There is a demand for soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] cultivars with more functional soybean oil for food and industrial applications. Soybean breeding programs have devoted more efforts to developing high‐yielding soybean cultivars with elevated oil content and improved fatty acid profiles. The University of Missouri – Fisher Delta Research, Extension, and Education Center soybean breeding program has developed and released the high‐oleic soybean cultivar 'S16‐16814R' (Reg. no. CV‐561, PI 704911). It is a maturity group 4‐late (relative maturity 4.9), glyphosate‐tolerant (Roundup Ready 1) soybean cultivar with high oleic (84.0%) acid content and a reduced linolenic (3.5%) acid content. S16‐16814R is resistant to multiple nematode species, including soybean cyst nematode races 2 (HG Type 1.2.5.7), 3 (HG Type 5.7), and 5 (HG Type 2.5.7); southern root‐knot nematode; and reniform nematode. S16‐16814R was evaluated from 2017 to 2020 in 61 environments across eight southern US states. It averaged 92% of the check mean for yield, indicating competitive yield performance across multiple environments. This paper proposes an observer-based proportional Derivative (O-BPD) fuzzy controller for uncertain discrete-time nonlinear descriptor systems (NDSs). Representing NDSs with the Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy model (T-SFM), the proportional derivative (PD) feedback method can be utilized in the fuzzy controller design via the Parallel Distributed Compensation (PDC) concept, such that the noncausal problem and impulse behavior are avoided. A fuzzy observer is proposed to obtain unmeasured states to fulfill the PD fuzzy controller. Moreover, uncertainties and transient response performances are taken into account for the NDSs. Then, a stability analysis process and corresponding stability conditions are derived from the Lyapunov theory with the robust control method and the pole constraint. Different from existing research, the Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) and the projection lemma are utilized to transfer the stability conditions into the Linear Matrix Inequation (LMI) form. Because of this reason, the conservatism of the analysis process can be reduced by eliminating the restriction on the positive definite matrix in the Lyapunov function. By giving the proper center and radius parameters of the pole constraint in the O-BPD fuzzy controller design process, the expected transient responses can be obtained for different designers and different practical applications. Finally, the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed O-BPD fuzzy controller are demonstrated by two examples of the simulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) is a rare tumor with extraordinarily different features between Eastern and Western countries. Vascular endothelial growth factor‐A (VEGFA) was originally identified as a secreted signaling protein and regulator of vascular development and cancer progression. In this study, we aimed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of VEGFA by microRNA in UTUC. Methods: VEGFA expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry in 140 human UTUC tissue samples. Next, we assessed the regulatory relationship between VEGFA and miR‐299‐3p by real‐time PCR, western blotting, ELISA and dual‐luciferase reporter assays using two UTUC cell lines. The role of miR‐299‐3p/VEGFA in cell proliferation, motility, invasion, and tube formation was analyzed in vitro. Results: High VEGFA expression was significantly associated with tumor stage, grade, distant metastasis and cancer‐related death and correlated with poor progression‐free and cancer‐specific survival. VEGFA knockdown repressed proliferation, migration, invasion and angiogenesis in UTUC cell lines. miR‐299‐3p significantly reduced VEGFA protein expression and miR‐299‐3p overexpression inhibited VEGFA mRNA and protein expression by directly targeting its 3′‐UTR. Functional studies indicated that VEGFA overexpression reversed the miR‐299‐3p‐mediated suppression of tumor cell proliferation, migration, invasion and angiogenesis. In addition, miR‐299‐3p/VEGFA suppressed cellular functions in UTUC by modulating the expression of P18 and cyclin E2. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that miR‐299‐3p possibly suppresses UTUC cell proliferation, motility, invasion and angiogenesis via VEGFA. VEGFA may act as a prognostic predictor, and both VEGFA and miR‐299‐3p could be potential therapeutic targets for UTUC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: Although Listeria monocytogenes had poor pressure resistance, its characteristic as a low-temperature tolerant bacteria allowed residual or injured bacteria by HPP to self-repair and grow during low-temperature storage. Therefore, once HPP-treated carrot juice was contaminated by L. monocytogenes, foodborne illness risk persisted despite refrigeration of the juice. In this study, Salmonella Typhimurium, Escherichia coli, and Listeria monocytogenes were separately inoculated in sterilized carrot juice and subjected to various types of high-pressure processing (HPP) at 200–600 MPa for 0.1–15 min to observe the effects of HPP on the inactivation kinetics of foodborne pathogens in carrot juice. The first-order model fits the destruction kinetics of high pressure on foodborne pathogens during the pressure hold period. An increase in pressure from 200 to 600 MPa decreased the decimal reduction time (D values) of S. Typhimurium, E. coli, and L. monocytogenes. Under pressure ≥ 400 MPa, the D values of E. coli were significantly higher than those of S. Typhimurium and L. monocytogenes, indicating that E. coli had greater resistance to high pressures than the others. The Zp values (the pressure range that causes the D values to change by 90%) of E. coli, S. Typhimurium, and L. monocytogenes were 195, 175, and 170 MPa, respectively. These results indicated that L. monocytogenes and E. coli were the most and least sensitive, respectively, to pressure changes. Additionally, the three bacteria were separately inoculated into thermal-sterilized carrot juice and subjected to 200–600 MPa HPP for 3 min. The treated carrot juices were stored at 4 °C for 27 d. Following S. Typhimurium and E. coli inoculation, the bacterial counts of the control and 200 MPa treatments remained the same during the storage duration. However, they decreased for the 300 and 400 MPa treatment groups with increasing storage duration. During the storage period, no bacterial growth was observed in the 500 and 600 MPa treatments. However, the bacterial number for the control and pressure treatment groups increased with prolonged storage duration following inoculation with L. monocytogenes. Therefore, following HPP, residual L. monocytogenes continued growing stably at low temperatures. Overall, HPP could inhibit and delay the growth of S. Typhimurium and E. coli in carrot juice during cold storage, but it was ineffective at inhibiting the growth of L. monocytogenes. There was a risk of foodborne illness despite the low-temperature storage of juice. The innovation of this preliminary study is to find the impact of high pressure on the inactivate kinetics of three food pathogens in carrot juice and its practical application in simulated contaminated juice.
