Abstract

This paper introduces a speech enhancement solution tailored for true wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds on-device usage. The solution was specifically designed to support conversations in noisy environments, with active noise cancellation (ANC) activated. The primary challenges for speech enhancement models in this context arise from computational complexity that limits on-device usage and latency that must be less than 3 ms to preserve a live conversation. To address these issues, we evaluated several crucial design elements, including the network architecture and domain, design of loss functions, pruning method, and hardware-specific optimization. Consequently, we demonstrated substantial improvements in speech enhancement quality compared with that in baseline models, while simultaneously reducing the computational complexity and algorithmic latency., Comment: Accepted by Interspeech 2024

Abstract

BackgroundAdvances in antiretroviral therapies have greatly improved the survival of people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection (PLWH); yet, PLWH have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease than those without HIV. While numerous genetic loci have been linked to cardiometabolic risk in the general population, genetic predictors of the excessive risk in PLWH are largely unknown.MethodsWe screened for common and HIV-specific genetic variants associated with variation in lipid levels in 6284 PLWH (3095 European Americans [EA] and 3189 African Americans [AA]), from the Centers for AIDS Research Network of Integrated Clinical Systems cohort. Genetic hits found exclusively in the PLWH cohort were tested for association with other traits. We then assessed the predictive value of a series of polygenic risk scores (PRS) recapitulating the genetic burden for lipid levels, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and myocardial infarction (MI) in EA and AA PLWH.ResultsWe confirmed the impact of previously reported lipid-related susceptibility loci in PLWH. Furthermore, we identified PLWH-specific variants in genes involved in immune cell regulation and previously linked to HIV control, body composition, smoking, and alcohol consumption. Moreover, PLWH at the top of European-based PRS for T2D distribution demonstrated a > 2-fold increased risk of T2D compared to the remaining 95% in EA PLWH but to a much lesser degree in AA. Importantly, while PRS for MI was not predictive of MI risk in AA PLWH, multiethnic PRS significantly improved risk stratification for T2D and MI.ConclusionsOur findings suggest that genetic loci involved in the regulation of the immune system and predisposition to risky behaviors contribute to dyslipidemia in the presence of HIV infection. Moreover, we demonstrate the utility of the European-based and multiethnic PRS for stratification of PLWH at a high risk of cardiometabolic diseases who may benefit from preventive therapies.

Abstract

Liquid delivery systems have been commercialized to supply precursors to the atomic layer deposition (ALD) reactor at high flow rates. However, the complicated internal structure of the conventional vaporizer causes a problem of slow flow and temperature deviation. In this paper, we propose a cyclone-type vaporizer with a simple structure to supply ALD precursors in large quantities. We investigated the effect of key design parameters on the gas flow and temperature distribution inside the vaporizer by computational fluid dynamics analysis. The design parameters were optimized by considering the flow velocity distribution, residence time at the bottom, and temperature uniformity inside the vaporizer. In the optimized model, a swirling flow was actively formed to reach the bottom of the vaporizer with high flow velocity. The cyclone vaporizer with optimized design parameters was constructed to test its vaporization performance. The cyclone vaporizer vaporized all the injected CpZr(NMe2)3 at a constant feed rate of 4 g/min. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

48. Electrical Control of Broadband Terahertz Wave Transmission with Two-Terminal Graphene Oxide Devices

Abstract

Carbon nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes and graphene have proved to be efficient building blocks for active optoelectronic devices. Especially, the exotic properties of crystalline graphene, such as a linear/gapless energy dispersion, offer a generic route to the development of active photonic modulator at the infrared (IR) and terahertz (THz) regime with large modulation depth. Here, we show that graphene oxide (GO), an oxygenated derivative of graphene with randomly distributed molecular defects (e.g., adsorbed water molecules and punched holes), can provide a different way to effectively control broadband THz transmission amplitude, when incorporated into two-terminal electrode devices. Electrically trapped charge carriers within localized impurity states (LIS) of GO, which originate from fully randomized defective structure of GO, results in a large modulation of transmission amplitude (~30%) for broadband THz waves (0.3 ~ 2.0 THz) even at room temperature. Interesting hysteretic behavior observed in the control of broadband THz transmission further confirms the key role of trapped charge carriers in switching of broadband THz waves. The device architecture constructed by simple solution printing of GO onto the two-terminal electrode enables easy-to-implement active photonic devices.
