Molecular clouds (MCs) are the birthplaces of new stars in galaxies. A key component of MCs are photodissociation regions (PDRs), where far-ultraviolet radiation plays a crucial role in determining the gas's physical and chemical state. Traditional PDR models assume chemical steady state (CSS), where the rates of H$_2$ formation and photodissociation are balanced. However, real MCs are dynamic and can be out of CSS. In this study, we demonstrate that combining H$_2$ emission lines observed in the far-ultraviolet or infrared with column density observations can be used to derive the rates of H$_2$ formation and photodissociation. We derive analytical formulae that relate these rates to observable quantities, which we validate using synthetic H$_2$ line emission maps derived from the SILCC-Zoom hydrodynamical simulation. Our method estimates integrated H$_2$ formation and dissociation rates to within 29\% accuracy. Our simulations cover a wide dynamic range in H$_2$ formation and photodissociation rates, showing significant deviations from CSS, with 74\% of the MC's mass deviating from CSS by a factor greater than 2. Our analytical formulae can effectively distinguish between regions in and out of CSS. We introduce HyperCLOVA X, a family of large language models (LLMs) tailored to the Korean language and culture, along with competitive capabilities in English, math, and coding. HyperCLOVA X was trained on a balanced mix of Korean, English, and code data, followed by instruction-tuning with high-quality human-annotated datasets while abiding by strict safety guidelines reflecting our commitment to responsible AI. The model is evaluated across various benchmarks, including comprehensive reasoning, knowledge, commonsense, factuality, coding, math, chatting, instruction-following, and harmlessness, in both Korean and English. HyperCLOVA X exhibits strong reasoning capabilities in Korean backed by a deep understanding of the language and cultural nuances. Further analysis of the inherent bilingual nature and its extension to multilingualism highlights the model's cross-lingual proficiency and strong generalization ability to untargeted languages, including machine translation between several language pairs and cross-lingual inference tasks. Molecular hydrogen (H$_2$) formation and dissociation are key processes that drive the gas lifecycle in galaxies. Using the SImulating the LifeCycle of Molecular Clouds (SILCC) zoom-in simulation suite, we explore the utility of future observations of H$_2$ dissociation and formation for tracking the lifecycle of molecular clouds. The simulations used in this work include non-equilibrium H$_2$ formation, stellar radiation, sink particles, and turbulence. We find that, at early times in the cloud evolution, H$_2$ formation rapidly outpaces dissociation and molecular clouds build their mass from the atomic reservoir in their environment. Rapid H$_2$ formation is also associated with a higher early star formation rate. For the clouds studied here, H$_2$ is strongly out of chemical equilibrium during the early stages of cloud formation but settles into a bursty chemical steady-state about 2 Myrs after the first stars form. At the latest stage of cloud evolution, dissociation outweighs formation and the clouds enter a dispersal phase. We discuss how theories for the molecular cloud lifecycle and the star formation efficiency may be distinguished with observational measurements of H$_2$ fluorescence with a space-based high-resolution FUV spectrometer, such as the proposed Hyperion and Eos NASA Explorer missions. Such missions would enable measurements of the H$_2$ dissociation and formation rates, which we demonstrate can be connected to different phases in a molecular cloud's star-forming life, including cloud building, rapidly star-forming, H$_2$ chemical equilibrium, and cloud destruction., Comment: Submitted to ApJ, comments welcome

The structure and dynamics of the star-forming disk of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) have long confounded us. The SMC is widely used as a prototype for galactic physics at low metallicity, and yet we fundamentally lack an understanding of the structure of its interstellar medium (ISM). In this work, we present a new model for the SMC by comparing the kinematics of young, massive stars with the structure of the ISM traced by high-resolution observations of neutral atomic hydrogen (HI) from the Galactic Australian Square Kilometer Array Pathfinder survey (GASKAP-HI). Specifically, we identify thousands of young, massive stars with precise radial velocity constraints from the Gaia and APOGEE surveys and match these stars to the ISM structures in which they likely formed. By comparing the average dust extinction towards these stars, we find evidence that the SMC is composed of two structures with distinct stellar and gaseous chemical compositions. We construct a simple model that successfully reproduces the observations and shows that the ISM of the SMC is arranged into two, superimposed, star-forming systems with similar gas mass separated by ~5 kpc along the line of sight., Comment: ApJ accepted. 20 pages, 18 figures

(Abridged) Context. Massive star formation is associated with energetic processes, which result in significant gas cooling via far-infrared (IR) lines. Velocity-resolved observations can constrain the kinematics of the gas, allowing the identification of the physical mechanisms responsible for gas heating. Aims. Our aim is to quantify far-infrared CO line emission toward high-mass star-forming regions, identify the high-velocity gas component associated with outflows, and estimate the physical conditions required for the excitation of the observed lines. Methods. Velocity-resolved SOFIA/GREAT spectra of 13 high-mass star forming clumps of various luminosities and evolutionary stages are studied using CO 11-10 and 16-15 lines. Results. All targets show strong high-J CO emission in the far-IR, characterized by broad line wings associated with outflows, thereby significantly increasing the sample of sources with velocity-resolved high-J CO spectra. The contribution of the emission in the line wings does not correlate with the envelope mass or evolutionary stage. Gas rotational temperatures cover a narrow range of 120-220 K for the line wings. The non-LTE radiative transfer models indicate gas densities of 1e5-1e7 cm-3 and N(CO) of 1e17- 1e18 cm-2, similar to physical conditions in deeply-embedded low- and high-mass protostars. The velocity-integrated CO line fluxes correlate with the bolometric luminosity over 7 orders of magnitude including data on the low-mass protostars, suggesting similar processes are responsible for the high-J CO excitation over a significant range of physical scales. Conclusions. Velocity-resolved line profiles allow the detection of outflows toward massive star-forming clumps spanning a broad range of evolutionary stages. Turbulence plays a crucial role in shaping the structure of the interstellar medium. The ratio of the three-dimensional density contrast ($\sigma_{\rho/\rho_0}$) to the turbulent sonic Mach number ($\mathcal{M}$) of an isothermal, compressible gas describes the ratio of solenoidal to compressive modes in the turbulent acceleration field of the gas, and is parameterised by the turbulence driving parameter: $b=\sigma_{\rho/\rho_0}/\mathcal{M}$. The turbulence driving parameter ranges from $b=1/3$ (purely solenoidal) to $b=1$ (purely compressive), with $b=0.38$ characterising the natural mixture (1/3~compressive, 2/3~solenoidal) of the two driving modes. Here we present a new method for recovering $\sigma_{\rho/\rho_0}$, $\mathcal{M}$, and $b$, from observations on galactic scales, using a roving kernel to produce maps of these quantities from column density and centroid velocity maps. We apply our method to high-resolution HI emission observations of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) from the GASKAP-HI survey. We find that the turbulence driving parameter varies between $b\sim 0.3$ and $b\sim 1.0$ within the main body of the SMC, but the median value converges to $b\sim0.51$, suggesting that the turbulence is overall driven more compressively ($b>0.38$). We observe no correlation between the $b$ parameter and HI or H$\alpha$ intensity, indicating that compressive driving of HI turbulence cannot be determined solely by observing HI or H$\alpha$ emission density, and that velocity information must also be considered. In this paper, we investigate the conditions for the HI-to-H$_{2}$ transition in the solar neighborhood by analyzing HI emission and absorption measurements toward 58 Galactic lines of sight (LOSs) along with $^{12}$CO(1$-$0) (CO) and dust data. Based on the accurate column densities of the cold and warm neutral medium (CNM and WNM), we first perform a decomposition of gas into atomic and molecular phases and show that the observed LOSs are mostly HI-dominated. In addition, we find that the CO-dark H$_{2}$, not the optically thick HI, is a major ingredient of the dark gas in the solar neighborhood. To examine the conditions for the formation of CO-bright molecular gas, we analyze the kinematic association between HI and CO and find that the CNM is kinematically more closely associated with CO than the WNM. When CNM components within CO line widths are isolated, we find the following characteristics: spin temperature $<$ 200 K, peak optical depth $>$ 0.1, CNM fraction of $\sim$0.6, and $V$-band dust extinction $>$ 0.5 mag. These results suggest that CO-bright molecular gas preferentially forms in environments with high column densities where the CNM becomes colder and more abundant. Finally, we confront the observed CNM properties with the steady-state H$_{2}$ formation model of Sternberg et al. and infer that the CNM must be clumpy with a small volume filling factor. This work aims to create a multimodal AI system that chats with humans and shares relevant photos. While earlier works were limited to dialogues about specific objects or scenes within images, recent works have incorporated images into open-domain dialogues. However, their response generators are unimodal, accepting text input but no image input, thus prone to generating responses contradictory to the images shared in the dialogue. Therefore, this work proposes a complete chatbot system using two multimodal deep learning models: an image retriever that understands texts and a response generator that understands images. The image retriever, implemented by ViT and BERT, selects the most relevant image given the dialogue history and a database of images. The response generator, implemented by ViT and GPT-2/DialoGPT, generates an appropriate response given the dialogue history and the most recently retrieved image. The two models are trained and evaluated on PhotoChat, an open-domain dialogue dataset in which a photo is shared in each session. In automatic evaluation, the proposed image retriever outperforms existing baselines VSE++ and SCAN with Recall@1/5/10 of 0.1/0.3/0.4 and MRR of 0.2 when ranking 1,000 images. The proposed response generator also surpasses the baseline Divter with PPL of 16.9, BLEU-1/2 of 0.13/0.03, and Distinct-1/2 of 0.97/0.86, showing a significant improvement in PPL by -42.8 and BLEU-1/2 by +0.07/0.02. In human evaluation with a Likert scale of 1-5, the complete multimodal chatbot system receives higher image-groundedness of 4.3 and engagingness of 4.3, along with competitive fluency of 4.1, coherence of 3.9, and humanness of 3.1, when compared to other chatbot variants. We present Hyperion, a mission concept recently proposed to the December 2021 NASA Medium Explorer announcement of opportunity. Hyperion explores the formation and destruction of molecular clouds and planet-forming disks in nearby star-forming regions of the Milky Way. It does this using long-slit, high-resolution spectroscopy of emission from fluorescing molecular hydrogen, which is a powerful far-ultraviolet (FUV) diagnostic. Molecular hydrogen (H2) is the most abundant molecule in the universe and a key ingredient for star and planet formation, but is typically not observed directly because its symmetric atomic structure and lack of a dipole moment mean there are no spectral lines at visible wavelengths and few in the infrared. Hyperion uses molecular hydrogen's wealth of FUV emission lines to achieve three science objectives: (1) determining how star formation is related to molecular hydrogen formation and destruction at the boundaries of molecular clouds; (2) determining how quickly and by what process massive star feedback disperses molecular clouds; and (3) determining the mechanism driving the evolution of planet-forming disks around young solar-analog stars. Hyperion conducts this science using a straightforward, highly-efficient, single-channel instrument design. Hyperion's instrument consists of a 48 cm primary mirror, with an f/5 focal ratio. The spectrometer has two modes, both covering 138.5-161.5 nm bandpasses. A low resolution mode has a spectral resolution of R>10,000 with a slit length of 65 arcmin, while the high resolution mode has a spectral resolution of R>50,000 over a slit length of 5 armin. Hyperion occupies a 2 week long, high-earth, Lunar resonance TESS-like orbit, and conducts 2 weeks of planned observations per orbit, with time for downlinks and calibrations. Remembering important information from the past and continuing to talk about it in the present are crucial in long-term conversations. However, previous literature does not deal with cases where the memorized information is outdated, which may cause confusion in later conversations. To address this issue, we present a novel task and a corresponding dataset of memory management in long-term conversations, in which bots keep track of and bring up the latest information about users while conversing through multiple sessions. In order to support more precise and interpretable memory, we represent memory as unstructured text descriptions of key information and propose a new mechanism of memory management that selectively eliminates invalidated or redundant information. Experimental results show that our approach outperforms the baselines that leave the stored memory unchanged in terms of engagingness and humanness, with larger performance gap especially in the later sessions., Comment: Accepted to EMNLP2022 Findings

The heart of the Large Magellanic Cloud, 30 Doradus, is a complex region with a clear core-halo structure. Feedback from the stellar cluster R$\,$136 has been shown to be the main source of energy creating multiple pc-scale expanding-shells in the outer region, and carving a nebula core in the proximity of the ionization source. We present the morphology and strength of the magnetic fields (B-fields) of 30 Doradus inferred from the far-infrared polarimetric observations by SOFIA/HAWC+ at 89, 154, and 214$\,\mu$m. The B-field morphology is complex, showing bending structures around R$\,$136. In addition, we use high spectral and angular resolution [\textsc{CII}] observations from SOFIA/GREAT and CO(2-1) from APEX. The kinematic structure of the region correlates with the B-field morphology and shows evidence of multiple expanding shells. Our B-field strength maps, estimated using the Davis-Chandrasekhar-Fermi method and structure-function, show variations across the cloud within a maximum of 600, 450, and 350$\,\mu$G at 89, 154, and 214$\,\mu$m, respectively. We estimated that the majority of the 30 Doradus clouds are sub-critical and sub-Alfv\'enic. The probability distribution function of the gas density shows that the turbulence is mainly compressively driven, while the plasma beta parameter indicates supersonic turbulence. We show that the B-field is sufficient to hold the cloud structure integrity under feedback from R$\,$136. We suggest that supersonic compressive turbulence enables the local gravitational collapse and triggers a new generation of stars to form. (Abridged) In this paper, we investigate the physical conditions of [CI]-traced gas in high-mass star-forming regions by analyzing APEX [CI] 492 GHz single-pointing observations of the ATLASGAL Top100 sources along with other multi-wavelength data. Our 98 sources are clearly detected in [CI] 492 GHz emission, and the observed integrated intensities and line widths tend to increase toward evolved stages of star formation. In addition to these "main" components that are associated with the Top100 sample, 41 emission and two absorption features are identified by their velocities toward 28 and two lines of sight respectively as "secondary" components. The secondary components have systematically smaller integrated intensities and line widths than the main components. We found that [CI] 492 GHz and 13CO(2-1) are well correlated with the 13CO(2-1)-to-[CI] 492 GHz integrated intensity ratio varying from 0.2 to 5.3. In addition, we derived the H2-to-[CI] conversion factor, X(CI), by dividing 870 micron-based H2 column densities by the observed [CI] 492 GHz integrated intensities and found that X(CI) ranges from 2.3e20 to 1.3e22 with a median of 1.7e21. In contrast to the strong correlation with 13CO(2-1), [CI] 492 GHz has a scattered relation with the 870 micron-traced molecular gas. Finally, we performed LTE and non-LTE analyses of the [CI] 492 GHz and 809 GHz data for a subset of the Top100 sample and inferred that [CI] emission likely originates from warm (kinetic temperature > 60 K), optically thin (opacity < 0.5), and highly pressurized (thermal pressure ~ e5 to e8 K/cm3) regions., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A

We present the first unbiased survey of neutral hydrogen (HI) absorption in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). The survey utilises pilot HI observations with the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) telescope as part of the Galactic ASKAP HI (GASKAP-HI) project whose dataset has been processed with the GASKAP-HI absorption pipeline, also described here. This dataset provides absorption spectra towards 229 continuum sources, a 275% increase in the number of continuum sources previously published in the SMC region, as well as an improvement in the quality of absorption spectra over previous surveys of the SMC. Our unbiased view, combined with the closely matched beam size between emission and absorption, reveals a lower cold gas faction (11%) than the 2019 ATCA survey of the SMC and is more representative of the SMC as a whole. We also find that the optical depth varies greatly between the SMC's bar and wing regions. In the bar we find that the optical depth is generally low (correction factor to the optically thin column density assumption of $\mathcal{R}_{\rm HI} \sim 1.04$) but increases linearly with column density. Using the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder to measure 21-cm absorption spectra toward continuum background sources, we study the cool phase of the neutral atomic gas in the far outer disk, and in the inner Galaxy near the end of the Galactic bar at longitude 340 degrees. In the inner Galaxy the cool atomic gas has a smaller scale height than in the solar neighborhood, similar to the molecular gas and the superthin stellar population in the bar. In the outer Galaxy the cool atomic gas is mixed with the warm, neutral medium, with the cool fraction staying roughly constant with Galactic radius. The mean spin temperature, i.e. the ratio of the emission brightness temperature to the absorption, is roughly constant for velocities corresponding to Galactic radius greater than about twice the solar circle radius. The ratio has a value of about 300 K, but this does not correspond to a physical temperature in the gas. If the gas causing the absorption has kinetic temperature of about 100 K, as in the solar neighborhood, then the value 300 K indicates that the fraction of the gas mass in this phase is one-third of the total HI mass., Comment: 29 pages, 12 figures, submitted to Astrophysical Journal

GPT-3 shows remarkable in-context learning ability of large-scale language models (LMs) trained on hundreds of billion scale data. Here we address some remaining issues less reported by the GPT-3 paper, such as a non-English LM, the performances of different sized models, and the effect of recently introduced prompt optimization on in-context learning. To achieve this, we introduce HyperCLOVA, a Korean variant of 82B GPT-3 trained on a Korean-centric corpus of 560B tokens. Enhanced by our Korean-specific tokenization, HyperCLOVA with our training configuration shows state-of-the-art in-context zero-shot and few-shot learning performances on various downstream tasks in Korean. Also, we show the performance benefits of prompt-based learning and demonstrate how it can be integrated into the prompt engineering pipeline. Then we discuss the possibility of materializing the No Code AI paradigm by providing AI prototyping capabilities to non-experts of ML by introducing HyperCLOVA studio, an interactive prompt engineering interface. In the framework of a systematic ALMA study of IR-selected main-sequence and starburst galaxies at z~1-1.7 at typical ~1" resolution, we report on the effects of mid-IR- and X-ray-detected active galactic nuclei (AGN) on the reservoirs and excitation of molecular gas in a sample of 55 objects. We find detectable nuclear activity in ~30% of the sample. The presence of dusty tori influences the IR SED of galaxies, as highlighted by the strong correlation among the AGN contribution to the total IR luminosity budget (fAGN = LIR,AGN/LIR), its hard X-ray emission, and the Rayleigh-Jeans to mid-IR (S1.2mm/S24um) observed color, with consequences on the empirical SFR estimates. Nevertheless, we find only marginal effects of AGN on the CO (J=2,4,5,7) or neutral carbon ([CI](1-0), [CI](2-1)) line luminosities and on the derived molecular gas excitation as gauged by line ratios and the full SLEDs. The [CI] and CO emission up to J=5,7 thus primarily traces the properties of the host in typical IR luminous galaxies. However, we highlight the existence of a large variety of line luminosities and ratios despite the homogeneous selection. In particular, we find a sparse group of AGN-dominated sources with the highest LIR,AGN/LIR,SFR ratios, >3, that are more luminous in CO(5-4) than what is predicted by the L'CO(5-4)-LIR,SFR relation, which might be the result of the nuclear activity. For the general population, our findings translate into AGN having minimal effects on quantities such as gas and dust fractions and SFEs. If anything, we find hints of a marginal tendency of AGN hosts to be compact at far-IR wavelengths and to display 1.8x larger dust optical depths. In general, this is consistent with a marginal impact of the nuclear activity on the gas reservoirs and star formation in average star-forming AGN hosts with LIR>5e11 Lsun, typically underrepresented in surveys of quasars and SMGs., Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures + Appendix, accepted in A&A on August 28th, 2021. Located in the Large Magellanic cloud and mostly irradiated by a massive-star cluster R$\,$136, 30 Doradus is an ideal target to test the leading theory of the grain alignment and rotational disruption by RAdiative Torques (RATs). Here, we use publicly available polarized thermal dust emission observations of 30 Doradus at 89, 154, and 214$\,\mu$m using SOFIA/HAWC+. We analyse the variation of the dust polarization degree ($p$) with the total emission intensity ($I$), the dust temperature ($T_{\rm d}$), and the gas column density ($N_{\rm H}$) constructed from ${\it Herschel}$ data. The 30 Doradus complex is divided into two main regions relative to R$\,$136, namely North and South. In the North, we find that the polarization degree first decreases and then increases before decreasing again when the dust temperature increases toward the irradiating cluster R$\,$136. The first depolarization likely arises from the decrease of grain alignment efficiency toward the dense medium due to the attenuation of the interstellar radiation field and the increase of the gas density. The second trend (the increase of $p$ with $T_{\rm d}$) is consistent with the RAT alignment theory. The final trend (the decrease of $p$ with $T_{\rm d}$) is consistent with the RAT alignment theory only when the grain rotational disruption by RATs is taken into account. In the South, we find that the polarization degree is nearly independent of the dust temperature, while the grain alignment efficiency is higher around the peak of the gas column density and decreases toward the radiation source. We present the detection of multiple CO line transitions with ALMA in a few tens of infrared-selected galaxies on and above the main sequence at z=1.1-1.7. We reliably detected the emission of CO(5-4), CO(2-1), and CO(7-6)+[CI](2-1) in 50, 33, and 13 galaxies, respectively, and we complemented this information with available CO(4-3) and [CI](1-0) fluxes for part of the sample, and modeling of the optical-to-mm SEDs. We retrieve a quasi-linear relation between LIR and CO(5-4) or CO(7-6) for main-sequence galaxies and starbursts, corroborating the hypothesis that these transitions can be used as SFR tracers. We find the CO excitation to steadily increase as a function of the star formation efficiency, the mean intensity of the radiation field warming the dust, the surface density of SFR, and, less distinctly, with the distance from the main sequence. This adds to the tentative evidence for higher excitation of the CO+[CI] SLED of starbursts relative to that for main-sequence objects, where the dust opacities play a minor role in shaping the high-J CO transitions in our sample. However, the distinction between the average SLED of upper main-sequence and starburst galaxies is blurred, driven by a wide variety of intrinsic shapes. LVG radiative transfer modeling demonstrates the existence of a highly excited component that elevates the CO SLED of high-redshift main-sequence and starbursting galaxies above the typical values observed in the disk of the Milky Way. This excited component is dense and it encloses ~50% of the total molecular gas mass in main-sequence objects. We interpret the observed trends involving the CO excitation as mainly driven by a combination of large SFRs and compact sizes, naturally connected with enhanced dense molecular gas fractions and higher dust and gas temperatures, due to increasing UV radiation fields, cosmic ray rates, and dust/gas coupling. We present observations of velocity-resolved [CII] 158 $\mu$m emission from both a dense and a more diffuse photodissociation region (PDR) in the Perseus giant molecular cloud (GMC) using the Heterodyne Instrument for the Far-Infrared onboard the Herschel Space Telescope. We detect [CII] emission from 80\% of the total positions, with a 95\% detection rate from the dense boundary region. The integrated intensity of the [CII] emission remains relatively constant across each boundary, despite the observed range in optical extinction between 1 mag and 10 mag. This flat profile indicates a constant heating and cooling rate within both regions observed. The integrated intensity of [CII] emission is reasonably well correlated with the neutral hydrogen (HI) column density, as well as total gas column density. This, in addition to the 80$'$ (7 pc) extent of the [CII] emission from cloud center, suggests that the HI envelope plays a dominant role in explaining the [CII] emission emanating from Perseus. We compare the [CII] and $^{12}$CO integrated intensities with predictions from a 1-D, two-sided slab PDR model and show that a simple core $+$ envelope, equilibrium model without an additional "CO-dark" H$_2$ component can reproduce observations well. Additional observations are needed to disentangle how much of the [CII] emission is associated with the "CO-dark" H$_2$ gas, as well as constrain spatial variations of the dust-to-gas ratio across Perseus.

Determining the efficiency with which gas is converted into stars in galaxies requires an accurate determination of the total reservoir of molecular gas mass. However, despite being the most abundant molecule in the Universe, H$_2$ is challenging to detect through direct observations and indirect methods have to be used to estimate the total molecular gas reservoir. These are often based on scaling relations from tracers such as CO or dust, and are generally calibrated in the Milky Way. Yet, evidence that these scaling relations are environmentally dependent is growing. In particular, the commonly used CO-to-H$_2$ conversion factor (X$_{\rm CO}$) is expected to be higher in metal-poor and/or strongly UV-irradiated environments. We use new SOFIA/FIFI-LS observations of far-infrared fine structure lines from the ionised and neutral gas and the Meudon photodissociation region model to constrain the physical properties and the structure of the gas in the massive star-forming region of 30 Doradus in the Large Magellanic Cloud, and determine the spatially resolved distribution of the total reservoir of molecular gas in the proximity of the young massive cluster R136. We compare this value with the molecular gas mass inferred from ground-based CO observations and dust-based estimates to quantify the impact of this extreme environment on commonly used tracers of the molecular gas. We find that the strong radiation field combined with the half-solar metallicity of the surrounding gas are responsible for a large reservoir of "CO-dark" molecular gas, leaving a large fraction of the total H$_2$ gas (> 75%) undetected when adopting a standard X$_{\rm CO}$ factor in this massive star-forming region., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures. In this paper, we study the characteristics of the member firms on the Korea Exchange. The member firms intermediate between the market participants and the exchange, and all the participants should trade stocks through members. To identify the characteristics of member firms, all member firms are categorized into three groups, such as the domestic members similar to individuals (DIMs), the domestic members similar to institutions (DSMs), and the foreign members (FRMs), in terms of the type of investor. We examine the dynamics of the member firms. The trading characteristics of members are revealed through the directionality and trend. While FRMs tend to trade one-way and move with the price change, DIMs are the opposite. In the market, DIMs and DSMs do herd and the herding moves in the opposite direction of the price change. One the other hand, FRMs do herd in the direction of the price change. The network analysis supports that the members are clustered into three groups similar to DIMs, DSMs, and FRMs. Finally, random matrix theory and a cross-sectional regression show that the inventory variation of members possesses significant information about stock prices and that member herding helps to price the stocks.

We report ALMA observations of the neutral atomic carbon transitions [CI] and multiple CO lines in a sample of $\sim30$ main sequence galaxies at $z\sim1$, including novel information on [CI](2-1) and CO(7-6) for 7 of such normal objects. We complement our observations with a collection of $>200$ galaxies with coverage of similar transitions, spanning the $z=0-4$ redshift interval and a variety of ambient conditions from local to high-redshift starbursts. We find systematic variations in the [CI]/IR and [CI]/high-$J$ ($J=7$) CO luminosity ratios among the various samples. We interpret these differences as increased dense molecular gas fractions and star formation efficiencies in the strongest high-redshift starbursts with respect to normal main sequence galaxies. We further report constant $L'_{\rm [CI]2-1}$/$L'_{\rm [CI]1-0}$ ratios across the galaxy populations and redshifts, suggesting that gas temperatures $T_{\rm exc}$ traced by [CI] do not strongly vary. We find only a mild correlation with $T_{\rm dust}$ and that, generally, $T_{\rm exc} \lesssim T_{\rm dust}$. We fit the line ratios with classical PDR models, retrieving consistently larger densities and intensities of the UV radiation fields in submm galaxies than in main sequence and local objects. However, these simple models fall short in representing the complexity of a multiphase interstellar medium and should be treated with caution. Finally, we compare our observations with the Santa Cruz semi-analytical model of galaxy evolution, recently extended to simulate submm emission. While we confirm the success in reproducing the CO lines, we find systematically larger [CI] luminosities at fixed IR luminosity than predicted theoretically. This highlights the necessity of improving our understanding of the mechanisms regulating the [CI] emission on galactic scales. (abridged) The ambiguous origin of [CII] 158um in the interstellar medium complicates its use for diagnostics concerning the star-formation rate and physical conditions in photodissociation regions (PDRs). We observed the giant HII region N11 in the Large Magellanic Cloud with SOFIA/GREAT in order to investigate the origin of [CII] to obtain the total H2 gas content, the fraction of CO-dark H2 gas, and the influence of environmental effects such as stellar feedback. We present an innovative spectral decomposition method that allows statistical trends to be derived. The [CII] line is resolved in velocity and compared to HI and CO, using a Bayesian approach to decompose the profiles. A simple model accounting for collisions in the neutral atomic and molecular gas was used in order to derive the H2 column density traced by C+. The profile of [CII] most closely resembles that of CO, but the integrated [CII] line width lies between that of CO and that of HI. Using various methods, we find that [CII] mostly originates from the neutral gas. We show that [CII] mostly traces the CO-dark H2 gas but there is evidence of a weak contribution from neutral atomic gas preferentially in the faintest components. Most of the molecular gas is CO-dark. The fraction of CO-dark H2 gas decreases with increasing CO column density, with a slope that seems to depend on the impinging radiation field from nearby massive stars. Finally we extend previous measurements of the photoelectric-effect heating efficiency, which we find is constant across regions probed with Herschel, with [CII] and [OI] being the main coolants in faint and diffuse, and bright and compact regions, respectively, and with PAH emission tracing the CO-dark H2 gas heating where [CII] and [OI] emit. In this paper, we investigate the influence of hyperfine splitting on complex spectral lines, with the aim of evaluating canonical abundances by decomposing their dependence on hyperfine structures. This is achieved from first principles through deconvolution. We present high spectral resolution observations of the rotational ground state transitions of CH near 2 THz seen in absorption toward the strong FIR-continuum sources AGAL010.62$-$00.384, AGAL034.258+00.154, AGAL327.293$-$00.579, AGAL330.954$-$00.182, AGAL332.826$-$00.549, AGAL351.581$-$00.352 and SgrB2(M). These were observed with the GREAT instrument on board SOFIA. The observed line profiles of CH were deconvolved from the imprint left by the lines' hyperfine structures using the Wiener filter deconvolution, an optimised kernel acting on direct deconvolution. The quantitative analysis of the deconvolved spectra first entails the computation of CH column densities. Reliable N(CH) values are of importance owing to the status of CH as a powerful tracer for H$_2$ in the diffuse regions of the interstellar medium. The N(OH)/N(CH) column density ratio is found to vary within an order of magnitude with values ranging from one to 10, for the individual sources that are located outside the Galactic centre. Using CH as a surrogate for H$_2$, we determined the abundance of the OH molecule to be X(OH)=1.09$\times$10$^{-7}$ with respect to H$_2$. The radial distribution of CH column densities along the sightlines probed in this study, excluding SgrB2(M), showcase a dual peaked distribution peaking between 5 and 7 kpc. The similarity between the correspondingly derived column density profile of H$_2$ with that of the CO-dark H$_2$ gas traced by the cold neutral medium component of [CII] 158$~\mu$m emission across the Galactic plane, further emphasises the use of CH as a tracer for H$_2$.
