We develop the viscosity method for the homogenization of an obstacle problem with highly oscillating obstacles. The associated operator, in non-divergence form, is linear and elliptic with variable coefficients. We first construct a highly oscillating corrector, which captures the singular behavior of solutions near periodically distributed holes of critical size. Beam shaping in nanophotonic systems remains a challenge due to the reliance on complex heuristic optimization procedures. In this work, we experimentally demonstrate a novel approach to topological beam shaping using Jackiw-Rebbi states in metasurfaces. By fabricating thin-film dielectric structures with engineered Dirac-mass distributions, we create domain walls that allow precise control over beam profiles. We observe the emergence of Jackiw-Rebbi states and confirm their localized characteristics. Notably, we achieve a flat-top beam profile by carefully tailoring the Dirac mass distribution, highlighting the potential of this method for customized beam shaping. This experimental realization establishes our approach as a new mechanism for beam control, rooted in topological physics, and offers an efficient strategy for nanophotonic design.

We explore the consequence of generalized symmetries in four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal field theories. First, we classify all possible supersymmetric gauge theories with a simple gauge group that have a nontrivial one-form symmetry and flows to a superconformal field theory. Upon identifying unbroken discrete zero-form symmetries from the ABJ anomaly, we find that many of these theories have mixed zero-form/one-form 't Hooft anomalies. Then we classify the relevant deformations of these SCFTs that preserve the anomaly. From this mixed anomaly together with the anomalies of the discrete zero-form symmetries, we find obstructions for the relevant deformations of these SCFTs to flow to a trivially gapped phase. We also study non-Lagrangian SCFTs formed by gauging copies of Argyres-Douglas theories and constrain their deformations. In particular, we explore a new duality between the diagonal gauging of two $\mathcal{D}_3(SU(N))$ theories and $SU(N)$ gauge theory with two adjoints. We also repeat our analysis for a host of non-supersymmetric gauge theories having nontrivial one-form symmetry including examples that appear to flow to Bank-Zaks type CFTs., Comment: 78 pages + references

We consider the problem of planning collision-free trajectories on distance fields. Our key observation is that querying a distance field at one configuration reveals a region of safe space whose radius is given by the distance value, obviating the need for additional collision checking within the safe region. We refer to such regions as safe bubbles, and show that safe bubbles can be obtained from any Lipschitz-continuous safety constraint. Inspired by sampling-based planning algorithms, we present three algorithms for constructing a safe bubble cover of free space, named bubble roadmap (BRM), rapidly exploring bubble graph (RBG), and expansive bubble graph (EBG). The bubble sampling algorithms are combined with a hierarchical planning method that first computes a discrete path of bubbles, followed by a continuous path within the bubbles computed via convex optimization. Experimental results show that the bubble-based methods yield up to 5- 10 times cost reduction relative to conventional baselines while simultaneously reducing computational efforts by orders of magnitude., Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures. We report an extensive high-sensitivity search for axion dark matter above 1\,GHz at the Center for Axion and Precision Physics Research (CAPP). The cavity resonant search, exploiting the coupling between axions and photons, explored the frequency (mass) range of 1.025\,GHz (4.24\,$\mu$eV) to 1.185\,GHz (4.91\,$\mu$eV). We have introduced a number of innovations in this field, demonstrating the practical approach of optimizing all the relevant parameters of axion haloscopes, extending presently available technology. The CAPP 12\,T magnet with an aperture of 320\,mm made of Nb$_3$Sn and NbTi superconductors surrounding a 37-liter ultralight-weight copper cavity is expected to convert DFSZ axions into approximately $10^2$ microwave photons per second. A powerful dilution refrigerator, capable of keeping the core system below 40\,mK, combined with quantum-noise limited readout electronics, achieved a total system noise of about 200\,mK or below, which corresponds to a background of roughly $4\times 10^3$ photons per second within the axion bandwidth. The combination of all those improvements provides unprecedented search performance, imposing the most stringent exclusion limits on axion--photon coupling in this frequency range to date. Efficient transmissive pure-phase resonances are highly desirable for optical modulation and wavefront engineering. Here, we propose a novel principle to realize a pure-phase resonance in an extremely broad transmission band, as opposed to previous approaches restricted to operating in reflection mode or over a narrow spectral band. We show that a glide-symmetric bilayer metasurface mathematically mimicking a two-dimensional Dirac semimetal induces unidirectional guided-mode excitation and perfect leakage-radiation blazing at the transmission channel. These effects create a peculiar resonant-scattering configuration, similar to the classical reflective Gires-Tournois etalon, but in transmission, providing full 2pi phase modulation with constant transmittance near 100%. Most importantly, this effect persists over an extremely wide band, associated with topological effects. Hence, our proposed approach produces a spectrally and parametrically robust pure-phase resonance effect in transmission, which is highly beneficial for practical applications., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures

The Weak Gravity Conjecture (WGC) in anti-de Sitter spacetime (AdS) asserts the existence of an operator in the boundary conformal field theory (CFT) whose scaling dimension-to-charge ratio satisfies a certain upper bound. This bound is specified by the ratio of the conformal central charge $c$ and the flavor central charge $k_F$. We propose a modified bound in AdS5/CFT4, determined by a combination of two central charges $3c-2a$ instead of $c$. This combination arises in the Cardy-like limit of the 4d superconformal index, which captures the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of large BPS black holes in AdS5. Using the new bound, we find that certain superconformal field theories (SCFTs) that are previously thought to violate the AdS WGC, including SQCDs in the conformal window, do satisfy the WGC. We check this version of the WGC against all possible superconformal gauge theories with SU(N) gauge group admitting a large N limit when the superpotential is absent. We conjecture the modified version of the WGC is a generic property of any 4d SCFT, regardless of the existence of a weakly coupled gravity dual or a large N limit., Comment: 25 pages, 6 figures

In this paper, we investigate energy-minimizing curves with fixed endpoints $p$ and $q$ in a constrained space. We prove that when one of the endpoints, say $p$, is fixed, the set of points $q$ for which the energy-minimizing curve is not unique has no interior points.

The dynamic behaviors of magnetic domain walls have significant implications for developing advanced spintronic devices. In this study, we investigate the intriguing resonance phenomenon within the magnetic domain wall structure and its profound influence on dynamic motion, focusing on the dissipation mechanism. By applying a static external magnetic field, we observe a remarkable amplification of domain wall velocity, surpassing the limitations of the conventional one-dimensional model. To quantify this enhancement, we introduce a novel parameter, the distortion variation rate, which captures the rapid and pronounced changes occurring within the domain wall structure. Through comprehensive micromagnetic simulations, we establish a robust relationship between speed and distortion variation rate, thereby validating our theoretical framework. Our findings provide crucial insights into the underlying mechanisms governing domain wall dynamics while paving the way for developing and optimizing next-generation spintronic devices boasting unparalleled speed and efficiency., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

In this paper, we establish the boundary regularity results for viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear degenerate/singular parabolic equations of the form $$u_t - x_n^{\gamma} F(D^2 u,x,t) = f,$$ where $\gamma<1$. These equations are motivated by the porous media type equations. We show the boundary $C^{1,\alpha}$-regularity of functions in their solutions class and the boundary $C^{2,\alpha}$-regularity of solutions. We consider the coordinated escort problem, where a decentralised team of supporting robots implicitly assist the mission of higher-value principal robots. The defining challenge is how to evaluate the effect of supporting robots' actions on the principal robots' mission. To capture this effect, we define two novel auxiliary reward functions for supporting robots called satisfaction improvement and satisfaction entropy, which computes the improvement in probability of mission success, or the uncertainty thereof. Given these reward functions, we coordinate the entire team of principal and supporting robots using decentralised cross entropy method (Dec-CEM), a new extension of CEM to multi-agent systems based on the product distribution approximation. In a simulated object avoidance scenario, our planning framework demonstrates up to two-fold improvement in task satisfaction against conventional decoupled information gathering.The significance of our results is to introduce a new family of algorithmic problems that will enable important new practical applications of heterogeneous multi-robot systems., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures
