfigurable narrow-frame antenna for heptaband smartphone applications is presented. The width of the no-ground portion to support the antenna is quite narrow of only 5 mm, which meets the requirements of the popular narrow-frame smartphone designs with larger touchscreens. Moreover, the reconfigurable technology is employed to achieve wide bandwidth coverage with a small volume. By combining two working states, the GSM850/900/1800/1900/UMTS2100/LTE2300/2500 operation is achieved. Detailed considerations of the design are studied in this letter, and the proposed antenna is successfully simulated, fabricated, and measured.

A novel eight-band LTE/WWAN frequency reconfigurable antenna for tablet computer applications is proposed in this communication. With a small dimension of 40 × 12 × 4 mm3, the proposed antenna comprises a loop feeding strip and a shorting strip in which a single-pole four-throw RF switch is embedded. The RF switch is used to change the resonant modes of lower band among four different working states, so that the antenna can provide a multiband operation of LTE700/GSM850 /900/1800/1900/UMTS2100/LTE2300/2500 with return loss better than 6 dB. Reasonably good radiating efficiency and antenna gain are also achieved for the practical tablet computer.

A planar antenna array composed of two decoupled multiband wireless wide area network (WWAN) antenna elements for slim mobile phone application is presented and studied in this letter. A wide T-shaped protruded ground is deliberately designed to enhance the impedance matching and decouple the two closely deposed antenna elements. The integrity of the proposed T-shaped decoupling structure allows the reuse of space in between the antenna elements in the real applications. With small size occupation, the proposed antenna array covers two wide operating bands including 824-960 and 1710-2170 MHz, and within a short separating distance it achieves isolation better than 12 dB in the lower band and 15 dB in upper band. A prototype is fabricated, and the array's overall performances are measured and compared to simulated results to validate the proposed solution.

A wideband antenna array incorporating a neutralization line (NL) for port decoupling for smartphone applications is proposed. The U-shape NL is employed to achieve enhanced isolations for the lower band, which are better than 10 dB for 824–960 MHz. The mechanism of the NL is explained based on the ${ S}$ -parameters and the surface current distributions. In addition, the incorporated NL has acceptable effects on the bandwidth, while a bandstop filter and on-ground slots are utilized to realize the hepta-band coverage, covering the GSM850/900/1800/1900/UMTS/LTE2300/2500 operation. A prototype is fabricated and tested, with ${ S}$ -parameters, radiation efficiencies, radiation patterns, envelope correlation coefficient (ECC), and mean effective gain (MEG) presented.

A compact small-size coupled-fed antenna with two symmetrical printed meandered inductive strips as two distributed inductors for seven-band operation covering the GSM850/900/1800//1900/UMTS2100/LTE2300/2500 bands in the internal mobile handset application is proposed. Wideband operation is achieved by incorporating a feeding strip and two radiating strips of different lengths, which are both disposed on the no-ground board space of the proposed antenna. The desired lower bands of GSM850/900 operation can be achieved by the two radiating strips of different lengths, which provide a quarter-wavelength dual-resonance mode at 810 and 962 MHz. While the feeding strip can provide a quarter-wavelength resonant mode at around 1.78 GHz, and other resonant modes at 2.45 GHz are contributed by the higher-order resonant modes of the two radiating strips, covering the desired upper bands of DCS1800/PCS1900/UMTS2100/LTE2300/2500 operation. In addition, the proposed antenna only occupies a planar size of 15×30 mm2 and is easily printed on one surface of a FR4 substrate, which makes it suitable for practical mobile applications. Detailed considerations of the design and main parameters are studied in this communication and the proposed antenna is successfully simulated, fabricated, and measured.

In this letter, a magnetically controlled surface-loaded ferrite single pole single through (SPST) switch is presented. The ferrite slab is loaded on the broad wall surface of a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW). When a dc magnetic bias is applied to the ferrite slabs, the effective permeability of the ferrite becomes negative. In this case, the wave will be cut off. After investigating the design principle, an X-band switch prototype is fabricated and measured. Its insertion loss is less than 1.6 dB, return loss is better than 15 dB, and isolation is better than 27 dB in a frequency range from 9.5 to 11 GHz.

Dapsone is used in the treatment of infections and inflammatory diseases. The dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome, which is associated with a reported mortality of 9.9%, develops in about 0.5 to 3.6% of persons treated with the drug. Currently, no tests are available to predict the risk of the dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome.We performed a genomewide association study involving 872 participants who had received dapsone as part of multidrug therapy for leprosy (39 participants with the dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome and 833 controls), using log-additive tests of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and imputed HLA molecules. For a replication analysis, we genotyped 24 SNPs in an additional 31 participants with the dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome and 1089 controls and performed next-generation sequencing for HLA-B and HLA-C typing at four-digit resolution in an independent series of 37 participants with the dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome and 201 controls.Genomewide association analysis showed that SNP rs2844573, located between the HLA-B and MICA loci, was significantly associated with the dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome among patients with leprosy (odds ratio, 6.18; P=3.84×10(-13)). HLA-B*13:01 was confirmed to be a risk factor for the dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome (odds ratio, 20.53; P=6.84×10(-25)). The presence of HLA-B*13:01 had a sensitivity of 85.5% and a specificity of 85.7% as a predictor of the dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome, and its absence was associated with a reduction in risk by a factor of 7 (from 1.4% to 0.2%). HLA-B*13:01 is present in about 2 to 20% of Chinese persons, 1.5% of Japanese persons, 1 to 12% of Indians, and 2 to 4% of Southeast Asians but is largely absent in Europeans and Africans.HLA-B*13:01 was associated with the development of the dapsone hypersensitivity syndrome among patients with leprosy. A simple low-profile antenna for octa-band LTE/WWAN operation in the internal mobile phone application is proposed and studied in this article. Consisting of a feeding strip and a coupling strip mainly, the presented antenna can be easily printed on the no-ground area of the top of a FR4 substrate, yet it occupies only a size of 15 × 40 mm2 and has a height of 3.5 mm. In this scheme, a chip inductor (L1 = 20 nH) is loaded in the long inductive strip, which can form a parallel resonant structure together with the coupling strip section close to the feeding strip. With these presences, a double-resonance mode (λ/4 resonant mode) is successfully generated at about 720 and 900 MHz to cover the lower band of LTE700/GSM850/900 (704-960 MHz). While the desired upper band of DCS1800/PCS1900/UMTS2100/LTE2300/2500 (1710-2690 MHz) can be obtained with the help of second two resonant modes, including a high-order λ/2 resonant mode at 1800 MHz and a λ/4 resonant mode at 2550 MHz. That is to say that those two wide operating bandwidths are achieved to cover all the octa-band LTE/WWAN operation. Good radiation efficiency and antenna gain for frequencies over the desired operating bands is obtained. Detailed design considerations of the proposed antenna are described, and both experimental and simulation results are also presented and discussed.

In this article, a novel printed antenna is proposed, fabricated, and tested for an ultra-wideband LTE/GSM/UMTS WWAN wireless USB dongle attached to a laptop computer. With a chip capacitance (1.0 pF) embedded to improve the desired impedance matching in the design, a fundamental resonant mode at about 750 MHz is successfully excited to cover LTE700/GSM850/900 operating bands, while the big radiating plate can generate two resonance frequencies to meet the bandwidth of DCS1800/PCS1900/UMTS2100/LTE2300/2500. Owing to its simple structure and configuration, the presented antenna, having an evident compact size of 20 × 19 mm2, can be integrated easily in the USB dongle together with the other functional modules. A simple small-size printed antenna for eight-band long-term evolution (LTE)/GSM/UMTS wireless wide area network operation in an internal mobile handset application is proposed. Occupying a compact size of 15 × 40 mm2 on the ungrounded region of the system circuit board and a low profile of 4 mm, the presented antenna is a coupled-fed configuration. With the longer branch of the feeding strip, a λ/4 resonant mode at around 2.7 GHz can be obtained to cover the desired LTE2500 operation. A fundamental λ/4 resonant mode over the desired lower band of LTE700/GSM850/900 can also be generated at 750 MHz by the long meandered coupling strip (length of about 113 mm). Moreover, two additional higher-order resonant modes at around 1.75 and 2.25 GHz can also be obtained by the coupling strip. By including a chip inductor L at the feeding point, the impedance matching over the lower and upper bands can be improved in order to achieve the two wide operating bands of 698–960 and 1710–2690 MHz. With the following properties of small size, ease of fabrication and good radiation characteristics, the proposed antenna is a good candidate for the fourth LTE mobile phone applications.

A broadband gradient index (GRIN) metamaterial lens for gain enhancement of circularly polarized antennas has been automatically designed, fabricated and investigated. The GRIN metamaterial lens consists of an isotropic dielectric plate with a corresponding distribution of deep-subwavelength drill holes each with the same diameter. Such drill holes have a negligible in∞uence on both the polarization state and the spectral response of the electromagnetic wave transmitting through the resulting GRIN metamaterial lens. Therefore, the GRIN metamaterial lens is polarization-insensitive and can e-ciently transform spherical waves into planar waves over a very broad frequency range keeping the initial polarization states (e.g., linear or circular) scarcely changed. An on-board coupled-fed printed monopole with a distributed inductive shorted strip for seven-band operation covering the GSM850/900/1800/1900/UMTS2100/LTE2300/2500 bands in the mobile phone is presented. The presented antenna consists of a feeding strip and a distributed inductive shorted strip (formed by a printed distributed inductor and a simple shorted strip). By the coupled-fed excitation, the proposed antenna can generate multiple resonant modes at lower and upper bands for seven-band WWAN/LTE operation covering 824–960/1710–2690-MHz bands. The proposed antenna only occupies a size of 15 $\,\times\,$ 29 mm $^{2}$ and is easily printed on the top of an FR4 substrate, which makes it suitable for practical mobile applications. The proposed antenna was fabricated and tested. Measured and simulated results are presented.

A compact printed antenna for WWAN tablet computer application is proposed in this article. The designed antenna occupies a small area of 35£12mm 2 , which is small enough to be incorporated in a tablet computer, and is placed close to the edge of the shielding wall with a distance of 10mm. The antenna has a simple structure of comprising a long coupling strip and a feeding strip to capacitively excite the long coupling strip. In this scheme, a chip inductor is loaded on one branch of the feeding strip, which can form a parallel resonant structure to enhance the bandwidth of the lower band. As a result, two wide operating bands to cover GSM850/900 and GSM1800/1900/UMTS2100 operation are obtained with desired 3 : 1 VSWR. The proposed antenna is an all-printing structure with low production cost, which is especially suited for the thin-proflle tablet computers.

A novel compact planar triple-band bandpass fllter using two sets of short stub-loaded stepped impedance resonators (SSLSIRs) and a pair of embedded stepped impedance resonators (ESIRs) has been proposed. The SSLSIRs can adjust the bandwidths of the corresponding passbands over a wide range, and the ESIRs employing non 0 - -feed coupled structure with mixed electric and magnetic coupling can obtain an extra transmission zero. The embedded resonators structure can further miniaturize the dimensions of the whole triple-band fllter. The operating frequencies of the SSLSIRs and ESIRs are designed for the applications of the WLAN (2.45/5.2GHz) and WiMAX (3.5GHz) systems, respectively. The simulated and measured results are both presented and show good agreement.
